Warning: Some pretty light sexual stuff
One moment Renato was enthusiastically working on a new love bite on the crook of Harry's neck, the next Harry had a toddler–sized version of the man on his lap. While the smoke around them dissipated, Harry rubbed his chest in horrified fascination. It was the second time his Sun bond had snapped. It only lasted for a second or two, until his Flames automatically sought out the familiar Sun Flames and latched on to them, like Renato's had done in reverse ten years ago. Harry was glad he didn't have to deal with the consequences when the five minute limit of the ten-year bazooka was over. Once in a lifetime was bad enough.
Reborn flinched and also rubbed his chest, though for another reason. By the looks of it, he didn't quite understanding what had just happened. As the penny started to drop, his gaze became more suspicious and angry and his hand twitched towards his gun.
"Sorry, it's something I couldn't help." Harry gave the hitman a rueful smile. "The you from this time is my Sun Guardian and when you switched places, the bond recognized you as the same person. The same happened to me in the past, when the older you appeared on Mafia Island. Don't worry, the bond will be gone, when you go back. It's going to be your decision to become my Guardian for real."
Reborn's hand faltered over his gun and Harry saw right through his attempted poker face to the confusion, the dawning hope and the still bubbling anger.
"If you're lying, you will regret it. I can easily come back here."
Harry calmly let Reborn make his threats and take a look around the room. They were currently sitting in his office, on a couch that was part of a seating area meant for informal meetings. It was the same office Nono had used, albeit with different furniture and decor.
"So you did become Vongola Decimo," Reborn said smugly after scrutinising their surroundings and focussing his attention on Harry. His gaze paused on his halfway unbuttoned shirt and the love bite right above Harry's collarbone. It stopped again on the fire resistant wedding ring on his left hand.
"Are you curious?" Harry smirked at the Arcobaleno, already knowing the answer. He carefully grabbed Reborn and walked over to his huge mahogany desk. He plopped down on his office chair and pointed to the picture frames set up on the right corner of the desk. One of them was a group shot of Harry with all of his Guardians on the day he'd officially become Vongola Decimo. It had been taken in front of Vongola mansion. Another showed Blaise, who was not on his way to become Minister of Magic, but had instead started several organisations to stamp out various prejudices in the British magical world. Hermione, on the other hand, had become Minister of Magic two years ago. She'd researched the hell out of becoming the best leader possible, when Harry's inauguration was just around the corner (or, knowing Hermione, years before that point) and had then used the information to become a leader herself.
The picture he wanted to show Reborn, however, was the one of his wedding day. It had been a huge event, with more guests than Harry had been completely comfortable with. Most of those consisted of various mafia bosses affiliated with the Vongola and their most important entourage. The rest was family and friends - The most important guests, honestly.
Reborn shuffled closer to the picture, one hand outstretched, but not quite touching the glass. Harry couldn't even imagine what Reborn was feeling at that moment - to see that he was no longer cursed, had become a proud Sun Guardian to the boy who'd only been a job once upon a time and then married his Sky a few years later. To this day, the Obliviate was still in place and speaking of, it was almost time. Harry subtly flicked his wand into his hand and it was a testament to how absorbed Reborn was in the picture that he didn't even twitch. He whispered the spell, which connected seconds before Reborn puffed back to his own time.
When the cloud of smoke cleared, Harry leant back in his office chair and smiled up at his husband of five years.
"I'm glad that's over with. I forgot it was today," Renato admitted, as he sidled up to Harry, pushed his chair back a bit and slid into the place between the chair and the desk. Renato framed Harry's face with his hands and pressed a lingering, reassuring kiss on his lips. Before the switch, they had gotten a bit frisky on the couch, because Renato had been on a week-long mission and had only returned that day.
"Mh-hm, same. I've been swamped in work this week. And Mukuro broke in again," Harry said with a long-suffering sigh. Since the man had somehow broken out of Vindice Prison the second time, the Mist's uninvited visits had become a regular thing. Nowadays it felt more like an eccentric hobby of the man than an actual threat. He'd also dragged a young woman into his shenanigans, that could be his twin physically, but was actually a pretty nice person.
"Wasn't your meeting with Byakuran this week, too?" Renato asked, while he softly carded his fingers through Harry's unruly hair.
Harry groaned and let his forehead sink onto Renato's chest. Byakuran was a whole other type of annoyance than Mukuro, but if amusing him from time to time meant keeping the man from trying to take over the world, then Harry was willing to put up with him. Occasionally. And he sometimes did make a good friend and ally.
Unfortunately, Harry had to put up with a lot of those types of characters. Xanxus for example. The man was arrogant, aggressive and not a little volatile, but Harry knew Varia's leader grudgingly respected him. They'd first met around nine years ago, when Xanxus had kidnapped his (adoptive) father and replaced him with a fake. The fake Nono had suddenly approved his youngest son as his successor instead of Harry (not suspicious at all), which had led to Iemitsu Sanada starting a Ring Battle with Tsuna as the other (unwilling) participant. Harry and his Guardians had travelled to Japan to take care of that clusterfuck.
Even more unfortunate was their unexpected run-in with Iron Hat aka Checker Face aka Kawahira while in Japan. Kawahira had demanded the Sun and Storm pacifiers and alluded to a new Battle of the Rainbow, presumably because losing two Arcobaleno had caused an imbalance. From his short stay in Vindice Prison, Harry had known the Battles had been planned regardless. They'd already tried to improve the ritual in order to free the remaining Arcobaleno, but with the new information they'd gleaned from Kawahira's history lesson, they'd found a way to power the pacifiers without needless sacrifice.
It had been a few very stressful weeks.
"But enough about them," Harry said, leaning back and slowly unbuttoning the remaining buttons of Renato's shirt with a grin. "I think we should try to resume what we started earlier, before-"
An explosion sounded, the mansion vibrated a little and Harry uttered a long-suffering sigh. Renato, the traitor, smirked, revelling in the chaos as usual, when it didn't mean a direct danger to Harry. It couldn't be Severus, who was off buying potion ingredients and Hayato had visited Shamal only two days ago. Harry would place his bet on Spanner or the twins, or maybe both. His brother had become Vongola's primary inventor and the twins had, as a side-business, opened a joke shop a couple years ago. They were mostly responsible for inventing the products. The management of the shops, by now peppered all around the magical parts of Europe, were handled by staff.
Emrys, Harry's black Pantera di Cieli was probably already checking on the situation. It didn't like being in its box, so it usually followed Harry around and lazed in spots of light, but was fiercely protective of Harry. The most hilarious thing was, however, that Emrys treated Uri, Hayato's Gatto Tempesta, like a little kitten and always tried to groom it, when they saw each other. Uri hated it, but it was funny to everyone else. Emrys had left the room, when Reborn had arrived, already knowing what the two of them would get up to.
"At least you have Dame-Tsuna to commiserate," Renato mused, slipping out of his shirt completely.
"I don't know why you won't stop calling him that. He's become a surprisingly good leader," Harry said with an eye-roll, but still worked on getting out of his clothes, as well.
"For me he will always be Dame-Tsuna. I mean, who gets pressured into being their father's successor, after managing to dodge the bullet of becoming Vongola Decimo?"
"Well, in his defence, people still came after him, even after he was no longer a candidate, so he had to keep training anyway. And I'm glad I don't have to put up with Iemitsu anymore." Merlin, he still hated that man.
"But now shush, let's not talk about them anymore," Harry declared and pulled Renato closer for another kiss. They had time to talk later, now he wanted to spend some quality time with his husband.
Life was still complicated and all the pieces would probably never fall into place, but Harry was still happy with his life.
Basil is still his mostly chill self and Harry's calming balm in the chaos. Shamal and Severus do spy stuff among other things.
I thought about giving Harry one of the remaining 3 Leone di Cieli, but liked the Pantera better and I refuse to believe a Pantera is only possible if a "Gatto Tempesta evolves with Sun Stone". So here, have a Pantera di Cieli :P
