Lessons of the Past
Bloodwalker had decided to follow the strange Rainwing, Loyalty, he had assessed her as a negligible threat. If needed, he could kill her if needed, that would definitely be a big start to this mission, killing an outcast, and if they found the body, that would help his case.
They eventually came upon a small hut, circular in shape. Based on how well she navigated the dark, he could only reason she had been in the area for a while, memorizing the layout. Loyalty went into her home through the door and then asked, "Excuse me, are you going to come inside or not?"
Bloodwalker pondered his options and then said, "I am inside." Loyalty looked affronted.
"No your not. I'm standing in the center of my room, and yet your voice is coming from a distance beyond the circumference of the house."
Bloodwalker's mind spun. "How do you know mathematics? I thought Rainwings didn't have schools." he asked in confusion.
"There used to be, before Granduer decided to pass the position to Splendor to try to make her a suitable candidate for the queen position when she comes to power. All of Granduer's daughters were incompetent, so she is passing on the position of queen. Agh, why am I telling you this, I am famished. I guess when your over a hundred, things seem to shift quickly"
Bloodwalker noted this bit of information in his brain, maybe Morrowseer would appreciate this information.
"I have a question, how were the queens before Granduer. Was she just a very serious queen, or were they always like this?" Bloodwalker pressed, determined to glean as much information on her as possible before killing her.
"Well, I was born in the reign of Queen Marigold, the mother of Granduer, daughter of Queen Toucan. They were ok queens, but unfortunately, a war between us and the Mudwings had broken out over the swampy marshlands. Marigold argued that since the rainforest extended into the swamp, the marshes belonged to the Rainwings. Queen Egret said that it was the Mudwings should have it since the swamp extended past the line of trees, a war ensued, Granduer rose to power, and won a considerable amount of victories, but after too many losses, she recalled all Rainwings to the definitive line of trees the rainforest was considered as. The swampy trees were cut down, so that no Rainwing Queen could ever claim those lands as theirs again. Oh, there I go again, rambling off. Sorry about that."
"Oh no, you have been very informative. I would have been worse without that tangent." Bloodwalker responded. He now knew who this queen was. He walked in, and calculated what was in it at a fast speed.
Loyalty started to pour a sort of tea like substance into 2 cups, which was wierd as he thought she lived alone.
"You seem very well equipped to have 2 people here. You are an outcast."
I built this house when I was forced out. My husband stayed with me, and my daughter stayed behind to stay with the community. She had an egg, and I traced her traits to a specific dragon of interest. Her name, I believe, is Tamarin. She is my biological granddaughter."
Loyalty rambled on.
Bloodwalker noticed how the sheets had appeared to not hsve been moved in a long time.
"Is he?" Bloodwalker hesitantly asked.
"Yes, died about a year ago, right before that hatchling showed up."
Bloodwalker's eyes narrowed. Now he knew Secretkeeper had someone to do with that hatchling.
He took a sip of the strange tea, deciding to be polite, he was going to kill her, so no use passing up a free meal. The tea seemed to sharpen his eyesight. The world seemed to come into higher resolution. Loyalty seemed to notice.
"Yes, this tea, made from a certain sap, allows permenant enhanced seeing, although I have to rake it regularly as my eyesight seems determined to leave me. Thats a nice black color your scales are."
Bloodwalker's blood ran cold. She could not be allowed to live. He thanked her and waited patiently as she turned around to get some food out. He slowly brought out one of his chakrams, and lined it up with the back of her head, a direct hit to the skull would not do well, but accounting gravity into the equation, this would cause it to hit her neck, into her jugular. Winding back, he threw the chakram.
Time seemed to slow down, he watched as her tail whipped out, and snagged the chakram out of the air through the hole in the middle. Quickly recovering, he winded up for another one, and Loyalty shook the chakram off her tail and it shot around his arm, stopping his throw. The tail compressed, almost enough to snap bone.
Bloodwalker started groaning in pain as the tail's vice grip pressed into his arm. "Ow, ow, ow.". Loyalty seemingly did not care. She turned around after about 5 minutes and what he saw completely changed his outlook on her. These were not the eyes of a senile old dragon, these were different.
Loyalty laughed lightly, as her eyes bored holes into him. "From one assassin to another, that was a horrible attempt."
Wow, this chapter fell flat. Schoolwork is taking its toll. Peace out, and lets hope for better next time.
