Chazz-anova
Somewhere in Chazz's unconscious mind, the black clad Slifer could hear a soft feminine voice calling out to him. "Chazz… Chazz… Wake up Chazz. It's Alexis. I wanna tell you how much you mean to me, how much I love you. Wake up… wake up…"
As his consciousness began to return to him, he heard a very different, but still familiar voice calling out to him. "Wake up, wake up. Boss, wake up!" His eyes blinked open and he found himself lying down on the rooftop of the main building, and the spirit of Ojama Yellow floating above his head. "What's wrong with ya Chazz? You look happy! Tell me, who ya dreaming of, Romeo?"
'My new love…' he thought to himself.
Jaden, Syrus and Chumley were walking through the courtyard down below. Hundreds of students from all three dorms were crowded on both sides of the walkway, cheering for Jaden and the end of the Shadow Riders.
"Way to go, Jaden!"
"Totally! Way to stick it to those Shadow Riders!"
"Well thank you," Jaden said, smiling and waving to the crowd. "Of course, I can't take all the credit. Jeremy's not here, but I'll be signing autographs for you later!"
"Where is Jeremy anyway?" Syrus wondered.
"I think him and Christine wanted to spend some time together, just the two of them," Chumley answered. "After what happened, I can't say I blame them."
"Lucky guy… Beats the bad guy, saves the world and gets the girl."
Chumley looked at Jaden, still smiling at all the attention and waving at everyone. "I mean, Jaden's only got two out of three and he seems pretty happy."
"More like he wouldn't even notice if a girl was into him."
"… Yeah, good point."
In a quiet little clearing in the woods, Jeremy and Christine were sitting on a picnic blanket with a basket of goodies Christine had gotten from the Obelisk Blue cafeteria. "Oh man…" Jeremy spoke through a large mouthful of food. "I ffill can't… gerover… ow good… Obeliff food ivv." Looking at his girlfriend, he saw her staring back with a flat expression. With a sheepish smile, he closed his mouth, chewed for a bit, then swallowed. "Sorry, bad habits."
"Yeah, I noticed," she said cooly, taking a sip from a bottle of lemonade.
Jeremy tilted his head a little as he looked at her. "Hey… are you alright? I'm sorry you got drawn into a trap because I lost my PDA."
"It's not that… well, maybe a little bit."
"What is it then?" he asked, brow furrowed with concern.
"It's just… Karina, the Gravekeepers, and now Shadow Rider Professor Banner… I don't like feeling like some helpless lady who needs to be rescued."
Jeremy suddenly leaned in and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Hey… you know I don't see you as a lady, right?"
"Umm… what?"
"In distress. I meant lady in distress," he hastily corrected himself. "Because I totally see you as a lady. Very feminine and classy and all that."
"… Go on…"
"Anyway, I'm just saying, you're not just some lady in distress. You're Christine Kaiba, you're tough, you're smart, if I'm being honest you're probably the one who wears the pants in this relationship…" Jeremy looked down at her legs for a second. "… even if you technically wear a skirt, and you're also a great duelist."
Christine considered his words for a moment, then hugged him back. "You know… you may stick your foot in your mouth sometimes, but in your own way, you usually manage to say the right words. Thanks Jeremy."
"Aww. You're welcome."
"Now let go of me."
"Huh? What?"
"I can't reach your lips when you're holding me like this."
Jeremy immediately complied.
Up in his resting spot, Chazz slumped back down and let out a loud breath. "What's up with Chazz?" Ojama Black asked his brothers.
"You won't believe it," Ojama Yellow said. "The boss thinks he's in love."
"He's in love!?" Ojama Green exclaimed.
"That's right. So I won't have any more time for you guys." The three Ojamas gasped in surprise at this statement. Chazz sat up and pulled out his cards, and then a gust of wind blew them all away, with the three spirits getting carried away as well. "She has my heart now." Chazz sighed.
"Alexis… I know she feels the same way. It wasn't just a dream. When Alexis and I were trapped in that weird vortex, I felt her heart. There… in the blackness of space, the eternity of time, her soul told me she loved me! That we were destined to be together." Chazz paused for a moment at this. "Ok, maybe it didn't exactly tell me, but it was in the air! I felt it! We belong together! But who does she spend most of her time with? Jaden! No way that slacker deserves a girl like her. He wouldn't even know how to treat her like a lady, the way she deserves. And then there's Zane too. Man, so much competition… this might be tough…"
Over at the docks, the unwitting object of Chazz's affections was hanging out with Zane, looking out at the ocean waves. "I'm glad you're okay, Alexis," Zane spoke up.
"Okay?" She said, incredulous. "I was taken hostage… again… this time by some clone of who I thought was our professor."
"Yeah… but you have to admit, things like that… aren't really that rare around here, are they?"
Alexis nodded her head in acknowledgement. "Unfortunately, I can't deny that. Still, not exactly what I expected when I first got here."
"I don't think anyone would've expected all this." The two remained quiet for a moment until Zane spoke up again. "Ever thought of hiring a bodyguard?"
"Why? You offering?"
Zane gave her a small smile and shrugged his shoulders a little.
"Thanks, but no thanks. Despite recent events, I can take care of myself. Still… it's nice to know you care."
"Lexy… I'll miss you once I graduate from here." Alexis looked down at the reminder that she'd be missing a friend soon. Seeing her change in expression, Zane scrambled to change the subject. "So, uh… it looks like your brother's back to being his normal self again."
Alexis let out a little snort of laughter at this. "Yeah, if you can even call it normal…"
'How can I get her to notice me?'
Sometime later, Chazz was sitting on the beach, moping about his chances with Alexis. Some other students were hanging around a snack shack dressed in swim suits. Lyna and Julianne were sitting at a table together, both Ra girls wearing modest one piece suits, while at the next table over, Jasmine and Mindy were wearing more revealing bikinis.
"Cowabunga!"
"Wooo!"
Chazz raised his head at this and looked out at the water. Up on the waves, he could see two figures surfing, one blond and wearing green trunks, the other brunette and wearing a dark wetsuit. As the blond jumped a wave and stuck the landing, Chazz recognized him as the ex-Shadow Rider Sean. "Oh yeah, Sean's half Hawaiian" Chazz muttered to himself as he recalled going over the list of missing students. "Makes sense he'd be a good surfer. Who's the other guy?" As Chazz watched with half minded interest, the brunette decided to replicate Sean's feat and landed smoothly. The two surfers then rode the wave parallel to each other, coming in close enough for a high five. "Wait… that's Alexis brother, Atticus," Chazz realized. "That's it! He'll help me."
As Sean and Atticus were riding the wave, the latter spotted Chazz watching them and called out to him. "Hang ten, Chazz dude!"
Jasmine and Mindy suddenly ran by Chazz, squealing with excitement as Sean and Atticus landed on the beach. Atticus smirked and nudged his fellow surfer, who got nervous at the sight of the approaching girls. Sean muttered something that only Atticus could hear and knelt down, apparently to check on his board, though his red cheeks and the way Atticus laughed suggested otherwise. Despite this, Atticus confidently strode forward to greet Jasmine and Mindy, sticking his board in the sand and giving them a charming smile. "Hello ladies. What can I do for you?"
"Autograph, please?" Jasmine asked, handing him a pen and pad of paper.
"No prob," he replied, taking the pen and paper and writing something down before he handed it back. "Here you go."
"He wrote BFF!" The girls exclaimed excitedly.
"That's right ladies," Atticus said smoothly. "It means best friends.. forever." Jasmine and Mindy practically had hearts in their eyes, then sighed in happiness and fell over. Atticus smirked in amusement. "That always seems to happen."
Over at their table, Lyna looked over at Julianne as they watched the spectacle unfold. "I know Jasmine and Mindy can be a little…"
"Boy crazy?" Julianne offered.
"Yeah. But still… he's smooth."
"You're right about that. If I wasn't busy chasing Brian I might be tempted to have a go at him."
Lyna merely smiled and shook her head at her friend's behaviour.
Meantine, Chazz stared at Atticus with eyes wide open. 'This guy's a chick magnet,' he thought to himself. 'And he's Alexis' brother. This is perfect!' Shaking off his surprise, Chazz got up and kneeled in front of Atticus. "Atticus, you gotta help me," he pleaded. "Please!"
"Umm… okay."
"Hey, what's going on?" Sean piped up, having apparently finished 'checking his board'.
"I dunno man," Atticus replied. "But I guess Chazz is having some troubles."
"Lady troubles?" The blond boy guessed.
"What makes you say that?" Chazz said defensively.
"In my experience, teenage guys sitting alone moping… usually there's teenage girls involved in there somewhere," Sean explained. "And, well, no offence, but you look like heartbreak."
"Aha, so Chazz is feeling lovesick," Atticus realized. "Did the girl you like turn you down?"
Chazz looked down and muttered a few words under his breath, then looked up at them. "Not…exactly."
"Come on, Chazz. Dr Atticus is in the house. Tell me all about your problems." Atticus and Sean sat down in the sand with Chazz, who explained his situation to them. "So Chazz… You want a date with my sister, huh? Well keep dreaming." Chazz's face fell at this. "Just kidding. Chazz, if you want to date her, you've gotta impress her." Chazz and Sean looked at the older boy with curiosity, waiting to hear more. "Yeah… And your best bet is by dueling her."
"A duel?" Chazz asked.
"Hey, she loves dueling. And if you beat her, she'll be all yours."
"Um, Atticus…" Sean butt in. "Didn't Alexis beat some French gambler a few days ago who was basically trying to do the same thing?"
"Eh, that's true, but trust me, all Chazz has to do is let his cards tell her just what he's feeling."
The two surfers looked at Chazz, who looked down at the sand. "I… ditched my cards," he confessed.
"Guess again!" Chazz looked up at the sound of Ojama Yellow's voice and saw him and his brothers floating towards him, accompanied by Pharaoh, who was carrying Chazz's cards in his mouth. "We put your deck back together, boss!"
"I put it together, knucklehead!" Ojama Black insisted.
Chazz reached down to Pharaoh and accepted his cards. "My deck… Thanks… I guess."
"Yeah, now we're talking," Atticus exclaimed, taking Chazz's cards and looking through them. "No, no, no, this is not cool at all."
"Huh, what's wrong?" Chazz asked.
"Chazz my man… you need some love cards."
"Love… cards?"
"Guys?" Sean piped up again. "I don't mean to be a buzz kill, and I know I'm not exactly a ladies man, but couldn't Chazz just… you know, talk to her?"
"Communication isn't just about what you say, but how you say it. Trust me, presentation is a big deal, especially when it comes to love. Now, Chazz, I can help you find the right cards, but the question is, how do we get Alexis to duel you? Hmm…"
As he considered the possibilities, Julianne and Lyna happened to walk by. "Hey guys," the older girl greeted them with a friendly smile.
"Hey Juli," Atticus returned the greeting. "Who's your friend?"
"This here's my gal pal Lyna."
The native girl gave a small wave. "Hello."
"We were just passing by and I thought I'd check on my fellow ex-shadow riders. How are you guys?"
"No worries, I'm all good," Atticus said with a smile.
"Same here," Sean added.
Julianne gave them a thumbs up. "Cool. I'll just leave you guys to, um… what are you guys doing anyway?"
"We're helping out Chazz here…" Atticus said, throwing an arm over his shoulders. "… with some lady troubles. Actually… do either of you play any instruments?"
"Eh, nothing too complicated," Julianne replied, shrugging her shoulders.
"I'm pretty good with the flute," Lyna offered.
"Perfect. So, I have an idea…"
Late that evening, Chancellor Sheppard was in his office, putting documents away in his briefcase when something caused him to perk up. "Who's there?" he asked, looking around.
Nothing.
"I could've sworn that I heard something." Brow furrowed in suspicion, he opened a drawer in his desk and pulled out a small case and set it on his desk. Opening it up, he let out a sigh of relief upon seeing that all the spirit keys were inside. 'Still there,' he thought to himself. 'Although, if what that last Shadow Rider told Jaden and Jeremy is true, there's still another threat out there. A little extra caution couldn't hurt.'
Closing the case, he walked over to a small potted tree and pulled it up, placed the case in the bottom of the pot, and put the tree back on top. Apparently satisfied with the spirit keys' new hiding place, he grabbed his briefcase and walked to the door, turning off the lights before leaving.
A moment later, the side door to his office opened up and Chazz crept in, taking care to walk slowly and make as little noise as possible. Just as he came up to Sheppard's desk, two dark figures dropped down from the ceiling, catching him by surprise. "Aa-!" One of the figures quickly put a hand over his mouth. He quickly realized it was Atticus in a dark ninja suit, and the other one was Sean, also dressed in black.
"You're late," Atticus whispered, then let him go when he calmed down.
"I just want to check one last time," Sean spoke quietly. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Positive. Now let's do this…"
Next morning
"THE SPIRIT KEYS ARE MISSING!"
After Sheppard got over the shock of seeing the empty case, he realized that someone had left a note in their place. "What… a confession?" He muttered a few words under his breath as he quickly read the note. "From Chazz!?"
Having received the message from Sheppard explaining the situation, the key-keepers (past and present), along with Syrus and Chumley, gathered together and ran to where the note said Chazz would be waiting. After running a long ways, they found Chazz standing on a little strip of beach near the forest. His had his duel disk and deck at the ready, and all ten spirit keys were hanging around his neck. "So, Chazz really has the keys?" Syrus said as they all stopped to catch their breath.
"Jokes over," Alexis declared firmly. "Give us the keys, Chazz."
"Not yet," he replied.
"Oooookay. So… when?"
"When you… and I… duel. So let's go Alexis!"
The key keepers and friends (even Zane) stared in surprise at this.
"Huh?"
"What?"
"Um…"
"Why do you want to duel Alexis?" Jaden asked. "And why go through all this?"
"Because I'm in love! Got it!? And Alexis is too. She just doesn't know it yet, but soon she will."
Jeremy gave Alexis a questioning look. "Jeez, Lex, what is it with you attracting all the weirdoes?" The blond girl's expression suggested that she was not amused by his comment, especially when she punched him in the shoulder. "Um, ouch."
"Foot in mouth, Jeremy," Christine reminded him.
"Honestly," Alexis said, turning her attention back to Chazz. "Why on earth would you think that would work?"
"Because I told him so." Everyone looked in the direction of Atticus' voice and saw him walk out from behind a tree, wearing a red Hawaiian shirt and playing a ukulele. Coming up behind him was Lyna, wearing a dress, with flowers in her hair and playing a soft tune on the flute. Julianne came out next, dressed in a similar manner, while shaking a pair of maracas. Completing the ensemble was Sean, wearing a red shirt and holding a heart shaped poster with the message:
Chazz
X
Alexis
"And… how would you know?" Zane asked.
"Because I know her. And dear little sis needs a helping hand with her love life."
Erik stared at the two Ra girls and Sean. "… How did you all get dragged into this hair brained scheme?"
"Atticus asked us to help him out," Sean explained.
"And… you all went along with it?" Alexis asked, incredulous.
Lyna paused in her playing to look at her cohorts for a moment and shrugged her shoulders. "I mean, he promised that no one would get hurt, and we're not actually trying to open the spirit gates or anything. Plus, your brother can be… very convincing."
"Yeah," Julianne agreed. "If the whole match maker thing doesn't work out, he's got a bright future in public speaking."
"Thank you, ladies," Atticus said with a smile, before turning his attention back to Alexis. "So come on, sis. He stole the spirit keys just for you."
"And that's… romance?" Syrus questioned. "News to me."
"I don't know much about romance," Jaden admitted. "But this is nuts!"
Alexis sighed. 'At times like this, I wish he was back in a coma.'
Zane rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Anyone up for just tackling him and taking the keys back?"
"Not a bad thought," Jaden said.
"I'm in," Jeremy agreed, cracking his knuckles. "Let's knock him out."
"What's the hold up!?" Chazz demanded.
"Fine, I'll duel!" Alexis exclaimed in exasperation. "Whatever."
"Yeah, you got 'er now, Chazz!" Atticus exclaimed.
"Wait…" Lyna said, lowering her flute again. "That actually worked?"
"I guess so," Sean muttered, blinking in surprise.
"One thing…" Alexis spoke up. "Even if I lose, the keys go back."
"Alright," Chazz agreed. "But then I get something to take their place: You as a girlfriend." Jeremy, Jaden and the others stared with eyes wide open, though Chazz went on regardless. "Then we can hold hands, take walks, write notes. That's the deal!"
"Fine, that's the deal!" Alexis said, activating her duel disk. "But it's not gonna happen! Now let's do this, Chazz!"
"I will," Chazz replied, activating his own duel disk. "And I'll show you… that you love me!"
"Let's duel!" "Let's duel!"
Chazz: 4000
Alexis: 4000
"All the weirdness that's happened on this island, and I'm still surprised," Christine muttered under her breath.
"Here goes!" Chazz declared, drawing his sixth card. "Alright, I'll start with Ojama Yellow."
The short, yellow monster appeared on the field, doing a little dance. (2/0/1000) "Hi there! Boss thinks you're cute!"
"Then I'll place two face-downs and play the spell card Love Letter. And here's how it works. First off, if I got a face-down and a monster sitting on my field, you get a gift. You see, either my monster or my face-down become yours. Aren't I sweet? Yeah, I know it, and that's just the first of lotsa gifts you'll be getting from me. The Chazz knows how to treat his lady."
"I'm not your lady, Chazz!" Alexis exclaimed. "But if I have to take your gift, fine. I'll take one of your face-downs."
'Perfect,' Chazz thought to himself. 'Everything is going according to the plan. Atticus was right, dueling can be just like old fashioned courting. After all, her accepting my face-down card is just like her accepting a valentine from me. A valentine I probably would've been too scared to deliver in real life. But with Atticus' help…'
Chazz's Imagination…
Chazz saw himself hiding behind a tree, watching imaginary Alexis from afar. As she walked past, imaginary Atticus clapped him on the shoulder and pointed into the air. 'Onwards and upwards, Chazz. If you can't charm her, duel her.'
'Okay.'
Imaginary Atticus winked and gave imaginary Chazz a thumbs up. 'Go!'
Emboldened by imaginary Atticus' encouragement, imaginary Chazz ran out to deliver the valentine, causing a blush to appear on imaginary Alexis' cheeks as she accepted it.
Real Life…
One of Chazz's face-downs vanished from his side of the field and appeared in front of Alexis. "But there's more," Chazz declared. "Next I play the spell card Giant Trunade. What it does is bring all spells and traps back to our hands. I'll take that face-down back now."
Chazz's Imagination…
Imaginary Chazz and Alexis were joyfully running towards each other in the woods, with the imaginary blond girl holding up a letter with a heart stamp. 'Chazzy! From me to you!'
A gust of wind blew the letter out of her hand, and imaginary Chazz jumped up to catch it.
Real Life…
"That's so sweet of you to give this back to me so soon," Chazz said, holding up a spell card that showed a shy boy looking at a beautiful girl who had her back to him. "And now I think I'll play it. Hidden Wish."
Atticus smiled nodded, strumming the ukulele while Julianne shook her maracas.
"When Hidden Wish returns from my opponent's field back to me, it deals 1000 points of damage to you, and I gain 1000 points."
Chazz: 4000-5000
Alexis: 4000-3000
"So I guess I should say: 'Thanks darling'. I just knew that us dueling would bring us closer. Are you feeling the sparks?"
Alexis made a grimace at the way Chazz looked at her.
"I'm feeling nauseous," Syrus moaned.
"Me too," Chumley added.
Jeremy mimed vomiting.
"And now I'll activate my other face-down," Chazz continued, ignoring them. "The card known as Treasure Map. Once I send it to the graveyard, I get to draw two more cards. I'll lay them face-down and end my turn."
"Alright Chazz, let's go!" Alexis declared, irritated. "I summon Blade Skater in attack mode!" The purple skater woman appeared on the Obelisk girl's field. (4/1400/1500) "Now take out that Ojama Yellow! Whirlwind Slasher!" Alexis' warrior spun around rapidly as she rushed at Ojama Yellow, who had a panicked look on his face.
"Boss! Help!"
"Ah, don't worry. Go, Ring of Destruction!" A belt of bombs was launched from Chazz's trap card, attacking itself to Blade Skater and detonating. "Now we both get hit for damage equal to your Blade Skater's attack points."
Chazz: 5000-3600
Alexis: 3000-1600
"Like a couple."
Atticus sighed as he strummed a few cords. "That's so romantic. After all, what's love without pain? Nice work, Don Juan." The brunette gave Chazz a thumbs up.
Chazz returned the gesture. "You know it, Atticus."
"And you feel the love!" Atticus called out, pointing at Alexis.
"Puh-lease," Alexis said, looking away.
"Then maybe this will work," Chazz spoke, drawing his next card. "I play Graceful Charity. Now I draw three new cards and discard two cards from my hand. Oh, and here's Pot of Greed. Looks like I get two more. Now I play my face-down, Ojama Trio. Now three Ojama Tokens crash your field in defense mode." The three Ojama brothers appeared on Alexis' field, shaking their butts at her. (2/0/1000) x3 "And if one of them gets wiped out, you lose 300 points. It's so great to share."
Alexis frowned, annoyed by the presence of the Ojama tokens.
"Next I'll play my spell card Polymerization. Let's go guys." Ojama Black and Green appeared next to Ojama Yellow on Chazz's field. "Ojama Black, Ojama Green, and Ojama Yellow, fuse together to form Ojama King." A fusion portal appeared above the field, sucking in Chazz's monsters, then spitting out the oversized round, white monster.
"Ojama!" (6/0/3000)
"And thanks to Ojama King's special ability, up to three of your empty monster card zones are reclassified as occupied." A mini Ojama King appeared above Alexis' duel disk, stamping her two empty monster card zones with a red marker.
'No!' Alexis thought to herself. 'Now I've got no room to play any new monster cards. I'll be completely defenceless.'
"Wow, nice move, Chazz," Sean commented.
"Thanks, I know. Next I'll throw a face-down and end my turn. So tell me, are you feeling the fuzzies yet? After all, I've filled up your field to show how my heart is full of love. Right?"
"He is so gone," Syrus said.
"I suppose it's… sort of romantic," Bastion remarked, earning surprised looks from the others. "In it's own very unique way."
Alexis stared at her cards, including Cyber Prima, trying to think about what she could do. 'If I could get her on the field, I might have a chance, but I can't even sacrifice those Ojama freaks to summon her.' "Yes!" She exclaimed as she drew her next card. "I think I got it!"
"Huh? Got what?" Atticus wondered.
'This little move should throw Chazz-anova for a loop.' "I'm laying a face-down, and that's it."
"Fine! My turn! I play a little card I like to call Dress Up. The new duds give Ojama King an extra 300 attack points."
A sleek white tuxedo appeared on Ojama King's Body. (6/0-300/3000) "Thanks for the threads!"
"And it's got another bonus. I get to switch one of your monsters to attack mode. Another gift for you."
"But… all of her monsters have no attack points," Syrus pointed out.
"No joke," Jaden said. "And it gets worse. If Chazz attacks, she'll lose 300 life-points for the attack, and another 300 points for taking out one of the tokens. Plus, if Chazz destroys all three Ojamas like this, she'll lose 1800 points."
"You got that right. That means she'll lose the duel," Chazz said. "And I'll win a girlfriend."
'Me and Chazz a couple?' Alexis thought to herself. 'Ugh, I think I'm gonna be sick. I better do something about this, and fast!'
"Let's see here…" Chazz wondered out loud. "On one hand I could win this duel right now, and win a girlfriend. But what would Chazz having a girlfriend mean if she wasn't really madly in love with me?"
"It'd mean someone's desperate," Christine muttered under her breath, receiving murmurs of agreement from the others.
"So then… he's not gonna attack Ojama Yellow?" Jaden wondered.
"That's right!" Chazz declared. "I attack Ojama Black!"
Ojama King jumped high into the air and came down towards the Ojama Black token. "Look out below! Here I come!"
"Chowderhead!" Ojama Black leapt up, head butting Ojama King in the stomach.
Chazz: 3600-2900
"See what a sweet guy I am? But there's more: Since I just took damage, I can play Dramatic Crossroads. It's decision time. Now pay attention. Option one, you discard one random card. Option number two, you show your entire hand to me, and then I'm allowed to take one of your cards for myself."
"But… why would she do that?" Syrus asked, visibly confused.
"Because, if Alexis really loves me, then she'll trust me, and let me see her hand. She'll give me her very best card as proof of our love. Then she and I will live happily ever after! Now make your choice, Lexy dear."
"Please, someone call an insane asylum," Jeremy spoke up, shaking his head. "Chazz really has lost his mind."
"Agreed," Erik said.
Alexis sighed. "Okay Chazz, listen up. I'm not going to show you my hand. You got it?"
"WHAT!? I'm shot down!?" Chazz fell over in surprise.
Lyna looked at Chazz's prone form and leaned in to whisper to Julianne and Sean. "I'm starting to feel like this isn't gonna work out the way Atticus was hoping."
Julianne shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe, but where else could you find entertainment like this?"
Sean dropped his poster on the sand. "Beats the kind of drama you can find on tv, that's for sure."
Alexis shook her head at his behaviour. "Listen… you wanna know who I love? I'm in love with dueling."
"Ouch, Chazz," Atticus said as he ran over to check on the black clad Slifer. "Crash and burn, dude."
"Yeah, so what!?" Chazz exclaimed, jumping to his feet. "Don't forget, if I win this, you'll still be mine!"
"Chazz, dude… now might be the time to give up on this," Atticus advised him. "Before you fall even further behind."
"I'd go out with you boss," Ojama Yellow spirit said as he appeared on Chazz's shoulder.
Chazz casually batted the duel spirit away and stared at Alexis. "If you won't love me… then I'll defeat you, and you'll have to go out with me."
'Then I simply can't let him defeat me,' Alexis thought, shuffling her cards and holding them so should couldn't see which was which. 'I just hope I don't discard the one monster that could get me out of this mess.' With some hesitation, she picked one card, which turned out to be Cyber Tutu. Sighing in relief, she placed it in her graveyard, then took her turn. "Alright Chazz… If you really want a wedding, here's your one chance. I play the spell Ritual Sanctuary!" A large white church appeared all around them, with rows of pews, a long red carpet leading to the altar and the sounds of a church bell ringing. "Now by discarding a spell card, I'm able to add any ritual spell card from my deck to my hand. And now I'll play it! Machine Angel Ritual!" The church's interior then took on a silvery metallic hue.
"What the…?" Chazz exclaimed, shielding his eyes as a bright red light glowed from the ceiling.
"Now I can summon any monster with Cyber Angel in its name."
"No way! Thanks to those Ojama tokens, you've got no monster zones. And you can't get rid of them either."
"Oh yes I can. This is a ritual summoning."
"So what?" Chazz asked. "What's that got to do with anything?"
"Everything. Because that no sacrifice rule… doesn't apply to ritual summonings. And the monster I'm ritual summoning calls for me to sacrifice all three Ojamas. Plus, since they're not being destroyed, I don't lose any life-points." The three Ojamas vanished in a flash of light. "But you sure are going to, Chazz. Come on out Cyber Angel Benten!" The fan wielding Cyber Angel descended onto the field from the light in the ceiling. (6/1800/1500) "Cyber Angel Benten… attack his king! Angel Light Flurry!" Benten dashed across the field and struck Ojama King with her fans several times before finally destroying him.
Chazz: 2700-1400
"Now for Cyber Angel's special effect… you take damage equal to the defense points of the monster that was destroyed in battle. I'm sorry, Chazzy."
"That can't be…" Chazz protested. "That would leave the Chazz with… nothing…"
Chazz: 1400-0
The holograms faded away and Chazz fell to his knees. "She beat me… My darling beat me. So much for true love… Which is fine…" Chazz stood up and thrust an arm into the air. "Cause the Chazz always rides alone."
The others stared at him for a moment, and then he dropped to his knees again and began crying.
"… we can still knock him out, right?" Jeremy piped up.
"I dunno…" Christine said. "It seems kind of sad at this point," Christine remarked.
"Alexis!" Atticus exclaimed, crying as well. "At least you could've let him down gently."
Julianne looked at her fellow conspirators. "Well, this was fun. Right guys?"
"I guess it was," Sean agreed.
"Surprisingly, yeah," Lyna added. "Go Alexis."
Alexis walked over to Chazz and gave him a friendly smile. "Look, Chazz, despite everything, I'd still like to be friends."
Chazz's tears stopped for a second. "Really?"
Alexis nodded.
"Thank you." And then he began crying again.
Suddenly the whole island began shaking and everyone did their best to stay on their feet. "What Banner warned us about…" Jaden spoke up.
"It's here," Jeremy finished for him.
Thanks for reading, please review, and I'll see you all next time (the finale approaches).
Might take me a bit longer, since I still have to write out the next duel.
Note:
I borrowed the idea of Atticus asking for help with his match making scheme from "The Duelist of Dawn", who did a similar thing (except with different characters), so thanks again. :-)
