Inside the Park, Isla Nublar, 8/13/1993, 14:28

The gate slammed shut behind them as the car crept along the road, idly Harry noticed eight-foot high wire fencing lining the right side of the road, the lush vegetation growing right up to the fence line.

The car passed a grey stone marker that kind of resembled a headstone, it had a painted picture of a reptilian skull over a circular yellow background set over the red outline of a reverse teardrop-shaped island, underneath this were the words 'Dilophosaurus' painted in large yellow letters.

The car came to a gentle stop and the charismatic male voice started describing a dinosaur known as the dilophosaurus, a therapod that spits its venom at its prey like a cobra. From the description, the dinosaur at the park was an adolescent but the species was thought to grow up to twenty-five feet in length and stand about ten feet in height.

This raised more questions for Harry, he still was not quite sure he believed there were real dinosaurs in this park. So was this some type of gimmick? Would visitors come one year and see a robot the size of a small dinosaur and then come back a year or so later to see a bigger version of the same robot? That didn't sound feasible as that would cost the theme park millions to constantly commission new animatronics.

"Where is it?" Lex asked leaning over Harry to press her face to the window accidentally pressing her palm to the power window button, causing the window to roll halfway down.

"I don't see anything," Harry muttered acutely aware of her shoulder pressing against his as they both looked out into the thick jungle on the other side of the fence.

"Do you hear that?" Lex whispered as she looked out through the palm fronds.

Harry listened closely and thought he could hear a hooting sound not unlike that of an owl just at a slightly higher pitch.

"Sounds like a bunch of birds," Harry said softly as the car jerked into motion and Lex quickly moved back into her seat.

Harry was looking down at his door to find the button to roll up his window when something hit his window with a wet 'SPLAT.'

The partially rolled-down window caught the majority of it but some of the sticky substance landed on his forehead.

Harry jumped when he saw the black goop stuck to his window and stared at it in confusion as he held the button and rolled up the window. He could feel a strange tingling sensation around his curse scar but pushed it to the back of his mind as the car moved along towards a long tunnel.

Little did Harry know a very strange alchemical reaction was taking place just underneath the skin of his forehead.

Two months ago young Mr Potter had an encounter with an ancient serpent called a basilisk. During the confrontation with this colossal snake, he was envenomated with poison more potent than any creature on the planet. Within a minute of being bitten an antidote of sorts was administered via a phoenix shedding three tears into the wound.

The tears arrested the effects of the poison but were not strong enough to destroy the venom completely, it simply rendered it into an inert state until the body naturally consumed it over time.

This process would take years given the amount of venom injected by the snake when the sword of Gryffindor passed through the muscle group responsible for contracting the serpent's venom glands.

These muscles had seized up and squeezed the snake's left venom gland much harder than usual giving Harry a blast of venom strong enough to kill a Hungarian horntail.

The fact that three drops of phoenix tears could render over a pint of basilisk venom inert is a testament to the power of the ancient bird.

However, something very strange happened when the venom from a creature that had roamed the earth two hundred million years ago seeped into the pores of Harry Potter's forehead.

The dilophosaurus venom mixed with the innate venom already flowing through Harry's veins. This dilophosaurus venom reactivated the basilisk venom under the area where the sticky venom came in contact with his skin.

Over the past few months, Harry's body had developed an immunity to the poison flowing through his veins but the fraction of soul embedded in Harry's scar had no such immunity.

As Harry's scar started to absorb the dilophosaurus venom and it mixed with the inert basilisk venom in his blood, Harry began to feel a slight tingle as the venom literally consumed the fragment of Tom Riddle's soul without Harry being any the wiser.

The black ooze that leaked out of his scar blended perfectly with the stick black venom of the dilophosaurus poison and purged the parasite from the poor boy's body.

"You got something on your head," Lex said when the car cleared the other side of the tunnel.

"Yeah, I don't know what it is," Harry mumbled as the tingling got more intense reminding him of the feeling he got when his foot fell asleep.

"Here," Lex said offering him a box of Kleenexes from the centre console.

"Thanks," Harry said as he took the box and began wiping the glutinous substance from his forehead noticing the Kleenex turning a deep jet black.

It took five Kleenexes before the dilophosaurus and horcrux goop was removed from his forehead, since he wasn't using a mirror he could not see that his trademark scar was rapidly changing in colour from a pinkish-red to a pale white as it began shrinking in size.

Wadding the used Kleenex in his hand, Harry placed it into a plastic bag hanging on the back of the seat in front of him.

Harry looked out the window noticing the fencing on the left side of the road was now almost thirty feet high sitting on top of concrete ledges three feet tall, there were tin signs hung on the fence between every other vertical support.

Danger

10,000 Volts

There was a red drawing of a hand with a lightning bolt and a red circle with a diagonal line bisecting it, the message was pretty clear, 'do not touch!'

Harry looked out over Lex's shoulder as the car came to a complete stop.

Harry was even more confused now, there was no nonmagical creature that he knew of that would require a fence this big.

Harry suddenly jerked his head when the voice issued out of the console, he only heard two words before his brain short-circuited.

"Tyrannosaurus Rex...

The tyrannosaurus rex was his favourite dinosaur, they were such amazing animals their sheer size was awe-inspiring, and to think that these creatures rules the planet millions of years ago always stirred something in his imagination.

Harry used to imagine what it must have been like to be in the presence of such a creature. Granted it would probably be the most terrifying experience of his life if he even survived the encounter. Of course, this was before he had learned about magic and discovered dragons really existed.

Hary slid beside Lex on her side of the car and peered out her window hoping to catch a glimpse of the creature or more likely, an animatronic.

'Come to think about it, the electric fences could be a creative way to get large amounts of power to operate the robots while maintaining the ruse that the dinos are real,' Harry thought to himself as he tried to look through the thick jungle on the other side of the fence seeing a large mountain as a backdrop to the rex paddock.

" Where is it?" Timmy practically whined.

"It could be nocturnal," Lex pointed out distractedly as she scanned the large paddock hoping to see something.

Before Timmy could say anything a set of metal bars seemed to rise up from the ground inside the paddock. A few seconds later a white goat was lifted up inside those bars and the bars sank back into the ground revealing the goat was tied to a stake.

The goat was about twenty feet away from the electric fence and looked into the jungle nervously before bleating quite loudly.

"That's not cool," Harry muttered as he realized what the goat was there for.

"What's not cool?" Lex said as she looked over her shoulder blushing slightly when she realized their noses were inches apart.

"The goat is bait for the rex," Harry explained as the goat went down on its knees still bleating loudly.

"Awesome, maybe it will show up now!" Timmy exclaimed in excitement his eyes alight at the possibility of seeing the rex eat the goat.

"I'm pretty sure the goat would feel a bit differently," Harry muttered feeling a touch of sympathy for the goat.

"Which is why I'm a vegetarian," Lex agreed shooting Harry a warm smile.

"I don't think I could do that, I couldn't live without bacon in the morning," Harry chuckled as the car jerked into motion.

"Same here, kid," Gennaro muttered seeming to be as put out as Timmy was that the rex hadn't shown up.

"I hate the smell of bacon," Lex huffed as the car travelled down the road.

"I would too if I couldn't eat it," Harry agreed, getting an annoyed look from the girl and a laugh from her brother.

"Boys," Lex muttered and went back to looking out the window.

Harry watched through his own window as they crossed a concrete bridge that spanned over a small inlet, where he could see the ocean in the distance,l. On the other side of the inlet, the terrain opened up into large open grasslands though the vegetation was still grown up on either side of the road, looking closely at the vegetation he could see a five-foot high fence though it didn't appear to be electrified like the ones around the other two paddocks they had seen.

"We are now going to see one of the great herbivores of the Cretaceous period, the triceratops. These mighty animals fed on cycads, ferns, and certain fruits...

Harry tuned out the commentary coming from the console as he saw something off in the distance through the vegetation. There was a silver and red Jeep parked out in a large expanse of grassland, he could make out Dr Harding inspecting a large brown and grey mound. Before he could figure out what it was, Timmy jumped out of the car and the car slammed to a stop.

"Timmy, where are you going?!" Lex demanded angrily as she opened her door and hurried after her brother.

"What the hell was that about?" Harry muttered as he turned in his seat to seat the adults in the car behind them heading down a trail leading to the grassland.

"Oh no, if anyone gets hurt we're screwed," Gennaro exclaimed before he got out of the car and dashed after the group.

Sighing Harry got out noticing Dr Malcom trailing the others, Harry quickly caught him up as he followed the trail down a steep hill.

"You wouldn't happen to know what has them so excited?" Malcolm asked Harry as they made it down the incline.

"There is something out there, I could see Dr Harding working on something, it looked like an elephant but way bigger," Harry admitted as they forced their way through chest-high grass.

"Oh I bet it was bigger than an elephant," Dr Malcolm sniggered.

Harry followed the group across the plain watching Timmy pester Alan Grant about some book he was holding, once again reminding Harry of Colin Creevey.

Harry was surprised when the group in front of him came to a stop before Dr Grant went on ahead, ten seconds later Timmy hurried to catch up with him.

"Kid doesn't know how to listen," Dr Malcom muttered though he sounded amused.

Harry nodded his agreement before hurrying after the others, stepping out into an area where all grass had been trampled down. Dr Grant and Timmy were staring at the brownish-grey mound Harry had seen from the car while the others looked on from a distance.

Harry stared in amazement as he instantly recognized the animal, it was a triceratops. The dinosaur was laying on its side, its tongue flopping out of its beaklike mouth and its eyes were barely opened it seemed to be sleeping or nearly asleep The triceratops was taking deep rumbling breaths, its sides rising a foot in the air every time it inhaled.

"That looks so real," Harry muttered as he stared at the dinosaur in amazement.

"It is real," Dr Malcolm said from behind him making him jump in surprise.

"That's not possible," Harry exclaimed and he couldn't hide the disbelief in his voice.

"It is, that's why we're all here," Dr Malcolm elaborated as Dr Sattler and Dr Harding started talking about lilac berries.

"But dinosaurs are extinct, they've been extinct for like sixty-million years or something," Harry argued weakly.

"What, you've never heard of cloning?" Ian asked seeming to enjoy Harry's reaction.

"Yeah, I've heard of cloning vegetables but a bloody dinosaur?" Harry asked incredulously.

"I guess you missed that part of the tour," Dr Malcolm nodded.

"They explained how they made dinosaurs on the tour?" Harry asked in surprise, he assumed it would be a trade secret.

"They gave us an overview, I'm sure they left out the important parts," Dr Malcolm said as they say Dr Harding pass Dr Sattler a pair of long rubber gloves.

"So... how do they do it?" Harry asked.

"What we were told in Hammond's little video was that they extracted blood from mosquitos fossilized in tree sap or amber," Dr Malcolm began.

"Amber?" Harry repeated.

"Yeah like the orange stone on Hammonds's cane, that's amber," Malcolm answered.

"Oh," Harry nodded.

"Anyway, they extracted the DNA from the blood preserved in mosquitoes. From there they extracted dinosaur DNA," Malcolm lectured.

"How would blood survive millions of years, wouldn't the mosquito have digested the blood?" Harry interrupted seeing a problem with the explanation.

"It did, there were holes in the gene sequence so they couldn't use the DNA without first filling in the holes," Malcolm nodded looking impressed by his question.

"Right so how did they patch the holes?" Harry asked feeling more lost the longer Dr Malcolm spoke.

"They used whole segments of frog DNA to finish the gene sequences so they could begin the process of creating dinosaur embryos. Then they transferred the embryos into unfertilized ostrich or emu eggs," Malcolm explained as he noticed Dr Sattler sticking her arms in a pile of manure.

"So all of the dinosaurs on the tour are real?" Harry said more to himself than Dr Malcom.

"More or less," Dr Malcolm said as thunder crashed in the distance.

"Oh crap, we have to get you all back to the visitors centre," Dr Harding said as he heard an announcement come over the CB in his Jeep.

"Wh-whats the matter?" Mr Gennaro asked worriedly.

"There is a tropical storm heading this way, the boat for the mainland is leaving out in ten minutes," Harding explained.

"I would like to stay for a bit longer, I know she's suffering from lilac berries I just need to find the source," Dr Sattler muttered.

"I can give you a few more minutes if you want to ride with me back to the garage," Dr Harding offered.

"That would be great," Ellie said looking at Alan

"I'll catch you in a bit," Alan nodded.

"Alright, back to the cars," Gennaro said before shuffling back towards the road.

"Can you believe that was real?" Lex asked as she came up beside Harry while Timmy continued to ask Dr Grant questions.

"No, until I saw that I thought they were going to be robots or something," Harry admitted.

"You mean like at Disneyland?" Lex asked.

"I guess," Harry said having never been to a theme park much less an American one.

"I didn't think they would be real either," Lex admitted as they made it back to the car.

Harry sat there pondering what he had seen, he thought after the discovery that magic was real that he couldn't be surprised by anything. It absolutely blew his mind that muggles had figured out a way to bring animals that were extinct millions of years ago back to life.

Harry didn't think he was that out of touch with the muggle world but he had never heard anything to suggest that what they were doing on this island was even possible. The fact that they had succeeded to the point where they could clone enough dinosaurs to build a theme park was unbelievable.

Harry was pulled from his thoughts as raindrops started hitting the glass sunroof of the Ford Explorer.

"Here it comes," Gennaro muttered as the car began moving forward, driving past the triceratops paddock.

They followed the road for a few minutes before the track on the roadway split in two directions. One section of the track veered to the left and was split into two separate tracks for about twenty feet before they merged together. This section of 'Y' shaped track met the main track, joining at two separate points about twenty feet apart and forming a curved triangular shape.

Both cars followed the left section of the track, the car making a sharp left turn before straightening out until the cars came to a stop when the track ended. Both cars reversed down the track to the main road though this time the cars turned right so that they were facing the direction they had just come from.

"I was wondering how they turned these things around," Genarro said sounding impressed.

Harry stayed silent as the rain started falling in sheets, large drops of water hammering the glass roof as the cars started the trip back to the visitor centre.

"That was awful, we only saw one dinosaur and it was sleeping," Timmy whined from the driver's seat.

"We can go back out tomorrow, I'm sure we'll something," Lex pointed out as Gennaro turned on the air conditioner.

"I just wish we could have seen the T-rex," Harry sighed as they started to cross the bridge.

"We might can see it when we drive past," Timmy said excitedly.

"It's almost dark and the rain is getting really heavy," Lex pointed out.

That was an understatement, the rain was coming down hard and the wind had picked up blowing hard enough to rock the car around.

Up ahead Harry could a flashing orange light on the electric fence thirty feet in the air.

It was now almost completely dark and the light from the car's headlights reflected off of the water on the road. A flash of lightning illuminated the area in blue light for a split second, Harry caught a glimpse of the goat still tied to a stake

"Well the rex hasn't eaten the goat yet," Harry said as the headlights passed over the soaking wet as the car made the turn coming up alongside the rex paddock.

"Maybe the T-rex really is nocturnal," Timmy muttered as the car came to a jarring stop.

"I just hope we don't find out first-hand," Harry groaned as the flashing light on the fence went out.

"Why do you say that?" Gennaro asked.

"Because it looks like the electric fence just shut off, when we stopped " Harry replied quietly, getting a familiar feeling in the pit of his stomach.

"How do you know that?" Lex asked looking at him in terror.

"The warning light went out," Harry said pointing at the place he had seen it flashing a moment ago.

"Oh this is bad," Gennaro mumbled sounding panicked.

"Nothing we can do but wait," Harry shrugged as he palmed his wand, hoping his unfortunate luck wasn't about to rear its ugly head.

AN: You have no idea how much work went into explaining how electric cars bound to a fixed track turned around. I knew how they would do it in my head but trying to describe it was a pain in the rumpus.
