There were a number of negative things about being short, and one of those was the annoying habit that large demons had where they would pick her up and throw her. Sometimes they would simply throw her away to get more distance between them so they could either regroup or run away, but it was also a favored way to smush her into the nearest wall or tree. Which hurt.

The big and ugly demon who had grabbed her this time had already banged her into an inconvenient wall several times and causing her to get a little dizzy from the repeated hard contact. It would've done it again, except a shimmering purple portal had abruptly opened up about ten feet away. It clearly saw an opportunity to get rid of her, and after getting a better grip on her body, it decided to treat her like a baseball, and subsequently threw her as hard as it could into the water-like substance.

The next thing she knew, she was flying through the air with no chance of stopping or even slowing down her own trajectory. She went through the magical conduit and then she came out from something that felt like some sort of technology. Not that she had time to really think as she was suddenly inside somewhere and she flipped over in the air, doing a slightly more clumsy and hard landing than she normally would've done.

Standing up, she first saw the metal ramp she was standing on, then the feet of a row of people, and as she quickly looked up a row of soldier boys with big guns filled her view. Buffy groaned silently, military people were not her people. When she lifted her eyes even higher she saw a wide window with even more people, although the ones back there weren't pointing anything at her.

In an attempt to calm the suddenly tense situation, she raised her hands to show that she was unarmed. All of her stakes had been used on the vampires who had been the foreplay for the evening, and her sword was currently stuck in the neck of big and ugly's shorter but just as ugly companion. It didn't mean she was out of weapons, just visible ones.

She dropped her eyes back down to the more immediate threat, but none of them had said or done anything. They just stood there, aiming their big guns at her silently. In her peripheral view, she noticed a few of the people upstairs leaving the window but decided to just wait it out. While she was dressed in a nice pair of black slacks and a cute short-sleeved pink top, they both had icky demon goo on them. Her hair was probably messed up and it all added up to a not-so-good first impression.

It didn't take long for the blast doors to open and emit four people. First came an older man with greying hair and the male version of the Blonde Act, followed by an actual blonde woman who did nothing to hide her intelligence, then a tall muscular man with short dark blond hair her lust bunnies took an immediate liking to, and last came a tall black man with huge muscles who looked like he might enjoy bench pressing small cars for fun. Maybe he'd be willing to spar later?

The first one waved down all the soldiers at the bottom of the ramp, and they lowered their weapons but remained alert and on guard. They all seemed to switch their focus between her and the metal thing she had arrived through, which made her suspect it wasn't the first time it had happened.

"Well, hello there!" The grey-haired military man greeted her cordially but a little confused. "Where did you come from?"

She had just opened her mouth to say something, she wasn't sure what exactly, but the military woman interjected with even more questions. "How did you stop our shield from blocking the wormhole? And how did you get all of the glyphs to light up at the same time?"

When did she enter a science fiction class, and better yet, where was Willow so she could answer on her behalf? This was way outside of her comfort zone, but her geeky friend wasn't here so... "Wormhole? Glaps? What are you talking about?"

The bespeckled geek her lust bunnies had decided was a honey gave her a reassuring smile while he waved his companions to silence. Amusingly, they both obeyed without question. "Hi! My name is Doctor Daniel Jackson, and these people are General Jack O'Neill, Colonel Samantha Carter, and Teal'c. You're on the Tau'ri homeworld. Who are you, and which planet did you come here from?"

That was at least partially helpful, and it also confirmed she had landed on a military base. Which was not of the good. As she didn't really understand all Dr. Jackson had said, and was skeptical of what she might have understood, she told him the only thing she could, "I'm from Earth. Where else would I be from? Mars?" And then, more as an afterthought, "What's Tari?"

Her reply got her frows all around. Well, the tall guy with the golden tattoo on his forehead opted to incline his head to express his confusion, but all the others gave her frowny faces.

The male geek, and those biceps were really distracting, made a second attempt. "What's your name?"

"Buffy," she replied suspiciously as she decided to withhold her family name. "Where are we? Why does it look like we're inside a silo? What's Tari, and why did you call Earth for that? And," turning halfway around she gave the huge metallic circle she had apparently exited through a pointed look, "What's that thing?" And then, just for good measure, "How did I get here?"

They were all reasonable questions as far as she was concerned, because other than some kind of secret military bunker far, far underground, she had no idea where she was or why she had ended up here. Well, the ugly demon had thrown her into the portal, but where had it come from and why was it leading here?

"Tau'ri are humans from Earth. It's what our planet is known as out there," and he gestured kind of vaguely in a way she just assumed meant out there in the rest of the galaxy. Because, she had apparently ended up in a Sci-Fi movie. Then he continued as he spoke slowly while scrutinizing her as if she was some kind of interesting specimen he might want to put under a microscope.

"We're in Colorado Springs, in the Cheyenne Mountain below NORAD."

Speaking without really meaning to, she couldn't help but ask, "So you're Santa's heavily armed elves, then?" Her lips twitched slightly and after a moment of shock General O'Neill laughed.

"I think I might like you, even if you are trespassing on a highly classified base."

After that, he apparently decided to give her a closer look because he added, "Well young lady, why don't you come with us. There's a needle-happy doctor who needs to look you over, and after that, we need to have a little talk."

As she clearly didn't really have a choice in the matter, unless she wanted to tell them about her Slayerness, she obliged. Hopefully, she wouldn't regret that later.
