Twenty years after the dragons left, the alpha's life is busier than ever. This isn't helped by the fact that his three little hatchlings have grown into three medium fledglings who are stronger, smarter and keep finding new ways to cause trouble. As more and more viking ships appear over the horizon, what will happen to Toothless, to his family, and to Berk?

Astrid Hofferson, reluctant model, celebrity and It Girl is tired of living the same hollow life she's always lived so she runs to Berk, a small isle country in the UK to visit her aunt until the storm passes. Hiccup Haddock, son of Stoick (the lawperson of the Isle) is stuck between his parents' issues and fears he's losing the chance to pursue his dreams.

When a mysterious new teenager finds his way to Berk as a refugee, how well will he end up fitting in with the already established group of dragon riders? Is a new life possible again after having suffered much tragedy? Is there room in everyone's lives for just one more? Will this situation bring about conflicts or triumphs...or both? When Astrid reconnects with her estranged family things aren't what they seem.

Villains have become bolder, and Hiccup and his friends have to prepare themselves for future battles. However, while the heroes are getting stronger, the villains are as well, and both sides are preparing for war.

Over the ten years that'd pass following the defeat of Grimmel from the hands of Hiccup and the Hooligans, the left behind Barbaric Archipelago becomes the foundation for a previously hidden and unknown tribe to take matters into their own hands. Feelings of betrayal, abandonment, and being taken for granted culminate in a vengeful former Hairy Hooligan tapping into these feelings.
