Kayla Watts stepped out of her beloved airplane after a very long night of flying to deliver an allosaurus to her boss, Soyona Santos. Kayla opened the cargo hold and motioned for the transport team to remove the caged, tranquilized dinosaur, and she walked over to the blond. Soyona nonchalantly handed Kayla the bag of money, her demeanor lacking in the usual arrogance. Kayla gave her a strange look, "You good? You didn't say anything witty this time." The brunette questioned.

Soyona rolled her eyes, and fidgeted with her bracelet. Her lack of answer worried Kayla further. Soyona could definitely be evil sometimes, and she was into some pretty sketchy stuff, but Kayla had worked for her for years, and they'd developed something that could probably be considered a friendship.

"Are you done for the day? You wanna go home?" Kayla asked. Soyona sighed, and nodded, still refusing to speak.

Kayla put her arm around the smaller woman, and led her back to the car.

"I'll drive." Kayla said, not giving Soyona a chance to argue as she jumped into the drivers seat. Soyona nodded, and claimed her place in the passenger seat.

During the drive home, Kayla noticed the blond woman kept sniffling or stifling coughs, and she began to get suspicious that she may be sick. She thought back to how Soyona had been acting the previous evening, and, she had seemed a little tired. Kayla knew her quite well, especially because they lived together, and she felt a little bad that she hadn't noticed her illness sooner.

"Hey, Soyona... are you feeling ok?" Kayla finally asked, breaking the silence. Soyona sighed, knowing that Kayla was onto her. But, Kayla was shocked when she finally spoke...

"I... may be a little sick..." her voice was severely weak and damaged.

"Oh my gosh, you poor thing. " was Kayla's only response. Soyona continued, clearing her raw throat, "I was coughing all night..."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Kayla asked, giving the blond a soft look.

Soyona coughed into her fist. "I didn't want to wake you..."

Kayla patted her arm sympathetically.

When they arrived at home, Kayla helped the exhausted woman out of the car, and into the run-down apartment building.

She leaned on the wall in the elevator, and Kayla practically carried her the rest of the way; it was obvious she was in desperate need of rest.

Upon entering the apartment, Soyona collapsed onto her bed, as Kayla rubbed her back.

"Do you feel like changing clothes?" Kayla asked. Soyona shrugged and gave a soft whimper into the pillow. Kayla walked over to the dresser and grabbed an old T-shirt, and plopped it beside Soyona on the bed. "Change into something comfortable, I'm gonna go get you some water." the dark haired woman said as she left the bedroom.

Soyona groaned and forced herself to stand up; clumsily changing her clothes before burrowing into the blankets on the bed. She was shivering badly now, her spiking fever making her chilled. When Kayla returned, she sat the water bottle on the nightstand before playing with the woman's pretty, blond hair.

"C-cold..."she whined.

"I know, I'm sorry." Kayla comforted. It was very out of character for Soyona to complain, so Kayla was definitely worried.

"Try and drink some water, hm?"

Soyona shook her head.

"Why not?"

"It... it hurts too much... my throat feels like I'm swallowing knives..." Soyona said, her already weak voice breaking.

Kayla pressed her hand to the younger woman's forehead and cheeks. "You're boiling." She commented.

Soyona's hazel eyes welled up with pained tears as she once again forced herself to swallow. Kayla gently pressed the bottle to her lips and she took a small sip, but immediately, she was letting out weak, raspy sobs.

Kayla was very worried now; Soyona never cried. Every worst case scenario was running through her mind as she considered the severe throat pain...

Tonsillitis? Severe Strep? Has she cut her throat somehow and has an infection?

Kayla found herself feeling very overprotective now. She gently pulled Soyona into a sitting position, and pushed the pillows behind her for support. She then turned on her phone flashlight.

"Let me see your throat." She ordered in her best "mom voice"

Soyona did as she was told, and Kayla shone the flashlight into her throat. It was extremely red and inflamed; obviously very painful, and of course, she instantly noticed the signature white patches of a severe case of strep throat.

Kayla sighed. She knew she'd have to get antibiotics for her, but, in the area of Malta they lived in, medical care wasn't exactly readily available. But she knew she didn't have a choice but to try.

"C'mon, we have to get to a hospital. You need antibiotics." Kayla said. Soyona wanted to protest, as she really didn't feel like getting out of bed, but Kayla was swaddling her in the blanket and scooping her into her arms before she could. Kayla also grabbed the water bottle and a few food items before carrying the sick girl to the car.

Kayla tried to make Soyona as comfortable as possible in the car; she reclined her seat and bundled her up in the blanket, and she took her jacket off and allowed her to hold it for some extra comfort. Kayla smiled a bit at her work; she thought to herself that she'd love to be that cozy on car rides. Soyona fell asleep nearly instantly, and Kayla started the car.

Kayla had no idea how long she'd have to drive before she could find a reliable hospital; she wanted her friend to have the best care possible. She was happy, however, that Soyona was sleeping so peacefully.

Kayla had been driving for about four hours when she finally arrived at a hospital she trusted. It, thankfully, wasn't crowded, and she carried Soyona, who was still sleeping, inside. She had kept her wrapped in the blanket, as to not disturb her sleep. They were admitted pretty quickly, and Soyona began to wake up as Kayla laid her in the hospital bed.

"Hey..." Kayla greeted her with a gentle smile. Soyona smiled weakly, and snuggled into her bed, still feeling very tired.

Kayla gently took her hand, and said lovingly,

"It's gonna be ok, now."
