Chapter 2: Exploring The New Me.
'This is very, very, extremely bad.' i think as below me stands a clearly very young Summer Rose, 'Am I destined to interact with important people?! I'm not ready to!' I want to be at least Level 400 before I see Ozpin in the streets.
Thinking quickly I get away from the edge and re-equip my masks and Fedora before taking a running jump into the trees hoping to get away from Ruby's Mom before I change anything too much. Of course, like many things in my life it's far from easy as when I look behind me I see a glimpse of white in the corner of my eye and I take a hard right to try and lose her.
It doesn't work as she appears fifty metres in front of me with her rifle aimed at my feet. In response I heft my kraber to aim just to the left of her ear and fire, seeing her dive out of the way to avoid the Bullet travelling at Mach 0.23 I speed up and switch out my Kraber for the Needle Rifle and fire into some trees just ahead of me hoping to use the needles explosive tendencies to collapse the trees on her to make my getaway smoother.
But it seems like I used all my luck for today pulling off trick shots in the Dungeon as she quickly dashes under the trees as they fall rendering my efforts to basically nothing. So after thinking through my remaining options and coming to a clear conclusion I turn left and activate Sneak before hiding in a tree surrounding a clearing and stowing the needle rifle for my kukri.
My plan seems to work as Summer walks into the clearing and looks around. As she's distracted I use Observe on her to see precisely how fucked I am.
Name: Summer Rose

'So she's a bit over double my level. Damn.' I think as she continues to look around seemingly scanning the trees for me, knowing that she's Ruby's Mother I'm guessing that she's primarily a speed type so I can't outrun her, but maybe I could outlast her. Checking my Stats I decide to pump ten points into VIT and I prepare myself to charge at her.
Only to see her looking into my mask, feeling her silver eyes boring into me is a weird feeling, like I'm being judged. I don't like it so I deactivate Sneak and jump down to the forest floor.
Regarding me curiously she says something that completely floors me. "I like your mask, can we be friends?" I just look at her for a second and raise my hand in a thumbs up as she starts walking towards me without care that I'm currently holding a very large knife.
She stops as I move back and I put my kukri into my coat and sneakily into my inventory before taking out my Needle Rifle and holding it carefully making no sudden movements.
She takes one look at my DMR before literally teleporting next to me examining it like a child on Christmas. "Oh my Oum, this gun looks so cool! Where did you get it? What are these pink things? Are they dust crystals? I've never seen pink dust before. What do they do?" she keeps asking questions and prodding it before I fully process this and leap away from her and take aim at her and fire a round just left of her in a warning.
Diving away from the shot again before looking at the tree that just exploded and looking back at me, she responds. "Okay, no touchy. Got it," she says, raising her hands in surrender before again calmly walking towards me this time a lot slower and more exaggerated.
I lower the rifle but keep it ready and lower myself into a seiza and place my weapon on the ground in front of me as a sign of peace. She stops and sloppily copies my sitting position and places her rifle in front of her as I just stare at her trying to think of ways to get out of here without her following me.
Feeling bad at taking pot shots at her I decided to start the conversation as best I could, "I am sorry for firing at you but, I do not appreciate people chasing me with hostile intentions." I say as respectfully as possible.
In response she looks a bit sheepish, "I understand and I'm sorry for chasing you, I was just curious about why you would jump off the wall, are you a criminal or something?" she questions and I shake my head.
"I'm not a criminal, no. I just wanted to get out of Vale as quickly as possible," I say hopefully cryptically. She just tilts her head rather cutely if I do say so, "why would you want to get out of Vale? It's great! There's so much to do and see!" by Tyche her adorableness is overwhelming.
I shake my head in response and gesture around us, "I prefer to wander around. Seeing what nature can offer me. Besides, you'll learn quickly that there are eyes and ears everywhere in Vale and rarely do they have good intentions." she stays silent for a long while seeming to think over my words and I sit there basking in the atmosphere of the forest.
After what felt like half an hour but was in reality just ten minutes I use Observe on her again as when I used it last time I wasn't processing anything but her Level.
Name: Summer Rose
Level: 27
Race: Canine Faunus
Class: Sniper
HP: 154
MP: 200
AP: 154
I'm shocked when I see her race and look back at her in astonishment, 'she's a Faunus?! The show always described her as Human!' she seems to notice me looking at her and tilts her head as a pair of wolf ears pop up. "What? Is there something on my face?" she questions and I shake my head.
"It's nothing, you just reminded me of someone I used to know." I lied smoothly. She squints at me in suspicion before speaking up again, "what did you mean about Eyes and Ears in Vale?" she questions and I think about my answer for a minute before responding.
"Vale is under the control of a council who answers to a man with… questionable motives," I say and she nods like it makes sense. I look at her like she's the craziest thing I've ever seen so she explains, "So a Villain is in control Vale! That must be it!" suddenly she's standing up one hand holding her Rifle on her hip while the other is pointed in the air.
I can't help bursting out in laughter at the prospect of Summer Rose, the future best Huntress and Mother of the ever adorable Ruby Rose thinking that Ozpin is a 'Villain'.
She looks over to me and pouts as I roll around laughing my masked head off, "hey! What's so funny? Vale is in danger! I need to stop it!" hearing this I laugh harder for the next few minutes before sobering up and explaining as best I could.
"What's funny is the fact that you see the world like that, good and evil, heroes and villains, black and white. The world ain't like that, it's more 'shades of grey' than anything else." as I say this, I take out my Kraber from inside my coat alongside its scope and begin calibrating and adjusting settings.
She huffs and turns away in seeming denial of my words but I can see her looking at me as if contemplating what I said before speaking up again.
"So what? Even so, if Vale is in the control of someone like that we should get rid of them, not run away." at this I look at her, all amusement in my voice gone as I lay down the truth, "if I were strong enough, I would remove that man's head. But unfortunately, I'm nowhere near ready to take him on, not sure I want to either. For all the mistakes that man has made in his life, he's a decent guy that just wants to help in his own way." I explain and she looks at me weirdly.
"That doesn't mean he isn't a manipulative bastard though." I sigh tiredly and stow my Kraber away, its scope attached and calibrated to my liking.
Then Summer says something that once again floors me, "It's Headmaster Ozpin, isn't it?" I look over and she looks terrified. I only nod in response before standing up and beginning to walk away.
At this, she jogs over, "hey, where are you going?" I shrug and gesture in the direction I'm walking.
"Wherever I want. I'm not one to stick around for long, and besides, someone has to get stronger if the world is going to change. And if I need to be that person then so be it." I say before taking off in a run and activating Sneak before taking out my Needle Rifle and firing behind me to deter her from following.
After the Needles detonate I shout behind me, "Good luck Summer Rose, stay alive." with that I increase my speed heading due west in the direction of the nearest ocean.

Several hours later I stop to rest and collect myself. I realised part-way through the journey that I don't even know why I'm going to an ocean, maybe it's just me needing a wide open space to think or maybe my love of swimming is getting to me but either way.
I remember from the many fanfictions I read when I was younger that there was always a very simple rule for under-levelled Gamers, Stay the fuck away from the ocean. There are things bigger and more deadly than the grimm wyvern in the water.
Shaking my head to steer clear of that particular chain of thought I look to the sky, seeing the broken moon staring back at me and making up my mind to set up camp.
Making camp isn't that difficult all things considered, just dig a metre-wide hole, line it with random stones I find here and there, blast a tree into sticks and sawdust, put the wood into the hole, light it on fire with a small fire dust crystal and boom, campfire. Next, I take out a small pile of fire dust crystals and spread them around the outer edges of the camp and set up a few simple snares and noise maker traps to alert me of any incoming grimm. Finally, I use the leaves and larger sticks to make a makeshift tent along with some rope I found during my wandering around Vale.
Feeling happy with my campsite I sit by the fire and occasionally feed it some firewood to keep it going while simultaneously taking out my Kukri and sharpening some particularly long and thick sticks into primitive spears for use later.
After a while, I hear one of my snare traps go off and a screech pierces the air. Instantly on guard, I ready my kukri and carefully make my way to the trap, only to find a rather large rabbit shuffling and trying to chew away at its bindings. Still, on guard, I look around, scanning the area with Observe and Detect Bloodlust active to find any threats. Finding none I look back to the trap to see the rabbit going limp, probably playing dead. Not amused I ready my kukri, take the rodent by the ears and slice its throat open. Next, I undo the trap, freeing the rabbit's corpse, reset the snare to its original state and walk back to my camp to prepare my kill for contrary to popular belief, skinning a rabbit is both harder and easier than you might think. First, you make a cut going from the chin down to the groin, next, you remove the organs, personally, I like to use them as bait for future traps so I stowed them in my inventory for later.
Finally, you go to the rear of the rabbit and use the incision you made earlier and use your knife to peel away the skin and fur. Be careful during this part as any mistakes will result in tears in the resulting pelt rendering it all but useless.
By now I've got the rabbit ready to be cooked and all I need to do is season it with some basic seasonings I bought in Vale, just some barebones things like parsley, sage, coriander and basil to bring out the flavour. After that, it's been nicely seasoned I use one of the sticks I sharpened earlier as a makeshift spit and soon the sweet aroma of cooking rabbit fills the air.
I lean back and look into the night sky enjoying the stars and breath deeply to unwind all the stress in my body and relax all while keeping an eye on my food as it roasts.
After my meal is cooked and eaten I put a few more logs onto the fire to keep it going throughout the night and retreat to my tent, Gamer's Body may keep me from getting tired but I like sleeping so I do just that.

I wake up several hours later to the sounds of my noise maker traps going off and I'm instantly out of my tent with my needle rifle in my hands seeing three ursa minors emerging from the underbrush. Without giving them time to react I send five shots into the shoulder of the left one and swap out the rifle for the kukri and charging the centre one, sliding beneath its legs and slashing its rear knees as I do before coming up and lunging for the right one and slicing deep into its thick throat.
As I wrench my blade free the needles in the first ursa detonate and I rush it to deliver the killing blow by stabbing it between the eyes. As it collapses I switch out my kukri for my kraber and a fire dust crystal. Tossing the latter I wait until it is right in front of the final ursa before firing at the still midair crystal and detonate it causing the bear grimm to lose its head. Standing up straight I stow my kraber and loot the corpses as they disappear finding some more fire dust to replace the one I lost along with some needle rifle ammo and, strangely enough, a manual on zoid piloting.
Stowing them away I go around my camp disarming the traps and gathering the fire dust crystal that I spread around before burying my fire hole and burning my tent after gathering the rope from it.
After my camp no longer looks like a camp I take out my map and compass before deciding which way to go. 'Patch seems nice from what little I've seen of it but getting there will be hard considering it's an island. Same with mistral, atlas and menagerie. The only viable options, for now, are going back to Vale and probably getting recruited by Ozpin or going southwest to Vacuo… a desert…' at this point I just shrug and follow the compass southwest to the desert nation of Vacuo.
Along the way, I occasionally find and kill a grimm or two with them not really posing much of a threat but I take the encounters seriously all the same after all over-confidence is the killer of most gamers and I will not lose myself to my strength.
Other than that the only major event would've been finding a random cave with an Adept Apathy/Gheist dungeon in it that I immediately got the fuck away from because nope. I know exactly what apathies evolve into and I do not want to fight that demonic horseman abomination!
All in all the first leg of the journey ended with me somehow setting up my camp on a cliff that I could just about see Vale's wall from off to the east. While setting up a perimeter of noise makers I baited a few snare traps with the rabbit organs from yesterday in the hopes of catching something bigger like a badger or at most a wolf.
After setting up a hammock halfway up some rather large trees for safety I begin with the campfire. After blasting another tree down with the needle rifle and stripping it bare I dig a larger hole than last time, line it with rocks and set up three sturdy sticks in a spit for when I catch something. Just in time too as the sun sets just after I climb into my makeshift hammock to relax under the emerging stars looking out over the forest below. After a while of just laying there, I get bored and grab one of the thicker and longer sticks as well as my kukri to sharpen said sticks while I gently swing back and forth, while doing this I check my stats page to see what's changed since I last checked it.

A minor improvement to most of my basic skills I could understand but what I didn't get was why my Heat Resistance went up, one level or no I haven't been near any fire-based attacks since I got here. Then it hit me like a cargo ship, 'the campfires! They've been passively increasing my Heat Resistance!' as I realise this I stop what I'm doing as I hear one of my un-baited snares get tripped and I'm out of my hammock, kukri in hand and peering down at one of my first advanced enemies.
Down below me looking very annoyed as it swings gently from left to right is an alpha beowulf. Now I will say the show makes these things seem like heavily armoured beowulves but I can see the difference between the two as clear as day. For one, while there is an increase in bone armour it's primarily covering vital areas like the head, chest and knees. The second difference I can see is in the size of them. While the regular beowulf stands at about 6'4 on its hind legs, the alpha easily eclipses that by a head and shoulders at 6'9.
Not to mention the spikes on the things back because holy shit. They each were about the size of Crocea Mors' blade (pre volume 4) so you can understand that here I was about sixteen feet away from this monstrous canine internally split between 'holy shit that thing looks awesome, ima kill it dead!' and 'how in the Holy Can Of Pepsi am I supposed to kill that?!'
During my inner debating, the beast in question finally spotted me and roared with rage and I casually tossed an Observe at it to show me again how weak I am only to be pleasantly surprised by what I read.

First of all that HP stat is a bit ludicrous but I suppose that grimm are a bit more durable than humans so I don't really care as I know it can't take a magazine worth of Kraber shots. Second, Level 17? Interesting. This should be entertaining since all the other enemies I've faced lately have been Level 5-10. I idly wonder what the loot is going to look like.
Taking out a few throwing knives I carefully aim at the joints of the thing and launch them with a decent level of precision as I nail it in the knees and shoulders rendering them useless as I take out my kukri and leap from my Hammock onto the rope holding the beast and let go falling down as I position my knife in such a way as to bisect the grimm from groin to snout. This isn't without challenge as the budget werewolf starts flailing wildly with what mobility it still has. I'm not deterred though as right before I come into contact with it I take out my kraber and shoot it in the chin before stowing it away and following through with my kukri. As the blade glides through the shadow beast's flesh like butter I reposition my body so I can hook my feet around its neck and flip myself up and grab onto the rope. Finally, my kukri slices through the head and in a jaw-dropping feat of acrobatics I wound my feet around the dying wolf's neck and twist my body around and up its bisected body and as the two halves separate I lunge upwards and get my hand into the snare's loop and hoist myself up.
As the beast's body disintegrates midair I swing over to one of the trees my hammock is tied to and climb up into said swinging bed structure. Watching the loot appear on the floor was a very new experience for me as my opponents weren't usually midair when I killed them and their loot appeared where their corpses disappeared.
After calming down a bit I started laughing at how awesome I was before getting back out of the hammock and carefully climbing down to the forest floor to collect my reward for the act of awesomeness I just pulled off.
Upon reaching the small stack of items I toss a small fire dust crystal at the unlit campfire and watch as it blazes to life bathing the area in a soft warmth and providing a good amount of light for me to work in properly. Looking back at the pile I begin sorting it into piles of dust, ammo, lien and good stuff. Most of it is the basic stuff with some outliers in the form of lightning, ice and earth dust crystals among the pile of fire dust. Another outlier in the regular things gets me really excited as hidden among the regular kraber ammo rests a single magazine of explosive ammunition.
In the 'good stuff' pile I find another kukri along with two arm holsters for them, a few throwing knives to add to my impressive collection, a skill book for Blacksmithing which I promptly toss next to Aura and Kyber Finder and another manual this time for piloting Metal Gear Rex. Tossing that manual with the Zoid one I move on to the final find in the pile, that being a strange orangey-brown orb that I kind of recognise. I pick it up to find that it thumbs slightly at my touch and as I look closer it hits me.
'Is this a lacrima?' i think and a text box pops up.
Would you like to learn Earth Dragon Slayer Magic? Y/N
Stunned for a minute at the sheer absurdity of what exactly I'm holding I absentmindedly hit 'yes' and the lacrima bursts into motes of light like a skill book. Suddenly I'm hit with what seems like several years worth of knowledge and I instinctively lay down to attempt to process this when another text box appears.
You have learned Earth Dragon Slayer Magic. You're Magic container has been unlocked. You have gained the permanent debuff: Dragon Slayer's Curse. MP has risen to 4000. MPR has risen to 1.78/per second. HP has risen to 1124. AP has risen to 1124. APR has risen to 0.45. Title earned: Earth Dragon Slayer. General Stats increased.
I'm still trying to process the flow of Dragon Slayer Techniques but I manage to dismiss the text box before closing my eyes in an effort to process faster and falling unconscious.

As I finish reading my jaw drops and I let out a tiny strangled cry as any hopes I had of not becoming disgustingly overpowered so early and getting my shit stomped in because of my arrogance were removed from my body and metaphorically tossed out the fifty-third story window.
The best I could do now was become even more powerful and attempt to temper the God complex I was sure I could see on the horizon. As this happens I sit up and move to the fire so I could tend to it.
Idly going back to sharpening sticks with one of my kukris I reflect on what is to come. Here I am around twenty to thirty years before cannon, I've subtly informed Summer Rose that fully trusting Ozpin is a bad idea, I've become disgustingly powerful very quickly and will most definitely suffer for it in the future and I'm on my way to Vacuo in search of entertainment and strength.
Somehow I need to prevent Summer Rose's death while also NOT becoming the father of Ruby Rose, try to save the Spring Maiden before Raven finds and murders her, try to save Amber from Cinder and her two stooges while flying under Ozpin's radar and finally ensure both Penny and Pyrrha survive the Vytal Festival in twenty to thirty years time.
I have a long and tiring road ahead of me, it's best to start now. But before I do anything I hear one of my baited snare traps go off and I grab both kukris and hold them in a defensive stance while advancing toward the trap to see what I caught.
And caught some I did as right there before me was unmistakably a regular wolf. A rather large one, yes, but still a wolf. As it hung there snarling at me and thrashing around I holstered my kukris and took out a throwing knife before throwing it with pinpoint accuracy straight through the roof of the mouth and into the brain, killing the animal instantly.
As I approached to remove the body from the snare however I heard snarling from behind me as Detect Bloodlust pinged five times. Grinning behind my masks I slowly took out my kukris again and turned around to face the rest of the pack staring at me ready to rip me to shreds.
In response, I held up my kukris and dashed at them, in the blink of an eye the leader was dying with its throat slashed, the leftmost one was on the floor with its forelegs slashed from behind and the one next to it was stabbed through the eye, dead on the spot. I reappeared behind what was left of the pack before holstering my kukris and using Sneak to approach them from behind and snap both their necks at the same time.
As I stalked toward the last wolf that was staring at me in primal terror I uttered a prayer to Artemis for these animals and ended it the same way as the first one. Throwing knife through the mouth.
Tying them up with some extra rope I carried the wolves back to my camp to prepare them for consumption. After removing the organs and pelts and seasoning them to perfection I speared the first one on the spit and set it above the fire to roast and put the rest in my inventory for later.
Waiting for the wolf to roast, I climb back up to my hammock and watch the stars a bit more and think about how far I've come in such a short amount of time, how far I'll go, how strong I've gotten and how strong I'll be.
I take out my kraber and just hold it like it's my only line to sanity. After a while I jump back down and check on my food. Finding it good enough to eat I take it off the fire and dig in with vigour.
After I'm done I re-arm the snare and put out the fire before getting in my hammock and just lay there. Sleep won't come to me tonight and I'm happy gazing at the stars and carving sticks, so I do just that. All under the broken moon…
Chapter 2: end
AN: hello there. Now i'm sure your all about to scroll down to the review section and toss accusations and hate at me (hint, please review. I'm really fucking lonely) but my madness does indeed have method people, just trust me. Our hero will stagnate for a few chapters as his journey to Vacuo progresses before he gets slapped around by a big boi grimm and then as all gamers do, he will grind. Hope you enjoy, please like, follow and review and thank you to my Mother, Sammy-Jay Potter, for beta-ing for me and letting me bounce ideas with her. She doesn't write herself but she's brilliant to talk to so go ahead and thank her in the reviews.
