Harry followed the rest of the group as A man named Robert Muldoon led them to the infirmary. After they had met the jeep in the tunnel and found a creative way to load seven people into the tiny jeep they had made their way out of the part, noticing the fence to the Baryonyx paddock had also been torn down which was very troubling. The dilophosaurus fence was still intact by the road but that didn't guarantee it wasn't on the loose as well.
From what Harry had learned, the lead programmer had initiated a sequence of shutdowns that had taken out most of the power and the phone lines to the park.
In other words, the park had lost all control of the dinosaurs and had no way to call for help.
The control room was working to hack through the program some guy named Dennis Nedry had initiated that had shut down the park. Though from what Dr Sattler had said, it would take a long time to go through the different lines of code.
"Alright Harry, take a seat," Dr Sattler said as she pointed to one of the hospital beds.
"Why?" Harry asked in confusion.
"Because your bleeding," Ellie said pointing to his left side where he had been cut when the car had flipped over.
"It's just a few cuts," Harry protested as Ellie pulled his shirt up to look at the wound.
"Some of these are pretty deep and there is still glass sticking out of your side, lift your arms," Dr Sattler instructed in a tone reminiscent of Madam Pomfrey.
Harry tried to protest but in the end just gave in, once he lifted his arms she gently removed his shirt taking care not to pull on the wounds.
The process to remove the glass and sterilising the wounds was quite uncomfortable and made Harry appreciate how good he had it at the Hogwarts infirmary.
According to Dr Sattler, Harry got off pretty lucky not many of the cuts were very deep and she was able to seal those with glue. Besides the cuts and a nasty bump on his head, Harry's injuries from the crash were negligible.
Timmy had been seen first as his wounds were the most severe but from what Harry could tell he only required a few stitches just below the hairline.
"Lex had a few cuts on her shoulder but nothing that needed more than a bit of peroxide and a few bandages.
Ian was a whole different story, he had suffered multiple breaks in his leg and nobody on the island had the medical experience to treat the injury. This made it imperative that the phone lines get fixed so they could call in the chopper before the wound became infected.
"Here Harry, go get cleaned up and see if these fit," Dr Grant said as he threw Harry a pair of brown cargo shorts and a white Tee shirt with a red Jurassic Park Logo printed on it.
"Thanks," Harry said as he picked up the clothes and took them into the loo on the other side of the ward.
The bathroom had a walk-in shower and a large rack of white towels. The water stung the wounds on his side at first but he quickly adjusted and began scrubbing the caked mud out of his hair. Enjoying the feeling of the warm water running over the sore muscles of his back.
After staying under the water much longer than necessary, Harry shut the water off and stepped out of the shower.
Harry quickly dried off and grabbed the shorts noticing they were folded over a plastic bag of some sort. Unfolding the shorts he found that there were actually two small packages inside. The first was a three-pack of Hanes underwear, and the second package was a single pair of black and red ankle socks with the Jurassic Park Logo printed on them.
Ten minutes later, Harry stepped out of the bathroom wearing the new clothes and feeling refreshed.
"Thanks, they fit fine," Harry said when he joined the group seated around Dr Malcolm's bed.
"Good, I got you some shoes too," Alan said indicating a shoebox on the bed he had sat on a little while ago.
"Where did this come from?" Harry asked as he opened the box and pulled out the brand new shoes.
The shoes were light brown leather with sections of dark blue on the sides and over the toe, they were a hightop design, with a baby blue swoop overtop of the sections of blue nylon on the sides. Harry quickly pulled them on and laced them up noticing they had a pretty aggressive tread pattern.
"The store downstairs, they have just about anything you could want," Dr Gtant replied as Harry tied up the laces.
"I don't have any money on me," Harry said quietly.
"Mr Hammond said to get you outfitted with a fresh set of clothes, he's having food sent up shortly," Dr Grant waved him off.
"Alright Timmy, go get cleaned up," Dr Sattler instructed the younger boy who had been in conversation with Lex.
"Okay," Timmy nodded before grabbing a blue duffel from the floor beside his bed and hurrying off to the bathroom.
"Any luck on the phones," Harry asked as he took a seat beside Lex on her bed.
"No, they are debating doing a complete system shut down but that could cause a whole new set of problems," Dr Grant answered as he shot the unconscious man two beds over a worried look.
Before anything else could be said, Mr Hammond entered the infirmary pushing a cart loaded with food.
"I figured you all might be hungry," Mr Hammond said gesturing to the platter of sandwiches wrapped in cellophane, assorted chips, and twenty-ounce bottles of Coca-Cola.
"I'm starving, grampa," Lex said happily as she made her way over to the cart and found a plate set aside for her.
"If you ate real food you wouldn't have that problem," Harry smirked noticing the strange vegetable dish she was eating as he grabbed himself a wrapped sandwich and a Coke.
"We are still trying to get through the program Nedry set up into our system but haven't had any luck so far. If Mr Arnold is still unable to bring our systems online by morning, we will initiate a complete shutdown and start it up from the beginning," Mr Hammond explained as the others began to eat.
"What about the ones that broke free, can they get here?" Harry asked quietly between bites of his roast beef sandwich.
"Unfortunately they can, the park was set up to be almost completely reliant on electrical systems. The only physical barriers in place are the terrain itself," Mr Hammond said looking troubled.
"I believe the Rex will be content where it is, there were a few herbivore paddocks close to where she escaped so it won't have any need to come here," Dr Grant said in a reassuring tone.
"But the Baryonyx is another story, it will most likely gravitate towards a water source," Dr Sattler cut in looking concerned.
"Like that river that runs down the other side of the compound?" Harry asked between bites of his sandwich.
"Yes exactly. The Baryonyx was believed to eat fish but there is some speculation that they were also scavengers and were thought to have preyed on the young and the injured," Grant explained.
"That's just great, how big is this thing anyway?" Lex asked sounding alarmed.
"The one we have is twenty-four feet long, it stands about ten feet tall and weighs in at twenty-eight hundred pounds," Mr Hammond answered looking troubled
"Dr Grant, I was wondering if you and Dr Sattler would accompany me back to the control room for just a bit?" Mr Hammond said after he had finished his own sandwich.
"But what about the kids?" Dr Sattler asked looking conflicted.
"We'll be fine," Harry assured her as he got up and grabbed another sandwich and a bag of chips making sure to set a couple aside for Timmy not that it mattered there were still eight sandwiches on the tray.
"Are you sure?" Dr Grant asked shooting Harry a calculated look.
"Yeah, we'll be alright if something gets in you'll probably know before we do," Harry shrugged.
"Excellent, just stay in here and we shan't be gone very long," Mr Hammond said giving Harry a grateful smile.
As soon as they stepped out of the ward and the door snapped shut, Lex turned to look at him.
"What did you do to that dinosaur?" Lex demanded.
"Why do you think it was me?" Harry asked uncomfortably.
"Because I saw you lift the car with that stick thing of yours," Lex said flatly as she put her empty plate back on the cart never taking her eyes off of him.
"Alright fine, it was me and it's called a wand, not a stick," Harry said drawing said wand and pointing it at her plate before whispering, "wingardium leviosa."
Harry levitated the plate off of the cart and made it float to the ceiling before gently lowering it so it landed back on the cart.
"How did you do that?" Lex asked in awe.
"I'm a wizard," Harry said simply as Timmy came out of the bathroom.
"Where did everybody go?" Timmy asked as he took a sandwich off of the cart.
"Control room," Harry answered simply before he finished his drink and got up to go have a look out the window.
The sky had cleared and Harry could make out the stars burning bright in the sky. The mountains stood out clearly in the distance and Harry could have sworn he heard the roar of the T-rex off to the east. The wide lawn around the visitors centre was lit up in the glow of spotlights which greatly confused him
How could some of the systems still have power (like the infirmary) but other parts not? If this were a normal electrical system he would swear they had just blown a fuse or something.
Harry was pulled from his thoughts when he saw the outline of something large slink out of the jungle. It wasn't as big as the rex but it was still fairly large. He could make out a long slender crocodilian head and long tail before it passed from his line of sight. The thing that worried him was whatever it was he had just seen was small enough to get inside.
"Lex does that door lock," Harry asked as he turned around to see Lex standing almost right beside him.
"No, it has one of those computer locks like all the other doors, why do you ask?" Timmy said looking at Harry in confusion.
"How far away is the control room?" Harry asked ignoring the question for a moment.
"The other side of the floor," Lex answered.
"Damn it!" Harry exclaimed drawing his wand and watching the door nervously.
"What's wrong?" Timmy pressed.
"I saw a dinosaur outside, it had a head kind of like a crocodile," Harry said looking at Tim in hopes he knew what it was.
"M-must be the Baryonyx Dr Grant was talking about," Timmy said nervously as they heard a loud crash from somewhere below them.
"Colloportus", Harry muttered as he pointed his wand at the door causing the door to seal with a loud squelching sound.
"What did you do?" Lex asked curiously.
"Locked the door," Harry answered as Tim went to turn the handle only for it to stay locked in place.
"W-will that keep it out?" Lex asked hopefully.
"For a bit, I'm pretty sure it can still break down the door if it wants in," Harry answered quietly as he heard more crashing on the floor below him.
"How did you lock the door," Tim asked in confusion.
"Magic," Harry replied as the sound of breaking glass was heard.
"There is no such thing as magic," Timmy snorted.
"I said the same thing about dinosaurs until this afternoon," Harry answered as a loud crash was heard somewhere in the building.
"So Lex was telling the truth?" Timmy asked still not sounding like he believed Harry.
"Yeah," Harry said distractedly as the crashing sounds were getting louder, it sounded like whatever was making the sound was getting closer.
"Why did you pretend you didn't lift the car?" Lex asked sounding very annoyed with him.
"Because it's against the law to perform magic in front of muggles," Harry answered distractedly as he listen for any more sounds coming from the floor below.
"Muggles?" Timmy asked in confusion.
"It's what wizards call non-magicals," Harry explained hearing the sounds from downstairs moving further away from them now.
"Wizards, so there are more out there?" Lex asked sounding taken aback.
"Yeah, I don't know about America but in Britain, we have our separate government and our own school," Harry answered.
"Like a school for wizards?" Timmy asked sounding fascinated.
"And witches," Harry nodded chuckling at the look of awe on the younger boy's face.
"So can't you just turn the dinosaurs into toads or something?" Lex demanded.
"I can't, I am only a third-year student," Harry snorted at the mental image of turning the T-rex into a giant chicken.
"What can you do?" Timmy asked.
"Simple stuff mostly. I can lock and unlock doors, set stuff on fire, levitation, light spells and a few simple Transfigurations that wouldn't be of much use to us," Harry shrugged as a loud 'crash' sounded in the hallway outside.
"Lovely, I think it made it up the stairs," Harry groaned wishing he knew a spell to mask his scent.
"It smells us, doesn't it?" Lex said looking like she already knew the answer.
"Probably," Harry nodded as his grip on his wand tightened.
'Booom!'
All three of the occupants jumped when something heavy slammed into the door hard enough to shake the wall. If it wasn't for Dr Malcolm he would have already dragged the other two out of the infirmary but Harry couldn't very well leave the man behind.
'Booom!'
Harry groaned out loud when he saw the wood of the door starting to splinter from the impact.
"The door is breaking," Lex said her tone very high.
"Reparo," Harry muttered pointing his wand at the door.
Harry watched the split that was forming in the middle of the door sealed itself back together, making the door look good as new.
'Boooom'
The damage he had just repaired was undone as the dinosaur slammed into the door again making the door start to splinter and crack in the middle.
"Reparo," Harry hastily muttered fixing the door again.
"Keep doing that," Timmy muttered shakily.
"I will but it only works so many times before the door's integrity is compromised," Harry sighed as he hoped the others had heard what was going on.
'Boom!'
Harry realized the repairing charm wasn't going to last much longer as a piece of the door shot across the room from the force of the impact.
"Reparo," Harry exclaimed angrily and the door reformed again but now there was a strip of wood missing in the middle of the door.
"Where are the others?;" Lex demanded surprised no one had heard all the commotion going on.
"In my experience adults only show up after the problem has been solved," Harry admitted as a long head burst through the door.
"Incendio!" Harry yelled causing a thin ribbon of flame hit the dinosaur in the face.
Harry felt some satisfaction when he heard the dinosaur shriek in pain before it retreated into the hallway, the smell of scorched flesh hanging in the air.
"Th-that worked pretty well," Timmy said looking shaken.
"Only trouble is I can't use it too long or the building could catch fire," Harry sighed as he watched the dinosaur skulk in the hallway seeming to be considering if it should continue the attack.
"I didn't know it could walk on all fours," Timmy muttered from Harry's left.
"Who cares, we have to get out of here!" Lex shrieked as she got a good look at the creature.
"We can't," Harry said as the Baryonyx charged forward its long thin jaws opened wide exposing rows of tiny sharp teeth.
The door didn't slow it down this time and it burst into the room, Harry pulled Lex and Tim back as it snapped with three-foot-long jaws narrowly missing Timmy.
Harry freed his wand hand and yelled, 'flippendo," forcing as much power as he could into the spell.
The blue spell shot across the room and slammed into the creature in a fraction of a second. The force of the spell tossed the massive animal across the room where it slammed into one of the cabinets full of medical supplies.
"Get to the other side of the room," Harry said pushing the other two in the direction of Dr Malcolm's bed.
"What about you?" Lex demanded as Timmy dragged her back.
"I just got an idea," Harry muttered as he ran to the window hearing the creature scrambling to its feet before letting out an enraged 'roooooar!'
Harry turned to see the Baryonyx stalking towards him, its clawed feet clacking on the stone floor.
"Come and get me," Harry taunted before casting a severing charm that made a small cut across the dinosaur's shoulder.
Just as he hoped the Baryonyx charged forward, clearing the distance between them in less than a second.
Harry dove to the right, the dinosaur's jaws missing him by a fraction of an inch before it burst through the glass of the window. Harry watched it tumbling thirty feet to the ground below, it landed face first on the lawn before flipping onto its back, tearing up the lawn as it slid to a stop on the wet grass.
Harry shakily got to his feet and looked down at the long slender dinosaur, he was kind of surprised when he saw it starting to stir.
"I-is it dead?" Lex asked coming up beside him.
"No, it's getting up," Harry said distractedly as the Baryonyx's head lifted and looked up at him and Lex,
Harry watched it roll onto its stomach with surprising agility before it sprang to its feet, letting out a high-pitched roar of fury. It just stared at them for a moment, its tail wagging from side to side like a cat before it suddenly charged forward.
The Baryonyx made it to the side of the building and sprang into the air, the three sharp claws on each of its hands punching through the stucco on the side of the building as it began to climb towards them.
"Harry it's climbing up the wall," Lex exclaimed in horror.
"I know," Harry said calmly watching as the dinosaur climbed higher up the wall.
"What are you waiting for use your stick!" Lex demanded as the tip of the creature's snout came into view at the bottom of the window.
Harry ignored her as he pulled her back away from the window when its head started to come into view.
Harry raised his wand and waited with the spell on his lips as the Baryonyx's claws tried to find purchase in the stone floor of the infirmary before bellowing, "FLIPPENDO!"
All four occupants watched as the jet of blue light hit the dinosaur square in the chest, sending the Baryonyx tumbling through the air a third time. This time the dinosaur was flung much further causing it to crash into a chainlink fence flattening the fence in the process.
Harry was shocked when he saw the animal roll back onto its feet and threw its head back, letting out an enraged bellow.
"Damn," Harry muttered as he saw the dinosaur limping towards the building again, it looked like the fall had injured its left leg.
Harry gripped his wand preparing for another attack when the Baryonyx shrieked in pain and turned to the right, it took two staggering steps before it collapsed onto the ground, a steel dart sticking in the side of its neck.
"You lot alright up there?" Muldoon called from down on the lawn.
"Ye-yeah!" Harry said shakily as he watched Muldoon approaching the downed Baryonyx a strange-looking rifle in his hands.
"She should be out for about six hours," Muldoon called up as he pulled the dart out of the creature's neck.
"How did you do that, kid?" A croaky male voice asked from the other side of the room.
"Magic," Harry answered starting to wish people didn't keep seeing him use magic
"Huh, I guess the old Barebones thesis paper wasn't as ludicrous as I thought," Dr Malcom mumbled.
"The what?" Harry asked in confusion.
"In nineteen twenty-six, a man wrote a thesis paper about a series of strange occurrences taking place in New York City. Most of the incidents were centred around a family called the barebones," Dr Malcolm explained as he shakily sat up in his bed.
"That sort of rings a bell," Harry said thoughtfully.
"The author of the paper believed the incidents were caused by an unexplained force, magic. Even stranger was that he claimed most of the city was destroyed by a black fog rolling through the city yet less than two hours later all of the damage was repaired and nobody could remember anything about the incident," Malcolm explained as he reached over to his nightstand and grabbed the cup of water Ellie had left there earlier.
"Who wrote the paper?" Harry asked fascinated by the story.
"Randal Malcolm, my great grandfather," Dr Malcolm answered after taking a big drink of water.
Before Harry could ask anything else, Dr Grant and Dr Saddler entered the hospital, Dr Grant carried a very intimidating-looking shotgun and looked to be on high alert.
"Is everybody okay?" Dr Sattler asked as she surveyed the damage to the room.
"Y-yeah, I tricked it into running out the window," Harry nodded.
"Good work, that's what separates us from animals, our intelligence," Dr Grant said as he looked at the smashed window.
"Where w-were you?" Lex asked accusingly.
"We were trying to get a computer terminal set up in the emergency bunker in case we have to initiate the system shut down," Dr Grant explained as he inspected the splint on Ian's leg.
"Well the kid took care of that... whatever it was," Ian said before he took another swig from the cup of water.
"Can you walk on that leg?" Alan asked.
"If I have to," Ian answered as he carefully slid his leg off of the bed, hissing in pain.
"We need to get everyone to the bunker, we can stretcher you there if we have to," Alan offered.
"Where do we have to go?" Ian asked as he slowly got to his feet.
"The control room and then down a set of stairs," Dr Sattlervsaid as she opened one of the cabinets and found a set of crutches.
"Then let's get going," Ian said as he accepted the crutches and tenderly stood on his good leg.
"Harry get what's left of the food and put it in that shoe box, all they have in the bunker is M.R.E's," Dr Grant instructed.
Harry was surprised the cart had survived the Baryonyx attack but hastened over to load the half a dozen sandwiches, the bags of Doritos, and the four bottles of Coke from the cart and put them in the shoe box.
Harry spared one last look out the window to see Muldoon placing massive shackles on the unconscious dinosaur.
It looked like Mr Muldoon had already placed a massive muzzle over its jaws. From what Harry could tell it looked like Muldoon was planning on staking it to the ground.
"Will this night ever end," Harry muttered to himself as he followed the others out of the room hoping he could get some rest when they made it to their new accommodations.
