Despite your best efforts, all logic and sense.. your body gravitates towards the chimes which only get louder with every step you take. "Y/N.." a disgruntled voice breaths out as you spot the cause of the noise; an old broken clock hanging off the wall at the end of your hallway that was not there before.
Your vision starts to skew, as if you're on the tilt a whirl, going round and round in slow motion.
"Y/N.." the voice creeps closer, you spin on your heels to see a shadowed creature before you. Still sunken in the darkness, you're unable to make out any features.
Slowly you back up, twisting your body around as you run like you're feet are on fire into your bedroom.. slamming the door behind you in the process.
You turn around, gasping to yourself at the horrors in front of you. A nightmare you had lived once before when you were fourteen years old. When your dad took his own life and you were the one to find him.
You start to hyperventilate as you squeeze your eyes closed as tight as possible, shaking your head to rid of the terror
What about love, don't you want someone to care about you?
You hear the faint sound of music, your favourite song.. yours and Eddie's song. It's not the original song you hear though, you try to listen closer as you realize it's Eddie singing it to you.
"Tell Maxine.." the deep, raspy voice inches towards you "Her time is almost up,"
What about love? Don't let it slip away.
"No," you manage out "This isn't real." the song starts to get louder.
The chimes of the clock feel like they're radiating through your body as you violently shake your head, feeling your body get lighter as your lifted off your feet.
What about love? I only want to share it with you.
Just as you go to open your eyes, the terrifying sensation of falling causes you to scream out. THUD.
EDDIES POV.
Taking in all the new information from the other world, this Victor creel guy, what happened to Chrissy, what's still happening.. My brain felt like a ticking time bomb that was going to explode any fucking second.
Now trying to wrap my head around that the same thing was happening to Max, that music factored into it.. that there were signs before hand.
"Jesus Christ," I stand up, balling my hand into a fist and hitting the other hand as my knuckles bang together.. pacing back and forth. "Yeah," Robin simply says, the whole group quiet.. also processing.
"Um.. Y/N.." Looking over at max as her voice is drenched in concern, I look over at my girlfriend. Only the white of her eyes visible as they roll back in her head "NO!" I scream out in terror, fleeing to her side as she remains seated on the couch, I shake her by the arms.. I plead for her to answer me.
"Y/N, please.. please baby please.." I don't even care how pathetic I look right now, how the tears are streaming down my face.. I can't relive what happened to Chrissy and I can't lose the one person that I.. I just can't exist with out.
I can't even hear the commotion in the background anymore of the others scrambling on what to do, I know how this ends.. I've watched it happen. This time, If Y/N goes, I go with her. I refuse to live in this shit hole of a world with out her.
"Baby, Princess - " My voice is cracking in and out like I just hit puberty "Come back to me. If you can hear me, come back to me, please." I beg as I hold Y/Ns hands in mine.
"Song?! SONG! What's her favourite song?" The sound of Dustin's vice finally penetrates the mental wall I had put up "What?" I ask in confusion "The music, the song. What we just spoke about." Dustin scrambles for words, looking so hopped up he might combust.
"It's.." I start, now focusing more clearly "What about love by heart. The cassettes on her night stand," I speak quickly, everything coming back to me in a matter of seconds.
Dustin yells upstairs, repeating the information to Robin and Steve who were rummaging through Y/Ns bedroom. I glance over at Max whose eyes could burn holes through anyone, she was in shock.
"Jammed.. what do you mean it's jammed?" I grit my teeth in anger, going over to Steve as he hands me the cassette player. I fiddle with it, doing my best to fix it but it jams even more "FUCKING STUPID THING, PIECE OF SHIT" I yell as I smash the cassette player against the wall.
"Try singing to her - I mean you can sing," Max finally breaks her silence as I snap my fingers in agreement, turning back towards Y/N to see her being slowly raised into the air by an invisible force.
"Now, Eddie!" Robin urges, I hum the tune to myself as I watch Y/N go higher and higher in the air "What about love? Don't you want someone to care about you?" I sing surprisingly on key "What about love? Don't let it slip away." My eyes are so tear filled I can barely see, knowing what comes next.. her bones being broken one by one. "What about love? I only want to share it with you."
"Come on baby, come on.." I say to myself In hope as I watch in swift motion, like her body was cut from an invisible wire, Y/N comes crashing down on the couch. She makes a loud thud as she hits the couch at full force, slumped over and almost back in the same seated position.
Y/Ns eyes flash open as she gasps in fear. "Thank god. Thank fucking god." I whisper, wiping away at my face with the back of my hands. "Eddie," she calls out in a panic as I crouch down in front of her "I'm here," My voice is hoarse, okay so I'm still a little choked up.
"I thought I lost you," I breathe out, pulling Y/N into my arms as she clung onto me for deal life "I thought I lost you," I repeat, realizing just how close I was to losing her.. to seeing her succumb to the same fate.
"You saved me," Y/N cries into me, shaking violently as she sobs. I rub her back in circular motions, "Your singing.. our song.. saved me," she pulled back from the embrace to meet my eyes, the look on her face made my stomach sink. I had never seen her so afraid, "Always, Princess," I manage a trembling smile.
My fingers gently run through her hair, moving the stray pieces back into place.
Y/N's soft lips pressed against mine as they moved slowly together, sincere but hasty as the horror of knowing we almost lost each other was too much to bare.
I've never been sure about much in my life, nothing ever seemed constant.. satisfying or worth the effort. Why bother doing something half assed, right? So I usually wouldn't bother at all.
Y/N was the one thing my entire being, Eddie Munson; the man, the soul, (or myth and legend if I really want to boast myself) was sure about.
From the moment I first saw her when we were In middle school.. I fell, not gracefully either. More so the awkward trip snd fall scenario where you make an ass out of yourself. Guess much hasn't changed.
Or - avoid the person you're into in hopes that you will somehow send them a telepathic message that you're into them. Yeah, that was me and sometimes I look back and want to kick myself in the ass. I wasted so much time.
It should of been obvious though, anytime I saw her I would make an idiot out of myself.. I guess every pre teen was making an idiot out of themselves then, some more than others.
All I know is.. I was in love with her way before she knew it, before we were even going steady. Never thought I'd be official with anyone anyways until I saw her.
For Y/N.. I'd give anything.
Y/N'S POV.
Your eyes flash open in fear, preparing to see the creature that was stood in front of you. Prepared to know that this may be the end or you may already be dead and just not know it yet.
Eyes focusing slowly from previously being shut so tightly, you see Dustin, Max, Eddie, Robin and Steve all standing around you slack jawed and with looks of terror raining down on their faces.
"Thank god, thank fucking god." You hear Eddie whisper, "Eddie," you call out - your vision still blurred and skewed, seeing double of everyone. "I'm here," his face comes into full view, your eyes restoring as his features become clear.
His voice is barely existent, his cheeks as red as a tomato and his chocolate brown eyes glistening as tears roll down his face "I thought I lost you," He says in one breath, as if he was holding it in as he pulled me into his arms. You cling on to him like he may disappear any second.
"I thought I lost you," he repeats, the reality of what just happened setting in for everyone but it was just simmering in you. "You saved me," your throat felt so insanely dry as you spoke, still sobbing violently.
Pulling back from the embrace, you look deep into Eddie's chocolate brown eyes "You singing.. our song.. saved me." You had to tell him, you had to let him know.
There was probably a thousand things he thought he did wrong while you were "out of it", you needed him to know he did right. It worked.
Eddie's lips tremble and twitch, tears continuing to well up in his eyes "Always, Princess." He manages a fragile smile.
His hands run through your hair just like they have a million times before but after thinking you'd never feel his touch again, it felt like the first time he had ever done it. Your lips merged with Eddie's, urgent but slow all in the same beat. Letting yourself melt into the moment.
Your foreheads lean against one and others, feeling Eddie's fingers drag across your face as they wipe away the remaining tears "I hate to interrupt.." you hear Steve's voice break the silence behind Eddie.
"But what the hell just happened," his voice was gravelly, was he crying too?
"It— Vecna, didn't want me. " Eddie's now seated beside you, watching carefully as if you may vanish into thin air any second "What do you mean?" Max eye lashes flicked up and down in confusion "He wanted me to tell you," you look at Max "Your time is almost up."
Max sucks in her bottom lip, nodding to herself with her arms crossed over her chest "As if I needed the reminder —." She shook her head "So, what? Not only is he killing teens but he's messing with peoples heads too?" Robin extended her neck,Vecnas motive getting a lot more complicated.
"I saw the clock too, the one Max saw." You bow your head, hearing the distorted chimes echo in your mind "Why is this wizard obsessed with clocks?" Steve's nose scrunches "is he a clock maker or something?" A metaphorical light goes off in his head "Yeah, Wow. You really cracked the case Steve," Dustin responds sarcastically, a dead pan look on his face.
"Hey.. hey," Dustin starts cheerfully, "This means it worked. The music.. song." He was animated as he spoke, practically jumping for joy. "So all we have to do is be prepared... and get a new cassette player." Eddie hung his head to the side, you followed his gaze which landed on multiple pieces of what use to be your cassette player.
"I have one," Max thinks out loud, "It's in my locker at school," she nods confidently as her eyes trail among the group "Okay, I'll drive." Steve says, "you should all go, or at least I don't know.. maybe you guys can find out more information." You speak low, your throat still in pain.
"Are you sure because usually that's when things go bad," Dustin adds cautiously as you nod "We'll be fine," Eddie smiles at you for reassurance.
Really you just wanted some normalcy, even if it was for an hour or two. Sure, you were saved and sure Vecna wanted to send a message but what was stopping him from coming after you again? What if that was all apart of his game?
You had even less answers than when this all started and you knew something horrible was coming.
"Where are we going?" Eddie follows closely behind you as you lead him through the woods "Just wait," you ask for patience "You know, this probably isn't your best idea - you got lots of them but this one.. it's not really hitting the target," he says wearily as you spin around, almost causing him to fall on his ass.
"You're a wanted man and I am a living dead girl - we are screwed either way, my love."
You adjust the collar of his jean jacket, Eddie's lips curled upwards in a playful smile, his eyes lighting up wildly. "You speak my language," he gushes, going in for a kiss as you put your finger up to stop him "Not yet, keep walking."
Coming to the edge of the woods, you've made your way to skull rock. A popular make out destination but it was also your favourite quiet place, where you didn't have to think.. you could just exist.
It wasn't anything fancy by any means, rocks in the shape of a skull. It did have the best view of the night sky though.
You gesture your hands outwards, presenting your destination to Eddie. The sun would be setting soon and you were hoping to get a little time with him before you both had to head back.
Climbing onto one of the big boulders, Eddie extends his hand to help you up. For the first time ever, you are taller than him. You put your hands on his shoulders as he stays planted on the ground,
"Now.. that kiss, my banished king." You tease, grinning from ear to ear. Eddie does a grand gesture bow, looking up at you while still bent over "Its my honour, my princess," he starts "My queen," he quickly corrects with a raise of a brow, you nod approvingly "Better."
You hold your hand out as Eddie climbs up on the same rock you're stood upon, his arms wrap around you as your hands hold onto the sides of his neck. Your bodies pressing into each others as your mouths open slightly, feeling his hot breath against your own.
You feel his tongue slip into your mouth, the taste of cigarettes on his tongue. Something you had got use to, though you did occasionally smoke yourself.
The comforting scent of leather and cologne seeping into your nose, Eddie's cologne always had a particular and calming scent. Something you associated with home and safety, it had notes of spices, amber and wood. You couldn't quite place every scent with in it, but my god, was it ever your favourite scent.
It was like you were both kissing in slow motion, every moment thought out and at a slow pace. You didn't want to rush, you just wanted to enjoy each other.
Your entire beings were bleeding into one, even if it was just for a moment in time.
"Definitely worth the wait," Eddie breathed heavily against your lips, his thumb brushing against it as your eyes fluttered open, swallowing hard as you felt weak in the knees "I told you," you laugh breathlessly.
"Now we can say we are one of the many conforming idiots who made out at skull rock," Eddie's legs dangled over the edge of the biggest boulder that sat on top of the others, looking up to you with a twinkle in his eyes "Hardly," you laugh as you rifle through the back pack you had brought.
"Risky business to be sucking face with a criminal," he points out, teasing. "Oh as if that's new to either of us," you retort, placing your lips on his for a brief moment as you pull out two bottles of beer from your back pack.
Setting the bag down, you hand Eddie one of the beers over his shoulders. You open yours before sitting down beside him, "Besides.." you look down at your feet dangling over the edge, your eyes flashing closed for a second "It's not the first time we've kissed here," you point out, looking over at Eddie as you take a sip from your bottle.
Eddie's brows arch in confusion, mentally trying to search through his memory. "We did?" His tongue trails over his top teeth as you nod, fingers tapping against the bottle "Seventh grade.." you recount "Someone.. I don't even remember who, was throwing a party here." You try to come up with a name of the party thrower but your mind goes blank.
Eddie listens intently, "All sorts of outcasts went, I don't think I saw a single popular kid," you laugh hard, Eddie brings his bottle to his mouth "it was.. chaos," smiling at the memory, you watch as Eddie smiles too before taking a sip.
"I was standing under the rock, this rock," you point below you, "you came up to me and said.." You reflected back. Butterflies rising in your stomach "I was dared to kiss the the one girl here who I have a thing for," you repeated his words, like they were said moments ago "Then you kissed me." You tap your lips.
"You forgot the part where I dropped to my knees after and made a total fool of myself," Eddie chuckled as your jaw hung open "So you do remember," you slap his arm playfully "Oh yeah. Never lived it down. I was hoping you forgot," he looked out into the forest, the stars beginning to light up the sky.
"You also ran away after and fell on your face," you add as he nudges your side "I thought you were messing with me, some prank or something." You shrug your shoulders, you had a huge crush on him back then.. it was obvious to almost everyone.. besides Eddie apparently.
You thought for sure one of his friends dared him to make a scene, you still kind of thought that in all honesty.
"Actually.." he started off slowly, a cigarette hanging from his lips as he brought his lighter up to it "I wasn't dared." He takes a drag,
"I was drunk, yeah. Stupid, yeah." He takes the cigarette out of his mouth as he taps the butt of the cigarette, the ashes falling to the ground below "But for the first time in.. like ever. I finally had the courage to say something.. do something,"
Eddie glances over you, knowing your probably smiling like that same old middle school girl who had the biggest crush on him and now.. that crush was tenfold. "Yet we never really talked about it after," you point out in confusion
"Yeah well, I didn't have alcohol running through my veins," he pauses "And I thought I fucked it up. That you thought I was some clumsy ass loser who tried to shoot-a shot that he didn't even have."
"You had the shot," you whisper, a small smile on your face "And you're my clumsy ass loser," you coo, squishing his cheeks together.
"Y/N? Eddie?" You hear a crackling voice as both you and Eddie look around in confusion. "Hello? Pick up!" The words are drawn out as you open your back pack, pulling out the walkie talkie.
"We're here," you speak into it,
"No you're not because we are at your house and you're both no where to be found." The walkie talkie cracks louder "We're at skull rock," you say,
"If I were you guys, I'd be running back like ten minutes ago.. Jason and his friends are on the way there." Robin yells "GO. NOW!" Dustin yells through the walkie talkie even louder.
Your eyes widen as you look at Eddie, both of you scrambling to your feet and packing the bag "Here we go again," he huffs in annoyance as you two jump off the rocks and run as fast as your legs can take you.
