Author's note: hey, so this is my first fanfic I have written, so I'd be happy for any feedback that you could provide me. Whilst I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about fate lore and such, I'd like to think I know enough to write this. Of course, if there is an issue with anything I write, whether it be related to shield hero or date, feel free to tell me what I did wrong, and I'll attempt my best to sort it out.
With that said, let's get into it I suppose.
Chapter One: Summoning of a sword
Shirou could only groan as he moved forward, his body numb as the blades stuck out of him, inhibiting his movement. Shirou couldn't stop himself, all he knew was he had to destroy what was Infront of him, completely and utterly. He desperately traced a weapon, and as it fell into his hand, he felt a sense of calm. He felt himself mouthing words he could vaguely remember as the world turned white, and his last thoughts turned to one person.
"Sakura…"
Shirou can only grunt as he feels the cold floor beneath him, several voices whispering around him.
"Is it done?"
"Are they summoned?"
Shirou hears more and more voices speak up, confused as to where he is, even as a man begins to speak. He stands up, with help from a person in a green and white jacket, flashing a smile at him before focusing on the man's speech.
"Oh brave heroes! Please, save our world and its people from the calamity that is upon us!"
The two other Japanese looking people look towards the man speaking, and Shirou notices the weapons in their hands, a spear and a bow. Shirou would shake his head, tuning out the man until the other three "heroes" began to walk towards the door, with Shirou following behind them.
Shirou pauses for a moment. "How am I alive?" He muttered to himself. He could clearly feel his body be destroyed by Excalibur, the divine construct using his body as fuel for one final strike. A thought for later Shirou mentally said, moving forward to follow the priests.
The four stood Infront of the throne, a wise looking man on it as he spoke.
"Brave heroes,"
Shirou unconsciously grimaced.
"I thank you for answering our calls. My name is King Aultcray. Would you care to introduce yourselves heroes?"
Shirou turned to face the left, the man with a spear speaking first.
"My name is Motoyasu Kitamura, 21 years old and a college student." A bright smile showed on his face as he twirled the spear around before planting it in front of him
The next to speak was the younger looking blonde boy.
"My name is Itsuki Kawasumi. It's a pleasure to meet you." He spoke politely. He couldn't get the feeling that the smile was fake out of his head.
The King motioned for Shirou to speak, before looking surprised.
"Sir sword, may I ask, where your… well, sword is?" As the king spoke, Shirou paused, his brain moving quickly, even as archer's arm lit up.
"I am the bone of my sword,"
Shirou gasped, falling to a knee as he felt a blade form in his hand. It felt… unfamiliar, yet familiar. He looked at the blade, and his mind froze. Whilst it was not on the level of a divine construct, weapons made for the gods, it was certainly close. Shirou could see the limitless potential in the sword, sealed off until the user either unlocked it, or some other condition was met. Shirou knew he could potentially brute force it, but he had a feeling it would injure him more than it was worth.
"Sir sword?"
Shirou stood up at the mention. "I'm sorry King Aultcray. I just opened one of my injuries from before I got here. I promise it will not happen again."
Shirou cleared his throat. "My name is Shirou Emiya, a high school student, 17 years old." The king nodded, and as the raven-haired man beside him began to speak, the King interrupted.
"Motoyasu, Itsuki, Shirou. I see great potential in your futures, and I hope you will all accept help from our kingdom, Melromarc." The three mentioned all nodded, unsure of how to respond, even as the shield was left out of it, standing awkwardly to the side. Shirou looked at him apologetically, but not willing to interrupt the King.
"Come heroes, it has been a long day, and it is time for you to get some food and rest. I will fetch for you tomorrow, so we may sort out your parties and funding." The four nod nod as they are led by the maids to the kitchen, quickly settling down for a meal.
Shirou could only sigh as he sat down on the common room sofa, relaxing his tense muscles.
"Man, you have been tense this entire time Shirou. What's that about?" Motoyasu asked curiously.
Shirou let out another sigh. "It's just, there are some… things I'm not clear on."
Motoyasu smiled. "Well don't worry! Motoyasu is here to help. After all, I know everything there is to know about Emerald Online!" Itsuki turned to Motoyasu. "What are you on about? This is exactly like dimension wave!" The two began to argue, all the while, Shirou simply rubbed at his arm, the red fabric around it slowly unwrapping. In a panic, he quickly wrapped it up tighter, a small sigh of relief escaping him.
Naofumi sighed at the other two heroes before speaking. "Well, why don't we try and clear some stuff up? Like asking some general questions?"
The two other heroes nodded, and Naofumi spoke. "Who's on the thousand yen note?" Each spoke different answers
"Who's the current president?"
"What's the most popular console?
"Who won World War 2?"
"It was obviously the allies!" The trio shouted, Shirou nodding with each question asked.
"I see, so it looks like we are all from different versions of Japan?" They all nod, finally sitting down. Motoyasu turned to face Shirou and Naofumi again. "What about you Shirou, Naofumi. Does this remind you of any game?" Naofumi shook his head. "Ah sorry, I didn't really play any games. I was the more tactics-based side of things, leading a guild and that type of stuff." Motoyasu and Itsuki nodded. "Still good skills to have." Motoyasu pointed out.
"I never played any video games." Shirou spoke bluntly. "I was a bit too busy for that." The others nod their head, with Motoyasu speaking first.
"So… what did you do?"
Shirou scratched the back of his head.
"That's kind of a secret? I'm not really supposed to tell people. But I can tell you I was good with swords." Shirou swung his blade lightly to give an example. Itsuki nodded in acceptance and Motoyasu spoke again. "So… how did you all get here?"
Itsuki had apparently been run over by a truck. Shirou could relate, what with his experience in the holy grail war. Being injured by all those servants, specifically Berserker and Rider who were certainly stronger than a truck, he could empathize a little. He patted Itsuki on the shoulder. "I'm… sorry?"
Itsuki let out a small laugh. "Don't worry Shirou, it's in the past now. What about you, Kitamura?" Itsuki challenged.
"Ah, well, I was quite popular with the girls you know?" Shirou and Naofumi stared at the spear hero.
"Don't tell me," Naofumi began. "You were two timing, and one of the girls found out, so they stabbed you?" Motoyasu opened and closed his mouth several times before speaking.
"...Yes? How did you know?" Naofumi only groaned as Shirou let out a small laugh.
"You next Shirou!" Motoyasu called out and Shirou obliged.
"I sacrificed myself to save those that I cared about, but even then, I still couldn't save my sister…" the other three heroes could only wince.
"Man, that sucks." Motoyasu spoke. Naofumi nodded in agreement. "Well, my tales aren't as bad as yours. I was simply reading a book, and I was transported. Your standard isekai I suppose."
The heroes all spoke about other things, general information and such, what they would do in this world. It wasn't until Naofumi spoke up. "Um, I'm hoping I get some nice party members. I can't really do much with a shield…"
Motoyasu and Itsuki shared a look, and Itsuki began to speak.
"Naofumi, I… have some bad news for you. Shielders, they tend to…'' Motoyasu continued the sentence. "They tend to suck late game." He spoke bluntly.
"They have bad damage output, and a lot of bosses can be out damaged if you try hard enough. That, and the fact that every other weapon gets buffed except the shield, it really drops off."
Shirou stares at the duo before speaking. "You know, I've only ever seen one shield" he began, "but that shield saved my life twice. The first was from an explosion, and the second, it helped me reach my friend. I don't think the shield is as bad as you're saying."
The other two speak to each other, looking occasionally at Shirou and Naofumi even as Naofumi gives him a small smile.
"Thanks Shirou. I appreciate it. I'll just have to try my best." Shirou nodded. "I'm off to bed, I'll see you in the morning." The three wave him off, all saying variations of good night as Shirou went to his room.
He sighed again, sitting on the bed, looking at the shroud on his arm. He unwrapped it slightly, letting the arm feel the air. For a moment, it was calm, unresponsive, but as Shirou relaxed, it began to attack, small memories leaking through, ones he'd likely see in his dreams before wrapping it back up. Shirou stared at it.
"It… took longer?" He shook his head. "I guess I should read the guide then…" he shuddered, thinking of what Tohsaka would say if he didn't make use of everything. He shivered slightly before reading.
He quickly read through the menu, taking note of the restrictions placed on him, namely that no weapons were to be used other than the holy sword, and that if it was broken, it would lead to consequences. He kept that in mind, a bit saddened by the loss of the spears he could use from archers' memories before shaking his head.
The next was his power up methods for his legendary sword. Namely Level link, which lets swords grow in power with him as he levelled up, slightly like a noble phantasm would grow in power as its legend grew, Shirou thought.
Mastery, which made a weapon stronger the more he used it until he fully mastered that specific weapon, with small, added on text saying that the method was enhanced due to his origin and element aligning.
The next was energy transfer, which led on from the previous method. He could reset the progress of a weapon, allowing him to have a pool of energy he could use on any weapon of his choice, and using enough of it would "awaken" the weapon, making it more useful, such as extra stats, new abilities and the like.
The last one was Rarity up, which was linked to the other two. By imbuing a weapon with that same energy, he could upgrade its rarity, going from common, all the way to artifact. There was a chance for failure, increasing in chance as the weapon ranked higher.
Shirou sighed as he fell back, closing the help menu and looking at his status.

This world… something just didn't feel right to Shirou. He'd have to keep a close eye on stuff. He could already tell that the king held great hatred for the shielder. For what reason? He couldn't tell. But nothing good was going to come of it. That was for sure. He laid down, closing his status menu, and shutting his eyes. It was going to be a busy time for him.
So, not sure if i will actually post more of this. It will probably depend more on feedback. It was just something I made late at night. Hope you all have a good day.
