The Sole Survivor follows a lead from a bunch of raiders talking about some kind of fighting cage. Nora finds her way there and she likes what she sees. Rated M for language and sexual thymes.
Disclaimer: I do not own Fallout or it's characters. The story will follow the game slightly but most of the dialogue will be changed to keep it interesting.
Chapter 1: New world Attitude!
"Nate..." A soft cry echoed through Vault 111 as the sole survivor placed a trembling hand on her late husband's chamber. "I will find him! I will find Shaun!" She gritted her teeth as she used her newly found strength to pull herself up, taking one last look as she grabbed a 10mm pistol off the overseer's desk. Any ammo left was taken and sure enough, Nora left to find her missing son.
It was nice to think that she wasn't alone in the word. Nora was surprised to find a group of people looking out for one another, The MinuteMen is what Preston call them. After defending the band of raiders and a horrific monster they called a DeathClaw, she assisted them with finding shelter. No one was living in Sanctuary anymore and they helped her rebuild her home, so she let them stay.
"Are you sure you want to leave? We can protect you here." Preston was concerned when Nora hopped into her power armor. "I don't want protection, besides Mama Murphy told me to head for Diamond City."
"Not everything she says is reliable." Preston raised a brow with worry for his new acquaintance. "That's the only lead I have. I have to try." She answered with a huff while lifting her Machine gun. "Stay with us, we could really use a General." He continued to persuade. She smiled but shook her head. "You're sweet, but I need to find my son." "I understand, until next time General!" He saluted her, earning a genuine smile as armor clanked across the crumbling bridge.
"Out of ammo! Fucking grate!" Nora hissed as she tossed her now worthless 10mm pistol. Never in her wildest dream had she ever thought fighting off huge green humanoid monsters would be normal. "Shit, shit, shit!" A large hammer was swung over her head as she ducked. The monster laughed with amusement. "Tinny human scum!" He chuckled with amusement as he swung. She was running out of energy and needed to act fast. The armor was in shambles, exposing her bright blue jumpsuit, and without a weapon it looked hopeless. Until a large bang could be heard. "Get back!" A man yelled as he fired his rifle, hitting the green beast right through his head. "I'll take that." Nora smirked as she pick up the now abandoned sledgehammer, not realizing it was too heavy for her even with her metal frame.
"Come on! Let me in!" A girl's voice caught the vault dweller's attention. "Sorry Piper, I have orders to keep you out." The voice on the intercom sounded a bit shaky to Nora's surprise. The red coated woman noticed the new face and looked in aw as she was pushed aside. "Hey there, you wouldn't let a couple of lovely ladies fend for themselves would you?" Nora's smooth voice caught both strangers off guard. "N-no! Of course not, I didn't know someone else was out there." He stuttered as he was cut off by the gate. "Thank you for helping me out." The woman smiled as she walked in only to be stopped by a well dressed man. "Hold it right there Piper, If you continue writing slander about me in that paper of yours I will be forced to relocate you and that sister of yours."
"Keep talking McDonough, that's all you're good for."
The man growled before turning his attention. "I hope Piper didn't bother you."
Nora glanced over to said woman. "No not at all." Earning a smile from Piper. "Sense you're here, what do you think of the press?"
"I've always enjoyed reading the morning news."
The dark haired woman light up, "See McDonough!" She chimed.
The man growled once more, "Welcome to Diamond City. Just let me know if I can help you in any way." He turned to leave but Nora spoke up, "Actually, I'm looking for my infant son."
The man's didn't even flinch, "I'm sorry but there are too many missing people cases to..."
He was cut off, "Even infant's aren't safe? Why won't you help this woman look for her son?!" Piper looked like she was about to attack before Nora stepped in. "Is there anyone I can talk to?" Her soft tone won over the mayor's sympathy. "There is a detective, Nick Valentine, he could help."
"Thank you." Nora watched as he walked away before turning her attention to the other woman, "And thank you for your support."
"I should be thanking you. I thought I was going to be locked out for a while. So uh, why don't you stop by my office when you get a chance. Getting your story out there might be just what you need."
"Sure, every little thing helps."
Nora didn't really care to drag around a partner, but Piper insisted on helping her find this detective. Raiders was the least of Nora's problems. With no 'caps' to her name, she was forced to use the hammer she could hardly swing. "I have extra ammo Blue." Piper smirked as she watched in sympathy. "Tossed my gun. With nothing to shoot it was worthless."
"Take his gun then." Piper pointed at the loaded shot gun. "The hammer does more damage. Not to mention what grate exercise this is." She flexed her arm making the other chuckle. "Just don't get shot." Piper pleaded as they continued down the subway's stairs.
"Wow, you really held your own there Blue." Piper smirked as she watched Nora swing her hammer onto a now crippled raider. "Thanks, you're not bad yourself." She smirked looking down underneath a counter with a container labeled cap stash. "Hu, my lucky day." Nora slipped the caps into her pocket and noticed a note stuck to the lid. It had names listed with one circled. "Cait? Piper what do you make of this?"
"I'm not completely sure. We could ask a raider but I don't think they like to talk." The two chuckled before continuing the search.
"Thanks for getting me out of there." The robotic detective they were looking for was nicer then Nora had hoped. "No problem, but I could really use your help." Nora's brow showed her concern, she thought about how much time was already waisted. "Of course, but first let's head back to my office." Nick was surprised when Nora showed her displeasure in the idea, but she followed regardless.
"Synths? Kellogg?" Nora roared through Piper's office. "Calm down Blue, we will find him." Piper's words didn't help. "A 10 year old boy?! I've missed so much!" Nora tried her best not to destroy Piper's home, but searching for clues in Kellogg's house made her ferrous. "Hey, It's not your fault Blue. We'll go see if your dog can..." Piper was cut off as Nora rammed her fist into the wooden pillar. "I'm gonna go... I won't be able to rest tonight." She growled before heading out the door. "Blue wait!" Piper tried to protest, but Nora needed some space.
Dragging along a bloodstained hammer made the modern woman fall to her knees. Walking through the Wasteland was hard enough without Raiders blocking her path. She hid behind an abandoned car when a campsite caught her eye. Laughter came from the scum. "I can't believe Cait wins every round!" One said, "Ya, I'd rather bet on her then fight." Another chuckled. "Making caps off Tommy is easier then looting!"
Nora's interest peeked. Cap's are necessary for this new world. Nothing is handed for free. "Sorry Shaun... " she whispered, realizing she will need better armor and weapons to support her one woman attack. "Hello boy's." Nora snuck up behind the now tense raiders. One reached for his gun, but was too late. He lay dead at her feet. "We can do this the hard way, or the easy way. One of those will get you killed."
"So this is the place?" Nora asked her escort's. "Ya, The Combat Zone." One smirked. "But you can get yourself killed in there." The other warned. "I'll be fine. All I have to do is bet on Cait right? It doubles my caps?" She asked swinging her hammer over her shoulder. "Yep, they snickered as they held the door. Nora slowly walked in to see a couple of raiders tied up. "They broke the rules." They explained before she could even ask. "I see." She answered opening the doors to see a fight coming to its end.
"Hey Tommy, need a new fighter?"
Nora was caught off guard. "That wasn't the... Hey!!" She growled as they shoved her towards the disfigured man before her. She began to lift her hammer but Tommy grabbed it. "The only fighting here is in the ring. Unless you think you can take on everyone here." He warned as Nora noticed her situation. "Alright, I could let off some steam." She answered with a smirk. "I love a woman with spirit! Ready for another fight little bird?" He called to the red head wielding a blood stained bat. "I told you not to call me that." She answered back with a thick Irish accident, "You think you got what it takes?" She turned her attention to Nora who smirked at the challenge. "Head to that doorway over to your right. We provide the weapons, and no power armor." He ordered. "Got it." Nora did as she was told.
It's almost time for the fight and Nora was surprisingly looking forward to it. She couldn't help but notice a soft grunt coming from the hall, and peeked around the corner. The red head had injected herself with a syringe of psycho. "Scared?" Nora teased, making the woman jump. "What? No, of course not. It's none of your business." She growled before picking up her bat with a smirk. "I hope you're ready, I ain't going easy on ya."
"You didn't choose a weapon?" Cait questioned as Tommy introduced Cait with her actual name. "Cait Hu? You're actually quite famous among raiders."
"Scared yet? The WasteLand is no place for a vault dweller. You'll be too easy."
Nora smiled as she lifted her newly toned arms. "Bring it hot head."
Tommy took the bets and the fight was on. Dodging the bat was easy and as soon as Nora had an opening she popped it right out of Cait's hand. Using the bat, Nora backed Cait up to the cage and pressed it up against her neck. Not too hard to choke her cocky companion, but with enough force to stun her. "Just get it over with." Cait sighed. "Tommy said no killing." She protested, but curious nonetheless. "Fuck what Tommy wants." Cait hissed. Nora pressed up against the red head before backing away, allowing Cait to fall into a coughing fit.
"I ain't going down that easy! You're gonna have to knock me out." The red head lifted herself up, along with her fists. "Alright, but don't complain later." Nora said as she swung the bat, hard, knocking Cait unconscious.
