Chapter 1

October 10, 1979 Chinatown, Manhattan, New York City Mott. St

New York City tended to be a little windy and cold during the month of October. That was no exception this year as well, but in the Namikaze family's apartment it was full of warmth and laughter. The Namikaze's had just recently moved into this new building on Mott St. Inflation and the cost of living has risen the last couple of years, so they had to move to a cheaper apartment building a week ago since money had become tight in the family

The building and the apartment were actually in bad shape. Their apartment they moved into had two bedrooms and a single bath, but the actual size of it was small and the appliances were old. Everything about the building looked worn out and in need of repair.

The family consisted of Minato Namikaze, the father who was a lean but sturdy man who stood at 6'0 with long spiky blonde hair and blue eyes. Minato was a native New Yorker born and raised and he worked in the kitchen at a local Japanese restaurant with his wife. Kushina Uzumaki Namikaze was the wife and mother of this family, and she was a Japanese immigrant that had come to the US years ago to 'chase the American dream' like so many others had before.

Kushina was a beautiful woman that had a half Japanese and half Irish heritage. She was about 5'6 and had a slim figure. She has very unique violet colored eyes but her hair was her most noticeable trait, a long dark red mane that went down her back. Kushina found work shortly after coming to the US, at a restaurant that she was familiar with because of her heritage and that's where she met Minato and they eventually fell in love and got married.

The reason they were having a good time was because the last member of their family was celebrating their 13th birthday. Naruto Namikaze was a kind, but stubborn young man who both parents loved and were proud of. He inherited his fathers physical traits with short blonde hair with blue eyes as well.

Minato and Kushina didn't make a lot of money, but this past year they were able to save enough for their son. Naruto had been wanting a skateboard and some shoes to go with it

because a few months ago Naruto watched a TV special report on the vastly increasing popularity of skateboarders in southern California. Tony Alva was the main focus of the special and Naruto became a big fan of his. The tricks he performed and where he was able to perform them really captured Naruto's attention. After the special was over Naruto wouldn't stop talking about Alva and all the moves he was able to do and it became apparent to his parents that buying him a skateboard and the shoes to go with it would be a great present for him this year.

"Thanks again Mom, Dad, this is great" Naruto told them with gratitude. "You're welcome sweetie, we're glad you like them," Kushina replied with a smile.

"Hey, before you leave dad can we go outside and try them out?" Naruto asked.

"Not tonight Naruto, I've got to leave to go to school soon." Informed Minato as he got up from the dinner table to get the last of his things ready for school.

Night school is something Minato has been going to for the last year now. He wants to be able to provide for his family better and he knows that the best way for him to do that is to get an education. He was enrolled in business hoping to use the experience he's gained from work to open his own restaurant one day.

"Why don't you help your mother out while she gets ready for work and I'll do my best to get home early tomorrow to go with you outside?" Minatto offered him.

"But" Naruto tried to protest to his dad

"Listen Naruto" His mother grabbed his attention "It's not that we don't want you to have fun it's just that we don't want you to be outside without us here in case something happens ok?" She explained to him

"Okay" Naruto answered dejectedly.

Minato finished getting his bag with his books and his jacket. "Alright I'm off I'll be back later, love you" he told his family

"Bye honey, love you too" "love you too Dad" Kushina and Naruto replied at about the same time.

"Ok im gonna go get dressed for work. Can you clean up the table and do the dishes for me?" She asked her son as she got up from the table.

"Yes mam," He said.

Naruto got up and started to throw away the trash and put the dishes into the sink as his mom left for the bedroom to get ready for her shift at the kitchen, but while he was doing this he

thought about what his father said. 'I hate that I can't go outside to play with my skateboard just because they won't be here. I know why they dont want me to, but I'm old enough to handle that. I mean I stay at home by myself now so being outside with other kids shouldn't be a problem.' He had done this routine quite a few times already so washing dishes was always a quick chore for him.

Kushina walked back into the living room/kitchen a little bit later with her work clothes on, almost ready to go. "Naruto" she called him. He turned and looked at her.

"I want you to lock up after I leave ok? I don't want you to answer the door for anybody, understand?" Naruto nodded his head having already heard all of this before.

"The tenant Mrs. Williams told me that If you need anything, just call her." She lives in 1002 on the first floor." Kushina told her son. "Okay I promise" Naruto told her.

Kushina smiled and leaned over to kiss him on the cheek. "Love you Naruto" she told him after she kissed him and walked over to get her coat from the rack.

He smiled back at her and said "I love you too" as Kushina left the apartment.

Now that Naruto was alone with not much else to do he decided to go to his room and look at his presents some more. After making it to his room Naruto sat down on his bed and took off his tennis shoes to put on the new skateboarding shoes he got. His parents were able to get him some 1977 Tony Alva old skool skateboarding shoes. They were dark blue but with white trimming around them. When he put them on, he thought they felt nice, they were snug, but comfortable to wear. Once he got them on he decided that since he wasn't able to go outside that he could still at least stand on his board and practice balancing himself. It took him a while to get used to it, but he felt that he got the balancing part down.

While he was playing around on his board he heard what sounded like laughing from down in the street. Naruto got off the board and walked over to his window to see. Kids were down by the street and it looked like they were laughing and running around playing something. 'Man I really wanna go outside'. Naruto knew why his parents wanted him to wait for them to be home, but he still wanted to be able to have fun and make some friends. With those thoughts in mind he contemplated his choices for a few minutes before coming to a decision. 'I'll just go outside for a little while just until it gets dark.' With his decision made Naruto grabbed his skateboard and jacket, and put them on. When he stepped out into the hall he made sure to lock the door.

Living on the third floor had its advantages, mainly not being so close to the street that you heard a car pass when you were asleep, but the down side was easily the stairs. Naruto wasn't too thrilled when he found out his folks moved them into an apartment on the third floor.

On his way down he bumped into an older man carrying a brown paper bag in his hand by accident. The man wasn't too much to look at and he smelled something fierce too.

"Watch where you're going you little bastard" he growled at Naruto

"Um I'm sorry sir I didn't mean too" he apologized to the older man

"I don't care whether you did it in on purpose or not if you had made me drop my drink I would have whooped your ass Do you understand me?!" He yelled at Naruto.

He thought this old man was crazy, but it was after he said 'his drink' did Naruto realize what that smell was 'Alcohol'. Not wanting to be around him any longer, Naruto nodded his head and ran down the rest of the steps to the front door.

A cold breeze welcomed him when he walked outside the building. The sun was low, but he thought that maybe he had about an hour before sunset. Naruto made his way down the steps and onto the street looking for those kids he saw. Finding them just a little ways up the street he walked over to them.

Naruto was a little nervous honestly, he had just moved and had no friends here and the idea of walking up and introducing himself to strangers was a little daunting, but he Dad told him a saying before 'nothing ventured nothing gained'. His dad had to explain it in more detail to him, but once he did Naruto agreed with him. He wasn't going to make friends just sitting around. He was gonna have to make the effort himself.

The kids were whispering to each other when Naruto made it to them. He didn't pay it too much though before he introduced himself.

"Hey guys Im Naruto Namikaze and I just moved into that building over there last week and I was wondering if I could hang out with you guys?" The kids didn't answer him, they just went back to talking about what they planned to do next.

Confused as to why they did not answer him, Naruto was about to speak and ask why before he was interrupted "We heard you the first time hafu" said a tall boy to his left. Naruto was shocked and pretty angry by what this guy said.

His parents had told him what a hafu meant a few months ago when they passed by an old Japanese man who had muttered it under his breath. Hafu is a ugly racial slur directed towards people who are half Japanese like Naruto and his parents.

Naruto didn't think too much of it before but now that he paid attention all the seven kids in the group had the same typical asian features. They had straight black hair, short for the boys and long for the two girls, and black eyes. 'I guess my hair and eyes gave me away' he thought.

"What the hell is your problem? What does my heritage have to do with being able to play with you guys?" Naruto asked them indignantly.

"We don't want you here hafu now get outta here you bastard!" Another boy raged.

He was incensed that these kids were treating him this way, but he stopped himself before he lashed out. He realized that if he got into a fight while he was already outside after he promised his parents that he would stay inside would only make it worse for him, so Naruto decided to just walk away. He turned around and started to make his way back to the front door of his building all while feeling the glares from the racist kids on his back.

"I'll play with you" said a small meek voice that Naruto almost missed. He stopped and looked over to his left and saw a girl. 'Where did she come from?' The girl was sitting on a block of concrete that was tucked up against the wall next to the steps.

Naruto thought she was a pretty girl with short burgundy colored hair that came down to her neck and amber brown eyes, but her clothes looked kinda ratty in Naruto's opinion, with a dark brown leather jacket that looked too small for her, and a dirty pink hoodie that had faded over time. She also had on blue jeans that had tears in them and her tennis shoes were worn out.

"Uh okay, cool" Naruto told the girl. She stood up and walked over to him as she introduced herself. "I'm Rebecca Lee" she revealed to him, and he responded "I'm Naruto Namikaze" with a smile.

"Um, so do you know where we can go to use this?" Naruto asked her while gesturing to his skateboard. Rebacca pondered his question for a moment.

"About the only place that we could go would be that alley over there" Rebecca told him as she pointed to an alleyway that was down the street and on the other side. 'I guess that'll have to do' he thought to himself

Naruto and Rebecca waited a sec while a car passed down the street before they made their trip. While they were walking Naruto thought it would be good to get to know her some more and hopefully they could become friends. Surprise for him though because she beat him to the punch.

"I haven't seen you around here before, are you new?" The girl asked him. "Yeah I just moved in last week" Naruto told her

Rebecca looked at him incredulously and asked "Why would you move here of all places?". Naruto responded "Well my parents told me that we were going to move to find a place closer to their work so it would be easier on them to travel, but I think it's because money has been tight so we had to move here." He said to her even telling her what he believed was the real reason they had to move.

"Oh that makes sense I guess, money seems to be a problem for everyone around here" the girl told him as her eyes glazed over thinking about something. He was glad they were talking, but he hoped it would be something a little more fun, so he decided to ask her a question.

"So Rebecca, how long have you lived here?" He inquired "Mott Street has always been my home, so thirteen years now" She answered him.

"Really? I just turned 13 today" he revealed to her, "So, I'm older than you huh?" She teased him with a grin.

Naruto pouted for a second then smiled "Well you may be older, but I'm much taller" he quipped back emphasizing his point by measuring their difference in height with his hand. Rebacca laughed and brushed his hand away. "Jerk" she called him in jest. The top of her head only came up to about his chin.

"So uh, why were you sitting in the corner back there instead of playing with the other kids?" He questioned her, Rebecca's smile faded and she looked down

"They didn't want anything to do with me either once they found out that I'm half chinese." She informed him

"I wouldn't worry about what those assholes think, I'm half Japanese actually, at least I think that's right, both my parents are half japanese so I guess that's right" Naruto pondered aloud for her to hear.

Rebecca giggled and replied "Yeah I'm pretty sure that's how it works" she told him.

"What do your parents do? Naruto" Rebeccas asked him

"Well they both work in the kitchen at a restaurant, that's how they meet actually, but now they work different shifts so my dad can go to night school and my mom can watch me during the day" Naruto explained to her.

"Oh so what's your dad going to school for?" She questioned "He's gonna get a business degree so he and my mom can open their own restaurant, it's their dream to open one together." Naruto revealed "That's pretty cool, it sounds like it would be fun" she said.

"What about your parents?" he questioned. Rebecca looked at him a little surprised by the question and then she gazed off down the street with a forlorn look in her eyes.

"Oh well I don't know about my mom, she left when I was little and my dad is..looking for a job right now" She confessed to him.

'Guess I asked something I shouldn't have' he thought "I'm sorry I didn't mean to bring up something you didn't want to talk about" thinking apologizing to her might help.

She responded "It's ok you didn't know", but the smile she gave him didn't reach her eyes. While Naruto was hoping to change the subject he realized they had made it to the alley she told him about.

The alley she talked about was very dingy and nasty, 'but what can you expect from an alley' Naruto thought. He looked over to her and saw that she was looking at him waiting on him to figure out how to start.

"Have you ever been on a skateboard before?" He asked her.

She shook her head "But I've seen them before in a store, I just don't know how to use them." Rebecca informed Naruto

"Well it's not that hard, all you have to do is just lay the board down and put your foot on it and push off with your dominant foot" he explained to her 'at least that's what I saw those guys do'. Even though he had seen it done before he still was not too sure about it.

Naruto put the board down on the ground and placed his left foot on it, but before he pushed off Rebecca asked him "Do you know what you're doing? ''

He looked back at her and said "Well kind of". She laughed saying "This ought to be good"

Naruto put his hand over his heart and gave her a mock hurt look. He asked "What? You don't have any faith in me?".

"Nope," she replied with a grin. "I'm so sure you're gonna fall, that I'll make a bet with you". She challenged him.

"A bet? What kind of bet?" Naruto asked her, a little surprised and intrigued by what she had to say.

"I bet you can't make it down the alley and back without falling" She arrogantly stated.

"Alright then what's the stakes? '' he asked her.

Rebecca didn't think that far ahead, so she decided that just asking for a free favor was good enough. "Well I think a free favor from you will be good" she told him.

Naruto didn't think the idea of a free favor was too bad. "I'm good with that" He told her

"So? What do you want then?" Rebecca asked him, but Naruto did not know what he wanted.

He figured just asking for a favor would work, but honestly he was having fun spending time with Rebecca and he didn't really want anything else besides to hang out more. "Alright well I'll just ask for a favor too, how bout that?" Naruto offered her

"A favor too huh?" She asked him. Rebecca was a little disappointed, she hoped he would ask for something more interesting than that. She thought it over for a second but eventually decided. "Ok deal" she affirmed.

Now that the details of their bet had been settled Naruto readjusted his foot one more time to make sure he had balance. He pushed off with his right and he was on his way. At first when he was rolling down the alleyway he wobbled back and forth a bit, but he was able to stabilize himself and push off again. He seemed to be getting the hang of it by the time he made it to the end of the alley. Naruto turned around and took a glance at Rebecca to see that she looked nervous and annoyed at his success so far.

'This isn't so hard, I got this' he believed so sure of himself, "I wonder what I'm gonna ask for when I win." Naruto decided to taunt her a little for not having faith in his skills.

Naruto was making his way back towards here when he winked at her to tease her some more when his wheel on the skateboard rolled over a small rock. It caused him to lose his balance and stumble, but it was a lost cause when he fell back and landed on his butt. 'Damn that hurt' he thought as he got up while he tried to rub the pain out of his hip. He heard someone trying not to laugh as he brushed the dirt of his pants and looked over at Rebecca. When he did look over she couldn't hold it in any longer.

"HAHAHAHA, so what were you gonna ask me for again? Hahaha'' Rebecca taunted back in between bouts of laughter.

"Ha ha very funny, I could have hurt myself ya know" He sarcastically replied

"Oh but I thought you had it all under control Mr. Hotshot '' she replied with a wink. Naruto smiled and rolled his eyes, accepting that he deserved that.

"That means I win then" Naruto heard her gloat. "Yeah it does, guess that means I owe you a favor now" he conceded defeat to her delight.

She grinned and asked if he wanted to make another bet, but Naruto told her no, thinking she had already won enough from him tonight. He did come up with an idea to get her to stop gloating though.

"Well let's see you try it then" He offered her, then she stopped smiling and she didn't look too sure.

"Thats ok you can still keep doing it you could use the practice" she tried to deflect

"Oh c'mon it's not that hard, I just wasn't paying attention" Naruto tried to reassure her

"I don't know" she answered back, uncertain of trying it out.

"If I can do it I'm sure you can'' Naruto tried to reason with her as he walked over

"Look I'll help you do it" he told her after he placed the skateboard at her feet and held his hand out for her to use as a balance "Trust me" he appealed.

Rebecca looked down at the skateboard one more time and still wasn't sure, but when she looked back at Naruto and saw the smile he had on his face coupled with that warm look in his eyes she couldn't help but want to trust him. She decided to try, so when she put her foot on the board she made sure to lean on Naruto's hand for support. The board almost rolled out from under her, but before she fell Naruto placed his other hand on her back.

Rebecca blushed at the close proximity that she was sharing with him right now, but she wasn't uncomfortable with it. Naruto from the time she has spent with him has been a kind, warm and fun person to be around and she was enjoying spending time with him so far.

"Here, I got you, just find your balance and then push off with your foot" Naruto instructed her

"Alright" She told him. Now that she had her footing she pushed off, but Naruto didn't let go and walked with her as she slowly rolled down the alley making sure she didn't fall. Halfway down the alley Naruto slowly let go of her to let her finish the distance by herself. Rebecca was so focused on keeping her balance and the timing of pushing off with her foot that she didn't notice he had let go.

Naruto watched her go down the alley till the end when she got close enough to place her hand on the wall to help stop. He was happy she made it to the end without any help and from the way she was smiling and how bright her eyes looked right now she seemed to be happy as well.

"Now come back this way without my help" Rebecca heard him say, so she started back, but was a little wobbly at first without his help. It was a little difficult for her at first but she got the hang of it quickly and she finally reached Naruto not too long after.

"See you did it better than me, nothing to worry about" he told her as she rolled up to him and he caught her by the arm when she got close enough. Rebecca grabbed his hand to steady herself and then said to him "Thanks, Naruto".

"Don't mention it" he replied "Wanna go again? Naruto asked her. She answered with a smile and a nod.

Naruto and Rebecca had a lot of fun playing with the skateboard. They took turns rolling around on it for a while before Naruti decided to try to do some of the tricks he saw on the tv special. It didn't work out for him at all, every time he tried he fell, and it was mostly on his butt to the amusement of his friend. They spent a long time out there just playing around, so long they even lost track of time while they did it. Once it got too dark to see did they realize how late it had gotten.

Naruto was upset with himself for staying out too long knowing his parents would kill him if they realized where he was. Rebecxa and him made their way back to the building to go inside for the night.

"Which floor do you live on? I'll walk you to it" Asking her that didn't seem to be what she wanted to hear

"Oh, I'm on the third floor" she answered crestfallen that their time was over and that she had to go back to her apartment.

Naruto was pleased to hear that he lived on the same floor as her "Yeah? Me too" he told her, and if they way her eyes light up were any indication she was too.

They made their way to the stairs and walked up them to their floor. All the while Rebecca was dreading going back home and was desperately thinking of a way to be able to keep the night going with Naruto. They made it to their floor and walked down to a door on the left. 'He's just on the other side of the hall' Rebecca realized, genuinely happy that her friend was close by.

"Well this is me, it was nice being able to hangout together. Do you want to do it again tomorrow?" Naruto inquired. Rebecca was sad that it was over, but was about to tell him that they could spend time together tomorrow when her stomach growled.

Embarrassed by the sound she put a hand on her stomach to try to mask the noise and sheepishly looked away while blushing.

Naruto chucked "Sounds like it's time for you and your dad to eat dinner" he said.

'That's it!' She thought in realization. She could ask for him to make her something to eat. "Actually I was thinking that I want to cash in my favor now" she revealed to him to his surprise.

"Really? Already? You don't want to save it for something else?" Naruto wondered.

"Yeah I want you to make me something to eat" she asked with hesitation hoping he would say yes.

Naruto wasn't too sure about this on the one hand he didn't see a problem with it, but he doubted his parents would agree. He didn't think she was a bad person and he didn't believe she would try anything 'I mean she's my age and half my size'.

"Ok you can come over. I'll make you something" he couldn't help but grin when he told her because her face lit up with probably the biggest smile she had made all night. "But wait, what about your dad?" He asked her, "He's probably worried about where you are," Naruto said.

Rebecca looked back at her door and said with a bitter tone "No he's not worried at all'' she looked back at Naruto "I've stayed out longer than this before and he hasn't said anything to me about it, so It's ok" she had a grin on her face, but it didn't reach her eyes either and Naruto saw that.

'I wonder what's wrong? What kind of dad doesn't worry about his daughter when she's not at home?'. Knowing asking questions would probably get him nowhere, Naruto decided to let it go for now and open the door.

"Well it's not much, but it's home" Naruto defended as they walked into his living room/kitchen. The kids walked in and put their jackets on a hook that was drilled into the wall next to the door.

"Ok well here's the thing I don't actually know how to cook regular food, but I can find something simple to eat." He informed her as he scratched the back of his neck a little embarrassed that was all he could offer.

Rebecca smiled "That's fine with me" she reassured him.

"Ok then. Well, go ahead and find a seat at the table and I'll find us something" he told her as he made his way to the fridge to look inside.

Once she sat down she looked around and inspected his place comparing it to her own. 'Well it's not great, but it's definitely better than my place, that's for sure' she thought to herself. In Rebecca's apartment the only real furniture they had was a recycling chair her dad pretty much lived in, a small table he used to place his alcohol and food on, what little of it they did manage to get, the refrigerator where he kept those things, and finally an old tv.

The only thing she had in her room was an old box spring and mattress. She kept her clothes inside a dresser that was her mother before she left. She was a bit jealous of him with what he had. A nice home and two parents that loved him she assumed, but she was happy to be here with her new friend. She perked up and gave him her attention when he started talking again.

"Uh well I can make hot dogs or use this deli meat to make a sandwich?" Naruto asked her as he held up a pack of hot dogs in one hand and a bag of turkey in the other.

"Umm maybe something else I kinda want something warm and I ate hot dogs last night." She told him reluctantly not wanting to come across bossy or ungrateful.

"No, that's fine, I'm sure I can find something like that in the cabinets," Naruto assured her. She nodded at him and went back to looking around.

He made it to the cabinets and started rummaging through them. 'Tomato soup? Don't know how to make it. Chicken noodle? Same problem. I'm definitely not gonna do vegetables. The only thing left is these packages of Instant Ramen' Naruto grabbed as he thought about why they had these. 'Mom and her weird tastes' he didn't much care for ramen, but his mom loved it even if it was instant. He decided that this was gonna be it, hoping Rebecca liked it.

"Ok I think I've found it. '' Naruto turned around and told her, and she looked at him eagerly waiting for his suggestion.

"Have you ever eaten Ramen before?" He inquired

"I've heard about it, but haven't tried it,'' she answered.

"Well it's a Japanese dish, but this is instant ramen. All I have to do is boil some water and then let this sit in there for a few minutes and mix some seasoning with it." He explained all of it to her, but at this point she didn't care as long as she could eat and spend time here away from home she would be happy.

"That sounds great" she said

"Chicken or beef" he asked her

"Chicken," she answered.

Now knowing what they were gonna eat Naruto set about making their food for the night. Cooking instant ramen was a pretty easy thing to do, his mom made sure he at least knew that in case he needed to make something if she didn't have time before work to make dinner for him. It didn't take long and he was already done and making his way to the table with two bowls for themselves.

He gave Rebecca her's and placed his bowl down in front of himself and they began eating.

"This is really good" she said between mouthfuls not caring at all about eating and talking at the same time.

'She must have been really hungry' Naruto pondered, but the truth was Rebecca had not eaten anything since the day before yesterday, so to her this ramen was a gourmet meal for all she cared and she loved it.

"Yeah my mom really likes it, but I'm kinda iffy about it" Naruto told her

"Well if you don't want the rest I'll take it" she instructed him with her hand out. He laughed and handed over his bowl to her amused by how she couldn't seem to get enough of it.

He sat there and watched her scarf down the rest of his ramen with reckless abandon. He was afraid she might choke at the rate she was eating, but it seemed to be ok. 'A Little girl like her, where does she put it all? Naruto wondered.

While she was eating all the food she had; her mouth was starting to make her cheeks look like she was a chipmunk and to Naruto's difficulty he was trying not to laugh. Too bad for him she heard him trying to stifle his laughs and called him out on it.

"What are you laughing about?" Naruto barely heard her say with her mouth full, but that was what it took for him to start chuckling out loud.

She swallowed her food and indignantly exclaimed "Don't laugh I was really hungry".

He waved his hand at her to calm her down then he said "I'm sorry I didn't mean to laugh at you I just thought with the way your cheeks were puffed up that you look like a chipmunk".

She huffed at him and blushed a little at the comment, but what he said next made her blush turn much brighter. "Please don't be upset, really I thought you looked cute" Naruto told her

Rebecca's eyes widened and her blush turned atomic. She had never been told she looked cute before and she didn't know how to handle it, but she did like it, so she just looked down at her lap. Naruto realized what he said and blushed himself mainly outta embarrassment.

'I can't believe I just said a girl was cute and she didn't look like she liked it. I need to change the subject'. He could not think of much so he went with the first thing that came to mind.

"Hey do you wanna watch tv?" Naruto questioned her. Rebecca's head shot up relieved for a change of subject and she replied "Yes please".

They both got up and headed to the living room to turn on the tv not saying anything to each other still embarrassed by what happened.

Rebecca sat down on their couch and Naruto was going to sit on the floor in front of it, but she had a different idea. "Why are you sitting down there? It's your house, sit on the couch." She instructed him, he didn't mind sitting on the couch. It was just after what he said he thought she might be uncomfortable if he sat next to her, so he decided to sit on the floor, but if she was ok with him there then he wasn't going to complain.

Naruto went over to the TV and turned it on. He found a channel that was showing MASH. "Is this good?" He asked her wanting to know if she liked this show.

"Yeah I love MASH" Rebecca told him. Happy that he found something she liked, Naruto walked over to the couch and sat down next to her.

The pair were pretty tense at first, but after watching the show and laughing for a little bit at what was happening they loosened up and relaxed. They finished watching MASH and decided to keep watching tv. They watched shows like Happy Days, Charlie's Angels, Three's Company, and The Jeffersons well into the night, laughing and enjoying their time together. They stayed up so late that they started to get tired, but didn't pay much attention to it and before they knew it they had fallen asleep on the couch together.

A loud sound jolted Naruto awake, so he looked around to find out what was making the noise, but could not find anything. Turning towards the TV he saw the Dukes of Hazzard were on and there was a car chase happening. He realized then it wasn't anything serious just the TV being too loud. A soft sleepy murmur to his right grabbed his attention, and he looked over to see Rebecca had fallen asleep as well and was resting her head on his shoulder.

Naruto smiled fondly at her thinking about this past evening they spent together. 'I haven't had that much fun in a while and I don't think she had either'. After that he frowned remembering how she had acted earlier when she mentioned she didn't really have any friends and when he mentioned her going home to her dad. 'I guess she's been through alot, but I want that to change. I've never really had any close friends either, but I think it'll be different with her. He thought about how glad she was when she was able to use the skateboard without falling or how happy she was when he said that she could come over and finally how much she smiled when they were laughing and having a good time watching TV.

'I think we're gonna be great friends' he thought while fondly looking at her sleeping face.

The credits starting to roll for the show caused Naruto to wonder what time it was. He looked over to his family's wall clock to see and was startled to realize what time it was. '1:30! Damn Dad's gonna be home any second.' He looked back to Rebecca in a panic 'I've gotta get her outta here. If Mom and Dad find out I left the apartment and brought over a strange girl there gonna shit a brick!'

Naruto placed his hand on Rebecca's shoulder and started to gently shake her to wake her up.

"Rebecca, Rebecca wake up, it's time to go home" Naruto said to her to get her up. Rebecca stirred from his attempts and finally sat up on the couch while rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"What? What happened? Did we fall asleep?" She seemed very groggy when asking him that.

"Yeah we did." He answered her quickly, so he could get to the point.

The sound of heavy footsteps coming up the stairs outside the apartment alerted Naruto to the fact that they were too late.

"Shit you gotta hide" he quickly whispered to her just as they heard someone stop outside the door. Naruto grabbed her hand and ran down the hallway with Rebecca in tow. He turned to look back at the door, but only saw Rebecca's frightened face instead.

'The only place that might work is my closet. I'll just have to wait till Dad goes to sleep then sneak her out' He thought in a hurry. Naruto pulled her into his room and shut the door before he heard his front door open.

"Quick hide in my closet" Naruto instructed her

"But for how long?" Rebecca asked him concerned for how long she would have to stay there.

"Just for a little bit" Naruto tried to explain to her as he coaxed her into his closet. The boy took off his shirt and pants to make it look like he had been asleep in his room in case his Dad came in to check on him. He climbed in and closed his eyes as he became still pretending to be asleep.

His Dad's footsteps came down the hallway causing him to become even more nervous. When he heard his door open his heart started to pound a little harder and faster in his chest. His Dad walked over to his bed and sat down on the side of it and faced Naruto.

"Hey kiddo are you awake?" Minato asked him softly, so Naruto, trying to fool his dad, pretended to be groggy and slowly opened his eyes.

"Uh oh hey Dad did you finally make it in?" he asked his father, sounding like he was half asleep.

"Yeah, just got in. Wanted to let you know before I went to bed" Minato answered his son. Relieved to be home even if it was just for a little while.

"Goodnight Dad" Naruto said to him and smiled thinking he had fooled his old man. Minato smiled,

"Goodnight kiddo" his father replied back to him, but the reason he was smiling was because he knew what Naruto was up to and decided now was the perfect moment to call him out on it.

"But just one more thing before I go," He said to Naruto.

"Hmm" he responded to his Dad.

"Who's the person standing in your closet?" Minato questioned his son.

Naruto's eyes snapped open and he looked at his Dad in shock. He doesn't know what to say, surprised his dad figured it all out. At the same time a small gasp was heard coming from his closet that his father clearly heard. "I know you there, come out now." Minato ordered the unknown individual in his son's closet.

The closet opened up and Rebecca stepped out giving Minato his first good look at her. She was shy and nervous meeting Naruto's dad like this "Hi I'm Rebecca '' she meekly introduced herself.

"A girl? You had a girl over by yourself?" He turned back to his child and said. He was shocked to say the least he realized Naruto had disobeyed them and went outside but he didn't think his son was already at that stage in his young life.

"Look, listen Dad I can explain" Naruto said to his Dad as he sat up in his bed.

"Oh I think I can figure it out for myself what was happening here" Minato told him while he indicated with his head at the fact that Naruto was only wearing boxers. The two teens blushed hard understanding his implication.

"NO that's not what was going on" Naruto exclaimed, afraid that his Dad was getting the wrong idea. Rebecca looked down at her feet, unable to look Naruto or his Father in the eye. Minato already had a rough idea of what had happened, but decided to act otherwise to see if his son would tell him the truth.

Minato crossed his arms and cocked his eyebrow when he asked "Oh? So what happened then?".

Naruto realized the jig was up and decided to come clean, so he told his Dad the truth. He told him about seeing the kids from his room and deciding to leave. He told him about the kids calling him a hafu and how they threatened him to leave. Meeting Rebecca and playing with his skateboard and him losing their bet. Rebecca asking him to make her something to eat and finally when they fell asleep watching TV.

Minato didn't say anything throughout Naruto's explanation showing Naruto he had his full attention. His father did look upset and frowned when he heard about what those kids called him, but decided to wait for his son to finish before he commented.

Rebecca stood by her friend's bed while he explained hoping that his dad would understand what happened. She hoped Naruto would not get into trouble for what she believed was mostly her fault. She waited anxiously while Naruto finished afraid that the older man would be mad at them for what they did.

After Naruto finished Minato sighed and raised his hand to his head to massage his temple, frustrated by his son's story. Minato looked up at his son and told him.

"Naruto, we'll talk later about your punishment for disobeying us. I'm not mad, just disappointed in you, but first I want you to get dressed while I talk to your friend alright?".

Naruto hung his head upset at himself for making his Dad disappointed. He stood up from his bed and moved around to grab his clothes that he threw around his room when he tried to hurry into bed. Minato looked over to Rebecca, who was watching him since he said that he wanted to talk to her, and smiled while asking.

"Hey Rebecca, why don't we go wait in the living room while Naruto gets dressed ok?" Rebecca didn't look too sure and looked back over to Naruto to see him nodding his head towards her. She decided to listen to the adult and walk with him to their living room to wait. They were walking down the hall back to the living room when Minato spoke up again to talk to her.

"I'm sure you know by now, but I'm Naruto's father you can call me Mr. Namikaze" he told her warmly. Rebecca was still worried about what would happen to her new friend, but decided to introduce herself anyway.

"Hi Mr. Namikaze. Naruto didn't mention my full name, but I'm Rebecca Lee and I live across the hall, but I wanted to say I'm sorry about what happened. I shouldn't have asked Naruto to do that for me." Rebecca apologized to the older man hoping that taking the blame would help Naruto from getting a harsher punishment.

Minato smiled at her realizing what she was doing. He was glad and impressed that Naruto was able to make such a good friend in such a short amount of time since moving here.

"Its alright Rebecca I'm not really mad about what happened beside the fact that Naruto disobeyed me and his mother" Minato assured her

"Besides, Naruto's punishment isn't going to be anything too bad, just something that'll make him think twice about disobeying us again, but don't tell him that ok?" He then winked at her trying to be friendly.

Rebecca was relieved to hear that. She had hoped Naruto wouldn't get into too much trouble and it seemed like his dad was a cool guy. Soon after their short talk Naruto walked into the room fully clothed again.

"Hey Dad? How did you figure out that Becca was here?" Naruto asked his dad when he walked into the room. He had wondered about that while he was putting his clothes on, but drew a blank as to how he did it.

Minato grinned realizing Naruto's little slip up and decided to tease him a little more by saying "Oh? She's Becca now is she?"

Naruto and Rebecca both blushed at the older man's teasing. One because he was mortified that his dad kept embarrassing him in front of his friend and the other because of the nickname Naruto gave her, but she didn't dislike it.

Minato chuckled at their expense and decided to give them a break. "Well anyway it seems like in your rush to get to your room you forgot a few things" He pointed to the TV, Rebecca's jacket on the rack, and finally the two dirty bowls left on the table.

"Oh" The young man said in embarrassment while scratching the back of his neck. Rebecca giggled at Naruto's reaction, finding his response funny.

"Hey I was in a rush ya know" Naruto hopelessly tried to explain to them.

"Well why don't you walk Rebecca back to her place while I clean up your little mess here? '' Minato said, offering his son a way out of his embarrassing little moment.

Naruto nodded his head and walked over to the coat rack with Rebecca and grabbed their jackets. He and Rebecca were walking out the door when Minato had turned back to the kids because he almost forgot to tell Rebecca something.

"Hey Rebecca I'm sorry I almost forgot, but if you want to come over anytime you're more than welcome to ok?" Minato informed the girl hoping that she would come over to spend time with Naruto again soon.

The two kids smiled ecstatic to know that they could hang out now as much as they wanted.

"Thank you Mr. Namikaze I promise to come back over soon" she affirmed to the Namikaze patriarch.The two kids turned and walked out the door headed to her apartment.

"Well I guess this is goodbye for now" Naruto said to her when they made it to her door. "Yeah I guess so" Rebecca replied to him dejected that their time was over. The atmosphere was a little awkward and Naruto thought that maybe it had something to do with him giving her a nickname so he decided to address that right now.

"I uh didn't mean to call you Becca it just kinda slipped out ya know?" Naruto tried to explain hoping she wasn't upset that he had already given her a nickname she may not have liked.

The girl gave him a genuine smile and told him "No it's ok, I actually kinda liked it".

'Wow she's really cute when she smiles like that' he thought when he saw that smile. The boy was blushing again and had his own little goofy smile on his face after she said that.

"Ok goodnight then Becca I'll talk to you tomorrow" Naruto said to her as she opened her door and walked in and before she shut the door she turned around and replied with a soft smile.

"Goodnight Naruto"

The door to Naruto's apartment shut just shortly after he made it back inside. He looked over to his father who was leaning on the kitchen sink with a smile waiting on him to return. Naruto put his jacket up and walked over to him to hear what he had to say.

"I like her, she seemed like a nice girl" Minato informed him revealing to his son what his impression of the girl was.

"Yeah she's great" his son replied with a truly happy smile, one he hasn't seen in a while. Naruto was glad he went out tonight even if it meant breaking a promise he made to his parents it was worth it in his opinion.

"I'm really happy for you kiddo, but that doesn't mean you're gonna get out of this thought" Minato reminded his son. Naruto's smile faded and was replaced with a look of worry.

"Uh ok so what's it gonna be then?'' Naruto nervously asked his Dad, ready to just get it over with. 'I mean how bad can it be, probably some chores or no TV for a while.' The boy thought in ignorance.

Minato smiled at his son and it was almost sinister like with the way he looked.

"Well its actually something me and your mother have been meaning to talk to you about for a little bit now, but we never seemed to figure out when the best time would be, but now that your thirteen and you have a new friend, a 'girl' friend I might add, we are gonna give you the Sex Talk Naruto." Minato finally revealed it to him.

The boy was stunned. He could not even form words. He just stared at his father with his mouth hanging open. He was not ready for this.

Minato leaned towards him and placed his hand on Naruto's shoulder and said to him "Don't worry Naruto, we don't have to do it now. We'll wait till later after I get off work and before your mother heads back in for her shift so we can have this discussion together. Sounds wonderful right?" He finished with a rhetorical question.

Minato smiled knowing he got his son good with this one. He patted his shoulder and told him that he was going to bed. Naruto was still standing there in disbelief after he left.

Naruto gained some semblance of himself and walked down the hall to his room. He entered his room, took off his shirt and pants and threw himself on his bed, the shock finally wearing off.

He grabbed his head and buried it into the pillow; realization of what was to come finally setting in. The despair of his situation hitting him like a truck. He only had one more coherent thought before drifting asleep.
