This idea got in my head and just wouldn't go away. This is my first story/oneshot for this fandom, hopefully it's not horrible. This story has some minor bashing for nearly everyone, though most of it is conjecture and not actually shown. Also, no Beta we die like Sirius.

It's not Paranoia if You're Right
Harry Potter lied awake in his dorm, bloodshot eyes staring at the ceiling. Sixth year wasn't going great. Sure, he wasn't being tortured during his detentions nor was he competing in a death tournament, but the aftermath of his previous years was still haunting him. Voldemort's return, Cedric and Sirius' death and Umbitch are all highlights in the tragedy that is his life. Of course, Snape and Malfoy weren't helping in the present, but they at least were a known and consistent threat.
Reminiscing on his past has brought his focus on one detail from the Tri-Wizard tournament that he seemed to have forgotten. Why did he take Ron back? His "best friend" had turned his back on him almost immediately, and only came back around after the first task. Sure, he was loyal since then, but taking a critical eye to his behavior before and after painted a different picture. He was consistently rude to others, constantly tries to mooch off others when it comes to schoolwork and seemed to have little to no empathy for muggles or muggleborns. Often, his behavior seems to mirror Malfoy's, except lazier.
Harry's thoughts latched on to that. Is Ron a secret Death Eater? No, no he can't be. He's on the light side, the best friend of the Boy Who Lived. But was he? He is a pureblood despite his financial status, he was typically just as sheep-minded as the rest of the wizarding population unless he or Hermione knocked some sense into him and he had a sense of entitlement typical to purebloods.
… Ron's a Death Eater, isn't he?
More than that, most purebloods are Death Eaters. Almost all of them were cowards and sheep that follow those who bleat the loudest. The ones who weren't tend to abuse that the rest are, leading in an effectively authoritarian way when possible. Even Dumbledore seemed to follow this trend. The Order was headed solely by him, and he hardly ever listens to other's suggestions. All of this led to the freedom of most of the Death Eaters the first time around and their tendency to turn on him at the drop of a hat. That's it isn't it, most of the purebloods may not be marked, but their inaction and corruption made them Death Eaters all the same, at least to him.
Were there any purebloods he could trust? He was still on the fence about Ron, but Neville seemed trustworthy. He may be a pureblood and a bit of a coward at first, but he's come into his own since then, even assisting with the raid on the Ministry. His grandmother also seemed to be an exception to the pureblood template, obstinate, independent and informed. Not to mention the fate of his parents, no way either of them would willing become a Death Eater.
Willingly… Oh. He forgot about that. Wizards have many ways to get around that. The Imperious curse chief among them, but there are numerous mind-altering potions and just straight up blackmail as well. While he was pretty sure Neville wasn't susceptible to blackmail, nearly everyone was susceptible to the Imperious curse, and while the effects of potions tend to be obvious, if it's made and dosed by a master then he'd probably never even notice a difference until it was too late.
Maybe Moody had the right idea with his "always vigilant" catchphrase. Perhaps he could share with him how to detect the use of such magic. Assuming he didn't run into another polyjuiced double. For now though, Harry needed to focus, who among his confidants is actually trustworthy and unlikely to be compromised.
He threw out all the purebloods and the half-bloods raised in the wizarding world. Muggleborns and muggle-raised have less opportunity to be affected by these things if only because the muggle world tends to be anathema to purebloods, but it's not impossible. The less conspicuous the muggleborn, the better. Unfortunately, that throws out all the ones he's actually familiar with. Being associated with him was a one way ticket to being noticed by Death Eaters. He was willing to make an exception for Hermione, if only because he already suspected she was under the influence of some kind of mind control.
Her behavior this year seemed rather off, especially when it comes to Ron and himself. Her pining for Ron and her combative attitude towards him implied two specific potions, Amortentia, a love potion, keyed for Ron and Discordia, a potion that causes the one who ingests it to see the worst in whoever the potion is keyed to, in this case himself. He didn't have proof, but he was fairly sure Ron was dosing her, and having the potions brewed by Mrs. Weasley. If he could get her a bezoar or convince Professor Slughorn to brew a cure for her, he could ensure he had one trustworthy and uncompromised friend.
His thoughts turned to the Hogwarts professors. Could he trust them? The DADA teacher was almost always a threat to him, and given that it's Snape this year, he's doubly untrustworthy. He was sure that Professor McGonagall meant well, but she seemed to have issues asserting her authority to actually help. Professor Flitwick's goblin heritage meant he most likely wasn't on Voldemort's side, but that same heritage also meant he had different values from the usual wizard, and might not stand by the wizarding world when push comes to shove. After crossing off a few more teachers, he came to the last two, Professor Dumbledore and Hagrid.
He's sure Dumbledore does oppose Voldemort on some level, but his actual effectiveness leaves much to be desired. Even if he was effective and trustworthy, his practically unconditional trust in Snape was such a black mark on his record that Harry concluded that his trust in Dumbledore should be limited at best. Hagrid unfortunately had a similar black mark, his propensity for revealing information that he really shouldn't to others, something he has guiltily taken advantage of before. He liked the guy, he really did, but trusting him could get him killed.
What about other adults? He desperately wants to trust Moony, but the lack of interaction with him before and after his stint as DADA teacher in third year meant to him that Moony was ultimately Dumbledore's man and by association couldn't be trusted. The same applied to pretty much every Order member, if their loyalty was to Dumbledore first then he couldn't trust them. Funny how Snape manages to taint everything he's involved in.
Harry's mental list of confidants was culled down to just one, Hermione, and even her trustworthiness was contingent on her being freed from whatever potions she was on. Harry gave a cursory thought to anyone he may have missed, and decided to add Luna Lovegood back. Luna was very much… Luna. He highly doubted she would willingly betray him, and the odd way she typically behaves would mean mind-altering effects would be significantly more obvious, especially to those who know her. Okay, he had two… one and a half trustworthy confidants. And Dobby. Couldn't forget Dobby or Hermione would kill him.
He thought back to a conclusion he made earlier. All of the sheeple purebloods were Death Eaters, whether they were marked or not. What if they were marked? Wizarding world fashion revolved around long robes and other overly conservative outfits. Most of these outfits always covered the arms. He was fairly confidant he had never seen the bare arm of any adult pureblood that didn't have the Dark Mark, who's to say that the rest don't have it too?
Not only that, but what of the half-bloods and muggleborn? Snape was a half-blood and he was a Death Eater, not to mention Voldemort himself. Muggleborn may not be welcome within the Death Eaters, but who's to say they're actually muggleborns? He hardly talked about anything muggle related with them, anyone could say they're a muggleborn, and as long as they're discreet they could get away with it.
And what of the teachers? Snape is the obvious Death Eater with obvious biases, but none of the other teachers really contest his rulings, even Dumbledore lets his pet Death Eater do whatever he wants with virtually no repercussions. Could the rest of the teacher's actually be Death Eater's too?
The Order too. They follow Dumbledore, and they're completely unwilling to deal killing blows to Death Eaters. Could they be...?
Could Hufflepuff house have become Death Eaters in response to their hatred of him?
Could the Weasleys be looking to move up in the world by becoming Death Eaters?
Could Neville have become a Death Eater to spite his Gran?
Is everyone a Death Eater!?
Harry's gaze finally shifted, looking at the other occupants of his dorm. Their snoring, loud and quiet sounded more and more fake the more he listened.
Could they be?
He grabbed his invisibility cloak and the Marauder's Map and quickly and quietly escaped Gryffindor Tower, making his way to the Room of Requirement. Entering the room he found a pleasant surprise, one and a half of his trusted confidants. Luna and Hermione seemed to have been using the room for studying before he arrived.
"Luna, Hermione they, they're all Death Eaters." Harry's sleepless eyes darted around, looking for threats.
"All of them, every single witch and wizard, marked and unmarked, child and adult."
"Harry calm down! What are you talking about? Who are you talking about?" Hermione had adopted a confused expression and had risen to approach him. Luna had a Luna expression and was similarly approaching him.
"Everyone! They're all Death Eater's I've got all the evidence!" Before Hermione or Luna could stop him, he launched into a jumbled and not at all cohesive explanation about his conclusion. Hermione tried to get a word in edgewise at first, but eventually decided to just wait for him to finish. Luna's eyes practically sparkled as she took notes and set up a conspiracy board. When Harry had finally wound down, Hermione's eyes only showed concern for her friend.
"Harry this is completely paranoid! You can't honestly believe this!?"
"It's not paranoia if you're right," both Harry and Luna say simultaneously.
"Harry, when was the last time you got a proper night's sleep?" Hermione's question seemed to throw Harry off for a moment before he responded.
"Probably the beginning of fourth year," Harry could feel the weight of all his sleepless nights weighing him down now, he was glad Luna set up the string board now since he was pretty sure his mind couldn't retain all of this information in this state.
"Harry, you need to sleep. If it'll make you feel better, we can get you a bed in here and watch over you."
"Oh yes, sleep is a good treatment for a nargle infestation, alongside corks and friends."
"But, what about you two?"
"Oh honestly Harry, one night without sleep won't kill us, or put us in a state that is even remotely close to your current one." Harry's apprehension was dissolving by the second and had completely gone when a bed appeared in the center of the room.
"Come Harry, dream and lose your nargles." Harry meant to say something in response but had passed out the moment his head touched the pillow. Luna and Hermione observed Harry for a few moments before Luna addresses Hermione.
"When are we delivering him to the dark lord?"
A/N: Is Luna being facetious or serious? Who knows. So, what did y'all think. How horribly did I do?
