DerepBrous(CH16): I am really glad that you are enjoying this. I feel like Kit has got the shortest end of the stick though. I really wasn't planning to have him be so prevalent, but I tried to include him where I could. His arc is kind of done though, I hope that doesn't deter you from reading any further.
Sonic and Surge have a lot of ground to make up for before they can get to "Romantic" First they have to be friends. Yes, Surge has incredible will power, but she also suffers for resisting it. She was given a "rebel" personality, so she's pretty spiteful. As for Surge and Amy, I've got fun stuff planned.

Sonic ran along the sandy plain. Surge was soaring through the sky, flashing in bright electrical bursts. She was pissed, and Sonic couldn't exactly blame her. He also couldn't help but be thoroughly impressed by her refusal to quit. In a way, her anger was her biggest strength.
Sonic kept following, but he was really starting to miss the Tornado. Sonic couldn't go full speed because if Eggman turned in any direction, then Sonic would go from chasing to tracking.
Strangely enough, He seemed to be heading back towards the ravine where the Eggman base was. Sonic turned and saw Tails carrying Kit who seemed especially angry.
Sonic saw the cave where two turrets activated from pillars. Sonic stopped, and got low before jumping up and slamming into one pillar, cutting through the gun before launching off the barrel to destroy the second turret.
Sonic then leapt off the large pillar to go deeper into the cave. Sonic had watched Tails get carried off right in front of him, He had failed to save Amy, he would not fail Surge. Sonic zipped forward, crashing into the badniks which barely had time to register Sonic was there.
Sonic zipped down the hallway before slamming into a cracked wall. Sonic wasn't sure why he slammed into it, but it crumbled. Sonic saw the large computers in the room. A large mechanical mole was plastered on the screen, with a drill on the front nose, and two small drills on the sides of the head. The name seemed to be CERBERUS.
Sonic quickly smashed the computers while the badniks were giving Sonic a break. He then ran up to a door, right as Tails came in.
"Sonic… Slow down." Tails huffed, panting as he set Kit down.
Kit's eyes were glowing, as he seemed to scan the room for something to smash. Sonic felt his fists shaking.
"She's waiting for us." Sonic found himself growling. He was not good.
"Surge will be fine… We'll get there." Tails sighed, stretching his back as he bent upward.
"Where…. Is…. She?" Kit hissed angrily.
Sonic looked at the little guy. He was ready to go ten rounds to save Surge. Sonic walked over and picked up the fennec, "Don't worry, we'll get her."
Sonic felt him calm down, with his ears going from standing to resting as he slumped down, "I don't want to lose her."
"We won't, I'll get her back, even if it kills me." Sonic smiled at the little guy.
Kit hugged him tighter, " Please don't die."
Sonic recoiled slightly, before stroking the back of Kit's head, "It's just an expression." He found the soft head helped Sonic calm down as well. Maybe he needed to slow down just a little bit.
"Like trash-talk?" Kit asked, hoping out of Sonic's arms and onto the ground, looking up at him.
Sonic and Tails looked at each other and laughed. Sonic nodded while laughing, "Yeah, let's go show that fat egg what happens when he messes with us."
Kit lit up, "Let's crack him!"
"You're getting it!" Sonic laughed. It was like watching Tails grow up in front of him.
They took off through the door. Sonic slowed down to let the foxes keep up with him. Three motorbugs with drills on their faces turned and spotted Sonic. They dug under the ground as Sonic ran past.
That was a mistake on Sonic's part, as when he ran a little further down the hallway, they shot up out of the ground, hitting Sonic in the chest, cutting a little harsher than he expected. His chest stung, but before he could retaliate, Kit's water tentacles wrapped around two and threw them into each other.
Sonic landed, and took a breath to ease himself out of the stinging. He'd need a ring, but that would come later. Right now, he was not going to leave another Tails behind.
Sonic made a turn as the tunnel became filled with more and badniks. This time, however, water Tentacles shot into the holes, and ripped out the badniks, who's eyes looked confused before Kit closed the water tentacles, crushing them.
Sonic was about to flash a thumbs up at Kit when Tails zipped forward and picked Sonic up right as a badnik shot out of the ground. Sonic probably would have been skewered if not for Tails.
"Thanks buddy." Sonic laughed nervously.
"Stay focused Sonic, let's try not to get a game over so close to the end." Tails chuckled, keeping Sonic over the angry badnik that got smacked with one of his friends.
"I'LL CRUSH YOU ALL!" Kit shouted, and Sonic turned to see two water Tentacles holding the fennec up as he seemed to stomp through the hall.
"Kit, We'll get her back, calm down!" Sonic called out.
Kitsunami seemed to calm down ever so slightly from Sonic's words. That being said, the little kit seemed to be on a mission.
"Kit, remember what we talked about?" Tails called out, and Kit stopped to look at Tails. Tails fluttered down and spread his arms, "If you want to be a big help to Surge, you need to keep a cool head. I know it get scary, but those Sonic-types are tougher than they look. Trust me, She'll be fine."
Kit seemed to take a deep breath, but his eyes still glowed with anger. Sonic could tell he was not used to being alone.
Tails smiled softly, as Kit continued to focus on him, " We're the smart ones. We got to keep a level head to keep our stupid siblings from getting hurt." Tails laughed softly.
Kit closed his eyes, and then opened them, losing their glow as he lowered himself back to the ground, "Yeah… but she's not stupid, ok."
Tails laughed slightly, "Alright."
Sonic cleared his throat, "What do you all say we go and save her?" Sonic a swinging motion with his fist.
Kit nodded, his eyes briefly sparking. This was a touchy subject for him alright.
They ran deeper into the base, smashing through the badnik hoards with ease. Kit was getting better about turning his anger on and off. Sonic spun through confused badniks as they ran deeper, and deeper.
Then, natural light shined above them. Sonic stepped out in what appeared to be a clearing.
"Come on you stupid rodent, just go to sleep or something!" Eggman's annoyed voice growled as the sound electrical sparks filled the air. Sonic came up to a cliff to see Eggman down below, with an angry Tenrec sparking and slamming into the yellow sphere. Her mouth was moving and from what Sonic could see, the word choice she was making not kid friendly.
Thankfully, She seemed to be muted by the plastic dome.
Sonic heard a growling next to him, and saw Kit struggling to stay composed. Sonic placed a hand on the back of his neck, and Kit turned to look at Sonic softly. He was easing up on his anger.
"I got a special model prepared just for you… a vole, see?" Eggman gestured to what looked like a large, earless rabbit with its janky metal form.
Surge continued to scream into the sphere.
Eggman groaned, "Fine, We'll do this the hardway… it's all you kids seem to choose anyway." He pressed a button on the Eggmobile and a robotic hand with a syringe came out, moving towards the sphere.
That was Sonic's cue to move, "Alright Eggman, That's enough, let her go!" Sonic stood up.
The Doctor jerked around, "What? Oh, Sonic, late as usual."
Kit growled, so loud that it actually echoed through the chamber.
Eggman blinked, "Is he alright?"
"He's mad you took his sister away." Tails spoke up, standing next to Sonic's back.
"Oh… foxboy, you're here…. Fine, take her." Eggman grumbled.
"Wait, that's it?" Sonic asked. That was… less work than Sonic thought it was going to take.
"Yeah, I've had her for about twenty minutes, and I've heard more naughty words out of her mouth in that time then I have in the past ten years." Eggman sighed, "She's honestly more trouble than she's worth at this point."
Eggman flew up higher before pressing a button. The yellow sphere around Surge opened up.
"-You limp-dicked soft skulled piece of shit!" Surge shouted up throwing her fist. Sonic was skeptical that she even realized that she was free.
"SURGE!" Kit cried and barreled off the cliff towards her, slamming into her with a tight hug.
"Hold up, Drippy. I've got a lot of shit to get off my chest!" Surge shouted up at Eggman, "You piece of shit, get down here and I'll re-arrange your teeth."
Sonic sighed and jumped down to meet his copy, "Surge."
She seemed to snap out of her anger, "Oh, hey faker. You came down here to get me?"
"Come on, I told you, I'm with you till the end of the story." Sonic held up a fist.
Surge blinked in surprise, and shifted a little. She was uncomfortable. Still, she held up a fist and bumped Sonic, " Yeah… well thanks."
"Uh… This mushy stuff makes me sick." Eggman groaned, "I'll leave now… with a parting gift!"
The walls began to shake as a large drill emerged from the wall. CERBERUS popped out, two large claws and a drill for a nose. Sonic and Surge both got ready.
Sonic and Surge ran to opposite sides of the ravine as CERBERUS shot straight forward. It slammed into the wall, and Sonic ran to the side of the large mechanical mole, slamming into a large red button. Sonic didn't even need to check Surge because she bounced up at the same time as him.
They both uncurled and flashed each other a thumbs up as they came down to land.
Sonic heard the mechanical mole screech, before digging into the wall, creating a large hole. Tails flew overhead with Kit.
The ground rumbled a bit before Cerberus burst out of the wall next to the hole it had left, causing the rocks to collapse in where the whole was.
This time, CERBERUS slid into the center of the room, and turned around to look at Sonic and Surge. CERBERUS fired the drills out of the side of its neck. Sonic and Surge jumped upwards to dodge, going towards each other.
Sonic held out his hand and Surge extended hers to high-five Sonic as they passed each other. Sonic then landed. Tails dropped Kit who picked up a rock and smashed it on CERBERUS's back. The mechanical mole screeched, before turning around and drilling into the wall behind it.
Sonic turned to Surge, "Sorry I didn't stop-"
"Not now, dumbass, we're cool!" Surge shouted at Sonic as the ground began to rumble again.
CERBERUS burst out of the wall again, and lunged at Sonic. The two understood how to beat CERBERUS though, and the spined rodents ran to the walls. That was the idea, but instead, drills then shot out of CERBERUS's neck, and flew at Sonic and Surge.
Surge was fine, jumping on the drill and shooting upward. Sonic, however, was worried about her, and didn't pay attention to himself. Sonic eased back as the drill cut across his chest, making the already sore piece of his body even more pained.
Sonic winced, but stayed standing.
"Yo, Faker, stay focused dumbass." Surge called out. Sonic nodded and slammed into CERBERUS's side along with Surge. The two buttons which appeared caved in. CERBERUS dug through the stone walls.
Sonic and Surge landed and turned around to prepare for the coming attack. Sonic felt his chest flair up as he turned. He winced.
"Yo, dumbass, stay in one piece." Surge called out.
Sonic panted, ready for a ring, "You do care." He grinned at her.
Surge smirked and rolled her eyes, "Fuck it, you're fine."
"You know it." Sonic grinned back at her. The two jumped to the side as CERBERUS burst out of the walls. Tails curled up and dropped on the giant mechanical mole's back.
CERBERUS dove back into the wall on the opposite side of them. Sonic panted for a moment, waiting for the monster to re-emerge.
Sonic heard water moving behind him. He turned and saw Kit making a shield on the wall with water. Sonic wasn't sure how that would help, but at least Kit was doing something.
Sonic got low as the wall rumbled once again. CERBERUS burst out, and flew at the wall. Sonic moved out of the way to avoid getting skewered, and saw the drill pierce the water shield and hit the wall.
Sonic then ran and hit the side of the mechanical mole. It shuddered as Surge did the same.
Sonic expected CERBERUS to drill into the wall, but after a few seconds, it seemed to actually stop. The Drill Smoked as gunk built up around it.
The water had mixed with chunks of rock and mud and stalled the drill. Sonic got low and ready to attack. Before he could, however, Kit ran under the Super Badnik, and slammed a water spike through it right as Tails dropped down on top of it.
Sonic saw the badnik explode, and Knuckles shot out with his yellow sphere. Sonic caught his friend, "Hey… Hey Knucklehead. I got you, man." Sonic gasped as he stung a little from the impact on his stomach. Sonic pushed him off.
Knuckles grumbled, "Uh… Eggman… Master Emerald… Sonic?"
Sonic nodded, "Yeah… Eggman got you."
Knuckles recoiled as Surge zipped over, "Yo, Faker, get your ass over here and help get Kit out!"
Sonic looked over and saw Kitsunami struggling under a large piece of the Super Badnik. Sonic ran over, "Hold up buddy, we'll get you out." He grabbed one side of the metal, and Surge grabbed the other side. They both lifted up. The metal piece weighted a lot more than Sonic thought it would.
"Here, let me." Knuckles chuckled softly, rubbing his nose. He grabbed between Kit and the metal chunk and began to lift, looking at Surge, "You got a name?"
Sonic filled in the gaps for Knuckles, "She's Surge. Long story short, she and I working together."
They raised up the piece of Metal, and Kit pulled himself out from under it.
Then, the cavern began to shudder.
"What the fuck is going on?" Surge shouted, looking around with panic.
"The drilling, it made the cavern unstable. We got to go!" Tails called out, and grabbed Kit.
The two took off. Sonic, Surge and Knuckles dropped the Metal piece and ran for the cliff, with Tails ferrying them up it. He got Knuckles first, then Surge, then He picked up Sonic before running away.
Sonic ran through the tunnel entrance as the cavern shook. He ran, dodging and weaving falling rocks and leftover badniks. As he was getting to what was probably the halfway mark, Sonic began to pick up speed running straight for the exit.
Unfortunately, a hard rock had other plans, hitting him in the head right as he took off. Sonic felt himself fall to the ground, his world fading to black.

Alright, So I was worried about having this bit. I don't like the idea of Surge becoming a damsel in distress. So I didn't let Eggman actually put her into a super Badnik just to have Sonic save her. Still, I crammed two arcs together to pad this out.
