The two women enjoy a really nice lunch. They each have a glass of wine. They talk about going back to NY and creating positive memories together. They don't want to go back too soon though. They also talk about going forward in their relationship. Jane isn't ready to give up her apartment yet and Maura isn't quite ready to have Jane move in. They don't really want to spend too much time apart either. Jane will be staying with Maura for at least two weeks. They both think that this will give them both a chance to start solidifying their new relationship. This is a new thing for them both. They don't want to jump in too quickly.
They talk about getting Maura into a doctor to follow up with the broken bones. Jane thinks about getting Maura more mobile. She certainly doesn't mind helping Maura, but she knows how independent the Doctor is. Maura will be able to use a knee scooter. She only has a leg cast below her knee. The cast on her arm is from her hand up to the elbow. So, a knee scooter will work.
She will need help bathing and some of her getting around, but the wheelchair has to go, they both agree on that. Skirts are going to be worn most often. Jane comes up with a few ideas that night work to seal around the casts so that she could possibly shower. She won't be able to shower without help though.
This will change the dynamic of their relationship. They are both nervous about it. They are in love. They have both wanted this for so long. They didn't expect to progress their relationship this quickly.
They decide to just go with the flow. Jane loves Maura with all she has in her. Maura loves Jane so deeply. This is the family that Maura has always wanted. She knows that she has this family regardless of any romantic relationship with Jane.
It's a nice spring day. This would be a good day for a walk, but that will have to wait until after the casts are off.
They arrive back at Maura's Beacon Hill home. Since they've decided that the wheelchair has to go they leave it in the car. Jane unlocks the door before getting Maura out of the car. Jane goes to the passenger side of the car and gets Maura out. She carries her thru the front door. The two ladies are giggling.
As they get thru the doorway they just look at each other nervously. Jane puts Maura on the couch and they still haven't said anything to each other since they realized what just happened. Is this a glimpse at things to come?
Jane closes the door and looks at Maura and breaks the awkward silence, "So, you enjoyed our day so far?"
"Very much so. It's been a great first date. Thank you Jane."
"So, what would you like to do until dinner? Baseball is barely out of spring training. Hockey is still going, but not for long. The Bruins are in the playoffs, but we'll see how long they get to play. We could catch the game on TV."
"Yes, that way you can explain things to me without bothering the people around us. Oh, and we can pause and rewind things."
"Yes, because Patrice Bergeron won't just stop playing and start explaining things."
"Who is she?"
"He. He is French-Canadian. He's a center for the Bruins."
"Ah. Patrice. One of the French pronunciations of Patrick."
Jane laughs, "I'm so glad that you're back to normal."
"What do you mean?"
"Giving me background information on things. I love that about you."
"You do?"
"Yes, I do. It's cute... and educational."
"The game starts at 8 o'clock. They are playing Tampa tonight. Ma's leftover lasagne for dinner? Eat while we watch the game?"
"Can I have some wine with dinner? I haven't been taking my pain medication."
"Yes, Maura, you can have wine."
"Yay", Maura says while clapping excitedly. "I want to be as back to normal as possible."
Jane kisses Maura, "You are adorable."
"If I'm adorable, then you Jane, you are sexy. Your long legs, the natural curl to your hair, the shine in your eyes, your voice. Oh, yes, your voice is very sexy."
Jane is blushing. She doesn't always take compliments well. She does love hearing them from Maura though.
"So, before we start watching the game, let me show you a little about hockey. Where is that dry erase board of yours?"
"In my office. The markers are in the drawer."
Jane comes out of the office with a dry erase board, a handful of markers, and eraser, the cleaner and a rag. She's going to explain some of the game to Maura before the game starts.
She diagrams the ice, every line, every face off circle, and the details that a coach would have on a board when he's drawing up plays. Maura watches Jane draw this up and she just watches her and smiles. She is in love with this woman.
Jane explains each position and the red lines and blue lines, the different face off circles, the trapezoid behind the net. Everything.
She then explains offsides, icing and a few other things. The rest will have to wait until the game is on and the players are in motion. She'll explain the penalties and the other whistles and why things are done a certain way.
Maura is excited to watch a Bruins game with Jane. "You know, why don't we order some pizza and both drink beer tonight. We can have Angela's lasagne tomorrow. I want a real game experience. Is that okay."
"Of course! That sounds like fun. We could do hot dogs and nachos."
"Oh, Jane. Really, hot dogs? Do you know how they make..."
"Maura, I know and I really don't want to hear. Can we just pretend we don't know? You know what, pizza is good. Let's get pizza."
Maura laughs at Jane, "Yes, that sounds good. Pizza, beer, hockey and snuggle on the couch. Perfect end to a perfect day."
