"Thank god you're home." Tanya grunted from the impact of Kate flinging herself into her the phone call they shared Tanya knew that Kate had been rattled by the unknown woman but Tanya didn't realize just how rattled. She hadn't seen Kate this scared since the Volturi came for their mother and even then the fear had turned to anger. This though, this reaction from Kate made Tanya nervous. Kate was a fearless warrior who fought off two vampires when she was human to protect the life of the woman she was tasked with guarding. Now Kate was acting like a small child who had seen their first horror movie and needed comfort from her mother to feel safe again.
"Kate are you alright?" Instead of answering Tanya's question Kate just held on tighter. Tanya realizing that Kate wasn't going to move on her own accord picked Kate up only to have Kate wrap her body around the coven leader like she was toddler.
"She's been like that with the rest of us since she got back." Irina told her sister.
"Kate you need to get down so we can have a proper conversation." Tanya tried to pry Kate off of her but it wasn't working.
Kate shook her head. "No way. I'm staying with you."
"OK, if you want to stay with me how about you sit next to me so we can discuss how we are going to deal with this situation." Tanya let out a relieved breath when Kate let go and pulled Tanya next to her on the couch. Tanya would take what she could get. At least now she could move her arms.
"Welcome home Tanya." Carmen greeted her when she and Eleazar entered the room and took a seat on the love seat while Irina took a seat in an arm chair.
"So what exactly happened after you called me?" Tanya asked.
"Other than Kate not wanting to be alone, has to be in contact with one of us at all times and refuses to let any of us leave the house." Irina shrugged. "Nothing."
Before Tanya could speak her phone rang, she answered it and put it on speaker. "Hello."
"Hello Tanya it's Carlisle." Carlisle voice came through the phone. It was obvious the man also had his phone on speaker as well.
"What can we do for you?" Tanya had a feeling he was calling about the strange woman but wasn't going to reveal her hand if he wasn't.
"Well Alice had an incident while hunting and it was mentioned your coven had a similar one. I was calling to compare notes." Carlisle said.
"I see. What exactly happened to young Alice?" Tanya asked.
The Denali listened as Alice told them about meeting the strange woman. The difference to Kate's own experience was jarring because it showed the woman was purposely hostile to Kate and wasn't against vampires in general. After she finished Kate was the first one to speak. "You got to hold a baby fox?"
"Yeah. It's belly was so soft." Alice said.
"Man I got threatened and you got to cuddle forest creatures." Kate grumbled.
"The fact that you made a move to attack her might have set the tone for how she treated you Kate." Irina helpfully reminded Kate.
"You attacked her." All the Denali were taken aback by the anger coming through the phone when Rosalie spoke.
"What the hell?" Kate didn't know what was going on but now she was somewhat afraid Rosalie was going to attack her as well.
"Rosalie calm down." There was some shuffling and growling sounds coming from the background as Carlisle spoke again. "Sorry about that. It seems Rosalie caught the scent of the woman from Alice and has been acting very aggressive to anyone disrespecting the woman."
Tanya shot a look to Eleazar. Seeing him nod Tanya knew he was thinking the same thing. "Did anyone else react to the smell?"
"No just Rosalie and we are having a heck of a time trying to get her to calm down." Carlisle said confirming Tanya's thoughts.
"How much do you know about mate bonds Carlisle?" Tanya asked.
"I know that to find your mate you need to lock eyes with them and the bond is unbreakable. What does the mate bond have to do with anything?" Carlisle sounded beyond confused.
Tanya rolled her eyes at the imbecile. Then again they were still insisting that Edward was mated to his singer so Tanya shouldn't be surprised by the coven leader's lack of knowledge. "Your are correct that you need to make eye contact with your mate to solidify the bond but you can easily identify your mate through smell."
"Are you saying that this unknown woman is Rosalie's mate?" Carlisle didn't sound like he actually believed it.
"If no one else is reacting to the smell and from what I can hear going on in the background it seems Rosalie is being restrained so she can't run up here and kill Kate then it would make sense that Rosalie has found her mate." Tanya was sad that it was Rosalie and not her that finally found her mate but she was also happy for the blond vampire. She had always felt close to Rosalie. In some ways closer than she was with her sisters. So even though she was sad she would happily celebrate Rosalie finding her mate.
"But they are both women?" Carlisle sounded confused now.
Tanya rolled her eyes again."Vampires can be mated to those of the same sex Carlisle. It is rather common amongst our kind."
"Yes of course but Rosalie isn't like that." Carlisle said.
"Isn't like what Carlisle?" Irina asked. She couldn't wait to see how deep the hole Carlisle was digging would get.
"Well you know, Rosalie isn't one of those gays." Carlisle whispered the last word like saying it was illegal.
Kate removed one of her arms that she had wrapped around Tanya and faced palmed herself. "Oh man you did it now."
"And if she was one of those gays?" Tanya's voice took on a dangerous tone.
Carlisle the idiot he was didn't catch on. "Well then she will just reject the mate bond and choose a man to spend eternity with of course."
"Don't do it." Kate warned as she was now using her arms to not keep Tanya with her for safety but to hold her back from running off to Forks and killing Carlisle.
"Let's get back to what happened. Kate why don't you tell them about your experience with the woman." Irina knew not only how Tanya felt about homophobes but how she felt about Rosalie as well. She was very protective of the young vampire and to hear what her own sire said would easily make Tanya not only want to kill him but have no remorse when she did it.
"Yeah that's a great idea." Kate then launched into her tale about the woman she met in the woods. She flinched when she heard Rosalie let loose more of a roar then a growl hearing about Kate's failed plan to attack the woman and quickly got to the part about being frozen and not being able to move. Rosalie seemed to have calmed down when she found out her mate could easily protect herself and Kate feared less for her life the next time she came in contact with her cousin.
Tanya decided that she would speak to Rosalie privately later about what to do about Carlisle. She wouldn't let the blond stay there if her sire was going to be such a caveman in his views. Now she had important coven business to deal with though."So from what we got from both stories are that this mysterious woman is not any supernatural species we know about, she has the ability to take control of someone's body and is able to freeze them in place. She also has a way with animals that allowed Alice to cuddle a baby fox."
"Which is such bullshit." Kate grumbled.
"And calls them her children." Alice added.
"Right she claims that animals are her children and she doesn't want us feeding on them. If even one member of our coven does then the rest of us will be held responsible for not stopping them. Did I leave anything out?" Tanya asked.
"Just the fact that she also knew who Kate, Carlisle, Edward and myself as a human were as well as how I became a vampire and although she never mentioned my gift I had a feeling she knew all about knew about Edward's and Kate's." Alice said.
"Ok so that means she is definitely watching us somehow."Kate shivered at the thought. Noticing the looks she was getting she explained. "I don't want her watching me. If I had it my way I would have my mind erased so I would never have to think about that woman again."
Tanya ignored Kate as Kate snuggled further into the coven leader's side. "What is your coven going to do about this Carlisle?"
There was a long pause before Carlisle spoke. "While it's concerning I'm not willing to give up our way of life just because of a threat from a single woman.I don't think we should hunt her down and kill would however be of interest to maybe capture her so we could study her and find out what she is."
There was a loud thud followed by Esme's panicked screaming. "Rosalie give him back his arm. Emmett help me."
"No way am I getting involved." They heard Emmett say.
"Jasper." Esme's voice was almost drowned out by Carlisle's screams of pain.
"Jesus Christ! What the fuck are they doing?"Kate didn't know what was happening on the other end of the line but wished she were there to see it.
"Rosalie has only been exposed to her mate's scent. Without actually seeing her mate and cementing the bond she will likely try to kill anyone who is a threat to her. It's her beast that is controlling her actions." Eleazar explained.
"If I were there I would have made a move on Carlisle as well."Irina shook her head at the disgusting coven leader. "To think it would be ok to capture this unknown woman to study her and do testing on her. He is such a sick man."
"Agreed." Eleazar said. He and his mate had heard many things about the doctor and had always kept their distance from the man even though they shared the same diet. Unlike him though they didn't do it to feel superior. They did it because they couldn't take the mindless killing and having to dispose of dead bodies. They wanted to settle down and feeding on animals allowed them to do it. Now when the Cullens visited they tried to be around the coven leader and the mind reader as little as possible.
"Sorry about that guys." Alice's voice came over the phone. "Rosalie got upset with what Carlisle said and ripped off both his arms. No one wanted to get involved because we all agreed that Carlisle was wrong but Esme's pleading spurred Jasper into Carlisle and Esme are up in their room putting him back together and staying as far away from Rosalie as they can."
"Is Rosalie alright?" Tanya asked.
"I'm fine but if Carlisle gets the bright idea to show his face any time soon he won't be." Rosalie growled.
"Well now that we know your coven leader is an idiot, what do you five want to do?" Kate asked.
"Well when I talked to the woman she told me that she knew Edward, whom she called the mind reader, would be a problem and said that we would not be held responsible for his actions. However we were still accountable for everyone else's." Alice informed them.
"It's good to know that that asshat won't be causing trouble for us." Irina had been worried that Edward would do something stupid to bring the woman's wrath down on all of them.
"Are any of you thinking of following Carlisle's lead and ignoring the woman's warning?" Tanya needed to know what kind of trouble they were going to have with the Cullens. Her coven had already decided to heed the woman's warnings and while Tanya was traveling home she had been looking for ways to get bagged blood.
"I'm not but I can't speak for the others." It was no surprise that Rosalie would go along with the woman's wishes. She would do anything to make her mate happy.
"Jasper and I are also going to abide by her wishes." Alice said.
"Emmett and myself are as well." Edith confirmed.
"Yeah but I do want to meet her though. She sounds like such a badass. I want to see what other things she can do." A loud smack was heard followed by Emmett groaning. "What was that for?"
"Don't provoke Rosalie." Edith told him.
"Do you believe that Carlisle, Esme and Edward are going to be a problem?" Tanya needed to know what the others thought before she made her offer.
"Edward already said as much when he went on and on about it being one woman and we should just kill her. He then claimed he could do it himself as she would be no match for him. When Carlisle said we wouldn't do anything until we talked to you guys he stormed out and went to his girlfriend's house." Alice said.
Tanya wasn't surprised to hear that. The boy thought he was better than everyone else. She didn't understand why the kings hadn't killed him yet but it seemed he knew how to behave in front of the royals and the guard. "What about Carlisle and Esme?"
"There is no way Carlisle is going to give up feeding from animals. You know how he is about vampires who drink human blood. Esme will follow whatever Carlisle says as she usually does." What Alice said didn't come to a shock to any of them.
"I want to extend an invitation for all you to come to Alaska." Tanya quickly added when she heard Rosalie growl. "However since both Carlisle and Edward seem to be threats to Rosalie's mate I was wondering if it would alright to come visit you. I have a feeling those two are going to do something stupid and get you all killed. It might help you to have us there to deal with whatever is to come."
"We all think those two are going to provoke the woman as well." Alice agreed. "If you would like to come visit we will set up the guest rooms for you. Maybe you could even talk some sense into Carlisle."
"I doubt that." Tanya didn't think anyone would be able to talk any kind of sense into that ignorant man. "We will be there as soon as we have acquired a supply of blood bags for not only ourselves but you as well. I doubt Carlisle will actually help you get any."
Alice sighed in obvious relief. "Thank you. We haven't even had a chance to think about how we were going to feed."
"Don't worry Alice if worst comes to worst you will be welcome to join our coven. There is no way we would leave you to deal with the fallout of a single man's actions." Tanya reassured them. Compared to the sisters all of the Cullens including Carlisle were just children. They didn't understand how the world really worked. Carlisle could pretend to be human all he wanted but that wouldn't change the fact that he wasn't.
"Thank you Tanya. We will let you go so you can make your preparations. If we find out anything more one of us will contact you. We won't bother going to Carlisle."Alice was making it clear where their loyalties lie.
"Good bye everyone." Tanya ended the call and looked around the room at her coven mates. "So it seems the Cullens are going to be making a deadly enemy very soon."
"Are you sure we have to go down there?" Kate didn't want to go because she knew eventually that woman would show up.
"We can't leave those poor children there alone to be slaughtered because of that stupid man." Carmen wasn't going to stand by why innocent people died because they were stuck in a bad situation.
"I agree. Just because Carlisle is an idiot and Edward is full of himself doesn't mean the rest of the coven has to die. I'm not sure what Esme will do. Maybe the woman will actually form an opinion of her own and save herself." Irina wasn't counting on it though.
"Alright now that we have a plan, let's get packed and ready to go to Forks. How does everyone feel about just breaking into a few blood banks or hospitals on our way there?" Tanya asked.
"That sounds like a hell of a lot of fun." Kate was excited by the idea of getting to break some laws. She would just make sure someone was with her while she did. Kate didn't want to be apart from her coven even if it was for a good cause.
"Good then since I'm already packed from my trip I'll look up places online while you guys get ready." Tanya pulled out her phone and began searching for places to get blood bags on their route to Forks. Getting through the Canadian border would be easy because they knew a few place to cross that had no check points. She did however want to make good time so they would have to steal as close to the route they were going as they could. That meant they would have to be careful not to alert authorities of the robberies and have them connect the dots. Tanya knew between the five of them they would be able to get in and out quickly. That was good because she had a feeling that they needed to be at Cullen's as soon as possible if they wanted to help save their cousins from the backlash of whatever Carlisle and Edward were going to drag them into.
