A/N: I saw a quick video on twitter and the idea hit me. One-shot.
Disclaimer: I don't own Chuck
"You okay?" Zondra asked, sitting down beside her friend. Sarah looked up at Zondra, sighed, and went back to pushing her potatoes around with her fork.
"Men," Carina told Zondra, making Zondra snort. "Hey, Morgan," Carina called out, seeing him walk across the lunch room. Morgan grinned and nodded at her as he headed to the table he always sat at with his curly haired friend. As usual, his curly haired friend had his head shoved into a text book.
"The beard really does it for you, huh?" Zondra asked, cutting up her grilled chicken. The three women worked at Intersect Marketing. The owner, Alexi Volkoff insisted on his employees having all the amenities. An amazing kitchen where lunch was served every day, for no extra charge, an exercise room, a meditation room, and just about anything you could think of. The three knew they were lucky to find such a great job, and work place, and only be in their mid-twenties. Plus, the pay was terrific.
"He's also a good guy," Carina added with a shrug. "But don't tell him that."
"He's probably a frog," Sarah groused.
"Ah, she speaks," Zondra said, chuckling. "Bad date last night?"
"They're all bad dates," Sarah told Zondra. "It's like every decent guy is taken, or I scare them off, or something."
"Apparently she's on the, 'you have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince' kick," Carina told Zondra.
"I think my tongue has warts," Sarah muttered. "Did I tell you what Dan did?"
"No," Zondra replied. "Bore you to sleep? He did seem quite…boring."
"Oh, I wish he was," Sarah said. "Last night he took me out to dinner."
"What date number is this?" Carina asked.
"I don't know, third, fourth, fifth," Sarah told Carina. "And I wasn't going to go, but I thought he's a nice guy, if boring, and I'm tired of being home alone every night."
"Pressured her for sex," Carina whispered loudly to Zondra, knowing Sarah could hear.
"Seriously, that wouldn't have been as bad as what happened," Sarah said, going back to pushing her mashed potatoes around with her fork.
"Okay, now you have my attention," Carina said, sitting up, curious, making Sarah chuckle.
"So, we were running a bit late, and he said that if they were out of the special he'd be upset because that was the reason he brought me to the restaurant," Sarah continued. "I had had enough of his apologizing and told him. I told him it was fine, and if he did it again, I was going to smack him. I was joking with him about the smacking, but his eyes lit up and he said, 'Oh, really?'"
"Nooooo!" Zondra said. "Dan? DAN?"
"Dan," Sarah told her.
"He could have been trying to be funny," Carina pointed out.
"After we got seated, he told me he was a very bad boy and needed someone to punish him properly," Sarah told the two. They both howled with laughter. "I left."
"Have you heard from him?" Zondra asked after she got her laughter under control.
"Yes," Sarah said, sighing. "He text me and said he was sorry, whoops, he shouldn't have done that, was I going to smack him?" The two women laughed some more. "He then sent some emojis that ended with the raindrops. I promptly blocked him."
"I'm so sorry, Sarah," Zondra told her. Carina was silent, looking over at the table of Morgan and his friend.
"I just wish I could meet a good guy," Sarah said, gloomily. "I guess my weekend is now wide open." She went pack to pushing her potatoes with her fork, and finally dropped her fork in frustration.
"Wait, I just remembered, I was supposed to remind you to ask Sarah, about your grandmother," Carina said to Zondra.
"Is Granny Denise okay?" Sarah asked quickly.
"She's fine, as far as I know," Zondra told her. "I'm going to take her grocery shopping on Saturday."
"But you can't," Carina said. "You have that new project that you were going to work on."
Zondra narrowed her eyes at her friend, and then understanding covered her face. "That's right," Zondra said. Zondra turned to Sarah. "Would you mind taking her grocery shopping?"
"I would love to," Sarah said, truthfully.
"Now, I know the Large Mart is closer, but she really likes the Buy More Grocery over on Princeton Avenue," Zondra explained.
"I can do that," Sarah said.
"And listen, I can't really explain it, but you just need to stand back and let her do what she wants," Zondra told her.
"Okaayyyy," Sarah replied.
"I'm serious, whatever she brings to the car and into the grocery store, just let her," Zondra told Sarah. "Trust me." Sarah shrugged and nodded.

"Good morning, Granny Denise," Sarah said as the older woman opened the door. Sarah was pleased to see her smiling. Granny Denise was in her late eighties, was a bit hunched over, and shuffled, more than walked. Sarah offered Granny her arm and the two made their way to the car, albeit slowly.
"You seem excited," Sarah said as they took off for the grocery store.
"I am," Granny told Sarah, and looked over at Sarah. "I'm going to see my boyfriend today."
"Oh, I didn't know you were dating," Sarah replied, grinning.
"Oh, I'm not. I'm much too old for him, but it I were a few years younger, I would sweep him off of his feet," Granny told her. "How are you and your young man doing?"
"We aren't," Sarah replied. "Men and I…." Sarah sighed.
"Are you a lesbian? Because if you are, that's okay," Granny told her.
"No," Sarah said chuckling. "Just having trouble finding the right guy."
"Tell you what, I'll let you date my young man, you just make sure he's at the grocery store every Saturday morning," Granny told her. Sarah laughed and continued to drive, wondering what Granny's boyfriend was going to be like.

"Granny," the man said as the two women entered the store. "I see you brought your sister with you today."
"Oh, Mike," Granny said, swatting him gently on the arm. "This is my granddaughter's friend, Sarah."
"Sarah, welcome to Buy More Grocery, I am Big Mike, the manager," he welcomed her.
"Glad to be here," Sarah said.
"Does she know what is about to happen?" Big Mike asked Granny conspiratorially.
"I'm not sure," Granny admitted.
"Just one second," he said to Sarah. He pressed the button on the mike attached to his collar. "Bartowski, your nemesis is here, and she's armed."
"Copy that," came the voice over the mike.
"Anna!" Mike hollered. "Granny is here." A woman about Sarah's age ran up, a grin on her face, with a huge water gun that reassembled a rifle.
"Are you ready?" the woman Sarah assumed was Anna asked, handing the water gun to Granny.
"I'm ready," Granny replied. She looked around, and leaned toward Anna. "Is he wearing those good brown pants today?"
"Granny," Anna said, in a faux shocked voice, grinning. Anna looked around the same way Granny had. "He is," she replied, the two of them giggling. They started off and Sarah started to follow.
"Sarah," Big Mike said. "Perhaps you'd better enjoy this in my office." She gave him a look. "Trust me."
Sarah nodded, and followed him. "Now, I know this seems strange," Big Mike began. "But Granny has been coming here about six months, and when she first came to us, she was depressed."
"That was when her license was taken away, wasn't it?" Sarah asked. Big Mike nodded. "Zondra told me it had depressed her."
"It had," Big Mike agreed. He opened the door to his office and let her go in. He followed behind her and pointed toward the monitors. "The one there on the bottom."
"That looks like a guy that works at my place of work," Sarah said, confused.
"Chuck Bartowski," Big Mike said, nodding. "Watch."
Sarah saw Granny see Chuck, and Granny's eyes lit up. She aimed the water gun at him, and said something to Chuck. Chuck spun around and held his hands up. He then reached down, and snapped a button on his smock. His smock fell open and there he stood with what looked like breadsticks in pockets on the apron he wore inside the smock. He held up something in his hand. Sarah laughed, he looked like he was mimicking a man with a bomb. Sarah watched Granny laugh with glee.
After a minute, Anna walked Granny away, and Chuck went back to stocking, a smile on his face. "Good work, Bartowski," Big Mike said into the mike on his shoulder.
"Thanks, Big Mike," she heard him say. "Need me to shop for her?"
"That's a negative, Bartowski," Big Mike replied. "Anna would hurt both of us. Granny is heading over to talk to Roan."
"Copy," Chuck replied.
"Who is Roan?" Sarah asked.
"Roan and Lou run the coffee and pasty shop here inside the grocery store," Big Mike explained. "After Granny and Chuck have their Die Hard moment, we take Granny over to the shop, and Roan wait on her, talks to her, and treats her like a princess. Meanwhile, Anna gets everything on Granny's shopping list."
"I am so confused as to what all is going on here," Sarah admitted.
"Let me see if I can explain," Big Mike told her. "Bartowski started working for us in high school. He was a smart kid, wanted to go to Stanford, but didn't have enough financial aid, or money to go. He got a scholarship from the Buy More to help finish paying his way."
"Okay, that's awesome, but why is a Stanford graduate working two jobs?"
Big Mike frowned. "I'm trusting you here, Sarah." Sarah looked confused but nodded. "His roommate in college accused him of cheating and Chuck was kicked out of college."
"What?" Sarah asked.
"Yep," Big Mike replied. "We don't think he did it for a minute, but somehow they believed the roommate over Bartowski, and he was kicked out. He needed a job, and of course I rehired him in a heartbeat."
Big Mike frowned again. "He hid here for a few years, but it became obvious that man was destined for bigger things. I know Alexi Volkoff and had him stop by one day. I kept showing him around the store, especially where Chuck was working. Alexi is a genius and he quickly knew I was up to something."
"He is smart," Sarah said, nodding.
"Long story, short, I told Alexi everything and Alexi hired Chuck to work IT," Big Mike told her. "That was a year ago." Big Mike chuckled. "However, I underestimated Bartowski. He figured out what happened and came to me. He knew I was struggling to find someone to cover Saturdays and do all he did here."
"So that's why he's working here," Sarah said, beginning to understand.
"Well, it's not that simple, I refused to rehire him," Big Mike told her. "And then he told me he was required to repay Buy More for all of the scholarship money since he was kicked out of college."
Sarah's mouth dropped open. "Why?"
"Two reasons," Big Mike told her. "One, he felt he owed me. Two, he felt he owed the store that helped him when he was down."
"That's…that's…" Sarah struggled with what to say.
"Stupid? Dumb?"
"Altruistic," Sarah said.
Big Mike grinned and nodded. "He's taking night classes now to finish his degree, and working here to repay the store." Big Mike glanced at the monitor and watched Granny, and the man Sarah assumed was Roan.
"Okay, so how is Granny involved?" Sarah asked.
"Apparently your friend Zondra had a computer issue, and Chuck was in her office trying to fix it," Big Mike began. "He heard Zondra talking to her mother about how depressed Granny was. Zondra told her mother she would take Granny grocery shopping and Bartowski recommended her coming here, that we were nice people and maybe we could make her a little happier."
"Oh, that's sweet," Sarah found herself saying.
"What happened next…" Big Mike shook his head and chuckled. "Bartowski was stocking fruit and Granny found the one banana that was left and went over to him to ask if there were any more in the back. Chuck quickly threw his hands up and said, please don't shoot. Well, that tickled Granny and she did nothing but talk to your friend about that, 'nice young man,' the whole ride home."
"Ahhh," Sarah said.
"Apparently Zondra thanked Chuck and Chuck told her to bring her back Saturday and to have her try and stick him up with a banana again. Saturday rolled around, and Granny did. Chuck this time, spun, and pulled a banana out of each pocket and pointed them at Granny. She laughed and laughed."
"That is just so sweet," Sarah said.
"Since then, it's been escalating," Big Mike admitted. "Water pistols, water guns, and just anything we can find to make her and him have a standoff. It just delights her."
"Thank you," Sarah said. "I promise, his secret is safe with me."
"No problem," Mike said, standing. Sarah got up and started to leave. "You know he's single." Sarah paused and turned to look at Big Mike. "He always talks about you." Sarah's eyes went wide. "How you are always nice to him."
"I didn't even know his name," Sarah admitted.
"Doesn't matter, you were still nice," Big Mike said with a shrug.
"I held the door for him," Sarah replied. Big Mike shrugged. "I bet he's not a frog," she muttered.
"Excuse me?" Big Mike asked, confused.
"Nothing," Sarah replied. "Thanks again." Sarah went out of the office, and up front where Granny's groceries were being checked out. Chuck was bagging the groceries and loading up the cart. "Thank you," Sarah told him.
"My pleasure," he told her. He was silent as he bagged. "Hope you don't think less of me for working here."
"I don't," Sarah told him. Chuck nodded. "Big Mike told me your whole story." A touch of red appeared on Chuck's neck. "You did something most people wouldn't and I find that unusual and nice."
"I just try and do the right thing," Chuck said with a shrug. "Now, where are you parked?" he asked, putting the last bag in the cart.
"I can do it," Sarah told him.
"And while I absolutely believe you can," Chuck told her. "At Buy More Grocery, we believe in the full customer experience."
"Let him," Granny said. "I like to watch him push the cart." Sarah looked over at Chuck,, Chuck pressed his lips together, blew out his cheeks, and lifted his eyebrows.
"Fine, I guess we can follow him," Sarah replied, making Chuck laugh. The three went to Sarah's car. Sarah helped Granny into the car while Chuck loaded the groceries in the back. "I could have done that," she told him.
"You can unload them," Chuck replied, shutting her trunk. "Have a great day."
"You too," she said. He started to walk away as she made a decision. She spun on her feet. "Hey, Chuck?"
"Yeah?" he said, turning back around toward her.
"How do you feel about Mexican food?" she asked.
"HE LOVES IT!" Granny yelled from the front seat, grinning. Sarah gave him an amused look and Chuck just shrugged.
"How does she know that?" Sarah asked, laughing.
"No idea, she just told me if you ask me out, to keep my mouth shut and she'd take care of it," Chuck replied. "Really, you don't have to go out with me."
"I know," Sarah said. "I'd like to go out with you." She started to get into her car, and stopped. "Chuck."
"Yes?" he said spinning back around to her.
"Tonight?"
"Yeah," he replied. "Granny gave me your number."
"Don't be a frog, Chuck," she said as she started to get into her car.
"I'm sorry, a what?"
"A frog," Sarah said, and then she sighed. "I'm sorry, but it's just lately, everyone I've gone out with…they say you have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince."
"I don't know if I'm a prince, but I promise, I won't give you warts from having dinner with me," Chuck told her.
"Okay," Sarah said, grinning. She got into the car, and watched him push the cart back into the store.
"So, are you going to take me to get my groceries for now on?" Granny asked, grinning.
"Probably," Sarah admitted as she started the car.
