Jane helps Maura get dressed and then gets dressed herself. She carries her out to the car. They head out to a medical supply store and get Maura a knee scooter. It'll take some getting used to, but Maura likes it better than the wheelchair or having Jane carry her around.
They decide to head to the store to get stuff for the game tomorrow night.
Jane goes into the store to get Maura one of the motorized carts. She drives it out to the car. Jane being Jane she approaches the car going "vroom vroom", Maura laughs at Jane. She's always entertained by her sense of humor. Jane helps Maura onto the cart and they head inside. Jane grabs a regular cart and they decide they will browse the grocery store to figure out what they are going to need.
They decide they are going to get stuff for burgers, hot dogs and all the stuff to go with it. They'll get beer, of course and a couple of bottles of wine. There is enough propane for the grill, since Maura doesn't use it often. This is going to be a fun game, all family.
"Ok, we have ground beef, hot dogs, buns for both, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, relish, cheese, mustard, mayo, ketchup, chips. I'll see if Ma will make potato salad. I'll make a dessert. I think that covers it."
"Jane, beer. And ice. Oh, and wine."
"Can't forget that. Can you think of anything else?"
"No, babe, I think you've got it covered. You're so thoughtful to think of everything that everyone may want or need."
"This is going to be fun. I'll grill we'll hang out for a bit, and then we'll all watch the game. I'm really glad that you suggested it. Have I told you today that I love you?"
"Yes, you have, but I will never tire of hearing it. I love you too. Now, let's head home and watch one of my movies."
"Yes, Doctor. Let's get this stuff home and cuddle on the the couch. Do you want to grab lunch or have Ma's leftovers from the other day?"
"Mmmm...Angela's lasagne sounds great."
They get all the groceries and head home. Jane gets Maura in the house and then unloads the car. She gets everything put away and gets lunch ready. Maura feels guilty that she can't help, but she loves seeing Jane so comfortable in her kitchen. Jane catches her smiling.
"What's that smile for?"
"I just love having you here. I love that you are so comfortable in my kitchen, in my house. It makes me happy. Jane, you make me happy."
"Baby, you make me happy too. I'm so glad that I finally told you how I felt. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found you."
"But you did. You're a great Detective and you used your instincts to find me."
Jane comes walks over the the table where Maura is sitting and gives her a kiss. "I love your kisses Jane. Never stop kissing me."
"I promise", Jane gives Maura her trademark smile, the one that makes Maura melt. "Let me get lunch ready so we can watch one of your movies."
Jane heats up the lasagne and fixes a salad for each of them. She grabs the envelope that has Maura's movies in it. She reaches in and pulls out a card. She smiles, "Well, we won't watch this one. We both picked it."
"Oooh...I didn't think we'd find one in common. Which one?"
"To Kill A Mockingbird."
"That is a good one. Pick another and then we'll both add another movie to each envelope."
Jane reaches in a grabs another card. She carefully unfolds it. She smiles when she sees the title.
"Well, Jane, is it another we both picked?"
"No, I didn't pick it, but it's a good one. Not that I've seen it before, but I've wanted to."
"Well, tell me which one did you pick?"
"Breakfast At Tiffany's"
"Audrey Hepburn is wonderful. She was also a great humanitarian. During World War II she worked with the Dutch resistance against the German and Dutch Nazis. She was so charming in her films. I would watch any of them, anytime."
"Well, we'll watch it after lunch and then after the movie I'll get your new wheels put together. That will still give us some time until everyone gets here."
"Thank you for taking care of me. I couldn't ask for a better caretaker. You've been wonderful. I think that you'd take care of me even if we weren't involved in a relationship."
"You're right Maura, I'd take care of you, no matter what, but I'm very happy that you have the same feelings for me that I have for you. I still can't believe that we both finally said something to one another."
Maura finally asks a question that she's been wanting to ask since the hospital in NY. "Jane, I have a question for you. If I hadn't been taken and drugged and near death, would you have ever told me that you loved me?"
Jane looks at Maura, she reaches across the table, taking Maura's hand into hers, "Maur, yes, I would have. It was getting way too hard to keep my feelings to myself. I was planning to tell you, well, this coming weekend. Remember, we originally had plans to go to that day spa you like? I was going to tell you then. I also made plans with Frankie to go to a ballgame that night in case things with you went sideways. I honestly didn't know exactly how I was going to tell you and I sure didn't think you'd feel the same. I wanted an out, just in case."
"Jane, I have been attracted to you for probably 3 years. I wanted to tell you but I didn't know how either. I think the first time my oxytocin levels went crazy for you was when I went to your high school reunion with you. Seeing you in that setting, all I could think about was a 16 year old Jane. I knew that you were the one I wanted to be with."
"Well, it seems that we've hidden these feelings for each other for about the same time. Now, we're out in the open. I'm happier than I expected to be. I know that we've both dated men. Me and Agent Dean and Casey. You and Ian and Jack. I never felt fulfilled or even happy. I tried, but it just didn't feel right. Oh, and I forgot about you and Giovanni."
"Oh, Jane, really, Giovanni? He was a nice physical specimen but that was about it. The others, well, I did try, like you did. The only person I wanted was you."
"So, should we tell Giovanni and we really are LBFFs? Oh, maybe we can get Ma to tell him. It'll break his heart."
"Jane, my love, take me to the couch", Maura says smiling.
The two settle in to watch Breakfast At Tiffany's. Maura resting against Jane. Jane's arm around Maura. Jane kisses the top of Maura's head and then hits play on the remote.
