When they get to the hospital they are examining Maura. Jane fills them in on who she is and what happened.
Maura has sustained multiple broken bones. She has some cuts on her face and hands. She fought Hoyt. She has a head injury too. As much as Jane hates to ask, she asks them to do a rape kit. She also asks for a tox panel so that they know what they may need to do to counteract what she was given.
She doesn't know what she'll do to Hoyt if he raped Maura. She looks at Olivia and tells her that she'll kill him with her own two hands if he did.
They take Maura for a CT and x-rays to get a full assessment of what injuries they are dealing with.
Jane is pacing and has been for almost 2 hours. She's been waiting for answers. Olivia has been great support, but she wants Maura.
Olivia calls Jane to her and removes the two wires that Jane forgot she even had on.
Jane pulls her phone out and calls her mother. "Ma, she's alive, but we're at the hospital."
"Janie, Frankie called me and told me that you found her. That's all he told me."
Jane continues talking to Angela, she is crying. "Ma, he had her in a glass box. He was trying to suffocate her. She's beat up. She at least has a concussion. She's got some broken bones. Her knuckles are a mess, she fought back. I am having them do a rape kit. I'll kill him with my bare hands if he raped her. Ma, I love Maura. She has to be okay. I hate this."
"Janie, is there anyone there with you?"
"Yes, Captain Benson is here with me."
"Let me talk to her, please."
"Ma, I'm fine. No."
"Jane Clementine Rizzoli, give her the phone."
Jane hands the phone to Olivia, "My mother wants to talk to you."
"Mrs. Rizzoli, this is Olivia Benson."
"Is she okay? Jane, I mean?"
"Yes, we got to Hoyt before he was able to hurt Jane. I'm going to stay with her until I know it's okay to leave. My team and Agent Dean are taking care of Hoyt."
"Thank you Olivia. Since I can't be there, I'm glad you are. I've looked into you and you are the best."
"Mrs. Rizzoli, it's my pleasure. She's a great woman and a wonderful detective. She is good at her job. You've raised at great daughter."
"You need to come to Boston so I can thank you properly."
"I'd like that Mrs. Rizzoli, thank you."
"Tell Jane to call me with an update later. Please give her a hug from me. Thank you Olivia."
"Goodbye Mrs. Rizzoli."
She gives Jane her phone back and gives Jane a hug, "That's from your mom."
"Of course it is..."
The doctor comes them Maura is in a room. The CT showed a subdural hematoma but it's not as bad as they expected. She has a few broken ribs, a broken arm, a broken foot and a broken ankle. She has bruises on the broken arm, looks like she was grabbed and held. The foot looks like she may have kicked something or someone. Jane, in her head is thinking, "Hell yeah Maura. Kick him in the balls". The rape kit shows no semen and no sign of forceable intercourse. The quick tox panel came back with a heavy dose of propofol. They expect her to wake up when the propofol is out of her system. Of course they are watching her closely.
"Doctor, can I go sit with her?"
"Of course, detective."
"Olivia, go home to your son. There isn't anything else you can do tonight. I'll stay here in case she wakes up."
"Jane, are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just want to be with her right now."
"Okay, call me if you need anything. I'll see you in the morning."
Olivia has arranged to have one of her detectives to stay at the hospital. She's also got a protective detail at Maura's door. She wants to make sure that one of Hoyt's friends doesn't have plans to attack Maura again or to take Jane.
Jane goes into Maura's room and pulls the chair close to the bed. She takes Maura's hand in hers. She rests her head on their hands, crying. "Maura, I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's my fault. Hoyt was trying to get to me and he went thru you this time. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't gotten to you in time. Maura, I love you. I need you in my life."
Jane sits there just looking at Maura. Holding her hand, stroking her face, stroking her hair. This beautiful woman laying here, sleeping and broken. Jane wants to take the pain away. Jane falls asleep holding Maura's hand. She wakes up to Detective Rollins touching her shoulder.
"Rollins, you don't need to be here. I'm good."
"I know, but I thought you might like some company. Any change?"
"No. She's still out. They need her to wake up but they also want to manage the pain. It's a tricky balance."
"I understand that. I have an update for you though. Hoyt says he was working alone, but based on his history, he's not. Agent Dean isn't letting him off the hook until he gives up something. That explains the detail at the door."
"Yeah, he never works alone. That's the scariest part of all of this. You never know who he has in his pocket."
"Jane, can I bring you anything?"
"Can you ask for a blanket for me? I'm not going anywhere."
"You got it. I'm going to stick around for a while. Just let me know if you need anything."
I nurse brings Jane a blanket. She wraps up and rests her head on Maura's bed. She hasn't slept much since Maura was taken. Maybe she can get some rest now.
Jane wakes up and sees the sun coming thru the window. She slept. Slee actually slept. About 4 hours, but she slept. She was still holding Maura's hand. As she started to stir a little she felt Maura's fingers move. Jane opened her eyes. She was looking into Maura's eyes. Maura smiled, painfully, but she she smiled.
"I knew you'd find me. And Jane, I love you too."
Jane just looked at Maura and smiled. "Oh, uh, you heard that?"
"Yes, I did. I heard it all. I wanted to speak but I couldn't. I was in an odd state. My mind could hear and process but I couldn't move or respond."
"Maur, I'm so sorry that Hoyt took you. He is always trying to get to me, you know that. This is all my fault."
"Jane, don't blame yourself. Hoyt was going to to what Hoyt wanted to do. He got me this time. I fought him, which didn't make him happy. He didn't expect that from me."
"No, I guess not. He usually expects you to respond in your normal scientific way and not physical. Is that how you were able to keep yourself in as good a shape as you did?"
"I think so. I don't know. He drugged me Jane. I don't know what all he did to me."
"Well, as you can probably tell, you have some broken ribs, a broken arm, a broken foot, broken ankle. A sub dural hematoma and some cuts and other bruises. He did a number on you."
"I think he broke my arm when he grabbed me. My foot probably broke when I kicked him. He took my shoes away from me. He twisted my ankle when he did it. I don't really know how I got all the others. Oh, my gosh. My face. Are there cuts on my face?"
"Okay, Doctor, I had a plastic surgeon do that work. Geez. Even in a hospital bed, drugged up you're worried about your face. Gorgeous as though it may be."
"Oh, Jane. Don't make me laugh. It hurts. I know that Hoyt drugged me. Please tell me, did he rape me?"
"There are no signs of forceable intercourse and there is no bruising. I had them do a rape kit and it was negative for semen and spermacide, so I don't think so."
"Oh, good. I don't know what I'd do if he did. "
"I know what I'd do, I'd kill him with my bare hands."
The doctor comes in to check on Maura. He fills her in on what happened. Pretty much what Jane said, but he throws in more medical terms. Jane steps outside the room and sees that Olivia is there with Rollins.
"Olivia, she's awake. She's fine."
Olivia gives Jane a hug, "I told you she would be. Based on everything you told me about her, she's a fighter."
"Rollins, thanks for staying last night. I appreciate it. Anymore news on Hoyt?"
"No. He's still saying it was a solo job. Agent Dean doesn't believe him."
"Me either. I want to talk to him myself. I am going to see if someone from Boston can come stay with Maura."
"Jane, Kat is on her way. She can stay with Maura."
"I'm going to go sit with Maura until Kat gets here."
Jane walks into Maura's room. Maura smiles at her. Jane's hearts melts.
She sits down and takes Maura's hand. "Maur, I have been working with Manhattan SVU. They've been great. They helped so much in finding you. I can't wait for you to meet them all. I have to leave for a while, but I promise I'll be back. I'm going to leave you with Detective Katriona Tamin. She goes by Kat. I think you'll like her. There is also a protection detail at the door. You're going to be safe, okay?"
Maura trusts Jane completely. "I know Jane. You've saved me, I know you won't do anything to put my in harms way again."
"Never", she bends over and kisses Maura's cheek. "I do have an important question for you though. Was Hoyt working alone?"
"Jane, I don't remember. I'm sorry. I've honestly been trying to remember but I was scared to tell you that I didn't know."
"It's okay. He drugged you. If you do remember, you know how to find me."
Kat Tamin walks in the room. "Detective Rizzoli, nice to see you again. I am assuming that this lovely lady is Doctor Maura Isles."
"Yes, Kat, you're right. She's one of a kind. Do you mind keeping her company for a while?"
"Not at all."
Kat and Maura start talking. Maura of course is fascinated with Kat's upbringing and her travels.
Jane checks in with the protective detail. Names, badge numbers, etc... she wants to know who is guarding Maura when she's not there.
