Morningpaw wasn't sure what was going on as she followed Whitepaw out of their den and joined the assembling cat's outside in the clearing as Crookedstar made a summons. Though from what Morningpaw could see in their pricked ears and shining eyes, all the RiverClan cats seemed to know what was going to happen.
"It can't be today." Whitepaw murmured to himself, making Morningpaw feel more lost.
Though her confusion cleared up when Shadepaw, along with her friends, Mosspaw and Emberpaw, came to sit with them.
"I can't believe that Silverpaw is becoming a warrior and not me!" Shadepaw ranted, as the two sisters listened to her in silence. "I bet this is because her father is the leader and he's doing it early for her benefit."
Morningpaw felt angered on her friend's behalf, "or maybe it's because she's older than you and can do more."
The very dark gray apprentice whipped her head around and hissed at Morningpaw, the hostility was clear in green eyes but Morningpaw didn't care, she was defending her friend from defamation.
Whitepaw snorted at her side, "Yeah Shadepaw, no need to get all jealous!"
If looks could kill then both Whitepaw and Morningpaw would be swimming with the fishes by now.
Their argument came to a close as quickly as it had started. Everyone became silent as Crookedstar gestured to someone beyond the reeds.
Morningpaw craned her neck to look over the shoulders of warrior's, where the reeds were rustling. Out stepped Silverpaw, neatly groomed and shining like the wings of a silver pheasant.
Silverpaw's blue eyes were shining with excitement as she looked up at her father. Crookedstar looked down at his daughter from atop the roots of a great willow tree. There was great pride in his eyes being returned to his daughter.
Whitepaw was eyeing Sliverpaw enviously while Morningpaw was trying to ignore Shadepaw. Morningpaw's eyes sparked with excitement. This felt the same way as when one of her Clanmates were being made warriors. Silverpaw, though Morningpaw only knew the silver-and-black tabby she-cat for a short time, was someone deserving of her warrior name.
"RiverClan," the large tabby called their attention. "I've called this meeting to announce the making of a new warrior!" Crookedstar gestured for his daughter to step forth. "Loudbelly, has your apprentice learned the ways of the warrior code. Is Silverpaw ready to become a warrior?"
Silverpaw looked nervously at her mentor. Morningpaw had to hold her breath for only a second as the dark brown tom gazed upon his apprentice before nodding, "She has, Crookedstar."
Crookedstar's whiskers twitched in satisfaction. "Silverpaw. You are a dedicated member of RiverClan and your heart will always remain loyal. I want Silverpaw to be in the patrol that resets the borders beyond Sunningrocks. No. I want Silverstream!"
Silverstream! Silverstream!
Morningpaw joined in cheering on Silverstream's new name. The newly made warrior was looking bashful as everyone crowded around to congratulate her on becoming a warrior at last. However the congratulations were cut short as Crookedstar allowed for a moment of celebration before continuing where he left off.
"I want Silverstream, Mistyfoot, Stonefur, Loudbelly, Ottersplash, Leopardfur and finally Morningpaw, all of you will join Oakheart's battle party. It's time that we reclaim Sunningrocks!"
Morningpaw couldn't believe what she was hearing. They were going to fight over Sunningrocks with ThunderClan now? It was so soon. It was--
Morningpaw was broken out of her inner panic as she was shoved in the side. Whitepaw looked both excited and disappointed at the same time. "The battle party is gathering. You should join up with them now." Morningpaw nodded, slightly in a daze as she slithered up beside Silverstream and listened to Oakheart's every order.
"We'll set some scent markers on the new border. Then we'll wait on the rocks at Sunningrocks till we see a patrol." Oakheart was saying. "Then we make it well known that Sunningrocks now belong to RiverClan."
There were meows of agreement from the battle party. Morningpaw couldn't bring herself to join in.
Crookedstar gestured with his tail, "Go now. While the sun is still at its peak!"
Everything was happening so fast.
Morningpaw could feel her heart stuttering in her chest as she followed Oakheart out through the entrance of RiverClan's camp. In a blur soon enough Morningpaw found herself at the river. Having no knowledge as to how they got here. The RiverClan patrol entered as one, paddling strongly against the current, though Morningpaw sometimes still struggled, the apprentice still made it across, emerging sleek and strong on the other side.
Morningpaw sighed as she padded onto the sunlit stones. "I've missed this," she murmured under her breath and didn't bother to shake the water from her pelt. She joined the Clan in pushing the border markers back, making sure all of Sunningrocks carried the fresh, familiar scent of RiverClan.
Did Morningpaw really smell like RiverClan now?
Morningpaw needed somehow to distract herself as they were forced to all wait, turning to her silver furred companion, Morningpaw asked, "How does it feel to finally be a warrior?"
"Not much of a difference," replied Silverstream. "Just moving out of the apprentices' den and into the warriors'." Fireheart purred thickly. "Though I'll no longer be on apprentices duty," Silverstream added. She glanced at Morningpaw with an amused gleam in her eyes. "It will be you and the others who will pick up the slack with me not there. I'll also be the one to boss you all around!"
Morningpaw snorted, "don't let all that power get to your head." They were eventually shushed, the bushes quivering in the undergrowth of the forest, Morningpaw tensed alongside Silverstream as a patrol of ThunderClan warriors stepped out.
The ThunderClan patrol stopped dead in their tracks as they spotted the RiverClan cat's casually lounging on top of the warm, sunbaked flat stones.
The ThunderClan patrol cautiously approached. Redtail was in the lead, followed by six more warriors, a few of whom Morningpaw recognized as Dustpaw and Darkstripe. Morningpaw could see the way Dustpaw's eyes widened when they caught sight of Morningpaw, as well as Darkstripe's twisted sneer. Though Morningpaw wasn't exactly sure if his sneer was directed at her or the RiverClan patrol. More than likely both.
Morningpaw didn't have time to scope anyone else on the patrol out. Redtail began speaking and so Morningpaw's attention shifted to him.
"Oakheart. What is the meaning of this?" Redtail demanded while flicking his gaze over the RiverClan patrol. It seems the ThunderClan deputy realizes just why they are there.
Oakheart rose to his paws to tower above the ThunderClan patrol. His shadow stretched out to meet them as he spoke. "Wonderful weather we're having, isn't it?" Oakheart began, his flippant disregard for the danger ThunderClan possessed catching Morningpaw by surprise. "We've all decided that since it's such a beautiful day we needed a nice spot to relax and take it all in."
Sounds of amusement came from the RiverClan warriors all gathered atop the Sunningrocks. Even Morningpaw's own whiskers twitched in amusement at how charming and easygoing Oakheart was being. Though the ripple of anger going throughout the ThunderClan patrol dampened that mood.
"You're on ThunderClan territory, Oakheart!" Redtail challenged. "You have no right being here."
"I'm sure that the border is over there, Redtail." Oakheart responded, pointing with his tail at where the new scent markers that Leopardfur and Ottersplash had just set earlier. "So it seems that you're the ones who are trespassing."
Redtail's red fox fur tail lashed out behind him. His feathered ears were flicking in annoyance as he glared up at Oakheart, RiverClan's deputy stared back, unflinchingly.
"You all have one chance. Leave and go back to your own territory or fight us."
Morningpaw's heart began to beat faster. Jade green eyes plastered to the ThunderClan patrol as her ears were pricked to hear Oakheart's answer. This was it. Morningpaw will have to fight her Cl-former Clanmates.
You're a RiverClan cat now, Morningpaw. She reminded herself and she crouched down, ready to spring on her enemy. An enemy that used to be her friends and Clan in a past life. Who she swore to save.
"Well, what's it going to be, Oakheart?" The dark tortoiseshell ThunderClan deputy demanded. "Want to fight us?"
Oakheart, however, didn't seem phased, standing tall and unwavering under the ThunderClan depuy's furious gaze.
"Sunningrocks is part of RiverClan territory."
As though it were a battle call, Sunningrocks exploded into a loud brawl of cats descending upon one another with claws unsheathed and determination to fight for their rights to Sunningrocks.
Morningpaw hesitated for a moment, allowing the other RiverClan warriors to jump off first, this was completely against what Morningpaw was sent back to do. She was meant to save and protect ThunderClan, not fight them, she needed too--
"Let's go, Morningpaw!" Silverstream meowed, before letting out a battle cry and following after their Clanmates.
Morningpaw swallowed deeply. Bunching her muscles from where she was crouched and took a flying leap and landed on to the rough grass. Morningpaw watched as cats were tearing into each other, rolling around on the ground in knots of fur, hissing and scratching, screeching at the top of their lungs, they were--
Morningpaw felt someone harshly bite into her tail. Hissing in outrage, Morningpaw turned with claws unsheathed and came to look deeply into the fearful green eyes of an old friend in a past life. Morningpaw only had time to sheath her claws before batting the sleek black tom away.
"Get out of here," Morningpaw growled, not wanting to hurt Ravenpaw. "You don't belong in this fight. You don't belong in any fight."
Morningpaw could see the hesitation in Ravenpaw's eyes. Perhaps he's confused as to why she was telling him to leave and not trying to fight him. However the black apprentice did as Morningpaw said and was the first to flee into the undergrowth.
The flame-colored she-cat was relieved. The former ThunderClan leader didn't want to harm one of her best friends, even though in this life they weren't Clanmates, let alone friends.
Morningpaw turned around to fight for real this time. However when she was searching for someone she was willing to fight. Oakheart could be seen fighting Redtail, their claws slashing at one another's pelts near the rock formation. Redtail was darting back and forth, using his speed and agility over Oakheart's bulker and more muscular physique.
It almost looked like a chase between the two deputy's. Both jumping forwards and back. Trying to land blows without taking any of their own. Then Redtail ran, trying to get Oakheart to chase him, it was a ploy on Redtail's part, and it seemed to work on Oakheart.
Morningpaw's eyes rounded into moons as Ravenpaw's words from so long ago echoed in her ears; When Redtail was fighting Oakheart; Oakheart died when rocks fell on him.
No! The flame-colored she-cat couldn't allow that to happen. Not to Oakheart. Stonefur and Mistyfoot would be devastated and there would be no excuse for Tigerclaw to use for killing Redtail if Oakheart died.
Morningpaw had to do something. She had to do something! Morningpaw raced at an angle towards Oakheart and threw herself in front of him, making Oakheart run straight into her, causing Morningpaw to be knocked over and effectively making Oakheart pause.
"Morningpaw, wha-" Oakheart looked genuinely surprised, but Morningpaw didn't allow him to finish his question as she sprung back to her paws, winded but not hurt.
"The rocks are unstable and might fall any moment!" Morningpaw painfully gasped.
Okay, maybe Morningpaw did get a little hurt when she threw herself at Oakheart. Though a little pain was worth having Oakheart taking a second look and backing away from the towering mass of rocks.
"Stick close to me, Morningpaw," Oakheart meowed, blinking for a moment at Morningpaw in astonishment before jumping back into the fray.
Morningpaw leaped after him. Her fur bristled as renewed energy pumped throughout her entire body. Morningpaw saved Oakheart! What will this change? Morningpaw didn't dwell on the question, instead she jumped straight on to the back of a very familiar tom.
"Get off!" Dustpaw hissed, trying to shake Morningpaw off. Trying to bite onto Morningpaw's plumy tail to drag her off but Morningpaw kept it just out of reach as she dug her nettle like claws deeper into his pelt.
"And have you missed out on round two of me beating you up. Not a chance." Morningpaw hissed back, biting deeply into Dustpaw's ear to the point of the brown tabby wailing in agony.
Morningpaw only let him go when she tasted blood from his ear. The RiverClan apprentice jumped back away as Dustpaw disappeared into the surrounding bushes with his tail tucked between his legs, a withering glare aimed at Morningpaw over his shoulder the entire way.
Morningpaw turned on her toes. Ready for more action. However, she quickly reared back on her hind legs, Morningpaw narrowly pulled away in time to prevent jaws snapping down on her neck. He's seriously trying to kill me! Morningpaw thought as her widened jade eyes met hostile yellow ones.
Darkstripe lunged at her again. Morningpaw twisted backwards, having to keep moving back to avoid each deadly bite that Darkstripe tried to land on her. It wasn't a proper fighting maneuver, it was barely a proper evasive maneuver, it was Morningpaw trying to prevent her own death.
Suddenly pale blue-gray fur crashed into Darkstripe, knocking him over and raking their claws over Darkstripe's flank and leaving deep scratches that bleed. That sent Darkstripe wailing into the bushes, after Dustpaw and some of their other ThunderClan warriors.
"We're- we're winning!" Morningpaw gasped, jade green eyes glancing around at how outnumbered the ThunderClan patrol were now.
Mistyfoot sent Morningpaw a look that told her not to celebrate so soon. But it was obvious as more and more ThunderClan warriors departed, leaving behind Sunningrocks. Only a few remained, outmatched by the RiverClan warriors. Two of which were Redtail and Tigerclaw.
Boiling anger filled Morningpaw's gut and the flame-colored apprentice didn't know she was running before she was sprinting straight for the gigantic dark brown tabby. Not even Mistyfoot's warning registered as Morningpaw practically flew on top of Tigerclaw back. Digging her claws so deep into his pelt that a tick would be jealous. It must have made for a funny sight to see Tigerclaw trying to buck-off an orange ball of fur that was three times smaller than him.
Tigerclaw turned this way and that, but Morningpaw refused to let go. "Get off me!" Tigerclaw roared, that only incite Morningpaw more to dig in harder, till they were embedded in his very flesh. Unknowingly to Morningpaw, this was distracting enough for Loudbelly and Stonefur to get the jump on him. The two toms tore the fur off both Tigerclaw's sides, drawing blood that disgustingly satisfied Morningpaw.
Tigerclaw by now was as mad as a dog. His massive paws struck out at the warriors, but he could only fight one at a time. When one warrior leaped back, out of Tigerclaw's long claws range, the other RiverClan warrior leaped forward to land a blow on the tabby, and with Morningpaw stuck to his back, clinging on with her claws, Tigerclaw was in a lose-lose situation, especially with the dwindling number of ThunderClan warriors.
Tigerclaw reared back, finally managing to throw Morningpaw off as he tossed her to the side by using her own momentum against her. The RiverClan apprentice was left heaving on her side, badly winded as she fought to regain her breath. Out of the corner of her eye, Morningpaw could see Tigerclaw's hot, smoldering pale amber eyes boring holes into the side of Morningpaw's head.
Loudbelly stood protectively over Morningpaw now that she was down. Stonefur however still faced Tigerclaw, hissing and glaring at him, Tigerclaw appeared to want to fight till the bitter end and not face defeat, but Morningpaw knew that Tigerclaw's ambition wouldn't allow him to die in this battle. Instead of staying, Tigerclaw fled but not without a backwards glare towards Morningpaw, and the two warriors surrounding her.
Morningpaw turned to see Oakheart and Redtail having a final confrontation. Redtail was in a semicircle of RiverClan warriors surrounding him, facing Oakheart, though Redtail deserved credit for though he and his patrol were defeated and he was covered in wounds, Redtail still held steady eye contact with Oakheart.
"RiverClan may have one this time, but ThunderClan will soon fight to reclaim their territory as we always do." Redtail spat.
"You'll keep losing as well, squirrel-chasers." Leopardfur spat, growling from where she stood at Oakheart's side. Leopardfur had scratches all down her shoulders and back, a clump of dappled, golden tabby fur was hanging off the end of her tail and her ear was bleeding, but the she-cat warrior's amber eyes were blazing.
"Sunningrocks is now RiverClan's." Oakheart said, his amber eyes narrowed but blazing in triumph. "Leave now Redtail, and tell the rest of your Clan." Sparing Oakheart one last look, Redtail turned tail and disappeared after his Clanmates.
Everyone fell silent for a moment. Every warrior was holding their breath until Redtail's fox-like tail disappeared into the trees and they let out yowls of victory.
Loudbelly was loudly purring over Morningpaw as the RiverClan warriors began regrouping, congratulating one another while also checking for others' injuries.
Morningpaw's eyes were half-lidded, though she could tell when Loudbelly looked down at her with a look of admiration. "Well done, Morningpaw." Loudbelly meowed, sounding as though he meant it.
Morningpaw tried to respond to him but found that she couldn't as a loud voice interrupted by calling her name, "Morningpaw! Morningpaw!" Silverstream weaved her way around her Clanmates. Easily spotting Morningpaw as Loudbelly waved to her. "I saw what you did!"
Silverstream nearly ran over her former mentor in her haste to get to Morningpaw's side. Loudbelly wisely stepped out of the way.
"That was the most courageous yet harebrained thing I have ever seen!" Silverstream gasped, staring at Morningpaw in awe as the other she-cat panted, laid out in the grass.
"I know!" Morningpaw gasped out, feeling all her aches and pains now that the battle was over.
"The way you took on a full fledged warrior like Tigerclaw is remarkable." Loudbelly meowed, "he's no pushover you know. Well known for being a powerful adversary. For an apprentice to take him down will really bruise his ego."
Morningpaw let out a drowsy purr at that. Yes, let Tigerclaw brood in his defeat. Next time I'll make sure he truly fails. For good. Tigerclaw will fail, Tigerclaw will--
"Hey, Morningpaw." Silverstream interrupted the flame-colored apprentice's inner celebration. "I think Oakheart is--"
Morningpaw in that moment promptly passed out.

A wild Guest: you hit the needle right on the head!!! I went slack jawed when I read this comment. Let me tell you!!!
Fun Facts:
I'm pretty sure Silverstream is just a bit older so I want her to be made a warrior first.
Also I liked Crookedstar's warrior ceremony so I just sort of went with it. It's fitting!!! Especially with what happens afterwards!!!
Isn't Whitepaw and Morningpaw's friendship just the cutest you've ever seen?
You honestly expect Morningpaw to hurt a single hair on Ravenpaw? Yeah, neither do I!!! This will come up later just so you know!!!
Oakheart is saved!!! Redtail is alive!! Tigerclaw is chased off…and maybe Morningpaw left a bigger impression than she thinks she did?
Seems that Morningpaw's tail is still intact. Better than what my main series Fireheart had put her tail through.
This. Is. Such. A . Long. Chapter!!! If you hadn't given up reading half way, let me know!!!
3,359 words!!!! Thought about cutting the chapter up then I thought…no…best keep going. So I hope you enjoyed this long chapter!!!
