Chapter 5: The Secret Common Room.
The lesson was on Transfiguration and the alphabet used; Harry couldn't pay attention much as he was looking over at Draco every couple of seconds, making sure he didn't pull his wand and jinx him to the moon. "Would you please stop looking at me?" Draco barked at Harry. "I'm trying to make sure I don't get attacked again," Harry barked back. The boys huffed and got back to working with Harry, still keeping an eye on Draco. The lesson was coming to an end; before the bell rang, McGonagall told them to put their books away as she had more to say to them.
Harry was already worried about what having classes with the Slytherins would be like; how could the punishment get worse? "You already know Ravenclaw and Slytherin will have classes together," McGonagall started, "You will also be studying together out of classes. You are to be studying together outside classes, you aren't going to be forced to sit with each other, but we have set tables aside in the Library for you." The class groaned. Wasn't having classes with Slytherin enough, Harry thought to himself, glaring at Draco, who was just sitting with his mouth open, disbelief all over his face. "Finally, you will also be moved to the joint Common Room that is only used for these purposes." McGonagall had just dropped a bomb that she never thought would be needed. "To recap, Professor," Daphne from Slytherin started, "You want us to Live, Study and, Learn together?"
"That's the idea, Ms. Greengrass; until you learn to behave and show your fellow students respect they deserve, you will be living in these conditions," McGonagall replied without skipping a beat. The bell rang, and everyone didn't even get up to move. They were all still trying to figure out if McGonagall was joking; after a minute, McGonagall said, "Well, get up, I will show you to your new Common Room" they all started to rise, realizing this was no joke.
She led them down the hall and up towards the Astronomy tower, stopping in front of a picture; the occupant was filling through robes, trying to find the perfect one. McGonagall cleared her throat and said, "Animagus" the image rose up the wall showing a hole leading into an empty standard room. The room seemed just to be cleaned for the new residents; Harry looked around and felt as if it was less homey than his old Common Room. The walls were pristine, and the carpet was empty of stains and scuffs. There wasn't the noise from other students or chairs moving along the floor. "You are to return here after dinner and classes to study and interact with your fellow classmates; anyone found not obeying these rules will be punished and may be expelled. Now get ready and walk down for dinner." McGonagall was almost gone once Hermione piped up and asked, "Professor, where do we sit during meals?" McGonagall seemed to not think of this and responded, "You are to sit at your normal tables, but if we feel you are not getting along, we may ask you to sit together."
This seemed to lift some weight off Harry as he smiled and thought, At least I get some break from Malfoy and his goons. "Also, remember you have your next class at 11 pm with Professor Sinistra at the top of Astronomy Tower tonight." McGonagall reminded them before leaving the students alone. Once the professor left, they split into two groups and started yelling at each other, "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULTS." This started to calm down when people went down the stairs leading to the dormitories. Harry went into his room, hoping he didn't have to share with Draco; once he entered, he was confused; the room looked the same as his room in Ravenclaw, he shrugged and put his books away and headed out towards dinner, Hermione caught up with him, and they both talked about how they must of charm the door to lead them to the old dormitories.
Once they reached the Great Hall, it seemed the news travelled fast; everyone turned their head towards them, they quickly ran to seats at Ravenclaw table, hoping people wouldn't ask them any questions. Harry barely understood what was happening already and didn't think he could explain it to anyone else. The other first years started to pile in and got similar looks, and the Slytherin students didn't even seem to care. Still, the others from Ravenclaw pulled a move identical to Harry and Hermione's where they just ran, trying to reach the table quickly with no one harassing them with questions. Dinner was a sombre affair for the Ravenclaw first years, knowing they wouldn't be able to go back and study in Ravenclaw tower. Harry was the first to finish from their table and got up to start leaving before he got hounded by anyone else; little did he know two people were waiting to talk with him and followed him out of the hall.
Harry followed the map heading towards his Common Room, hoping he didn't get lost; behind him, two figures were following him and gaining ground, "Harry, wait up," one of them called. Harry jumped with surprise, not knowing he was being followed; he looked back and saw Neville and Ron. They both stopped as they were out of breath after running for Harry; it took some time, but they both caught their breath and asked the question that seemed everyone wanted to know. "What happened? Why are you stuck with Slytherin?" Harry sighed and recapped the afternoon for his friends, who seemed to get more and more shocked as Harry explained. Harry finished explaining the afternoon he looked to his friends; both of them were frozen with shock, "Well, I got to get back to my common room," Harry said, leaving both Neville and Ron, who were still frozen.
The common room was hushed that night as no one spoke; only the occasional cough broke the silence and consistently awarded the cougher with death stares from the other side. The Ravenclaw students started to pack their bags at 10:30 and began to walk for Astronomy that night, and Slytherin followed suit later at 10:50. Harry enjoyed Astronomy being able to look out for worlds beyond Earth, hoping to leave Earth one day. They only got ten minutes on the telescopes before the clouds came in and blocked the sky from view. But Professor Sinistra was prepared and threw a ball into the air; as she did, it expanded into the universe in front of the whole class. Harry was mesmerized by the ball and paid more attention than was necessary, accidentally bumping into Daphne while trying to find a place to sit. "Watch where your going, scar head," Daphne snapped; nothing could break the trance Harry seemed to be in.
The class ended at 1 am, leaving everyone dead tired; everyone seemed to shuffle down the stairs, not having the energy to lift their feet. Harry later fell into bed, unable to focus on anything except his dead tired legs, and once he hit the bed, he fell right to sleep.
