LAX, California, 6/27/1998, 14:49

Harry waited at the gates as his best friend was arriving today, she just like Harry had recently finished her magical education.

Harry had stepped through the doors of Ilvermony for the last time three days ago a full graduate of the MACUSA educational system.

Now he was enjoying his last summer before he had to begin the process of getting his GED. He had no idea what he wanted to do as a career but in America, even wizards had to have a basic education.

He would be taking a three-month course in September that would prepare him to take the Graduate Equivalency test. Most new graduates of Ilvermony took the course as just many of the better jobs required at least a GED.

Harry knew there wasn't such a requirement in Britain and if he had graduated from Hogwarts he could have already been starting a career in the ministry if he wanted. Though from what he heard, Britain was debating on implementing this policy as well.

Harry made it to the gate the three o' five from London would be arriving at and waited patiently for her plane to touch down.

Since his return from Isla Nublar, Harry hadn't set foot on British soil, he had stayed in touch with Hermione over the summers but hadn't heard from Ron or the Weasleys in years.

Other than Hermione and Sirius, Harry hadn't been in contact with anyone from magical Britain since he finished his second year of Hogwarts.

At first, he had been having problems getting a passport as he had no proof of who he was. He had stayed with Mr Hammond's daughter after returning from Isla Nublar as Mr Hammond tried to arrange Harry's return to England.

However, once word got out about who he was in the American Magical community, another problem prevented him from returning to his homeland.

MACUSA wanted him to become a citizen of their country and blocked his attempts to leave citing that he could not travel Internationally without a guardian's permission.

He had been enrolled in Ilvermony and been granted U.S citizenship in September of ninety-three.

Harry was very upset at first, he felt he was being held hostage by the Americans and had been reluctant to attend the American school.

That changed quickly when he found that he liked the school better than Hogwarts simply for the fact that he didn't have anyone try and kill him the entire school year!

The teachers all acted like teachers are supposed to, unlike the Hogwarts potions professor who belittled and tormented some students while favouring others.

There was also none of that pureblood garbage like he remembered in Britain either which was a welcome change. Most of the citizens of MACUSA were of muggleborn descent anyway so they could care less about blood status.

Ilvermony was like a normal school and Harry loved that, by the end of his third year he had no intention of returning to Hogwarts.

There was also the fact that while he was moderately famous here, the kids didn't stare and point at him in the halls.

Then again most people didn't recognize him immediately anyway. Strangely, his scar had almost vanished by the time he had returned from the island. That combined with him having a major growth spurt during his third year made him look much different than he had in his Hogwarts days.

Toward the end of his third year, Harry was pulled out of class by the headmistress to meet with someone. When he entered the room he found a dark-haired man with a trimmed goatee, finely cut wizards' robes, and a wide beaming smile on his face. The man had introduced himself as Sirius Black, Harry's godfather.

The tale Sirius had to tell him sounded utterly fantastical. From what the man said, he was wrongfully imprisoned for thirteen years and framed for the murder of thirteen people by the most convoluted means Harry had ever heard of.

Something inside him told Harry that the man was telling the truth and that he should trust this man.

Even more shocking was what Sirius told him happened last summer. From what Sirius explained, two hundred purebloods that were either convicted death eaters or suspected as death eaters spontaneously burst into flames on the same day that Albus Dumbledore had died from mishandling a cursed artefact.

Harry was just as shocked to learn what happened to the Dursley family though he couldn't even pretend to be upset considering they has tossed him in the ocean and left him for dead. In his opinion, what they got their comeuppance

After those two bombshells had been dropped on him, Harry and Sirius just talked about whatever was on their mind. Harry had learned that Sirius and his father were best friends all through Hogwarts and Harry had vaguely remembered seeing Sirius in his parent's wedding photo.

After getting to know the man he could understand why his dad got along with the man, Sirius was just a likeable guy.

Sirius had been granted U.S citizenship in order to care for his ward (Harry) and wanted to come and get to know him a bit. He had also brought Harry's Hogwarts school trunk containing all of his most valuable possessions which Harry was eternally grateful for.

By the time school let out for the summer, Sirius had found them a home. Harry had moved in with Sirius, the house was in Northern California and was very nice. Harry loved it as soon as he stepped through the front door. The house wasn't like a pureblood manor or anything, it was just a two-story family home with a two-car garage, and a large front yard.

Harry had visited the Murphy children all summer after his third year as they didn't live that far apart. Sirius could apparate straight there with no trouble and would take him to visit every couple of days.

Harry had noticed his feelings subtly changing towards Lex that summer but he was too shy to do much about it so they had just remained close friends.

Harry had been ecstatic when he had found a slip of parchment in his trunk with Hermione's phone number written on it and had immediately called his best friend up.

After spending ten minutes convincing her that it really was him calling, she has been blown away to learn what really happened to Harry and where he had been for the past year.

It seemed that Sirius had forgotten to mention that most of Magical Britain believed he had died in the boating accident that had killed his relatives.

The next few years seemed to fly by after that, Hermione came to visit him the summer after his fourth year, she and her parents had spent a week with them much to Harry's joy. Out of his two friends, he was always closer to Hermione though he did miss goofing off with Ron from time to time.

According to Hermione, she and Ron had a major falling out in their third year. Ron had been held back that same year without Hermione to nag him into doing his homework. Ron had blamed her for this, increasing the animosity between them and the two of them hadn't spoken for going on a year.

Harry learned that Hogwarts had hosted a frightfully dangerous tournament the previous school year and couldn't help but be grateful he wasn't there, knowing his luck, he would have been dragged right in the middle of it.

Hermione had visited him the next two summers as well, she and her parents would spend a couple of weeks in California. Hermione would usually hang out with him and Lex while her parents would explore the Napa Valley vineyards and see the sights in San Francisco (though sometimes they would drag him and Hermione along for the ride).

Lex and Hermione got along though Harry had noticed Lex got a bit clingy when Hermione was around not that Harry minded very much. The older Lex got the prettier she became so it was no imposition to have her sit a bit closer to him when Hermione was around.

Harry was brought out of his thoughts as Hermione made her way over to him smiling widely.

"Haaaaarry!" Hermione squealed happily before wrapping him in a bone-breaking hug.

"Hey, Hermione," Harry said returning the hug and noticing she seemed much shorter than the last time he had seen her.

"Where are your parents?" Harry asked.

"They couldn't come this year, there is a dental conference that they really wanted to attend," Hermione said as if the mention of the dental conference bored her.

"Alright then let's get over to the portkey terminal and get out of here," Harry grinned as he led her to the other side of the airport that doubled as an international portkey arrival and departure area.

"I had to register my wand this time," Hermione sighed as they weaved their way through the mass of people.

"I never understood why they make you do that," Harry snorted in amusement.

"Me either, so I have really big news," Hermione exclaimed as they passed through a barrier into the magical section between two drink machines.

"They looked at your NEWT scores and promoted you to the minister of magic?" Harry guessed a grin playing on his lips.

"No, I have-

"Decided all of Britain should bow before the Dark Lady Hermione?" Harry cut her off.

"No, I-

"Have decided to incite a house elf rebellion and take over Britain by nefarious means," Harry put forth having to fight not to laugh at the annoyed look she was giving him.

"No! I am going to start an internship at the ministry this September," Hermione said before Harry could make an even more ridiculous guess at her news.

"Which department?" Harry asked as the line slowly moved forward.

"The regulation and control of magical creatures," Hermione answered proudly.

"So my last guess was close," Harry grinned.

"There will be no house-elf rebellions on my watch," Hermione assured him.

"Wait isn't that Amos Diggory's department?" Harry asked a smirk playing on his lips.

"Yes, it is," Hermione answered.

"Well, it doesn't hurt that your dating the head of the department's son," Harry teased.

"No, it doesn't," Hermione agreed as they finally made it to the counter and paid the fee to use one of the local departure booths.

"Sounds like nepotism to me," Harry teased.

"Actually I think he wants me to talk Cedric into coming to work for him," Hermione said as they stepped into an empty booth.

"He still playing for the Chudley Cannons?" Harry asked.

"Yes, though there is talk of the Ballycastle Bats signing him next season," Hermione said as she took hold of the portkey.

"You know for someone who hates quidditch you certainly have a thing for Quidditch players," Harry smirked.

"They're the only wizards that strive to stay in good physical condition," Hermione rebutted as the portkey activated.

One quick portkey later and they were standing in the yard of Harry and Sirius' home. They had barely appeared before Lex stepped out of the front door beaming when she saw Hermione.

"Lex, when did you get here?" Harry asked as he leaned in and kissed her.

Harry and Lex had started seeing each other romantically last summer, after three years of dancing around each other, Harry had finally worked up the courage to ask her out. Over the past school year, he had been returning on weekends to spend time with her and was starting to think their relationship was getting serious.

"An hour ago, grandfather wants to speak to you tomorrow. He said it was urgent," Lex said looking troubled.

"What's the matter?" Harty asked in concern.

"He's getting worse, I don't think he has much longer," Lex said sadly.

"Come on inside Hermione, I'll let you get settled in," Harry said as he wrapped his arm around Lex and led them both inside.

"Same room as last year?" Hermione asked.

"Yeah but Hedwig has taken it over again so you'll be sharing," Harry chuckled as he watched Hermione leave, the smile sliding off of his face as soon as she was out of sight.

"Does your grandfather still want to send a team to that other island?" Harry asked turning to look at Lex.

"I think so, Peter managed to take control of his company from him three days ago," Lex said sounding furious.

"I never did like that man," Harry sighed.

"Me either, he's been scheming on taking over the company for years," Lex sighed.

"So what does your grandfather want with me?" Harry asked warily.

"I think he wants you to go with the team, he says you're the only one besides Robert Muldoon that could handle the bigger animals," Lex said sounding conflicted.

"I take it Muldoon turned him down? Harry questioned.

"He did, said he was happy in Kenya working with gentle beasts," Lex snorted.

"In fairness lions never tried to eat him... I don't think," Harry said reasonably.

"Doesn't matter, grandfather wants you to protect the team," Lex scowled looking very upset.

"And you don't want me to go?" Harry said in understanding.

"Of course, I don't want you to go! We barely got off of that island last time and if what grandfather said was true, then there are a lot more dinosaurs on this other island," Lex exclaimed.

"I know a lot more magic than the last time I dealt with them though, I shouldn't have a problem wrangling the rexes," Harry pointed out.

"Fine but if you go, then take Hermione with you," Lex countered.

"Take me where?" Hermione asked as she entered the living room with Hedwig perched on her shoulder.

Hedwig had just shown up at Ilvermony one day during his fourth year, she was very unhappy about Harry forcing her to make a trans-Atlantic flight but had eventually forgiven him. Lex had always been enamoured with the snowy owl and Harry was convinced Lex only wanted him to write her letters so she would get to see Hedwig.

"An island off of the West coast of Costa Rica, part of the Las Cinco Muertes island chain," Harry answered.

"Harry, Cedric is jealous enough of you without the two of us going to a deserted tropical island," Hermione snorted.

"I doubted there will be much bikini-worthy activity on this island," Lex said as the three of them took a seat on the sofa.

"Then why are we going?" Hermione asked her curiosity peaked.

"Well, what do you know about dinosaurs?" Harry asked as he prepared for a very long talk.

Black Residence, California, 6/27/1998, 20:28

A few hours later after they had all eaten supper and Lex and Hermione were having girl talk, Harry made his way out to the yard as the sun was starting to set.

Hermione had a hard time believing what Harry had told her about the island and the creatures that lived there but had agreed to accompany him there if he decided to go.

Harry made it to the spot he had chosen last fall that had a perfect view of the sun sinking into the west and drew his wand waiting for the sun to completely disappear.

"Amato animo animato delegatus animagus!" Harry exclaimed waving his wand over himself while clutching a sharp jagged tooth in his left fist so tightly it broke the skin dribbling blood droplets of blood over the tooth.

The potion was already buried under the ground he was standing on, tonight a thunderstorm was predicted and Harry could hopefully drink the potion that would induce the change for the first time.

Harry sat crosslegged on the ground and reflected on the past few years as darkness fell over the house. He had gotten a top-notch education, found s father in Sirius Black, and was dating the most wonderful girl he had ever met and could not be happier with how his life had turned out.

Harry jumped from his thoughts as lightning cracked and rain began to fall heavily more lightning flashed and thunder cracked so loud he could feel it in his bones.

Taking out his wand Harry dug up the vial of potion and beamed when he saw it was ready. Now he could add the final ingredient, the tooth clutched in his left fist.

Harry dropped the tooth in this variation of the animagus potion and watched the tooth dissolve until it completely disappeared in the blood-red potion.

"Amato animo animato delegatus animagus!" Harry cast the modified animagus spell over himself before drinking the potion in one gulp.

What he was doing here was so dangerous that he hadn't told anyone not even Sirius. As he swallowed down the thick potion he knew there was a very good chance that it could go disastrously wrong.

He had modified the animagus revealer potion so he could choose the form he wished to take. He had numerous hurdles to overcome but he believed he had worked out the alchemy for the potion.

As the potion began to squirm in his stomach he was certain that it was going to work just as he'd planned.

Changing the incantation was relatively simple as the spell was more based on intent anyway so that was no trouble at all compared to the potion work.

The potion had to stew much longer than the simple revealer potion, he had finished brewing it last November but had to wait seven full months before it was ready.

Harry felt the changes overtake his body as the feeling in his stomach radiated outward. His legs grew much longer before his body was bent forward and his neck seemed o lengthen and bend back. Harry was aware that his head began to stretch as he could see a long reddish brown snout protruding from his face and his eyesight seemed to sharpen tremendously, he could see very clearly in the low light.

Throwing his head back, Harry gave an exclamation of excitement.

"Cooooooo-oooooh"

He had done it, if he did go to the island this would give him a tremendous advantage.

"What the hell!" Harry heard Sirius exclaim from the back of the house and was soon joined by a pale Lex and an alarmed-looking Hermione.

"Coooo-ooooh"

Harry said forgetting he couldn't speak in this form, his instincts told him he could.

"Th-that's a velociraptor!" Lex exclaimed as Harry made his way over to the three standing in the open sliding glass door.

"How did it get here?" Sirius demanded as he stared at Harry in shock.

Deciding he'd messed with them enough, Harry concentrated on his human form and shifted back.

"I finally completed my animagus," transformation," Harry beamed at the three shocked spectators.

"You can turn into one of those horrors," Lex exclaimed, the fear leaving her face but was quickly replaced by a look of annoyance.

"Well yeah, I just completed the transformation," Harry said happily as he stepped onto the covered porch and out of the heavy rain.

"You about scared the life out of me! Now get out of those wet clothes before you catch pneumonia or something," Lex ranted.

"That was a very unusual animagus form," Sirius said, looking at Harry suspiciously as he peeled his soaking tee shirt off.

"Yeah, but it could be pretty handy," Harry said as he went back into the house.

Harry whistled happily as he made his way to his room, he was much more confident about the possibility of going to Isla Sorna now. Harry had just gotten out of his soaked trousers when his door was thrown open rather forcefully.

Harry turned to see Lex standing in his doorway with her arms crossed over her chest.

"You are such a jerk sometimes, Potter," Lex huffed.

"What did I do?" Harry asked in confusion.

"You scared me to death when a heard a raptor call!" lex exclaimed.

"I'm sorry," Harry said softly.

"You should be," Lex said before moving forward and wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him into a deep kiss.

"Wh-what was that for?" Harry panted out when she pulled back feeling a bit light-headed.

"You look good in your underwear," Lex smirked before turning and leaving him standing there.

'I don't think I'll ever understand her,' Harry thought as he finished changing into his pajamas.

Tomorrow he would go see Mr Hammond and find out what he wanted to talk about. If Harry did end up going to the other island he would be taking Hermione so he was confident they would be able to handle anything the island threw at them.

Harry was just dozing off when the bed dipped beside him and Lex climbed under the covers and snuggled into his side.

"I couldn't sleep," Lex said in answer to his unasked question.

"You're always welcome in here," Harry said sleepily as he fell into a restful sleep feeling like all was right with the world.

THE END

AN: I am considering writing a sequel to this story as you can probably tell.

AN: the animagus thing was something I've seen before and I had multiple PM's suggesting it. I just slightly altered the procedure to become an animagus from canon so Harry could pick his form.

AN: Finally I want to think you all for your reviews, this story got a much better response than I thought it would and I couldn't be happier for how it turned out.
