Chapter Ten: Spock's wife
The next morning, Bones woke up and saw Spock sitting on a stool meditating.
"It is called meditation, Dr. You should try it sometime to help relieve some stress," Spock said with his eyes closed.
Anna noticed Dr. McCoy rolled his eyes at that comment. "Your couch, Spock, is like a hard rock."
"It reminds me of my father's couch on Vulcan. I find it quite comfortable," Spock told him as he got up from his stool. He walked over to the kitchen and saw Anna having some spice Tea. Spock gave her a light kiss on the top of her head. He walked over to the replicator to order Plomeek Tea. In less than two seconds later, Spock was sipping his tea.
Both Anna and Spock were sipping their tea when Jim walked in. All of a sudden, everyone heard Jim's comm sound. "Yes," he answered.
"Captain, Commander Uhura here. The Enterprise is ready to go," she said.
"Thank you, commander. We will be on the Enterprise shortly," Jim said.
"Okay, Captain Spock and Commander Oshay, are you two ready to go to your new home?" Jim asked.
"I can agree with that," Spock told everyone in the room.
"I concur with my husband. Let's get to that station," Anna said. Spock held out his hand and helped his wife up. He noticed Anna was wearing the Shawl again. Anna looked at Spock. "Darling, please try to understand. I have not had a chance to participate in Vulcan traditions until now," Anna told him.
"I know," Spock said.
Anna noticed her bags by the door. "Spock, I could have done that." Anna pointed to her bags.
"I wanted you to rest," Spock told her.
"Okay, let's get you guys to that space station," Bones said.
Everyone walked out of Spock's apartment and went to the shuttle pad. They saw an Enterprise shuttle waiting for them with Scotty.
The group also noticed Admiral Oshay and some Starfleet security officers were standing by the shuttle." I want Commander Spock arrested for kidnapping," Admiral Oshay told the Starfleet Security Officers.
Everyone saw Admiral Phillips approach. "I can explain. Admiral Oshay had no standing here. He received a Starfleet Restraining Order last night. His daughter is twenty-three years old, and he has no right to be here. He was suspended from his duties because he attempted to kidnap his own daughter and his son-in-law Captain Spock," Admiral Phillips stated.
"Admiral Oshay, is what Admiral Phillips said true?" the security officers asked. Everyone noticed Anna becoming pale. Spock touched her back, then put his arm around her to protect his wife.
"Yes, it is true, but that stupid restraining order is just a piece of paper. It means nothing," Oshay yelled.
Phillips spoke then, "Captain Spock, take your wife to the Enterprise shuttle. That is an order."
"Yes, Admiral." Spock led his wife gently to the shuttle.
Once they were onboard, Phillips said, "Adam, please stop. Do you know the emotional damage you are causing your daughter? Granted, she is Vulcan, but you raised her as a human and told her not to hide her emotions. Stop this insanity right now. That Starfleet Restraining Order means more than a scrap of paper, and you violated the terms. It is a legal Starfleet document. Security Officers, take away Admiral Oshay and place him under arrest for violating that Starfleet Restraining order," Phillips said.
The security officers put the cuffs on Oshay and took him away. Spock was on the shuttle holding his wife. He could feel her shaking. "Spock, please don't let me go right now," she begged. Anna needed to feel Spock's strong arms around her. She started to cry on his chest.
"I won't," he told her softly.
Captain Kirk, and Dr. McCoy, walked up to Admiral Phillips. "What is Admiral Oshay's problem?" Kirk asked Phillips.
"I don't know, Jim. He was not always this way toward Vulcans. Something had changed through the years," Phillips said. "You must ensure that Captain Spock and Commander Oshay get to Vulcan Space. A lot is riding on the survival of their baby."
"Admiral Phillips is it true that Captain Spock's and Commander Oshay's kids will be the first Vulcan child in the past ten years?" Bones asked.
"Yes, that is why it is imperative that they reach Vulcan space as soon as possible. Because they are both citizens of Vulcan, they can get more protection there than they would here on earth. You must make sure they get to Vulcan space and the safety that space station can provide," Admiral Phillips said and then walked away.
Dr. McCoy and Jim walked onto the Enterprise. "Okay, Anna, I am going to run a brief medical scan on you. Please, let me do this," Bones begged her.
"That is fine, Dr. McCoy," Anna said. Spock let go of Anna only long enough to complete the medical scan.
After the scan was done, Bones said, "Well, you seem to be in great shape considering everything going on."
"Thank you, Dr," Anna said. A sense of relief spread throughout her body, putting her more at ease.
"I am going to pilot the shuttle," Spock told her.
"I am good, now, Spock. I promise," Anna said. Spock got up from his seat and took the chair to pilot the shuttle back to the Enterprise.
Once they got underway, everyone was silent for the ride back to the Enterprise. A minute after everyone was back on the Enterprise, Spock helped Anna back to their quarters. "Anna, please rest for a while," Spock told her.
"I will. Spock, come with me for a few minutes," Anna said. She removed her Shawl, and they sat down on the chair. "All right, we will meditate for a few minutes." After they meditated, Spock helped Anna up.
"I am going to talk to Jim and Bones. Please lock the door behind me," Spock said as he left their quarters. After Spock left, Anna hit a button and locked it. Spock got on the turbolift and closed his eyes for a minute. "Bridge," he said.
The lift doors opened, and everyone saw Spock. "Captain, Dr. McCoy, can I have a few minutes?" Spock asked.
"Yes, Captain Spock, you may," Jim said, grinning. Jim could see that Spock was in no mode for jokes right now. "Okay, my office." The three of them walked into his office.
"I don't know where to begin. I know my son is important to the people of Vulcan right now. More so to his mother and me. When Admiral Oshay took Anna away from her mother, everyone was upset. Then everyone on Vulcan heard rumours that Admiral Oshay did not teach the Vulcan traditions to Anna. Madam Teva tried very hard to get her daughter back to Vulcan. But the Admiral had too many connections at the time. Now, though, everyone has noticed the change in him and his hatred for Vulcans. I will be relieved when I can get Anna onto that space station. Once my son is born, he will be very well protected because my father is the Ambassador of Vulcan. He will be the first grandson of Ambassador Sarek. My son will have protection like I never had. But he will live his life the way he chooses, and my father will respect that as he respected my choices. He did not agree with many of my choices, but he respected them. He will do the same for his grandson."
"Spock, I know that Admiral Phillips mentioned your child would be the first Vulcan child born in ten years, but why?" McCoy asked.
"A virus has plagued Vulcan and Vulcan women for many years. Their government had known about the virus for ten years but failed to realize it would become an issue. When birth rates declined, they suspected, then proved this virus was the cause. Believe it or not, Dr. McCoy, even Vulcans make mistakes," Spock explained.
"So, I am guessing that you and Anna were just guinea pigs," Jim told his friend.
"Guinea Pigs?" Spock asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Test subjects," Bones said.
"They want to see if you, Spock, who had not lived on Vulcan for many years, and Anna, because she left when she was four, could make a child. Your child Spock," McCoy said.
"You should be throwing things now, Spock. You should be as mad as hell right now," Jim said.
"Jim, what good would I do being angry? It would not help anyone. It could make matters worse than they are right now," Spock said. "Now I will retire for the evening, so I can be with my wife and our child." Spock turned around then and left his friend's office.
When he got to his quarters, he saw Lt. Tarvic outside. "Lt. Tarvic, can I help you with something?" Captain Spock asked.
"No, Captain Spock, I was just leaving. Commander Oshay would not let me in," Lt. Tarvic said and then walked away
Spock used his card and entered his quarters, "Anna." Anna rushed into his arms. "What?" he asked.
"Lt. Tarvic is in Pon Farr, Spock, and wants to mate with me. That is why I would not let him in," she replied.
"I am here. You are safe," Spock told her. Spock picked her up and carried her to their bed. They fell asleep in each other's arms.
