King: This was a pretty odd one to get as a prompt, but one that intrigued me in how I work it. It's a crossover episode, so to speak, between the RWBY world and Digimon Tamers. Not an action one, but one I thought was too cute to pass up if played right. I hope I did the idea some kind of justice.

Prompt: Jaune goes on a date with his girlfriend Rika Nonaka

A loud tone rang out from the alarm clock sitting on the desk. A hand rose up to shut off the annoying tone with an accompanying groan. A young girl with ginger hair rose up from her bed with a lazy look on her face. She moved to sit up from her bed and onto her feet. She moved to her desk, looking into a small mirror at her own reflection. Her purple eyes were in that same state as always, calm. One could almost call it cold. Her name was Rika Nonaka, and her life was flipped upside down a few years ago.

The D-Reaper had been strange, but well within what she had learned to expect. The Digital World was weird, but it made sense. This? This was something else. Five years after the D-Reaper incident, her world was torn apart by a strange anomaly. It was a slow process, one that gave people plenty of people time: time to prepare, time to panic, and time to accept. There were plenty of people who claimed it was the end of the world. They were right, but not in the way they imagined.

Earth was broken and gone, shattered and stitched into something else. There was some kind of other world that was used to fill in the pieces. Rika had previously thought it was the digital world, but no. It was something else entirely. If Rika could call it anything, it was like a gun-nut fantasy world. The population of Earth found horrible creatures on the other side that tried to kill them all. Rika knew she was lucky to end up in a city area, not everyone was that lucky. Cities and large settlements were mostly intact, but displaced in new locations, and not all of them had protectors nearby. After some time, they were able to get things under control and keep the creatures away, but it took time to build up new walls.

As Rika tossed her pajamas to the side, putting on her clothes for the day, she thought back at her life since the merger. She was eighteen now and living alone in a small apartment that was built in the now displaced Shinjuku. Once her shirt was on, she looked out her window to the city she knew so well in a world she didn't. It wasn't all bad though. She still had her old friends and her family was safe. Plus, the worlds getting stitched together led to new opportunities for everyone involved.

Rika's hair had long since grown out, now hanging over her shoulders even while now hanging in a ponytail. She looked herself over in her mirror and nodded lightly. "Alright. Here we go."

"You're really going through with this?" A voice rang out in her room.

Rika looked to the side in her mirror to find her old partner, Renamon, leaning on the wall behind her. It was another plus side, if you think about it that way. The old digital world got mixed in somehow and became a little less stable. It was how Earth was able to climatise as well as they had. Digimon could exist and thus protect Earth's citizens from the creatures. Most of the people of the other world, called Remnant, had never seen anything like them. But, everyone ultimately decided to stick together to protect them from the creatures.

Rika nodded to her partner from the reflection. "I am. Is there a particular reason I shouldn't?"

"No." Renamon answered. "I'll just admit that I was surprised." Renamon was quiet for a moment before turning away slightly. "He seems nice, at least."

Rika looked at her reflection for a moment, finding a small smile on her face. "Yeah." Her face returned to its usual neutral state. "I'm heading out. Don't get too far, but let us have our space unless I call you."

"Of course." Renamon disappeared like an illusion.

Rika took a breath and opened her door, stepping out into the world once again.

Shinjuku was fairly similar with only a few odd additions. There were new weapon stores and Dust shops dotting the street and small academies to help train people to defend themselves. Rika knew that Henry didn't like the changes, but that even he knew they were necessary. Humanity, and these Faunas they met since the merger, needed to defend themselves against the creatures. But for now, Rika's mind was focused on the young man standing at the clock in the park.

He was dressed in a grey hoodie and jeans with a pair of old boots. He also had a sword at his belt, something that would have concerned her before the merger, but now seems commonplace. Anyone from Shinjuku without a partner Digimon (which was a lot) had started to carry a weapon in some form in case those creatures appeared. His blond hair was fairly messy, which contrasted her neater style. His blue eyes were expressive, filled with hope and wonder. Another contrast according to her. As she walked up, he noticed her and his grin widened almost instantly.

"Hey!" He waved her down, but ran up to meet her half way. "You ready?"

"Yeah." Her tone seemed to hide how she truly felt. She was expecting him to comment about how cold she seemed. She didn't know why at this point. They'd been together almost a year and it never came up. In fact…

"Great! I found this place you might be interested in down in the market square." It was as if he could read her like a book.

"Lead the way then." To anyone else, she'd seem bored. But not to him it seemed.

Jaune led Rika down the Market area to a storefront she didn't recognize. She was still getting used to reading non-Japanese words, so she couldn't quite read the front sign. Her English lessons were cut off from the merger and Remnant had a similar writing system, but it took some time given Shinjuku's desire to hold onto the Japanese language, despite Remnant having a unified language. She could pick up 'Trade' and 'Store,' but that was it for the moment. But as she stepped in, those two words made so much more sense.

Jaune moved around her and held his arms side, "Tada!" It was a card store. An honest-to-god's Trading Card Store. Shelves of games she recognized and some she didn't.

She looked around in awe, "When did this open?"

"A couple days ago." Jaune waved to the woman behind the counter. "Hey June!"

"Sup, bro?" The older blond woman smirked seeing the two. "'Bout time I got to meet your girlfriend."

"Did you get it or not?"

"Right here." She handed her brother a pack from the counter.

Jaune spun on his heel and handed Rika the pack. "Fresh off the line."

"What?" Rika took the pack and looked down to find Digimon cards now in her hands. "How did… the printers and plants were lost in the merger. Where did you get these?"

"My sister June," Jaune gestured to the woman.

Who waved at Rika, "Hello again," before returning to helping someone.

Jaune continued saying, "She put together a new plant in town after she learned about the games and fell in love with them. And I remembered you really liked this stuff, but the merger took it all away. So, I asked June to put a special pack together for me to give to you."

Rika was stunned. How does she even begin to respond to that? But, her usual stoicism held and she decided to just open the pack. The first few were familiar: Andromon, Devimon, Lopmon, Basho-Leomon, one after another of familiar faces. But then, a curveball appeared. A holographic copy of Kyubimon. Then a Taomon. Then, of all things, a Renamon.

And she just had to appear now. Renamon looked over her partner's shoulder and at the picture. "Impressive detail."

Jaune chuckled when the Digimon appeared. "I was wondering where you went."

Rika grumbled slightly, "Renamon."

But Jaune waved that off. "It's fine. And hey, you've got one more card."

Rika looked down and moved the card slightly to show that she did have one more card to see. She moved the Renamon card aside and nearly fell over on the spot. It was her. A drawing of her sitting in profile and leaning onto an armrest on her chair. She recognized the scene as a supposed 'joke' picture Jaune took a few weeks ago. She ran her finger over the picture, clearly seeing the care taken in the scene.

"Rika?" Her attention was pulled back by a semi-worried Jaune. "You've been pretty quiet for ten minutes. You okay?"

Rika was silent, as per usual, but she rounded up the cards and held up toward her partner. "Hold these for a second." When Renamon took the cards, Rika instantly blitzed Jaune in a hug in the middle of the store. "Thanks."

Jaune was surprised at first, but smiled soon after. He wrapped his arms around her in turn and just said, "Any time."

The merger was a crazy event, one that changed things beyond recognition. But it wasn't all bad, really.
