I'm shocking at doing one-shots HA! There always has to be a little more to my stories...
I've recently gotten into 'Euphoria' and Forever by Labrinth has just been in my head, giving me life. Let it fill your head towards the end of this chapter...
She thought maybe she didn't have any tears left to cry. By the time she got home, she had cried them all out, leaving only a tear-stained face. She wrapped an arm around her as she unlocked her front door and headed straight for a steaming hot shower to wash the night away. Her head ached from the sobs, her stomach permanently fixed in a knot, the hot water slowly making it all begin to fade until she felt empty. She dressed in a satin white pyjama set and made her way back to her room, the locket still on the bed where she'd tossed it earlier.
She stared at it a second, the moonlight that streamed through her window making it shine. She picked it up gently, daring to look at the picture inside. She didn't know whether she was angry or sad anymore - she just ached all over. She clenched it in her fist before walking over to her dresser, throwing it in the bottom drawer and slamming it shut, determined to forget about it for the night.
.
A few days had passed. He hadn't come by, he hadn't called, he hadn't even messaged. Tails had asked Amy over to help him with something Eggman related, so she obliged but secretly hoped she wouldn't have to face Violet and Sonic. She dressed herself in her everyday wrap dress, thigh high socks and boots but let her hair roam free without a headband today. She sat at her dresser and swiped on a little liner and mascara before catching her reflection, trying to smile a little. She slowly strolled down the dirt path toward the garage, wrapped in a red coat to avoid the chill of the snow.
She breathed into her palms to warm them up as she stepped into the garage to find Tails, Knuckles and Sonic leaned over the kitsune's desk, staring at the computer. She refused to allow her stomach to knot and make her nauseous, so she took a deep breath and walked towards them. Attempting to pretend everything was normal. Everything is fine.
'Hey guys!' Amy smiled as she walked towards them.
'Thanks for coming!' Tails smiled at her before turning back to his computer.
'Hey, Ames-'
'So, you said there was something you wanted me to take a look at?' Amy very pointedly asked Tails, cutting Sonic off. She watched him take a big breath and brush it off.
Tails awkwardly tried to steer the conversation to Eggman and some footage he had uncovered from outside the doctor's base. They discussed what they thought their old nemesis might be planning, trying to decide if it was a genuine threat - he was losing his edge in his old age. They quickly decided they didn't need to act, simply keep an eye on ol' Egghead. It made Amy wonder why Tails needed her here in the first place. Which is when it clicked: he only asked her, Sonic and another buffer. Ie. Knuckles. He was trying to get them to talk and no matter how badly she wanted this feeling in the pit of her gut to go away, she wasn't ready to face it yet. She wasn't ready to accept he was with someone else.
'Well, if that's that, I need to get going.' Amy turned on her heel to leave.
'Uh, uh-I'
'You'll be here for New Year, right? Six o'clock?' Knuckles stepped in, cutting Sonic's rambling off.
'Sure, can't wait!'
'Hey, Ames, I-'
'See you guys then.' She smiled quickly and left, stepping back out into the snow.
She knew she was being immature, ignoring Sonic. As she walked home she felt annoyed with herself for being a little childish. After all, he wasn't hers and he never had been - he had every right to see other people. It was just... he'd never even talked about anyone else before, much less brought them home. On top of that, he'd been so... affectionate this last little while. She really thought that... no, she couldn't think about this anymore. She tried to keep walking and think of something else. Anything else. Sonic watched her walk away and wished he'd said more. But, what?
'Man, she is mad at yoouuu.' Tails sighed as he typed away on the keyboard.
'Yep. Yeah, she is.' Sonic sighed, leaning against the roller door frame.
'I mean, what did you think would happen?' Tails cocked a brow, the sass a little out of character.
'What's that supposed to mean?'
'Oh, come on,' Knuckles smirked and turned to his cobalt friend, 'you're telling me nothing has been going on between you two this past month or so?'
'I mean, maybe, but-'
'So, why bring home Violet? What's going on there?'
'Nothing!' Sonic exclaimed, a little sheepishly.
'Oh, right,' Tails laughed to himself as he continued typing, 'Christmas sure looked like nothing.'
'Look, I- I don't know. We ran into each other not long after I met her with the other campers and just, hung out. I guess it kind of escalated from there but barely and- she's so sweet and kind and I guess I just didn't know how to stop it.'
'Dude, you are beyond socially inept when it comes to women.' Knuckles laughed, Sonic merely rolling his eyes.
'Well, whatever you decide,' Tails stepped in, 'you need to fix things with Amy. This can't go on for long.'
Sonic turned away from his friends and continued to look out along the dirt path, the snow starting to layer it in a thick sleet. He let out a deep sigh, feeling an uneasy turning in his stomach. Tails was right - he had to fix things with Amy. At the absolute least, he needed them to still be friends. Although, he didn't think that was all he wanted with her...
It's New Years Eve. Amy invited all the girls over to her cottage home to get ready together, have a few drinks and laughs before going over to Sonic and Tails. If she had to endure more of the new couple, she wanted for at least some of her night to be fun and memorable. She sat in front of her dresser finishing her make-up and styling her quills. Blaze was seated on the bed, helping adjust Cream's dress as Rouge and Tikal clinked their champagne glasses and moved around to the music playing. Amy stepped into her ensuite to dress in a slinky champagne, low back slip with matching heels. She looked amazing, she felt amazing. She stared at herself in the mirror, giving herself a pep talk before the night began.
'You will not get upset tonight.' She pointed at herself, 'You will have fun and you will continue on as normal. And you will be nice to Violet - she doesn't deserve your drama.'
'Come on, Amy! Let's get going!' Tikal called out.
.
The girls all made their way upstairs and into Tails and Sonic's living room, sparklers and NYE party accessories ready for everyone. They all quickly got to mingling, passing around drinks and getting excited for the new year to come. Amy was engaged in a conversation with Knuckles and Blaze when Sonic caught sight of her - she quite literally took his breath away. She looked like a goddess. She was smiling, laughing, it made him smile. Like clockwork, she happened to turn her head and catch him looking, they locked eyes. Both their heartbeats sped up, a wave of heat and nerves overcoming them both. As if he was in a cheesy rom-com, Violet suddenly appeared at the top of the stairs, seeing Sonic and grinning widely. His eyes flicked between the two women, causing Amy to look over at Violet, her smile fading before turning back to her conversation.
'Shit, shit, shit.' Sonic's mind raced.
.
11:30PM, it's almost midnight. Everyone was feeling a little giddy and excited from the festivities and champagne; even Shadow was having a better time than usual. Amy was laughing with Cream and Tails before the two went to re-fill their drinks, Amy taking the opportunity to maybe get a little air. She made her way down to the end of the hallway, checking behind her before slipping into Sonic's unused room - knowing there was a free balcony there for a little quiet. She sat her glass on the bedside table and quietly made her way out, breathing in the cold, winter air.
'Hey.' A quiet voice came from the doorway, startling her a little.
'Oh, hey, uh-' Amy began awkwardly, 'I hope you don't mind. I was just getting a little air.'
'No, no, it's fine! I could use a little air myself.' Sonic said as he joined her outside, a silence falling over them for a moment.
'You know,' Sonic began boldly, 'that's the most you've spoken to me in a week.'
'Let's not do this tonight.' Amy sighed and walked back into the bedroom, wanting to keep her promises to herself and allow tonight to be fun.
'No, we need to. You're obviously pissed at me. Just... talk to me.'
'Not to sound cliche, but... if you don't know why, then I don't know how to help you.' Amy turned back to look at him.
'You're upset about Violet? We have never been together, Amy. Is it so bad I might be interested in someone else?'
He regret it as soon as he said it. Even more so after seeing her face fall, for only a second, before she picked it back up.
'You're right, Sonic,' She began after a few seconds silence, 'I can't be mad, because you were never mine. But I am. I'm mad at myself for thinking something would happen, that something was happening. I'm mad at you for letting me think those things. I'm mad at you for... the locket. I'm mad at you for stringing me along only to bring her here and throw her in my face!'
'I did not bring her here and throw her in your face! I met someone. We have a good time together. I brought her here. That's it!' Sonic raised his voice, stepping closer to her to get his point across.
'If you never had any interest in me then why were you being... that way...for so long?!' Amy felt the tears begin to swell in her eyes as she stepped forward to yell at him.
'I never said I didn't! I did! I do! I-'
He cut himself off when he realised what he said. All he could do was stare at her, her face hurt and confused, waiting for him to say something else. But he didn't. Things were suddenly blurry - the music from the party filled his ears. He felt his breath hitch, every note hitting sharper and sharper, the sounds of their friend's voice downing out.
Oh, I'll live forever oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll live forever oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll live forever oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll live forever oh, oh, oh, oh
It was as if he blacked out and came to when it was already happening. He could feel her tears on his lips, his hands grabbing the small of her black, clutching her champagne dress desperately. He could feel the warmth of her breath on his ear as he made his way up and down her neck. He held her back, her hips, her hair, he couldn't get enough of her fast enough. The sweet scent of her perfume made his breath stammer and his heart nearly stop beating.
oh, oh, oh, oh
oh, oh, oh, oh...
She gasped under his touch, running her fingers through his quills as he pushed them both into the nearest wall, pinning her between it and him. She couldn't speak, she couldn't think, she could barely process what was happening. All she knew was... she didn't want it to stop. Nothing and no one else existed. She could feel he was holding back and it excited her. She opened her mouth as he kissed her, allowing him to make their kiss deeper and deeper. He grabbed her hips almost painfully, barely able to restrain himself as he traced every inch of her body, fighting himself to stop from tearing her dress. It was clear that all this pent up tension and aggression was leaping forth faster than they could oblige. She tried to speak between gasps for air, but could barely bring herself to find the words.
'You're holding back... don't.' She moaned into his ear.
Her whispers made him snap, something came over him. He was hardly himself, but he couldn't hold back any longer. He lifted her up so she could wrapped her legs around him, hold him, as she was still pressed against the wall. He carried her over to the bed and lay her down before his stomach twisted with a mix of nerves and excitement. She pulled him as close to her as she could, by gripping his quills tight. He made his way down her neck with his lips, his hand ever so slowly rising up her leg, playing with the hem of her dress. They didn't say anything, but somehow they knew each other wanted this, was ok with this, knew they could be this way with no inhibitions.
His hand ran further up without even thinking, playing with the thin lace that laid beneath her dress. Amy smiled through his kisses, feeling his hands trace the lace, knowing he was trying to be delicate. The smiled was replaced by a deep moan as she felt his hands go beneath her thong, it made her stomach flip and her heart rate speed up. He used is other hand to grab the back of her neck so he could kiss her deeper. She wanted to please him the same way, so badly... but she could barely concentrate. She knew he could tell and it made him smile, a cheeky smile that made her feel completely weak. One of her hands clawed into his back, which only excited him more, while the other slowly danced around the front of his hips.
Despite the over-whelming urge to be as close to him as physically possible, she couldn't stop the intense feeling of just being more and more in love with him. She couldn't imagine ever being mad at him. She wanted to be like this forever. To touch him... for him to touch her... Just like that... He boldly began to unzip her dress, exposing the rest of her back. His fingertips made her physically tremble. It was like she was dreaming until...
'Everyone grab a sparkler!' Cream exclaimed from the living room.
'It's almost midnight! Violet added excitedly.
Suddenly, the dream was over, and they were awake. Sonic broke away, still close enough so they were looking in each others eyes. He slowly peeled away from her and stood, allowing her to sit up. They were completely thrust back into reality. A reality where everything and everyone suddenly existed again... including Violet, who was only up the hall. Their deep breaths suddenly turned into short breaths of panic. Without saying anything, Amy stood up and adjusted her lace knickers, zipped her dress back up and used her hand to wipe away her lip gloss from Sonic's lips and straighten out his quills.
'Am I ok?' She asked.
'Huh?' He asked, dazed.
'Look at me! Am I ok?!' She asked again, more firm, needing him to tell her what needed to be fixed.
'Oh! Here,' he wiped away the edges of her lips where her make up had smudged, holding his hand there just a second longer than needed, 'you're fine.'
'You go, I'll follow.' She commanded nervously.
