A/N This is going to be my "first'' real attempt at writing. Other times it was more on impulse but writing this is an attempt at me taking writing up as more than a pass time every couple of months. Updates will come maybe every 2 weeks to start out but as I get into a rhythm they'll come out faster. A rewrite probably will come later down the line and if anyone would wanna beta for me email me at growthtactical .

Chapter 1 ninja

The ninja academy where new shinobi are trained for the military strength of the village hidden in the leaves, during this time of year however the graduation exams are taking place allowing for academy students to become adults of the village and full fledged genin.

Then there Torashi Tomiki, currently before Iruka sensei and Mizuki Sensei, his turn for the final examination. If there was any word to explain how he was feeling it would be scared. The beaming smiles of Iruka and Mizuki made him nervous, oh how he couldn't screw this up. Mei-nee was expecting great things from him and grandfather would take nothing less but success from his heir. The stress of the situation caused him to shake, making his already frail form look like a leaf in heavy winds.

"Torashi-san calm yourself it's okay just be confident in your skills' ' spoke Iruka his bright smile and kind demeanor showing as he motioned for him to calm. Torashi steeledhimself and waited for instruction.

"Okay good, Torashi-san, let's start off with your strong suit, the body replacement jutsu," Iruka stated. Complying he gathered chakra and with a poof of smoke he replaced himself with a log prepared in advance. Iruka smiled as he marked off a box on his clipboard. "Okay full marks, good job Torashi-san. Now the transformation jutsu" Iruka instructed.

Nodding to Iruka Torashi lowered his head in concentration, long dark green locs hanging over his eyes hiding the intent, hard look. Gathering chakra and imagining a transformation he felt his form change looking back up he heard a whistle.

"That's a damned good transformation, but your choices were the hokage, myself or Mizuki i'll have to take points off for that" Iruka deadpanned as he watched the now young woman fall into a mini depression. While the transformation was very similar to Torashi's normal look it had obvious differences: his normally long and spiky hair was now curly and in a ponytail, his normal black hoodie and white shorts were replaced by a green kimono, his normal dark green was a lush, vibrant viridian. He was slightly taller and body was more filled out. His face was still familiar, maybe a family member? Iruka thought

Torashi's transformation fell almost immediately when he heard lost points. "Sorry I forgot, it was just that Mei-nee was helping me last night and…Sorry" the meek boy apoligzed playing with his bangs sinking into the floor falling into a momentary depression mumbling something about being disowned and being worthless.

"Torashi-san it's okay you're still passing as of now it's alright" Iruka ressuered him as Mizuki giggled.

Looking up at them through his thick bangs hiding his eyes "you mean it Iruka-sensei" he pleaded with what Iruka would assume was puppy dog eyes behind his bangs, nodding his head Iruka motioned for him to return to his feet.

"Okay now for the final test the Clone jutsu" Iruka gestured for him to attempt it. Torashi placed his hands in the ram seal and gathered his chakra attempting to conjure three other Torashis. With a poof next to him three Torashis appeared, each of them looking spooked and scared but all identical to the original, Iruka nodded his head before breaking into a smile.

"Torashi Tomiki you pass, grab a headband and tell Naruto-kun he's up" Iruka stated as he pointed to a basket full of headbands on the desk. Grabbing his headband Torashi tied it around his neck, then made his exit not before thanking Iruka.

When Torashi entered his class room with his headband instead of the nods of approval everyone else got instead he got stares and whispers like "they really let him become a ninja?" but all of that was to be expected when he never exactly performed well in the academy only execling at weapon use and spars occasionally.

"If they let that weakling pass then everyone can pass!" a booming voice of one Naruto Uzumaki the resident prankster and deadlast. While Torashi had beat out Naruto and narrowly avoided being the deadlast it was only due to test scores and his seemingly talent in weapon use. At Naruto's loud voice Torashi backed away and got smaller but informed him that it was his turn to test. The blond prankster flashed him a grin before he made his way to the examination room. Watching him leave Torashi made his way to his seat in the very back as the class giggled.

Making his way home Torashi unlocked the door of the massive gate leading to the Tomiki estate. While he wasn't a clan child his family was an old and prestigious one. On his way to his room he was stopped by a maid explaining that his grandfather, the current head, wanted an audience with him. This was a cause for concern for him; his grandfather always made his dislike of him clear.

Knocking on the door to his chambers a voice responded for him to open it.

Opening the door Torashi kneeled in front of his grandfather's bed not once looking up at the man.

"Raise your head boy," his grandfather's deep, strong voice called out to him. Raising his head, Torashi made sure to still his shaking no matter how badly he wanted to run and find his sister. He had to at least fake his confidence, his grandfather would not accept his weakness.

Seeing his grandfather's long sliver locs and angular face and intense brown eyes, Torashi looked away out of reflex, hating confrontations . "A real man keeps eye contact, boy" his grandfather's disapproval obvious readjusting himself, Torashi made his voice heard to him.

"Grandfather I have passed the genin exams and have become a shinobi of the leaf" Torashi stated as he untied his headband from his neck and presented it to his grandfather.

"Your not rookie of the year." he stated the fact his eyes honing in on Torashi and his headband "but then again Sasuke Uchiha was in your class I can not fault you for not being able to compete against the mighty uchiha" the man spoke with what could be described as amusement for what Torashi didn't know.

"I am sorry grandfather I could not bring our family that honor" Torashi spoke forcing himself to sound remorseful and sorry.

"It cannot be helped that while true you are useless, you are still my heir, why you couldn't just take over the company when you turned eighteen instead of this foolish path, I will never know" his Grandfather lectured spite leaking into his words.

Reaching behind him his grandfather reached for a sheathed weapon racked just above his bed. Motioning for him to come forward, Torashi stood from his knees and made his way to his grandfather's bedside. Attention on the crimson sheath leading into a black tsuba with a matching crimson hilt, though interesting black markings were engraved all over the hilt.

"This katana was the weapon of my father in the second war" His grandfather waited for that to sink in before continuing, "he had it forged by a master blacksmith and seal master in old Uzugakure, while he wasn't worthless, you are my heir and have chosen the life of a shinobi this blade.. No Tsuki no hikari or Tsukikari is entitled to you boy" he said, eyes having a spark in them Torashi had never seen before.

Motioning for him to take it, Torashi almost couldn't feeling the weight and the responsibility of such a weapon, but took the weapon handling it with care. Looking back at his grandfather he saw an intent look on his face seeing this as permission to unsheath it Torashi pulled on the hilt for…nothing to happen.

"What.." Torashi's confusion not being misplaced "Your chakra.. pour your chakra into it" his grandfather instructed as if it was common knowledge "boy the seals only one of our blood can unsheath it" he elaborated nodding Torashi poured his chakra into the hilt feeling a sudden burst of wind as he slid off the sheath now with no resistance revealing a beautiful two toned black and silver blade.

"Woah" Torashi brought a finger to his blade running it along the edge getting a sizable cut along his finger, wincing and pulling his finger back. So sharp, and this metal something's off it's not normal steel he thought in confusion but kept it to himself not risking the old man's ire.

"Now leave and do not die boy, you still are my heir your death cannot be afforded" his grandfather stated as he gave a half hearted glare "Mei-san is in the fields i'm sure you're itching to go to her aren't you?" he mused.

Sheepishly Torashi played with his hair, resheathing Tsukikari and strapping it to his back, and reting his headband around his neck before making his leave toward the fields.

Walking through the large portion of land he and his sister called a training ground he spotted a figure in the distance, a smile gracing his face. Torashi quickened his pace excited to see his big sister.

Sensing his presence Mei turned around, grinning ear to ear. "Tora-Kun! Did you pass?!" she called out to him quickly closing the gap in between them.

The nod of Torashi's head gave her her answer as she gripped him in a bone crushing hug

"My whittle Tora-kun is finally a true man of the Tomiki~" she sang as she peppered him with kisses.

Torashi's big sister Mei Tomiki born just two years older than Torashi but their likeness it was more of like that of twins, her leaf green hair only a few shades lighter than his own her hair adorned in a ponytail rather than down like Torashi, her coal black eyes on full display rather than hidden behind bangs like Torashi. Her green sleeveless battle kimono reached just below her knees, with a black sheathed katana strapped to her back. Torashi and Mei were both alike in the face while Mei looked slightly older and face was more angular. She often had many of the village boys ask for her hand in marriage.

"Hey Tora-kun, is that the sword the old bastard keeps in his room?" she questioned obviously having seen the blade before.

"Yeah Grandfather passed it on to me Mei-nee" Torashi confirmed, fingers brushing on the hilt of his blade strapped to his back.

"Well, you are an "adult" now and a shinobi of konoha.." Mei put a finger to her lip in thought. "I think it's outta time I teach you a jutsu" she spoke sagely.

Torashi's eyes lit up at the word jutsu. What would be Dragon fire?, lightning hands? maybe a water whip Torashi thought as he started shaking in excitement.

"That's the spirit," Mei laughed as she watched him get pumped up. "This jutsu is a rite of passage passed down in our family generation to generation" Mei paused a distant look in her eyes. "Our father taught me this jutsu" she finished a semi serious look upon her face, rare for her.

There was zero way no matter how awesome Nee-chan was for her to master a jutsu at two, letting his thoughts be known he spoke. "Father?.. But he died over twelve years ago. You're only fourteen there's no way you learnt a jutsu at two" Torashi spoke matter of factly crossing his arms and nodding his head.

"Tora-kun… our father…" Mei shook her head, obviously deciding against something, regaining her posture she made a sheepish look rubbing the back of her head. "Yeah yeah our… uncle taught it to me" she stated hopeful that the boy was gullible enough to accept that answer.

Seeing that Mei was obviously hiding something Torashi thought about pressing it further but the excitement for a jutsu distracted him from this.

Making their way to a small pond near the end of the Tomiki's land Mei stepped forward going through a series of hand seals at a slowed pace. 'Snake, ram, monkey, boar, horse, tiger' Torashi recognized. A fire style jutsu Torashi theorized going off the use of the tiger seal.

"Fire style: Great Fireball jutsu" Mei exclaimed as she inhaled as a giant plume of fire forming into a ball came from her mouth, completely evaporating the small pond only leaving a small crater of dried mud behind.

"That was the Great Fireball jutsu, an C rank fire style jutsu." Mei paused making sure he understood, at Torashi's nod in understanding she continued. "While most genin can't perform elemental Jutsu i'm an exception" she gloated puffing her chest out.

Mei-nee is an amazing shinobi Torashi thought to himself as he watched his sister proclaim her greatness. Stepping forward Torashi thought back to the hand seals shown to him and went through a sequence, snake, ram, monkey, boar, horse, tiger, Stopping in the tiger seal Torashi inhaled and copied Mei almost to a T. Feeling the sensation of Heat and smoke gathering in his lungs startled Torashi but he continued exhaling.

"Fire style: Great Fireball jutsu" Torashi called out as he released a small plume of fire from his mouth. Pathetic in comparison to Mei's demonstration. Torashi's head dipped in frustration.

"Tora-kun don't look so down you managed to actually create fire on your first try" she praised ruffling his hair. "While I'd give you more instruction normally my team is going on a B rank, I at the earliest I'll be back in three weeks" she sheepishly informed.

"Okay" Torashi replied, sadness evident in his features, his normally timid personality shining through.

Lowering her head chin resting on his head Mei took on a serious look. "Torashi"

"Yes Mei-nee" he mumbled out, stiffening at the use of his full name.

"You're a Shinobi of Konoha, a man of high birth, you can't keep replying to me as you do. I can't always be there for you, as a shinobi and a man you must be confident and strong if not for the honor of your village, for me" she paused before adding another touch "For the honor of our clan." she finished.

Deep rooted contemplation scores his features. Clan? He thought while an afterthought still sticks out to him, but she was right he needed to be confident and find his backbone, the thought of not having Mei was a scary thought but he needed to be strong he was the heir to their family, a man and a shinobi.

"It's almost time for me to leave Tora-kun, I love you and I will see you soon" she spoke in a sing-song voice a full one eighty from her serious tone moments ago.

Startled Torashi barely had time to rush out an "I love you too be safe" before Mei disappeared in a puff of smoke.

With uncharistic energy Torashi jumped to his feat. I need to improve myself and show Mei-nee my growth, he thought, a fire burning within him. Quickly forming the hand seals for the Fire style: Great Fireball jutsu releasing another puff of fire this time much bigger due to more chakra being poured into it. Unexpected to Torashi but in retrospect would make sense as he dropped to his knees in a coughing fit smoke rushing out of his mouth, causing him to pass out leaving him a twitching mop of green hair.
