To appease all three Winchesters' curiosity, Sam had gone back through John's journal to find any entry that would correspond to dates about a year before Annie was found at the fire station. He knew his father kept very detailed notes and surely there would be something to indicate his relationship that resulted in a child. It didn't take him long to come across an entry that he had glanced over many times before. It was a witch hunt with one survivor: Janice Marks. At the very bottom of the page there was a little star with the date, February 11, 2000. Sam surmised that must have been when John left Annie. There was nothing about what ended up happening to Janice though.

Both brothers were understandably upset at another one of their father's lies. The only explanation that they could think of as to why John would give their sister up, is not wanting to raise another child in the hunting life. He had probably hoped that this would be giving her another chance at a happy normal life. Unfortunately, it hadn't worked out like that.

It took some time for the brothers to remember the details of that particular hunt. Sam had been forced to stay back at the motel, while Dean went with their father. The younger Winchester brother had been benched from the hunt becuase he had been an ornery fifteen year old and given his father too much lip. He had spent the weekend moping around and wishing his life was different.

Dean hadn't faired much better. His father had been in one hell of a mood after dealing with his younger son. Plus, John Winchester hated witches with a burning passion.

The trio had stayed in that small town a week longer than necessary. At the time, John had told his boys that it was because he wanted to make sure there was nothing else supernatural plaguing the small town. Sam and Dean had enjoyed the break, thanks to it being summer. John had gone off every night to "check things out" and left the boys to their own devices. Dean had some suspicion that his father was going off to get laid, but never did he think that it would result in a child.

"Do you remember my mom?" Annie asked her eldest brother. The possibliity of new information was so close she could taste it. She was reveling in finally learning about her parents. Though she wished they were alive to tell her themself.

"Yeah. But not too much. We had been on hunt after hunt at the time and I was exhausted and they were all running together a bit." Dean saw Annie's face fall and he tried to think hard about his brief interaction with the girls mother. "Uh, she was pretty. Put up one hell of a fight."

"Can you tell me about that hunt?"

Dean looked over at Sam, and then he shrugged, figuring it wouldn't be too much information for his sister. "A group of witches were kidnapping young women, and uh, harvesting their heart to make themselves younger- immortality and shit. They did it every twenty years or so apparently." Dean stopped to think for a moment. "Your mom was the last one alive. We got to her right before they started the last ceremony. Put a bullet in every last one of 'em."

"Wow." The younger girl sat in awe. "Then what?"

"We took her to the hospital and I never saw her again." Dean answered. "Guess dad did though," he mumbled.

"Does it say what happed to her? Why your dad had me and dropped me off?"

Sam shook his head sadly. "No, but I'll keep looking," he promised.

Tears brimmed Annie's eyes, as she tried to imagine what could have happened to her mother. The car was quiet now. The only sound was Sam typing on his keyboard, looking for more information about their sister with his exemplary research skills.

The three siblings had been on the road for about two hours, heading back to the bunker, when Sam found what he was looking for.

"I found your birth certificate." Sam said smiling triumphantly.

Annie unbuckled and jumped up to look over her brother's shoulder. "Really? What's it say, anything new?"

"Sit back and buckle up, Annie." Dean grunted.

She turned to her other brother indignant. This was her birth certificate and she wanted to see it! "I was just-"

"Sit back and then he'll answer you." Dean's voice was stern and unwavering, leaving no room for arguments.

"Fine." She crossed her arms and pouted, but quickly dropped her arms and the pout at the look Dean was giving her through the rear view mirror. He wanted to push for a 'yes sir' but was trying to wait until they got to the bunker to lay down some rules. "What's it say?"

Sam waited until his sister had followed Dean's directions before answering her. "Milwaukee General Hospital celebrates the birth of Julianna Blair Marks. Six pounds, eight ounces. Twenty inches long. Mother is listed as Janice S. Marks. Father is unlisted. Birth date is October 31, 1999."

She had a lot to process with that. First, that her middle name was Blair. Second, that she had celebrated the wrong birthday her whole life.

Annie bit her lip. "Can we change it?"

Sam looked at her confused. "Change what?"

She eyed the pair hesitantly. "Uh, change my last name? To you know, Winchester..."

"It doesn't really matter." Dean responded. "We know who ya' are."

Annie opened her mouth to respond but stopped herself. They wouldn't understand. Sam gave his little sister a knowing look and elbowed his brother, gesturing towards the back seat.

Dean looked at him, oblivious to what Sam was trying to say. The younger Winchester brother shook his head, irritated.

"Annie, I can easily hack into this and change your last name to Winchester and list dad as your father." He said with a smile.

She didn't so much as glance at her brothers, continuing to stare out of the window despondently, doing everything in her power to not cry. They wouldn't understand. "It's not a big deal. Dean's right. Don't worry about it."

Sam shook his head, even if his sister wasn't looking to see it. "No. Everything will be a lot easier if we go ahead and make your last name Winchester. That way we can always prove you are ours. Annie Winchester has a nice ring to it." He grinned.

Annie gave him a small smile and then went back to looking out the window, thinking about how quickly her life had changed. Julianna Blair Winchester, was really cute and she wondered if the boys would be okay with her changing her first name? After all, she hadn't chosen to be called Annie. It had just been a joke that the other kids made up, that unfortunately stuck.

She could be Julianna. Or she could go by Blair. Or JA. or JB. Or Julie. The possibilities were endless, and she soon found herself drifting off to the thoughts of being called something else.

Once Sam heard her breathing even out, he slapped the back of Deans head as hard as he was willing to, considering his brother was driving.

"Hey!" Dean grunted.

"Shut up, dude. She's asleep." Sam hissed.

Dean lowered his voice, but continued to scowl at his little brother. "Then why the fuck did you hit me?"

"Because you're oblivious! Having our last name is important to her. She's never gotten to use her real last name."

"O-kay?" Dean still wasn't understanding the big deal. "Sorry, I guess."

"Dean, man," Sam said exasperated. "If we're going to do this, you're going to have to be more in tune with her feelings. You can't just say whatever. We have to make sure that she feels wanted."

Dean grimaced at the thought of being more touchy-feely. "Of course we want her? What does our last name have to do with that?"

Sam shook his head, more irritated than he was before. His brother could be so dense sometimes. "Obviously it's something you need to figure out yourself, Dean." He said tersely, before taking a deep breath. "We need to stop at the mall before we get back to the bunker so we can get her some things."

"Great," mumbled Dean.

Annie slept soundly for the next three hours, not even stirring when they stopped for gas and a bathroom break. She finally woke up as they pulled into the parking lot of the mall.

"Morning, sunshine." Sam said with a grin. "Woke up just in time."

"Where are we?" She asked through a yawn.

Dean grumbled. "The friggin' mall."

"So, I was thinking, three or four pairs of jeans, fifteen to twenty t-shirts, and a few nicer shirts if you'd like. And then some shorts and tank tops to work out in, and some tennis shoes. You'll need some boots and maybe a pair of sneakers or something. And then of course some underthings and pajamas." Sam listed out, from the small piece of paper that he had written out while Annie was asleep.

Her mouth was wide open at all the things that he listed. "That all?" She tried to sound sarcastic but it came out more like awe.

Sam rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, I mean you can get some more things as time goes on and you need or want it?"

She shook her head. "That's way too much. That'll be like a ton of money." Glancing at her oldest brother nervously, she waited with baited breath for Dean to agree with her.

But Dean was in full agreement with his younger brother, and even had his own list of things he was going to get for her while they were doing that. "You don't worry about money. You let us do that."

"But how do you guys make money? Do you even have real jobs?"

Sam and Dean both smirked at that. "Don't worry about it, Julianna Winchester." Sam responded. "Now come on, or I'll think you don't want any clothes."

He was kidding with her, but she jumped up and out of the car none the less, a huge smile on her face at the use of her new name.

Excitement quickly waned into exhaustion, as they went from store to store. Dean had bailed on them an hour prior, taking most of her bags with him to the car. Sam glanced down at his list as he mentally scratched things off. "All we need now is shoes and then we need to hit the Walmart."

"Not that I'm not so, so, thankful for all the stuff but is there anyway we can wait?" She didn't want to come off as ungrateful but she was overwhelmed with all the things she had already gotten. She had never even had close to this much stuff before.

Sam put a hand on the back of her head and pulled her into a side hug. "No can do, kiddo. You need bathroom things, and stuff like that."

"Okay." She said, leaning into him, trying to hype herself back up. After all, no one had ever spent this much time and money on her before, and she couldn't pretend that she wasn't enjoying that part of it. "Where's Dean again?"

"He had to a few errands he needed to run. He'll meet us after shoes, because we all need to go to Walmart for groceries anyway."

A half hour of looking through shoes, Annie felt like she had gotten all she needed. She was very happy about her new white and pink sneakers, two pairs of converse, one black pair and one pair dark green and a giant pack of multi colored socks. Her most prized purchase though were her black lace up combat boots.

"Why don't you get a pair of flip flops or crocs?" Sam suggested, gesturing to the rows of sandal like shoes.

"Why?"

"Just to wear around the bunker or just for comfort." He said already scanning the row of slip on shoes for his sister's size.

As she was looking at all the choices she looked to Sam, feeling helpless. Hadn't they already gotten enough? The older Winchester glanced down to Annie and recognized how overwhelmed she was. Jess used to get the same expression when she was overstimulated like this. So, he made the quick decision to grab a pair of pink crocs and led her to the checkout.

She expelled a breath of relief, thankful for Sam taking control like that. They finished their purchase and walked out of the now crowded shoe store.

Dean met the pair outside with a huge grin on his face and a few bags of his own. "Wait till you see what I got ya'."

The overwhelmed feeling she had just barely gotten rid of started to rise again, but she was able to push it down with the greater feeling of thankfulness. "You didn't have to." She said sheepishly.

"Hell yeah, I did. Check it." He pulled out a black leather jacket that looked similar to the one he himself was wearing.

"Badass!" She laughed, reaching out for it to put it on. It fit great and she assumed Sam must have sent him her measurements while they were trying on clothes earlier. "I love it, thanks Dean."

"That's not all." He said, grinning even bigger, before pulling out a small box from a different bag. He handed her the box and her mouth dropped open.

It was a phone. It was a smart phone. Her own phone. "For me?"

"Nah, for my other little sister," Dean laughed. "Yeah, for you."

The phone just happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back as tears flooded her eyes and fell down her face.

Dean looked to Sam alarmed, trying to figure out what he had done wrong. But Sam just gestured towards her and Dean took the hint, and pulled Annie to him. She hugged him tight and continued to cry into his chest. Dean rubbed his hand up and down her back and tried to shush her. "I'm sorry, kid."

Annie squeezed tighter and choked out through her tears, "Thank you so much, Sam and Dean. Thank you so much."

Then the light clicked for Dean and he understood why she was crying, and that made him upset as well. All she had been through, fell heavily on him. He and Sam hadn't had the best upbringing but at least they had each other. She had been alone not knowing anything about her family and that broke his heart.

He bent down and pressed a kiss on the top of her head. "You're welcome. I got you, sweetheart."

Walmart was quick. Sam got all the groceries they needed, with a few suggestions from Annie on the foods she liked to eat. And Dean took her to the toiletries and waited for her uncomfortaboly at the end of the aisle. Sam had already instructed her to get whatever she needed, and she was glad Dean hadn't followed her down every aisle.

Annie grabbed flower scented shampoo and conditioner and other bathroom necessities before going to get deodorant and a toothbrush. She remembered to get a hair brush as well, picking out a pretty wooden bamboo one that had said it was eco friendly. Whatever that meant. She also got some hair scrunchies and a few clips.

The siblings met back up at the checkout and were out of the store in record time. And that was perfect according to Dean and Annie. Sam didn't mind it so much, but he had to admit he was exhausted from their day of shopping as well. Plus, they still had an hour more before they would make it back home.

When they got back in the car, they decided that fast food would be the best option, as long as everyone was careful about spilling stuff in Baby. Annie wasn't sure if she had ever eaten so carefully before.

Thankfully, the last hour went by faster than the rest of the trip, evryone enjoying the soft sounds of rain and Led Zeppelin.

Once they drove into Lebanon, Sam figured he should explain the bunker a bit. "The bunker isn't on any map and it's impossible for supernatural creatures to get through, unless we summon them in or they've been there before because it's warded."

"So, it's safe?" She asked, not fully sure what 'warded' meant.

"Incredibly." Dean confimred.

"It used to be the headquarters for an organization called the Men of Letters. Our grandfather Henry Winchester was a member."

"Cool guy." Dean said reminiscing.

"He's still alive?"

Dean's smile fell a bit. "Uh, no. He died when dad was a kid.. sort of."

"Sort of? If he died when John was a child then how did you meet him?"

"Well... he time traveled from 1958 to this year, following a demon and it's kind of a long story. Unfortunatley, he didn't make it back to his year."

"Oh." Annie said sadly. It seemed like everyone in her family was dead. "That sucks."

"Yeah." Sam responded before moving on. "But that's where we live now. It has a lot of rooms, endless resources, a medical wing, and a kitchen. It's a great homebase."

"That's really cool." She said smiling.

"It's friggin' awesome." Dean agreed. "But it can also be dangerous so until we give you the tour, don't go anywhere in there by yourself. Got it?"

She wanted to argue that she wasn't a baby, but figured it wasn't the time. Besides, she didn't really want to get into anything dangerous. "Gotcha."

Once they started to pulling into the start of the garage, Annie watched him make the turns with practiced ease, amazed he could remember where to go. "This is like a maze."

"It pretty much is," Dean laughed.

Annie was shocked once again, when they finally pulled into the actual garage part and there were tons of shiny old looking cars and motorcycles. "Woah."

Dean saw the look on her face, and thought that it looked pretty similar to the one he had on his face when he first saw it. "I'll take you around and show them to you tomorrow, if you'd like?"

Her grin got wider. "Hell yeah! I love cars."

"Oh? Great. That means I'll have someone else to work on Baby with, Sam is shit help." Dean said getting out the car, ignoring Sam's bitch face.

"Shut up, Dean!"

Annie just giggled enjoying their banter. She got out and grabbed as many bags as she could, both her brothers doing the same.

"Come on kid, before Sam's panties get more in a twist."

Sam huffed and mumbled "Jerk," under his breath.

Both brothers watched as her eyes got wide as soon as they stepped on the stairs looking out over the war room. "You live here?"

"Yep. And you do too," Sam said with a smile, guiding her down the stairs into the hallway leading to the bedrooms. "I'll give you the grand tour tomorrow, after we've all had some much needed rest. This is Dean's room. That one down there is mine. You can pick any of these, they all look the same on the inside. We can personalize your room whenever you're ready; they are pretty plain."

"No, uh, this is perfect." She said, dropping all of her stuff on the floor by her dresser. She was delighted to even have a room of her own.

"Don't be silly." Sam scoffed. "The girl's bathroom is across the hall here. Grab your pajamas and toiletries and all, take a shower and then you should probably head to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a long day as well. If you need anything, me and Dean will be in the library for a bit before heading to bed."

"Thank you." She said sincerely.

He reached over and pulled her into a hug before kissing her forehead. "You're welcome."

Once Sam left, she stared around the room for a few minutes trying to take it all in. She grabbed the bag full of her toiletries and her new pink towel, as well as her new pajamas.

Annie walked across the hall to the bathroom Sam had pointed out. It was bigger than she thought it was going to be, having enough room for at least four people to shower at one time. She set all of her stuff on the large vanity and began pulling things out of her Walmart bag.

After it was all set up, she turned the water on as hot as it would go, and began to strip off her old clothes. They weren't even worth washing, she decided, throwing them into the trash bin under the sink.

The room had become steamy, and Annie was very excited to use all of her new products. As she was washing her hair and body, she began to imagine that she was washing her old self off. Annie W was swirling down the drain and being replaced with Julianna Winchester. A girl with a family.

She stayed in the hot stream until her fingers and toes became pruny. Annie carefully brushed her wet hair before putting on her cute new pajamas. She wiped the fog of the mirror and couldn't help but smile at herself. She felt truly clean for the first time in months and she was donning brand new pajamas that no one had ever worn before her.

When she opened the door, the cool air of the hallway slapped her in the face, sending goose bumps all over her body. She quickly padded over to her new room and shut the door, and began searching through the bags to find her socks for her now cold feet.

She noticed that Dean must have brought in the rest of her bags, because her new phone was sat on her dresser as well. She looked at it longingly, before leaving her room and going back the way Sam had led her.

She heard them talking before they could see her. Just as she was about to walk into the room, she hesitated. Years of fending for herself ingrained into her, she held her breath to see what they were talking about. They had done so much for her, but her fear and distrust of adults ran deep and she wasnt ready to fully let her walls down.

"We'll have to cut back on hunts for at least the time being." She heard Sam announce.

"I agree. We need to get adjusted here first." Dean's gruff voice responsed.

Sam sighed. "It's going to take time."

What was going to take time? Me?

"Okay?"

"You aren't patient." Sam continued. "And-"

Dean cut him off. "I get it, Sammy. I had a lot of time to think in the car, and I get it."

Annie hated how there were unspoken parts of this conversation. It was almsot as if they knew she was listening.

"I just wanted to make sure." Sam said softly.

The older Wincheseter scoffed. "Yeah, well thanks for your trust in me."

"Dean, that's not what this is about and you know it."

Then what is it about! Annie wanted to scream.

"I know. But trust me, I get it."

Sam conceded. At least for right now. "Alright."

The silence drew on and there seemed to be a lull in the conversation. The only sounds were the clinking of what she assumed was probably beer. Disappointed that her eavesdropping hadn't gleaned her any new information, she walked around the corner and into their view.

"Hi."

Sam grinned at her atire. "Well, don't you look all squeaky clean."

Annie smiled. "I feel a lot better too."

"I bet." Sam said. "You all settled in? Need anything?"

"Uh, I just wanted to say goodnight, and thank you. Both of you. I really appreicate it."

Sam and Dean both smiled warmly at her. "You're welcome and good night." The middle Winchester said, as he got up to hug her one more time.

Dean followed his lead, and hugged his little sister as well. "Night, kid."
