Hi everyone! I know, another story! Look at me go! And don't worry I haven't forgotten about my other stories I've started, but some ideas are more of a priority than others.
I have always wanted to write a story about the guys' childhoods in Minnesota. So finally, i have decided to just share it with you all. Now, while a lot of the stories I've found in this context start with Logan moving to Minnesota, but I wanted to explore all the boys and how they all met each other.
So, I give you: Before The Rush
Now, I haven't decided if this will be in chronological order, or a series of one shots spanning from kindergarten to right before the pilot episode, and i just post them as they come. So, let me know which you would prefer, and if it's the latter, I will take request!
Finally, one last thing, HAPPPY ONE MONTH FRIENDSHIP ANNIVERSARY to my wonderful friend and fellow BTR fanfic writer, Later To The Rusher Party!
Jennifer Knight entered her son's bedroom quietly as he was still asleep. She sat on the edge of his bed and gently nudge his shoulder.
"Kendall, honey. It's time's to get up now. You don't want to be late for your first day of school do you?" she asked him and watch the five year old turn around and flutter his bright green eyes open.
"Do I have to go? Can I start next year?" he asked his mother frowning.
Jennifer laughed at her son's request, "Sorry honey, school is important. You wanna be a big boy, well big boys go to school," she said and Kendall was convinced enough to get up.
Jennifer laughed as Kendall went to his dresser, "Where's my Wild's shirt, Mommy?" he asked her going through his drawers.
"It's in the wash, honey. You can wear it tomorrow," she said as she pulled out a pair of jeans and clean underwear and socks for her son. "Just pick a different shirt, Kendall."
Kendall stomped his foot in anger, crossed his arms and pouted at his mother, "But Mommy, I want to wear my hockey shirt," he complained and curled his bottom look.
Before Jen could answer, her husband Curtis walked by. "What's the hold up little man?" he asked Kendall and looking at his wife. He came in the room and kissed her cheek.
"Gross," Kendall shouted at his parents small display of afffection.
"What was that?" Curtis teased Kendall as he went over, picked up the child and started tickling him relentlessly.
"Daddy, stop," Kendall cried between giggles. "Okay, sport," his dad said as he put Kendall down and he went to sit on the bed. "Now what seems to be the problem?"
"Mommy said I can't wear my Wild shirt to school," the five year old informed his father. Curtis looked at his son and smiled, "Well Kendall, if Mommy said you can't, then there's probably a good reason, right?" he said and Kendall nodded at his father.
"It's in the wash," he said, repeating what his mom had told him and watch his father nod again.
"What about today, you wear another shirt, and tomorrow you can impress all your new friends with your clean Minnesota Wild shirt," his dad offered and Kendall smiled and nodded.
"Okay, Daddy!" Kendall cheered and went to grab a new shirt. Curtis clapped his hand together! "Great now hurry downstairs for breakfast," he told his son as he and his wife left their son to continue getting ready for his first day of kindergarten.
Jennifer shook her head at her husband, "I told him the same thing!" she complained to him. Curtis kissed his wife temple and smile, "Sometimes, he needs a man to listen to, honey."
A few minutes later, Kendall came running down the stairs and sat at the table, quickly scoffing down his Fruit Loops.
"Slow down, Kendall or you'll choke," his mother told him. Kendall looked up at her, "Sorry," he said quietly and finished his cereal at a slower rate. He brought his bowl to the sink and grabbed his backpack and was about to go out side and wait for the bus, when Jen came up behind her son with her camera.
"Not so fast! Pictures please," she said and Kendall rolled his eyes, but smiled for the picture and then went outside to wait the last two minutes for the bus. When it got there, Kendall got on without even looking back at his parents.
"Bye sweetie! Have you great day!" he heard his mom shout as he entered the bus. Kendall sat down on the second bench, luckily it was empty, and he waved goodbye to his parents from the window.
"Boys! Hurry up we can't be late on the first day!" Sylvia Garcia shouted up the stairs. She waited with her arms crossed as two of the three boys came running.
"Slow down niños," she told her eldest two sons as they ran past her and they hopped on the stools in front of the breakfast bar.
"Mami, what's for breakfast?" Sebastian Garcia, the eldest of the Garcia children asked his mother. Sylvia rolled her eyes and went over to her sons and grabbed them each a bowl and the cereal box.
"You two are fold enough to get your own cereal, you know," she said as she grabbed them the carton of milk too.
"But Mami, you know where everything is," Diego, the second oldest said and Sebastian nodded. Sylvia looked at her sons unimpressed.
"Speaking of where everything is, where is your brother?" she asked the, scanning the room for her another son that was going to school today.
The two boys shared a look and they both shrugged, "Diego, you share a room with your brother, how do you not know where he is?" his mother asked him and the 7 year old shrugged again.
Sylvia sighed and looked at the boys, "Eat quickly and no mess! I'm going to check on Carlos. Martin! Are the twins up?" she shouted marching up the stairs and saw her husband holding one of the two babies in his arms.
"Well, Mi Amore, Elena is up and ready but Gabriel is being a little challenging this morning," Martin Garcia told his wife, bouncing the one year old Elena in his arms.
Sylvia smiled and kissed her husband's cheek, "Carlos or Gabriel, take your pick," she said and Martin gave Elena to his wife and went over to the Carlos and Diego's room.
Sylvia sighed and looked at his daughter, "Oh mija, what are we going to do them will all these boys," she said making the baby laugh and Sylvia went to the nursery to get her other baby ready for daycare.
"Carlos? Are you ready for school?" the father asked his five year old who sat on the edge of the top bunk.
"Oh niño, your shirt is on backwards," he said walking over to the bed and grabbing his son, bringing him to the floor and fixing his shirt.
"Papi, I don't wanna go to school!" Carlos pouted, crossing his little arms over his now fixed shirt.
Martin had an exaggerated thinking look on his face, "Carlos, why don't you want to go to school? You're a big boy and big boys go to school," he said patting a hand on the small boy's shoulder.
Carlos looked up at his papi with his big brown eyes, "But Papi, I'm scared!" he said, "what if I don't make any friends and the kids are mean," he continued and Martin nodded and looked around the room. Martin had an idea.
"Well mi amor, if you wear this," he started and went and grabbed Carlos's hockey helmet and placed it on his head and strapped it on, "Nothing can hurt you when you have a helmet like this," he said and Carlos looked at his papi a little uncertain at first nap but then smiled, "Thank you Papi!" and he hugged his father.
Martin picked up his son and carried him down the stairs, "Alright everyone, let's take Mami's picture and then we have to go before we are late. Vamonos!"
Kendall looked around the kindergarten classroom not sure what to do. There kids everywhere forming small groups and playing. He didn't seem too interested with the group of boys playing with dinosaurs and he certainly didn't want to play with the girls and the dolls. There was a kitchen set with a few kids playing chef. Kendall had a kitchen set like that at home, but he didn't want to share this one with three other kids.
He scanned the room again and one boy caught his eye. He was wearing a hockey helmet. Kendall thought it was odd to wear hockey gear inside when you weren't playing hockey, but maybe this kid was clumsy and hit his head a lot. Kendall decided to go up to the boy playing with the Hot Wheels.
Kendall sat down next to the helmet boy, "Hi, I'm Kendall! What's your name?" he asked grabbing one of the cars from the toy bin.
The tanned boy looked up at Kendall and smiled, "Hi Kendall! I'm Carlos! Do you wanna play with me?" he asked and Kendall shrugged nonchalant but hid his smile at the same time. Carlos grabbed a track and looked at Kendall, "Let's race!" he said and and Kendall smiled excitedly.
The two boys spent all of play time together and were very excited when they were assigned to the same circle table but not next to each other. A tall brunette girl named Taylor Hamilton sat between them. She was nice but Carlos wanted to sit next to Kendall. At lunch the two boys walked side by side to the cafeteria, deciding they would be each other's line buddies. Carlos spotted his brother Diego sitting with the other second graders, but Kendall tugged at Carlos's sleeve.
"This way Carlos!" he instructed and the two sat at their classroom's assigned table.
Once the two sat down, Carlos opened his lunchbox and pulled out his Tupperware fountained containing a corndog, some tortilla chips and his mami's homemade salsa. He looked over at Kendall and he took a bite of a sandwich.
"What do you have for lunch Kendall?" Carlos asked nicely. Kendall put his sandwich down and took a sip of his juice box, "Oh, just a ham and cheese sandwich. Nothing fancy like you," he said.
Carlos looked at his lunch and pushed the container closer to Kendall, "Do you wanna try a chip? My Mami made the salsa," he said cheerfully. Kendall nodded and took a chip and dipped it in the dip.
"I've never had salsa before," he said and cautiously took a bite, "Mhmm," he said as he ate the chip, "That's good!"
Carlos giggled, "I'll tell my Mami you like it, she'll be happy," he said and Kendall looked curiously at Carlos.
"Why are you wearing a helmet, Carlos?" Kendall asked the boy.
Carlos looked down slightly embarrassed, "My Papi said nothing bad would happen with my helmet. I was scared I wouldn't make any friends," he said and now Kendall looked at Carlos sad.
"Oh," Kendall said quietly.
"What's wrong?" Carlos asked him confused on why Kendall was now sad.
Kendall looked at Carlos, "I just thought, you know, we were friends," he said sheepishly.
Carlos looked at Kendall wide eyed, "We're friends?" he asked.
That made Kendall laughed, "Only if you want to be," he said, and now the two boys were laughing.
"Okay!" Carlos cheered excitedly and took off his helmet, "Well I guess I don't need this," he said and sat the helmet on the other side of him. Kendall reached over and grabbed it from the bench, "No keep it, it makes you look tough," he said and so Carlos happily put on the helmet again.
Kendall and Carlos didn't know that would be the start of a beautiful friendship, with more friends to come.
So that was the first chapter/story whatever the decision is. I really hope you all love this as much as I do! This is a little outside my regular writing, but I think you'll all enjoy what I have up my sleeve.
Hope you liked your surprise, Late To The Rusher Party! This is for you!
