"I am so sorry young Midoriya, I wanted to go over your training since you asked, but I still have so many grades to do". Midoriya was taken out of the notes he was taking, seeing how sorry All Might look like.
"This is okay! I was the one who suddenly asked out of the blue" reassured the omega with a smile, "Even if we can only talk a little bit about it will be okay". Clearly, being a teacher wasn't something the pro hero was used to, he did seem to get used to it, but it was obviously still a little hard for him to keep up with all the work.
Midoriya got up to make himself some tea again, preparing a little more in case All Might wanted some again. "Aizawa can be a pro hero and a teacher without problems, he really is doing it greatly" commented the hero to compare himself to. "Aizawa-sensei as been a teacher for longer too, I know you can become as good as him in the future" encouraged the young man, knowing All Might could do it, as he was already doing his best with him.
As he was waiting for the water to heat up, he walked back to where his mentor was, trying to see how much work he had been able to do. His attention caught on something before he could even do that, looking at All Might's neck. Was it... a bite mark?
Before he could control himself, his fingers had already reached out to brush away his hair a little to the side to see better. He jumped when a hand suddenly came to hide it, All Might going silent as he turned back towards him with a surprised look on his face. Midoriya quickly withdrew his hand, unable to say anything since too many things wanted to come out at the same time.
"All Might, are you-" he started before clasping a hand on his mouth, this wasn't what he wanted to say first, he wanted to apologise for it. A tense silence then fell into the room, as if the time had frozen. Only when the sound of the water being ready a couple of seconds later did they seem to snap out of it, All Might looking to the side seemingly thinking. "Get the tea ready, I have something to tell you...".
He had never noticed, All Might was so tall compared to him, and many people, so he could never have seen it without him sitting down. And his hair was long enough to hide it some more.
Midoriya had made some tea really quickly, going back to his seat, All Might having already cleared up the table. The man seemed to really be unsure how to start this, Midoriya simply waiting in silence to not pressure him. He was still unable to process what he had just stumbled onto. All Might had been a reason for the raise of beta in the previously very alpha dominated work that is being a pro hero. It still was, but way less than it had been before, even opening the door slightly for omegas to also be heroes.
"Why hiding it, it could have..." it could have help making society see that omegas were not good for nothing, could have shown him and the other that he still had a chance. With how All Might was seen by the public, so much could have come out of that.
But he somehow could understand parts of it, All Might wanted him to be the next symbol of peace, yet he himself wanted to hide as much as possible that he was an omega. He couldn't be mad at him for never making it publicly known.
"I know what you think... but it is a complicated matter, today I am seen as the symbol of peace, but it wasn't like this from the start". The man seemed to really have complicated thoughts about all of this. "And I would most likely not have been seen as the symbol of peace if it had been know early in my career."
"But it also never exactly occurred to me... being an omega was never something that had affected me as much as it does to you" he explained, pausing a little, "I seem to be one of those with anomalies when it comes to their second gender, it was found rather late compared to others, it is part of the reason why I could look the way I did, mixed with One for All obviously".
"So you never saw yourself as an omega?" asked Midoriya, unsure of how it was possible to forget about something like that. Just being in heat was a hard enough reminder to him. The young man really wanted to take note about this, but knew he couldn't.
"I wouldn't say never saw myself... more forgetting because everyone else is seeing me as a beta. Things were not as they are today, if people were to know I am an omega, I doubt I would have been able to do what I did" explained the man.
"What about... your... heat" asked Midoriya, feeling awkward to be the one asking about this.
"I still have them, they were just never as strong as they normally should have been, I suppose this is due to my condition. It was easy to just skip for a day and then being back like it was nothing. Today they are even less of a problem for me, since it cannot really affect other alphas".
Midoriya could put two and two together easily, understanding that it was due to his bond. It was somehow... reassuring to hear him talk about it. He couldn't fully understand all the implication of All Might second gender becoming public, but being able to know was giving him confidence about the future.
Although he did got stuck on one part. Would it means that he would need to find a partner for everything to be better? He must have been doing a funny expression since All Might started again, as if able to guess what the young man was thinking. "It is not an obligation... but it does help and can keep you safer in some situation, especially if you intend to keep your second gender hidden too".
Midoriya felt a little pained at the thought of needing one. He was never intending on telling Bakugo about them, yet he had never actually planned to find someone else. He decided to shake away those feeling and thoughts, not wanting for his head to drift away from the subject.
"So did All Might bonded only out of needing it" he asked, before his brain decided to overthink it, an horrifying idea coming to his mind, looking back up at All Might with worries.
All Might seemed surprised by the question, but the more startling was the sudden worries on his student's face. "It wasn't forced on me" he reassured him first, guessing it was the source of his worries, "But it wasn't all out of needing one either" he admitted.
Midoriya seemed immediately relieved at his answer, reassured it wasn't forced on him either. He started to smile again, wondering if All Might was able to happily be with his partner. He wouldn't expect to have noticed, for obvious reasons many heroes were keeping their dating life a secret, All Might not being an exception to this trend. "Is it too much asking who it is?".
The older omega seemed to hesitate before answering, "I don't think this person would like for this information to be known by other people" he simply answered. The young man was surprised by the faint sadness he could see in the man eyes.
"Is... your relationship with this person bad?".
"... I am not sure if bad would be the best description, but it is not good either" he admitted before falling silent, looking down at his hands, "But I can understand why that person doesn't want to see me much, I did abandon them when going in America... they must have thought I only used them".
Midoriya wasn't sure what to think. He had never seen All Might with such a sad expression on his face before. He shouldn't be butting in, but he wanted to help him a little, or at least make it less worst. "Did you try telling this person how you feel? Or explain that it was never to use them, I am sure All Might would never bond with someone if it wasn't someone he liked too".
He saw the man looking back up at him, looking unconvinced by his advice, yet he didn't turn it down either, smiling slightly at him "Thank you for your advice, Midoriya".
The mood was a little less heavy than when they were directly talking about that, the young man thinking changing subject could be a good idea. All Might took a breath, and Midoriya could swear it was a little shaky, before getting back to his usual self. "If young Midoriya needs any advice, you can come to me, I want to help you as much as I can with my own experience, because I can see a lot of myself in you".
The young omega seemed really happy at the suggestion, accepting it immediately. Like this, things went back to the usual, leaving to the side what they had been talking about, of course not without All Might making sure he wouldn't tell anyone else.
This had given more confidence for Midoriya, he was even more motivated to succeed. But it had also given him some things to worry a little about, leaving him unsure of what he was supposed to do about his fated pair and getting a bond.
Could he find someone that could take Bakugo place? Yet would he really be happy with this? Would this person also feel used if he did so? This was all too much to think about for now, maybe he could figure that out later.
