Chapter 6: Spock's Wife

Three weeks later, Spock woke up and heard Anna throwing up. "Anna, maybe we should see Dr. McCoy. You have not eaten anything except for Plom-ex Soup, and now you can't even hold that down. You have been like this for three days."

Spock helped Anna off the floor. He used a damp face cloth and wiped her face. Fifteen minutes later, they were dressed and meeting with Dr. McCoy in sickbay.

"Mr. and Mrs. Spock, what seems to be the problem?" McCoy asked with a raised eyebrow.

All of a sudden, Anna threw up on her husband's boots. "Right. How about you lay down on the bed, Anna, and we will check you out?" Nurse Chapel suggested.

"Can you keep any food down at all?" Dr. McCoy asked as he approached Anna.

"Some Plomeek Soup," Anna said.

"How long have you been throwing up?" McCoy asked the two of them gently.

"For about a week," Anna said.

"And you both are just coming to me now," McCoy wondered. "Why did you not come sooner?"

"I thought it was a bug?" Anna said.

"Anna, you are Vulcan. You, smarty pants, don't get sick," McCoy told her.

"Okay, Nurse Chapel, have some smelling salts ready. I am going to draw some blood and then run it. Remind me again, Spock when you two went through Pon Farr?"

"That was two months ago today, doctor, and it lasted for seven days." Spock did not like talking about Pon Farr because it was very personal for them.

Anna held out her hand. Spock took one of his hands and put it in hers. She needed to have his touch through this. Nurse Chapel came up to Dr. McCoy's side with a hypo chamber and a needle.

Meanwhile, on the Bridge:

"Where is Mr. Spock? He is never late for his shifts," Chekov said out loud.

"Commander Uhura, see if you can locate Mr. Spock," Captain Kirk said.

"Yes, Captain." Uhura ran through the program. "I found him, Captain. He is in sickbay," Uhura said with some concern on her face.

"Mr. Chekov, you have the bridge," Jim said. He went to sick bay to find out what was going on.

When Jim got to sickbay, he saw Spock helping his wife up from a bed. "I should have the results in a couple of days. Try to keep her comfortable. This should help with her stomach," McCoy said.

Jim stepped out of the way and retreated to the office. He did not think it was a good idea to be seen. After Spock and Anna were gone, Bones yelled, "You can come out now, Jim."

"You saw me," Jim said.

"Yes, and I think our friend Spock and Anna had a successful Pon Farr. I will know more in a few days," Bones told him.

"If Anna is with child, Spock will either take her back to Vulcan or Earth," Jim said.

"With that virus on Vulcan, I doubt Spock will take her to Vulcan. I have read some of the reports from Vulcan on this virus. It is pretty serious, Jim. The Vulcans can die out because of this virus."

"There is a lot of pressure on Spock and Anna right now," Jim said. Just then, Jim's communicator went off. "Yes?"

"Mr. Spock just went on the bridge, sir," Uhura said through her station.

"Thank you, Commander." Jim looked at Bones.

"Jim, don't be too hard on him. You do remember what it was like right when Carol told you she was pregnant with David," Bones reminded his friend.

"Yes, Bones, I do remember. I was a nervous wreck through the nine months and the first year after David was born," Jim said as he got up and walked out of sickbay.

Jim returned to the bridge. "Captain, I regret beginning my shift late. I had an unexpected appointment," Spock said.

"Don't worry about it, Spock. We can all be late once in a while. Don't make a habit of it."

"Thank you, captain."

"All right, is there anything going on, anything at all?" Jim asked. "I am bored."

All of a sudden, Commander Uhura said, "Sir, we are getting hail from Admiral Phillips on earth."

"On the viewer," Jim said.

"Shawn, what do I owe for this meeting?" Jim asked.

"I want the enterprise to return to earth for an inspection, if that is okay with you, captain?" Phillips asked.

"Of course, Admiral Phillips," Jim replied.

"Great. Commander Spock, when the Enterprise arrives on Earth, I would like to speak to you and your wife," Phillips told him.

"Of course, Admiral," Spock said.

"Good, the Enterprise is on leave until further notice," Phillips said, and then communication was broken.

"Sulu set a new course heading for Earth wrap five," Jim said.

"Course set for Earth, warp five," Sulu said.

"Engage," Jim stated. "Spock, my office."

Just then, the turbo lift opened, and Bones came into the bridge. "Well, that was perfect timing. Just the man I was looking for," Bones said to Spock.

"Dr. McCoy, can you join Spock and me in my office?" Jim asked.

"Yes, Captain." McCoy followed Kirk and Spock into Jim's office.

"Okay, gentlemen, we are heading to Earth for an inspection of the Enterprise, and Admiral Phillips wants to see Spock and his wife when they return to Earth."

"What did you do, you green-blooded Man, other than Anna is expecting your firstborn?" McCoy announced.

"Spock, you should be jumping up and down right now. I just told you were going to be a father." McCoy looked at Spock with his mouth hanging open.

"Thank you for letting me know, Bones. I will pass on the news to Anna. As to why the Admiral wants to see me, Jim, I have no idea."

"Okay, Spock, you will take the rest of this shift off. Go, be with your wife. That is an order, Spock, go be with Anna," Jim said.

"Thank you, Captain," Spock said and walked out of the Captain's office. He got on the Turbolift. "Seven."

Spock went into his quarters. "Anna," he said as he walked into the bedroom. He saw his wife laying on their bed. Spock took off his boots and joined her, wrapping his arms around her neck.

"You should be on duty for the rest of your shift. Why are you here?" she asked him.

"It was indeed a successful Pon Farr," Spock whispered in her ear.

"I am with a child," Anna said. She turned in Spock's arms to face him.

"Yes, Anna, my soul mate. You are with child," Spock told her gently. "The Enterprise is headed back to Earth for an inspection, and Admiral Phillips requested a meeting with us upon our arrival."

"Why does he want to talk to the both of us?" Anna asked her husband.

"I do not know, Anna. We will find out when we get there. For now, let's worry about this little one." Spock put his hand on his wife's abdomen.

"Spock do you want to…" before Anna could finish, Spock looked at her in her eyes.

"No, Anna, Mind Melds are very intrusive on the person you are doing it with, and they are also very stressful. I never understood why some Vulcan couples do that while expecting." Spock kiss her a slow deep kiss

"Let's try to get some rest," Spock told her. She fell asleep in his arms. "There is so much that you don't know. I wish your father had not taken you away from Vulcan when you were young," Spock said softly to her.
