After a hunt goes sideways and leaves Dean returned to his eight-year-old self, certain hidden & forgotten aspects of John Winchester went about raising his sons are revealed.

This isn't how it's supposed to be. Something is very wrong with the universe. Sam has a family, Dean hunts alone, and the brothers live their separate lives. But when an emergency sends Sam hurtling back to Dean, back to hunting, they need to learn to be brothers again if they hope to survive. As the boys race to solve the case, destiny proves it can't be changed, no matter what.

When Castiel is depleted from removing Ezekiel from Sam's body, the boys bring him back to the bunker so he can heal. When he wakes up, he realises he has, once again, let Dean down and tries to apologise but surprisingly, Dean doesn't cate as long as he's okay.
