Chapter 1: Training

Garreg Mach Monastery

It was another day for class at the Garreg Mach Monsatery. The students came into the class room. One in particular was the Blue Lions House and the Golden Deer House. Many of the classmates were getting ready for history class; Byleth came in to supervise the history class.

"Good morning, how are we doing, class?" Byleth bowed.

"Good morning, Ms. Byleth!" the students raised their hands.

Byleth wrote something on the blackboard using some chalk and said to her students, "Today, we are studying the history of Magvel and it's history with the demon Formortiis. I trust you all have your history books?" The students showed their books. "Fine." Byleth nodded.

One student, Dedue asked, "If I may be so bold as to inquire, why did the once humble and proud knight of Renais, Orson decide to turn coat?"

Byleth turned her gaze to the Duscur man, "That's for you to look into." She clapped her hands, "It's time for the lesson. So, you may look into the history books for some answers. When the test comes up, don't try to cheat."

For forty minutes, the students looked into their history books and sheets of papers with where to fill the blanks for answers. Sylvain looked into the suspicions over the death and sudden return of Vigarde who was reanimated by his son as a puppet ruler. Ingrid looked in her book and saw images of an intense battle that destroyed the Jehenna Hall and the death of its queen, Ismaire and her former lover Carlyle.

When Byleth's little clock rang, the lesson was over. Byleth declared "That's all!" The students turned in their work for Byleth to grade.

Suddenly, the monastery's bell rang. The students ran out to find Seteth. The green-haired instructor called out, "Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for this month's training session. Therefore, the Blue Lions will report to Dimitri, the Golden Deers to Claude and the Black Eagles to Edelgard."

Outside the monastery, the students gathered to meet their house heads Dimitri, Claude and Edelgard to prepare to head in the woods. Edelgard stood her axe up, "Good afternoon. It's time for training. We are conducting war games to see who can survive the longest, each of you will be armed with wooden weapons. If you get hit, you''re out of the game."

Dimitri pulled out a wooden lance which is made to be harmless, "My Blue Lions, we'll head into the woods and try to catch out prey by surprise like lions."

Claude chuckled and set an arrow with a harmless button on his bowstring. "Just be careful. Even if you get hit by arrows with buttons on them, you are still dead and head back to base."

After making the necessary preparations each house went into the woods. In the woods, the young Ashe Ubert had to keep his wits about. While taking the glasses-wearing student Ignatz out of the game, he did not realize he was being watched. As Ashe moved to shake Ignatz's hand, he heard purring in the bushes. "Hey, did you hear something?!" Ignatz jumped.

Ashe turned his heads and saw the bushes were... empty. "This had better be a practical joke planned by Gwendal." the bush-like white haired student insisted.

Elsewhere Dedue blocked some attacks by some Golden Deer students, he hit them with his wooden axe harmlessly to take them out of the game. He did not see he was being watched by something that made cat-like sounds. Dedue turned his head to stay alert, but continued the war games.

Sylvain swiftly dodged Ferdinand von Aegir's strikes as swiftly as a lion could to escape an eagle's talons. As the to students locked weapons, Sylvain turned his head to see what he could suspect are human eyes watching in the bushes. He took his eye off his opponent and Ferdinand did a harmless strike to the Gautier student. "Not what I expected from a man next in line to be Margrave of House Gautier."

"Oh sure." Sylvain rubbed his hair, but moved to walk away. "It's not that. It feels like we're being watched in the woods this afternoon."

"Whatever it is... You're still out of the game, head on home." Ferdinand patted his opponent's shoulder humbly.

Bernadetta was whimpering trying to grip her bow. "I can't believe I agreed to do this...!" Linhardt yawned, "If you'd like to complain, take it up with Catherine." Like Sylvain and Ashe, they were also being watched by the same eyes that their classmates were being watched by. One bandit spotted the resting young students and prepared to stick his axe into them while they were unattentive. He snickered by the pink eyes that were watching the students jumped the bandit and carried him/her away into the woods to be eaten.

The Varley student gasped, "EEEEEEEP!"

Linhardt wanted to shirk his studies and get rest, but two wooden lances hit them. It was Ingrid of the Galatea House.

Elsewhere, Dimitri was with another red headed student male. "This is your first time to prepare for actual combat. Getting reckless could get you killed."

The student fidgeted, "Sire Dimitri, this is my first training session and who knows what could be lurking in the woods..."

Suddenly, a bandit aimed his bow and arrow at Dimitri. "Goodbye, Blaiddyd lion..." the bandit smirked. He was about to loose his arrow when, a shadowy figure pounced him; It clawed his face with the hand claws as if like swords. The student shrieked and screamed, "Dimitri, we're being watched!"

The blonde house leader readied his own wooden lance and said, "I'll handle this." He walked into the woods, looking around to survey his surroundings. To him, it was going to be one hell of a training session at the academy. Some such as his uncle Rufus were clamoring to rule Faerghus instead of Dimitri. Steps later, Dimitir saw the dead brigand who tried to snipe him.

Dimitri examined the body, "Those are no ordinary wounds." he saw the side of the man's neck was cut open. "Carotid artery severed, no hope of salvation." he tapped and saw what looked to be animal saliva mixed with his blood. "Maybe he tried to put saliva on his wounds?" He saw the bandit's chest had been cut several times, "No ordinary swords could do it. Not even Bergliez's gauntlets." He looked around and saw the shadowy figure spying on his classmates.

"You there, come into the light!" Dimitri called out.

The figured did so with a lion-like pounce. Dimitri could tell what the figure's plan was. He dodged what looked like a whip, only it was a tail. It wasn't a horsetail. Dimitri gasped and dodged several claw slashes using the reflexes of a lion. He readied his wooden lance to see if he can make out who the assailant is. Sure enough, his suspicions were right, he saw what killed the brigand; It looked female and it was a puma standing on backfeet which is unusual for lion standards. It was bereft of clothes. She had medium breasts, a belly button, purple eyes and hair in the front and back.

"What the hell kind of lion are you?" Dimitri questioned.

"I'm... Bagi." the lioness introduced herself.

Dimitri stepped forward keeping his lance trained on her, "Give me one reason why I shouldn't yell for my friends."

"I was searching for someone to care for me, and love me. So I was rested in the woods for a while stalking anyone who could be a hostile to me. You stopped your attack first."

Dimitri held a hand out, "Well since we've met, let's shake on it and be on our merry way." Bagi looked at the Blaiddyd blonde leader and instead of shaking his hand, she licked his face two times.

"In case you didn't know, my name is Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, the next in line to become king of Faerghus." Dimitri bowed his head.

Bagi giggled as she rolled on her back and said, "I'm so glad!"

Sylvain walked by and called "Dimitri, looks like I lost the challenge. Look me up when we've-" he gasped and Bagi growled showing sharp teeth. But Dimitri held a hand to stop her from attacking.

Dimitri explained, "Sylvain, this is... Bagi. I found her while I was training in the woods."

Dedue ran to his house leader to check up on him, "Dimitri, are you alright?" he was a bit distracted by the naked Bagi who was stretching like a feline.

"I'm fine, Dedue. I'd like you to meet this... pink... stray cat." Dimitri pointed his hand at Bagi who went to all fours.

"My name is Bagi. I lived in these woods for days." Bagi purred.

The Duscur student was surprised, "A cat that can talk?"

Bagi stood up on her back feet and walked, "And walk like us?" Sylvain inquired.

"That is the case." Dimitri nodded. With Bagi bereft of clothing, Dimitri had a suggestion, "Sylvain, I didn't want to say this but... give Bagi your student clothes; We'll make it up to you later."

Sylvain shrugged and said "Alright."

A minute later, Sylvain was down to his boxers while Bagi was wearing the black student clothes Sylvain wore. She even made a hole in the pants for her tail.

"This uniform is a little black but... How do I look?" Bagi asked as she twirled.

Dimitri, "Like a new student for the Officer's Academy."

"Thanks!" Bagi set her paws together.

Suddenly, axes were flying towards Dimitri and he saw five more bandits rushing towards them. One bandit said, "Alright, let's go wild! Steal from the Officer's Academy as much as you can!" The leading bearded bandit commanded.

Dimitri readied his wooden lance, but Bagi glowed her eyes and charged at the bandits on all fours. One bandit swung his axe, but was swept off his feet by her tail, and she snapped his neck with it. Two more ran at the pink puma, but the no-mere stray cat roared and slashed her claws on their faces. Dimitri knocked down the fourth bandit with his wooden lance allowed Bagi to tear the thug's throat out with her teeth.

The one who gave the commands, Kostas fidgeted. "What the hell are you?"

Bagi walked to the bandit leader ready to pounce him. "Let's just say I'm no ordinary stray cat."

Kostas dropped his axe and ran with his arms swinging in the air. Bagi wanted to give chase with a growl but Dimitri stopped her. "There will be another time, Bagi."

"But, Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd...!" the puma complained, but Dimitri cut her off. "The Iron King Thieves are known to chase down traveling packs. They try to catch students by surprise. We've been able to knock down several of their henchmen but their leader Kostas is said to let his troops do the fighting for him. We'll handle him another day; So would you like to stay in the monastery for a while? And address as Dimitri if you have to."

Bagi looked at Dimitri, then Sylvain, then Ashe who was coming to join his superior. Bagi answered sharply, "Okay, it's not like I have any choice. I'll come with you, Dimitri."

The war games continued with Bagi fighting alongside the Blue Lions. She knocked out several of the Black Eagles with her tail surprising even Ferdinand. Eventually, Claude signaled a surrender sign and the Blue Lions one the contest. Bagi was praised by the Blue Lion students.

A blonde with hair tied in a ribbon greeted Bagi, "My name is Mercedes von Martritz. I'm one of the healers of the Blue Lions. And you seem... pink for a lion."

Bagi giggled, "That's because I am. I was born... a little different."

Dimitri bowed, "I'm certain there are some who will not trust at first. But if we work together, maybe you can earn that trust on the field, Bagi."

"I'll be so happy to hear that!" Bagi cheered with excitement.

The Blue Lions and their newfound student made their way back to the Officers Academy. Bagi knew she was going to be in for a long stay as her life is full of surprises.
