Hello friends! I just wanted to remind everyone that their is a story leading up to this so if you haven't read One Day, you might want to check it out! I am keeping much of the original stuff from the show in this fic, but I do have to change a lot of it as well to make it fit in with the storyline, so don't expect a lot of the finchel scenes to be in here. Finally, please be patient when waiting for these chapters, while I am trying to write them in advance, I do have to go back and watch some episodes to remember what happened, so it may take me a moment to upload.
I do not own glee or any of the characters in it!
Please enjoy
Rachel Berry just knew this year was her year, she had signed up for glee club with a gold star next to her name. She felt no guilt for getting the previous glee teacher fired, how he had been touching his student had been incredibly inappropriate. The fact that he had also not given her the solo was rightfully hers had nothing to do with it.
Despite her brief doubt in the glee club, she knew that the glee club was going to be another thing that would lead her to stardom. She knew that she had needed a male lead to compliment her voice, she knew it was the ticket to bringing their glee club to fame. She had planned it all out, everything down to the very last detail. What she hadn't anticipated was for the male lead to be Finn. Finn Hudson. THE Finn Hudson. Finn Hudson who was the quarterback who was dating the captain of the Cheerios. Who was the captain of the Cheerios? Quinn Fabrey.
The same Quinn Fabrey who, for eight years, promised she was going to marry her one day. Quinn Fabrey who had broken up with her almost two years ago. The head cheerleader had become someone completely foreign to Rachel.
No longer was she the sweet, charming girl who had shared her first kiss with Rachel, no, now she had taken on the title of "Head Bitch" at Lima High. She would verbally destroy those she saw beneath her in the hallways and had taken up the habit of throwing slushies in many of her peers' faces and it seemed her favorite target was Rachel.
Rachel shook her head and approached Finn, she couldn't be thinking about all of this right now, she needed to be thinking about how to save the Glee club. She stood behind his locker and waited for him to notice her. He was so aloof that it took him closing the locker to jump in surprise at the sight of her. She mentally sighed, "This is who Quinn's dating?"
She didn't let him get a word in before she spoke, he was a nice guy, but every time she saw him it made her think of his lips on Quinn's and the four months she had apparently been dating him for. "I didn't see you at Glee Club today."
He seemed to be carefully thinking about his response as the words came out, "Is that still happening?"
She quickly assured him that she had taken over the glee club and planned to continue when a voice came from next to her.
"Hi, Finn!"
Rachel turned to see Quinn and Santana looking at her. She let her face fall as her ex girlfriend addressed her, "RuPaul."
That was all she said to her, since the break up she barely spoke to Rachel, unless she was calling her some name or taunting her. The only part of her that Rachel recognized was her face and even then her nose was different. Though it was cute, she had to admit that.
"What are you doing talking to her?" Quinn sneered at her boyfriend. Rachel felt her stomach clench, what had she done to make Quinn hate her so much. She had kept the fact that they had dated a secret and clearly none of the "Holy Trinity" had told either. All she had done was try to stay out of her way.
Finn looked to Rachel for help and she couldn't bear to turn her eyes on Quinn. Quickly she came up with the shortest explanation she could, "Science project, we're partners."
She heard Quinn mention something about the Christ Crusaders meeting at her house, but Rachel was too busy trying to pretend she wasn't there so that standing so close to Quinn wouldn't feel as bad. Finally, the blond walked away and Rachel felt like she could finally breathe again. Finn mentioning that he couldn't do Glee anymore brought her mind back from the painful spot in her brain where Quinn had sat since their break up. "This is about your reputation? You've really got something and you're throwing it away." They were both silent for a moment.
She thought for a moment and finally spoke again. "You can't keep worrying about what people say."
After that she had left him. She walked to her locker and started to rearrange her books to grab the ones she needed for her next class when a piece of folded paper with the letter R on it, fell onto the linoleum. Rachel bent down to pick up the note, but another hand picked it up first. The two girls stood straight up and Rachel thought she might vomit from how hard her stomach was squeezing itself.
Quinn held the note up in two fingers, her lips pursed, almost in amusement.
Rachel tried to make a grab for it, but Quinn pulled it away before holding it up again. "Give it back, Quinn." She hated the way it had almost come out in a whimper, as if even the breath that left her missed the other girl.
Quinn narrowed her eyes, she opened the note and looked it over before scoffing and rolling her eyes. "You've got to be kidding me."
Rachel made another grab for the note, again Quinn swiped it out of her reach. She shook her head and closed the note up again. Her hard hazel eyes met Rachels, "Listen up, you are going to stay away from Finn and you are going to keep your man hands out of my relationship, got it?"
Rachel stared at her shoes and hated the way she meekly nodded. She didn't expect the feeling of Quinn's shoulder on hers or the way it made her skin tingle. She looked to the side to see Quinn placing the note back inside her locker and stalking off without another look in her direction.
Rachel whipped around and grabbed the note to inspect it, looking for any damage. It was the last bit of proof that Quinn had promised to marry her one day. A note Quinn had written to her when they were younger. Though it was clear that wasn't going to ever happen, Rachel just couldn't let it go.
It was later, when Finn had come into the Glee meeting with Artie and she found out that he had pulled the boy out of the porta potty and he had given a huge speech about how they could all do some huge part in glee club, that Rachel remembered agreeing to stay away from the boy. When they sang "Don't stop believing" and she noticed Quinn hidden with Sue and Santana, she felt a thrill, she felt herself give her all to her performance. She knew then that Quinn may not be hers, but Quinn made her perform at her best. If she was coming to the performances for Finn, then Finn would have to stay in the Glee club and that meant becoming friends with him.
