Context: First, I must apologize if any of the characters are OOC (out of character, in case you didn't know what it meant). I am trying to go based off of what I know on how characters act. To my understanding, Ritsuka is respectful and mindful of others, and Gabrielle is more socially laid back and outgoing (one tries to respect personal boundaries while the other is overly friendly and somewhat innocent, I guess). Arturia and other servants will be from the Fate route, and you'll notice if you've seen this video: /PXvMvWqkN6Y . The story is basically a bunch of servants and the two masters watching EMIYA's backstory, plus a few surprises which will be seen early on. I've wanted to see someone write a react fic (I've been getting into these because of Re:Zero) about EMIYA, but no one has, so this is basically "fine, I'll do it myself". The people I plan on having actively comment are Cú Chulainn, Mash, Gudao (Ritsuka), Gudako (Gabrielle) and Arturia, with occasional comments thrown by Medusa (Rider), Chiron, Achilles, Mordred, Gawain, Bedivere, and maybe a few others if I see an opportunity. There are no Alter's, Lily's, or different classes of the same person for the sake of simplicity (for example, only Lancer Cú and Saber Arturia, no LArtoria, Caster Cú, SAlter, JAlter, etc…). This is my first fic. I'm confident in my grammar, but if there are any mistakes, then let me know and I'll try to figure out how to fix it. I, again, apologize for OOC moments and if my interpretation of EMIYA's backstory is off (his backstory doesn't seem to be set in stone, save for some key events, so I'll take some creative liberty here; mainly ideas I've seen in other fics about EMIYA's backstory). Additionally, the backstories are based on anime only. Italics represent thoughts or narration from the subconscious, bold represents what is said or happening on the screen, strike through is for actions occurring on the screen. Hope you enjoy.
Where is everyone?, thought the red-clad archer as he walked into the cafeteria. Surely if he were to find at least one servant, it'd be in the cafeteria. Much to his surprise, however, the room was deserted, or as he would say at the moment, desserted. Yes, he was bored enough to make puns since he hadn't seen anyone all day. At this point, he was beginning to be concerned. It was unlike Saber- Arturia, he reminded himself. There were several Sabers now, after all- to not be seen gorging down some food while proclaiming that hunger was the enemy. Well, he supposed that he would always be destined to search for her, and she would wait for him, whether she knew it or not. Finally, after walking out of the cafeteria and turning down a hall, he managed to pick up multiple servant signatures. They all seemed to be collected in a room. Maybe his masters forgot to mention that Archaman wanted to host a meeting for the servants. To be fair though, considering that he wasn't displaying much trust in the people around him, maybe everyone decided to not bother telling him. Nameless Archer, as everyone came to call him, refused to reveal his True Name to anyone. He was concerned about how Saber- Arturia- would react upon learning his True Name and history. The man loved her dearly, so much that he once made his life-long dream of being a Hero of Justice be secondary when compared to finding Avalon. He just didn't know if he could handle confirming that Saber- Arturia, again. Old habits die hard I guess- wasn't from that particular timeline. Finally, he reached the door and it slid open. Inside he found nearly every servant in Chaldea present, including his masters. The room was what appeared to be a theater. However, no one paid any attention to him entering, everyone quiet, all eyes fixated on the screen. There, he saw something that shocked him. On the screen, Sabe- Arturia. At least I'm catching the slip-up earlier than before- was laying down against the trunk of a tree. She seemed wounded, on the verge of death. The former master began intently watching the screen.
The battle has ended
"A dream… is that something you can see even after waking up?", spoke Arturia.
"If you close your eyes, the same thing will reappear", answered the knight
Ah, Bedivere. This was Arturia's death.
"Yes… if you will it hard enough, you can see the same dream. I have experienced this", lied the knight. Bedivere just wanted to bring comforting words to his King. Give her some hope in her passing moments.
"I see… you are well-informed… Bedivere, take my holy sword…"
And thus, a curtain fell on the story of King Arthur.
"So that's what your dream was, Milord", Bedivere whispered to himself.
The curtain rises. Arturia is seen raising a curtain on a stage
(The scene changes to Arturia standing at the bridge where she and Shirou argued. She's looking at the horizon.)
Nothing, even if I don't return there…
That day, the view of the landscape was so beautiful. After we argued, Shirou went home by himself… and I… had nowhere to go…
Wasn't, I… waiting for Shirou at that time too?
(The screen begins to show a sequence of flashbacks: When she was summoned; Shirou taking Berserker's attack for her; her holding his bloodied body)
Shirou. I swore to be his sword. He never cared for himself. He rejected the Holy Grail. My sheathe, my…. I want to see Shirou
"That's difficult to do. Your times are horribly misaligned, after all", said a sage-like voice.
Of course, all members in the room were able to tell that this was Merlin, the Wizard of Flowers. Those that knew the half-succubus, knew that he was speaking in a serious tone that was reserved for important moments.
"Also, you shouldn't wish for such a thing. After all, it's just a dream, isn't it?", inquired the mage
"Even so, I can't give up this hope. It's enough for me", answered Arturia
"I see, in that case, you'll continue to wait for him forever", said Merlin. As if on cue, petals began to engulf the scene, only parting to reveal an Arturia who would be asleep for what may be forever.
And at this, the projector turned off and the lights came back on.
"That was so moving!", Gabby sniffed. The master was overwhelmed by emotion at the touching scene that she had just watched.
"Wait, does that mean we summoned you away from Avalon?", asked the other master, Gudao.
"You have indeed, but worry not, Master. I am not upset by the fact that my reunion with Shirou has been somewhat delayed.", responded Sab- Arturia… wait. From what they've just said, this is the Arturia I once met in Avalon. That's a relief. However, how will I explain to her that I am Shirou Emiya. That she is mine and I am hers, even if that wasn't meant to have happened. Ugh, that'd be a nightmare to explain. I doubt Sa- Arturia is one for being dense, but I still worry that my explanation will not be thorough enough for her to understand, EMIYA thought. He then realized that Gabby, one of his masters, was staring at him.
"Is something wrong, Master?", he asked
"So you're telling me we've seen six- weird", she mumbled that last part, "-different perspectives of the same Holy Grail War, and we still have no idea who he is?!" Chimed in Mordred, somehow pissed at how the Nameless Archer did a better job at hiding his True Name than her Secret Pedigree skill. She continued, "Not once in any of the history that the Grail has given me has a dual wielding archer ever emerged! Especially one that would have a Reality Marble full of swords in a desolate wasteland!". Mordred knew what she was doing. She wanted to draw her masters' attention to him so that they could see what his true identity was. She may be reckless, but she too could be manipulative when she wanted.
"Yeah, that's true. I've fought the man and still have no idea who the hell he is. Might be Irish. I saw him bring out something eerily similar to Caladbolg in his fight against Heracles. But there's no way he was shooting swords the whole time… right?", wondered Cú. The hound was still as confused as ever as to who the hell this Nameless Archer was. Maybe he was just that, nameless.
And just like Mordred and Cú had planned, one of the masters took the bait.
"Actually, how about you show us your history, Archer?", asked Gabby. It appeared as though she would finally get an answer with so many expectant servants looking at him. Maybe she was also planning something like the other two? Who knows.
EMIYA began to shift on his feet, trying to find some way to avoid this topic. "Master, my identity isn't important. I'm no big hero who would be recorded in history. Thus I cannot see why you would be so concerned with my name.", he was trying to find anything that may disinterest his masters. Rank E Luck had other ideas.
"But it would help when forming strategies with you, would it not? Oh, and it'd be nice to call you by something other than Archer or Nameless", said Mash.
Damnit, Mash, was all the servant could think.
"I am rather curious as well. Though your servant class is that of an archer, it is very strange to see you perform so skillfully with a blade. Not to mention how odd it is that you were firing swords from your bow instead of arrows", Arturia followed up, intrigued by the true identity of this man. She had to personally thank him for saving her and Shirou, after all.
"Besides, we've already seen all the other servants. You were part of that 5th Grail War, so I'd be able to get another look at what my new step-mother would look like", said Mordred. EMIYA could clearly see how Arturia began to redden by Mordred's comment. He was currently trying to resist the urge to tease her while simultaneously fighting against his urge to smile and slightly blush himself.
"Well, like I've said, my story isn't interesting and I don't feel like talking about myself. I'll begin making dinner, in case anyone is interested", and before Arturia could raise her hand to make her order for dinner, Gabby interrupted his quick getaway plan.
"Why don't you use the machine real quick? Da Vinci made it. She says it's an invention that she's trying to implement throughout the facility. It should be able to teleport people around, you know", said the orange-haired master
"Gabby, that's not nice. You shouldn't try to trick him just because you're curious. Archer, this is a device that Da Vinci made. It uses a noble phantasm as a way to replay a servants memories. It then takes the moments the subconscious deems the most important and has the subconscious narrate it while the memories play. It's something like a cinematic movie of sorts", said the male master. At least someone was honest.
"I appreciate your honesty master", EMIYA could feel that this wouldn't end his way, "but I'd still like to refuse the offer. Besides, my summoning from the 5th Grail War was done poorly, so I can barely remember anything important about who I am". Maybe the excuse he gave Rin back then could work now. Blame E Rank Luck again. Is he sure it was E and not F? Regardless, he could sense something was about to happen. He was willing to go to any extreme in order to keep his identity a secret. What if his relationship with Arturia worsened, or worse, she stopped loving Shirou Emiya? He couldn't handle that.
"I've been trying to figure this out for the longest time! You are not going to give some flimsy excuse like amnesia from a past Grail War! By my command seal, fall asleep until I tell you to wake up again!". Was it a waste of a command seal? Yes. Would she be satisfied along with several other servants though? Yes. So in the end, to her, it was worth it.
"Gabby! What the hell?!", screamed Gudao. He didn't want to intrude on Archer's memories without consent for the whole ordeal, regardless of how curious he himself was.
"Oh come on! He hasn't given us his True Name or showcased his Noble Phantasm. We NEED to know more about him! Romani and I have been stressing over why he doesn't trust us alread-", EMIYA couldn't hear her finish. Drowsiness began to invade his mind. He was currently trying his best to remain awake against the order of a command seal through sheer willpower. EMIYA would fall asleep no matter what. Not even he was 100% sure why his master would be so stubborn; his name wasn't in history and he was no one of importance, after all. He fell unconscious onto the floor of the theater, his breathing evening out. Curse his F Rank Luck. Yes, he knew it was E Rank, but it definitely felt like F today.
Many servants were shocked by what their master just did. She used a command seal to try and force open another servant's secrets. However, they'd be hypocrites to call her out, for they too were overcome by curiosity. Normally, they wouldn't care about one servant's True Name, if it weren't for the fact that the Nameless Archer was the third servant summoned to Chaldea, Ushiwakamaru and Arturia being first and second. The man in red had been in the facility for a long time already. Maybe it was about time he revealed who he was. Besides, the more you try to hide something, the more people will be intrigued.
After seeing him finally hit the floor, Gabby went over to pick up Kanshou, the sword that he started carrying around his hip a few weeks ago. She grabbed the blade and put it in Da Vinci's machine. Gudao grew quiet, not even Mash was backing him up. The machine displayed the words "Please insert a valid Noble Phantasm." Well, this was confusing. Gabby thought about it for a bit. She decided to take Archer's cloak and put it in the machine. Again, the machine displayed the same words as before. Scratching her head and groaning a bit, she decided, screw it, I'll do this instead. Everyone watched how the master slowly dragged the unconscious servant, who was much larger than her, and struggled to place him on top of the machine. Surprisingly, the machine registered a Noble Phantasm and began to load the menu.
Some servants began whispering about who the archer could be. The Japanese servants were thinking that, considering how many swords he used, he could be the blacksmith Sengo Muramasa. However, Musashi quickly shot down the idea since she saw what the smith looked like in a singularity. But she didn't say anything against Archer being an older version summoned, or a different vessel. Of course, the Japanese servants were blatantly forgetting about the fact that he was an Archer Class servant, making it unlikely to be Muramasa.
Cú didn't know either. Frankly, he was just happy he'd get to the bottom of this man, who has tormented him for quite a while,'s identity. I mean, seriously… an archer exclusively using swords? How the hell did that make any sense? Well, he'd soon find out either way.
Mordred was thinking along the same lines as Cú, though she was also interested in seeing the brat who would be her step-mother… father? Genders and their pronouns became confusing when it came to her parents.
Arturia would be lying if she said that she was against the idea of seeing the man's memories. She wanted people to forget her moment of waiting endlessly for her former master. It was embarrassing to have her womanly side be exposed like that, and she didn't want to be teased by Merlin or her other knights. Arturia didn't agree with what Gabby did, but what happened, happened, she would stay and see the new 'movie'.
Merlin himself couldn't help but give a knowing smile, amused by the knowledge he already possessed, and anticipating a fateful reunion between two star-crossed lovers.
Finally, once the machine registered the Noble Phantasm, the projector began to play. It was showing what seemed like a menu. There were several movies lined up. They were titled: Counter Guardian, Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel, and Oath Under Snow. Most weren't expecting the archer to have several sets of memories, but it wasn't something extraordinary either. Some servants, such as Jack, had several different legends pertaining to them. So it wasn't rare to see someone with their soul being able to produce more than one movie.
As if it were normal to invade someone's personal space, Gabby clicked on the trailer for Archer's soul. Hey, Da Vinci wasn't playing around when it came to playing around later. They would watch the trailer first and then watch the movies in order. This was what was decided when the viewing of memories began.
The screen began to play the trailer. The lights went dark and the theater quieted.
