Just before the two get on the road Jane calls Angela to let her know that they are on their way. She also calls Korsack. She let's him know that they'll be back before dinner time. It's only a 3 1/2 -4 hour drive, under normal circumstances. They also talk about Jane taking some time off to help Maura adjust at home.

"Jane, thank you again for all you did. I'll never be able to thank you enough."

"Maur, I did it because I wanted to. Even if I wasn't in love with you, you're my best friend. I'll never let anyone hurt you."

"Jane, I'm in love with you too. I have wanted to tell you for so long. I think the first time I wanted to tell you was when we were in the morgue, laughing about you making a joke while mispronouncing a scientific term I used. You were so cute. I had to stop myself from just saying 'I love you' in the middle of my laughter."

"Really? You think I'm cute?", Jane says giggling.

"Yes, you're cute. You're beautiful. You're intelligent. You're funny. You're loyal. You're so much to me and so many other people."

"Maura, you are beautiful. Your eyes are so striking. Your smile lights up a room. You're the intelligent one."

The two women take each other's hand and smile at each other.

"You know Maura, everyone at home knows that I professed my love for you?"

"What??"

"Yeah. When your were entombed I got next to it and told you that I loved you and that I had for a long time. I wasn't thinking about the fact that I was still wired. No one has said anything to me about it though. I did call my mother and I told her."

"And what did Angela say? Please tell me she was okay with it."

"She was. She loves you like a daughter and then she added, 'whatever makes you happy'. It kind of surprised me."

"Oh, I'm so glad Jane. I don't know what I'd do if your mother didn't support this relationship. Oh...sorry."

"Sorry about what?", Jane looks at Maura with a raised eyebrow.

Maura is a little hesitant to answer.

"The word relationship. We haven't discussed that. I don't want to make any assumptions about anything."

"Maur, I would like nothing more than to be in a relationship with you. I'd be honored for the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to be my girl."

Maura smiles big, a gleam in her eyes, "You girl, huh? I like the sound of that."

"Yeah? You do?"

"Very much so, Jane. You already make me happy and feel safe, and that's just with your friendship."

"Maura, I've never done this before. I've always dated men, and you know that none of them ever worked. In the past I always felt like something was missing. Since I met you, well, I knew that the something missing was you."

Maura is blushing and smiling. She squeezes Jane's hand and looks out the window. All she can think about is going forward with her life, with Jane by her side.

"Maur, I just love that smile of yours."

"I have a feeling that you're going to see it a lot. You make me smile."

The two stop halfway to Boston for a quick stop. They get back on the road. They should be back in Boston around 3pm, at Jane's by 330, then Maura's just after 4.

"Oh, Doctor, I'm taking some of my 12 weeks of vacation to help take care of you until you can go back to work. So, when we get to Boston I'm stopping by my place to pick up some clothes and stuff before I take you home."

"Jane, you don't have to do that."

"Then how do you expect to get around with a broken foot and ankle and a broken arm. If it wasn't also the arm you could use crutches, but in this condition, you can't. So, I win."

"I guess I need to concede. You will stay at my house. Now, we may have to get your some beer. I only have a few in my refrigerator."

"Babe, I love you", Jane says with a huge smile.

"I love you too. Why did my comment make you say that? Not that I mind you saying that you love me."

"You thought about how much beer you have for me in the fridge. That is not something you would have even considered keeping in your refrigerator before you met me."

"Well, you're my best friend, of course I keep beer for you. Well, now you're my, I guess, girlfriend, so I will always have beer for you."

"Girlfriend. Hmmm...yeah. Girlfriend." , Jane smiles, big.

"So, Babe, while we're on this topic of conversation, do we need to lay down some ground rules?"

"Ground rules? Like what?"

"Well, I don't know. I just don't want any misunderstandings or anything.

You already have a key to my house and I have a key to your apartment."

"Maur, our relationship, prior to this new relationship, has always been honest. We just need to continue that and be open."

"Agreed. How are we going to navigate things at work?"

"Well, everyone in homicide already knows, we aren't each other's direct report, you only report to the Governor, so I think we just use common sense."

"I've just never dated anyone I worked with before."

"How do you want to, as you put it, navigate, things this week while I'm at your house?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you're dependent on me to bathe you, dress you, cook for you and overall care for you. I'm glad I have the ability to do so, but it is a totally different type of dynamic to our relationship than either of us could have expected."

"Oh, you're right. I didn't think of that. It does change the entire dynamic. Well, I'm a medical professional, I can approach this as such. You'll be like an aide."

"But, Maura, now I'm your girlfriend. This is a new relationship. I'm going to see you naked. Are we ready for that step already?"

"Well, I can be professional. Can you, Jane?"

"I don't know. I guess we'll see. I mean, I do think you're incredibly hot."

"Jane! Oh wait, you think I'm hot?", Maura says with a flirtatious grin.

"Um, yeah. Very.", Jane answers with a 'you've gotta be kidding me' tone. "Maura, you are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. You're sexy."

"Well, Detective, your long legs, your curly hair, your deep brown eyes, your sexy husky voice... you make me melt."

"Make you melt? Doesn't that mean that I've got to be like over 200 or something to make a person melt."

"Jane, it's a figure of...oh, you know what I mean."

"I know. You're so cute when you talk science to me."

Boston is just over the horizon. It'll take less than 30 minutes to get to Jane's apartment, then on to Maura's.
