They were all fighting on the training ground, trying their utmost best to catch others flag. Aizawa had come up with some training that would have them fight between themselves without it simply being one on one fights. "Villains won't always take you on one on one fights, you must be able to face many opponents," he had explained as everyone was passing around the flags, "This exercise is similar to what happened at the sports festival: everyone as a flag and you need to steal the others flags. This time around, no team made, if you lose your flag you are out and needs to run laps until I decide you have to stop, the more flag you have, the harder it will be to take you down. The last one standing won't need to follow the punishment"
Everyone was pretty hyped up by the task given to them, not wanting to have to run laps until they would collapse, which was more likely to happen than their teacher telling them to stop. Despite it being a very solo objective, some seemed to have teamed up for the time being. Although some of the firsts to fail were not too much of a surprise, it was simply because their quirks were not specialised in that kind of practice.
Without much surprises, Bakugo was one of the most invested, really trying to get back to Todoroki for how things went in the sports festival, although it was hard when he was also a target for the many flags he had himself. Midoriya was one of those people. He was waiting for an opening, analysing how others were moving at the same time, not wanting to get caught too and because they were involuntary creating opening for him.
He finally had an opening when he saw him jump to dodge an attack from Todoroki, yet also having Asui going for it too, distracting the alpha. Only once in midair, when he was getting close to Bakugo for the first time since the start of the lesson, did something caught his attention, making him lose focus for a second, before being hit from the side, sending him flying.
Upon landing on the ground Midoriya suddenly felt weak, a familiar feeling starting to wash over him. When he tried standing up his knee gave in, seemingly not really appreciating the idea of keeping him up. Upon realising what was going on, panic started to rise in him. Had he really suddenly got in heat? But it wasn't supposed to! He knew he still had two more weeks normally before he was supposed to do so, and he was always taking his suppressant without mistake.
But the whys weren't what he needed to worry about at the moment. Right now he needed to get out of the training ground before something bad happen.
Everyone seemed to have suddenly stopped their fighting. All the young alphas frozen in place, surprised by the sudden strong scent; Betas on the other hand surprised to see Midoriya in such a state, not understanding what was happening. All the attention didn't help him feel less anxious, trying to move his body to get out of there.
He was surprised went he felt himself being suddenly wank away from where he was, landing a little more softly this time against Aizawa. The older man already had covered his nose with the binding cloth, cutting as best as he could the smell. Midoriya looked back at his teacher, seemingly grateful for how quick he was to react in this situation.
When he looked back towards the training ground his eyes met with Bakugo's and panic suddenly rose in him at his sight, a shiver going down his back. Aizawa was quick to catch up to it, locking eyes on the young man to erase his quirk.
"Quick, everyone restrains Bakugo" he ordered. The first one to snap out of the shock was Todoroki, creating a tall wall of ice to block them from the duo, turning to see that Sero and Yaoyorozu were already on it to restrain the wild alpha.
"Where do you think you are taking him!? take him back!" roared Bakugo, making Midoriya flinch slightly had the drastic change of atmosphere, feeling more affected than usual because of his state.
"Can you walk?" asked the teacher, ignoring all the cursing happening behind them. Midoriya closed his eyes, trying to calm down as he shook his head to indicate that he couldn't. His body was feeling too hot and weak to walk all the way back to the nurse office. Maybe if they had been in the building, but not now. He heard a faint sigh before being picked up, the older man quickly taking him back to recovery girl so he wouldn't have to keep him too close either, tightening a little more the cloth around his face.
"I am sorry for the trouble..." whispered the young man after a couple of minutes in silence. "hm... this isn't really your fault, don't be sorry," responded Aizawa "...it's not that much of a bother to me".
Midoriya seemed a little confused by his words, as he knew only one way an alpha would be less affected by an omega scent, yet he hadn't really expected that from him for some reason. "Sensei...
do you have a-".
"Aizawa!" suddenly came a voice further in front of them, "I had something to ask yo- Wait, is there something wrong with young Midoriya?". The young man looked away from the alpha who had ignored his attempt at a question, seeing instead the worried look on All Might face instead.
"Take him," asked Aizawa, passing him to the other pro hero, finally taking a couple of steps back as an attempt to let the young omega feel safer away from any alpha. All Might took him in his arm, surprisingly strong despite his lanky look of the moment. He still looked confused, but could easily connect the dot. "Just take him to the nurse office, I imagine Recovery girl might have something to help him, or at least leave him the side room".
"What happened?" asked All Might. Aizawa seemed to think about it, before shaking his head "I don't know, you can maybe ask Midoriya when he gets better" he suggested, already turning to go back to his class "For now I have another problem to deal with".
All Might seemed like he wanted to ask more, but looked back at the young omega and quickly started to walk to the nurse office instead, the safety of his student more important than this detail, he could ask later when he would meet back with his colleague. Midoriya felt himself relax more in the pro hero arms, only now realising how tense he had still been around Aizawa, despite it not being as much as with everyone else. He clenched his jaws, realising he didn't have much choice but to accept he couldn't fully control how his body could react when he was in heat, although he doubted it was something one really could do.
When they finally arrived, Recovery Girl didn't seem that surprised to see him anymore, although she managed to understand this time was for another reason than a broken bone. "I thought your next heat was supposed to be in two weeks" pointed out All Might, trying to approach the subject as best as he could, not wanting to brusk him when he was in that kind of state.
"I... I don't know," admitted Midoriya after thanking the nurse for the medicine that she had given to him, which was supposed to help tone down the effect of his heat, not cancel it, but at least making it less hard on him. He started mumbling as he thought back to what they were doing in their training, not seeing anything that could have triggered such a thing. He had never had his heat start this much earlier than it was supposed to.
"May I make a suggestion?" gently interrupted the old woman, "In the past months you have been around many alphas, all with different rut cycles, maybe your cycle was affected by them involuntarily,
Schools normally try to balance their classes with the number of omega and alpha present to prevent such imbalance problem to occur, both sides can be affected after all. UA cannot possibly do such a thing with the very low number of omega taking classes, and your case is even harder to help as you were hiding being an omega".
Midoriya frowned at the suggestion, hating the idea that his own body could just decide to act up on him just because it wanted to find a mate. With how well thing had been for him recently, he had forgotten that he didn't have full control of his own body, which wasn't something he liked to think about.
The two adults could very clearly see how displeased he was at the idea, All Might trying to offer him a reassuring smile. "This is only a hypothesis, it could also be your training affecting your body too much, which would be my fault" he suggested instead, only to have the young man look up at him to argue it wasn't his fault.
"For now I cannot tell exactly why it happened, but I will search a way to prevent it to happen again in the future" stated Recovery Girl, cutting the omega in his monologue on how it wasn't All Might fault. "For now you should rest, you can even stay in the side room, it was made so scent wouldn't leak from it and attract anyone, until your body cools down it wouldn't be wise to try and go back home on your own".
Midoriya accepted the suggestion, feeling tired from all this and only wanting to ignore for a while what had happened earlier. He thanked both of them, also asking All Might if he could thank Aizawa for his help.
When he was finally alone, Midoriya tried to calm himself and forget for a moment what had happen. Despite himself, he couldn't help himself but worry about what would happen in the next days, when he would be back in class. Clearly, he couldn't hide it from his classmates anymore. All this made him feel anxious again.
He was back in school only a couple of days later, having received permission to stay home until he was fully out of his heat. Through those days he had managed to forget a little about his worries, yet now that he was approaching their classroom, he couldn't help but get anxious again.
He was hesitating at the entrance of the room, still not in sight of anyone, bad memories coming back and making him unable to take a step in. He was pulled out of his bad thoughts when he heard his name being called out from beside him. "Deku! You are finally back with us" smiled Uraraka, catching the attention of those already in the class.
The young man felt paralysed in place with all those pair of eyes now on him, making him want to bolt in the opposite direction. Iida was the first one to actually make a move, walking to go and join them at the entrance of the room. "Are you doing better? We got worried once things had settled down a little" asked the alpha.
Midoriya managed to relax a little, yet he was still visibly on edge, as if apprehending the worst. He still went inside the room to join Iida with Uraraka. "Yes, I am better, sorry for worrying you guys" slightly laughed the omega, scanning the room quickly to see who was there.
He jumped slightly when he heard Kirishima suddenly spoke right next to him "So Midoriya is an omega?" he asked, not beating around the bush. "You can't just ask like that!" scolded Iida, going on how he should be a little less blunt about it, especially since Midoriya had just come in. "It's fine Iida don't worry," he tried to reassure, not wanting for Kirishima to feel bad for simply asking what everyone here wanted to confirm. He still seemed to hesitate before finally telling him that it was true.
"But it so weird, I never caught that before," commented Sero from his desk, "Can your quirk also hide your scent? Even now I can't smell it at all". Iida seemed like he wanted to be outraged by such blunt and invasive question, yet he was also wondering how come none of them had actually sensed it.
"No I don't have such a quirk," he replied, although he wouldn't be against it, "I am taking medicine given by Recovery Girl to keep it hidden". He wasn't sure if telling them directly was really fine, but they all already knew about him at this point and they would probably end up finding out at some point.
"But why did Deku wanted to hide it?" asked Uraraka, not seeing the problem in being an omega. Midoriya blocked on this question, unsure as to how he could say it without sounding like he wasn't trusting them.
After seeing how troubled he was by the question, Kirishima seemed to catch up "Did you thought we would treat you badly for it?! Of course we wouldn't think different of you". Midoriya couldn't help but look away at his reaction, knowing it was probably not a pleasant thing to learn that he didn't want to tell them since he was scared of backlash.
"Midoriya most likely as his reason for feeling uneasy about it being known from the get go," commented Todoroki calmly, "As accepting as you might be of omegas, it is not something every alpha or even beta do, so it is understandable for him to keep it hidden from us, especially in a field dominated by alpha".
Everyone had turned to him listening to his explanation, which Midoriya was grateful he did, saving him the need to actually articulate it that way without rambling and getting nervous.
"Also, maybe Midoriya as had bad experiences in the past in this regard" pointed out Asui. Everyone turned back to the omega on that comment, making him tense as he absolutely didn't want to go back over all his past trouble.
"Guys I don't think Deku want to talk about it" pointed out Uraraka when she saw how tense her friend was, trying to make them change the subject. Some of them were indeed curious, although they also felt like they already had a clue with how Bakugo was acting around him.
"Then did Bakugo knew? He never mentioned it" pointed out Mineta, only to have many of his classmates look back at him as if the answer was obvious. Of course to them it was a given that Bakugo would know, they did mention growing up together, Midoriya most likely did not hide it since he was assigned as an omega. And it was also nowhere near his right to tell everyone, which was actually a little surprising to some that he never even hinted at it since they started school.
There was a silence before Kirishima decided to break it, "With all this, I think it really good Aizawa-sensei managed to get you to the nurse office the other day". The young man looked back at him, clearly curious about what he was meaning by that. "I think it would have been... too much for you," he said, hesitating a little with how to formulate it. Seeing only more confusion in Midoriya's eyes rather than displeasure at his word he kept going, "Bakugo went absolutely berserk when he took you away, it was really scary to see even for me!" he explained, "It took Sero, Yaoyorozu and Todoroki to finally stop him from trashing all around the place".
Midoriya wasn't sure what to think of this, as he knew it was very much his fault that Bakugo had acted in such a way. "D-did Kacchan injured anyone?" he asked worriedly.
"No, we managed to calm him down enough to let him go, he didn't fight too much with us after that" stated Todoroki. "You should have kept him in the ice because it was nearly just as worst when sensei came back", pointed out Kaminari.
"What do you mean?" asked Midoriya, turning back to Kirishima who was already ready to keep retelling the event. "He got really mad at Aizawa-sensei for having your scent all over him, of course it would happen since he was so close to you, but Bakugo wouldn't listen to anyone and decided to fight him, he did get be-"
He was interrupted when they all heard an explosion coming from the entrance of the room, an angry voice yelling already "Oi shitty hair, quit talking bullshit in people's back! I don't need Deku of all people to get weird ideas!".
With Bakugo's sudden outburst and the start of a fight with Kirishima, the room seemed to shift back to a more usual routine. It helped Midoriya relax a little more, going back to his seat as everyone attention was finally away from him. A sense of relieve then fully washed over him, happy to see that things would most likely not change much between him and his classmates. He couldn't help but be overjoyed by this, it was such a change from middle school.
