Time passed by quickly and the day of the fundraiser had arrived. They would finally get the opportunity to get close to their target and move forward with their investigation. Henry had been working tirelessly to gather all the information they could need before the event and Elizabeth had been figuring out a plan to get close to Hill and approach him.
They were meeting at 4pm to go to the briefing as they would need help from another agent. So Elizabeth started to get ready in advance. She would attend as any other guest but needed to make a perfect first impression. As they had the budget, she had ordered the most perfect dress for the evening and she knew when she put it on that she would definitely make an impression.
It was a sleeveless one shoulder powder pink silk dress with a thin belt on her waist that fitted her curves perfectly. One breast was covered by the silky fabric and the other was covered solely by silver embroidered stones, leaving the image behind it up to imagination. The dress also had a high slit on the center, letting the material flow to the sides effortlessly touching the floor, a little tail finishing it off, as her legs showed at every step she took. She completed the look wearing thick makeup, silver black eyelids with subtle pink lips and a dusting of silver over her chest; while her blonde long hair fell perfectly to her shoulders and a pair of silver high heels matching the embroidered stones.
When it was about time, she took another look at the mirror and she decided she looked pretty hot. She then grabbed a bag with some of her daily clothes - just in case she would need them later - and sprayed on some perfume before leaving.
In the meantime Henry was nervous. He had never done any ops before without knowing the full details. At least, the times they didn't have time to prepare he had trusted their partners with his life. Today it wouldn't be the case though.
It was almost time to start the briefing but there was no sign of Elizabeth. Nervous was an understatement now. He heard her enter the van and it took him a good couple of minutes to turn and address her. When he looked at her he froze for a second. The woman he had just been working with for over a month, always dressed with jeans and hoodies, her hair pulled up in a messy bun or ponytail and glasses framing her face was now in front of him looking like a princess.
"Well, I see at least I picked up the right dress…" she joked, seeing how he was staring at her intently with his jaw slightly dropped.
Henry didn't want to be nice to her, so he tried to hide his true opinion. "Yeah, I think it fits the etiquette of the event." Wow, she doesn't even seem like the same person. She looks beautiful.
In the meantime, Isabelle arrived to help them. She introduced herself politely to Henry and addressed Elizabeth. "Hey Bess. Ready to do this?"
"Ready as always. Thank you for having my back." she said, grateful that her friend was helping them and she didn't have to work alone with Henry.
"Isabelle, I'm Henry. Nice to meet you." he chimed in. Are they friends? That's a surprise…
The briefing started and they were fairly surprised by each other. Henry had managed to get all the back-up information possible on the attendees, specially those they were targeting, and Elizabeth had studied Hill's information and memorized the venue's plans in advance, making it easier to know all the entrances, exits and hidden spots if needed. Then they split their tasks accordingly: Isabelle would monitor everything from a van they would park outside the venue and would be in constant communication with Elizabeth & Henry through a microphone. She would go undercover with Henry, who would provide imagery and intervene if something went wrong. Not that they should resort to that, because then they would totally blow their cover.
Once everything was set and everyone knew their part in the operation, they just needed to split the devices. Isabelle had everything they needed inside the van so she gave a little camera to Henry, who once was suited up, placed it on his tie pin in order to have a good vision. He placed the microphones and then he turned to Elizabeth and gave her hers to hide it. She put the earpiece inside her ear, becoming instantly invisible as her hair was loose. The other one that would be transmitting sound to Isabelle, she tried to place it under the dress strap, but after fiddling with it for a while Henry approached her, saying: "Let me."
He placed himself behind her and pulled her hair to the side to have complete access to her shoulder. Gulping, he took in the smooth, exposed skin of her neck and expertly placed the device underneath the silky fabric so nobody could tell it was there. He slowly traced her skin, making her shiver and leaving an electric trail across her neck before his hands dropped to his sides.
"Done. I think nobody will notice." he murmured against her ear. She smells so good.
"Thank you." she said softly. Damn, this one looks good in a tux. Clearing all her thoughts, she muttered: "Showtime" as she grabbed him by the arm leading him to the venue while Isabelle was left in the van.
Once inside they wandered through the main room to take in all the attendants as Isabelle passed on information from the outside. "The tall man with a blue tie at your six is Mr. Norton. He's one possible suspect. Keep an eye on him if he approaches Mr. Hill."
They kept walking until a waiter stopped them offering a flute of champagne. "Thank you." she said, offering him one of her best smiles. Then they heard Isabelle again through the earpiece: "The woman with the purple dress at your three is Mrs. Folk. I think she might be in it too. Be careful if you reach her, it is said she has quite a temper."
Seeing they got everything covered, Henry decided to inspect further. "I'll go check the other room. You stay here and I'll come back and meet you soon, okay?"
Elizabeth glared at him, not pleased at receiving orders from him. "Fine," she muttered as he eyed her. Once she was alone and sipping her drink, a man approached her from the side. He was a tall, muscular man with perfectly combed black hair and piercing green eyes, who was staring at her intently. "I don't think I had the pleasure to meet you."
She turned and recognized him immediately: Mr. Hill. So she decided to play along. "I don't think so. You would definitely remember meeting me." she said, confidently with a dazzling smile.
He laughed at her bold line. "I'm sure I would. I hope from today I won't forget, then. I'm Scott. Scott Hill." he introduced himself.
"I'm Lisa. Lisa Williams. Pleasure to meet you." she said sweetly. Nice nickname I threw off. Will would be very happy to know that sometimes I use him as a cover. Game on.
"The pleasure is all mine, Lisa." Hill said as he took her hand to his lips, placing a lingering kiss making Elizabeth shudder.
As he left her hand, he signaled a waiter to come by so he could grab a flute of champagne for himself. After the first sip, he asked: "So, what is a woman like you doing at an event like this?"
"Apparently… getting drunk." she said with a smirk, while raising her flute towards his for a toast. I need to be careful and make the drink last all night.
He couldn't help but laugh at her boldness again clinking his flute with hers. "Let me be your companion, then."
"What about you? What is a man like you doing in an event like this?" she asked, reciprocating his question as sipping her drink. Let's see if I can get anything out of you.
"Mostly money. I came to support the cause and donate. It's close to my heart and I attend every year." he explained, as his green piercing eyes bored at her, never looking away.
Elizabeth stared back at him. "I happen to know this organization, and I know from a reliable source that they use the money wisely."
"Glad to know that my money will be well invested." he said, a smirk tugging at his lips. "By the way, where is that partner of yours?"
Elizabeth turned her head to look around and then a side smile appeared on her face. "I don't know. But I see you've been keeping an eye on me." He has been watching me. Maybe this will give me an opportunity to get close?
"Bess, he has definitely been watching you. You need to be careful." she heard Isabelle say through the earpiece.
She coughed, signaling she heard her and kept the dazzling smile on her face. "I ditched him for the champagne. Way more interesting." she joked, taking a small sip again.
"You didn't even give him a chance. It's impossible you got that bored in such a short time..." he joked back, clearly fascinated by her.
"When someone's not interesting, I get bored instantly." she said, winking.
"Good to know. I'll try to make this night interesting for you then."
"You can try, but I'm quite difficult to impress." she said, leaving her drink on a table and walking away from him. This man knows how to charm a woman.
"Well played Bess. This one's a real piece of work. You need to be careful." She heard Isabelle say.
"Elizabeth, what do you think you're doing?" Henry approached her from behind and grabbed her by the arm pulling her into a corner of the room.
She surveyed the room and when she was sure they were out of Hill's eyesight, she turned and murmured: "Just doing our job while you were gone. What's wrong with you?"
Henry sighed. He was shocked to see her so close to Hill and got nervous. He tried to calm himself before speaking. "Nothing's wrong. I don't think you should get this close to him on our first mission. That's all."
"Well, I'm 100% sure he's going to be back and now it will be his idea to be talking to me." she said to Henry confidently. Then he lowered her voice to talk to Isabelle. "Isabelle, where is he now?"
"Right behind you." They both heard her say. Elizabeth couldn't contain a smirk. I knew he would be back.
Starting to make small talk with Henry so their cover was not blown, she knew what was coming when Hill cleared his throat behind them.
"I thought we were having a good time back there." he murmured against her ear, getting impossibly close to her from behind..
"We did. But good things never last forever, do they?" she asked, as she turned slightly with a devilish grin.
He looked at her intently and after a few seconds, he took a step back and his gaze fixated on Henry's. "Scott Hill. Pleasure to meet you". he introduced himself and extended his hand to him.
"Patrick. Likewise." Henry stated, shaking his hand. What a smug asshole.
"I was just talking to your gorgeous guest over here. Mind if I steal her for a moment?" Hill asked politely, as he placed a hand on Elizabeth's lower back.
"Not at all." he said, forcing a smile. Be my guest. See if you can put up with her for more than five minutes.
Hill didn't waste any time before he slipped his hand around Elizabeth's waist, dragging her with him."You owe me for saving you…"
"I didn't ask you to save me. I could have handled him perfectly on my own." she stated, looking intently at him and removing his hand from her waist.
"Can I at least invite you to one more glass of champagne?" he asked, completely mesmerized by her.
"That you can. I can't promise I'll finish it though… It will depend if things are kept interesting or not…"
The night went by as Elizabeth socialized with Hill, laughing and touching all evening. It annoyed Henry, but seeing that she got that part covered, he focused on checking on some of the attendees that could be linked to their mission with Isabelle's help. Once the party was finished, he went looking for Elizabeth but she seemed pretty at ease with their target, so he let her be and headed to the van. She would meet them there soon enough.
Once she was back, they summarized all the useful things gathered from the night. It turned out, the three of them had done an excellent job. Isabelle was done for the night, so she left them alone to recap everything.
Once they were done and before parting ways, Henry couldn't keep himself from saying what he had been thinking for a while. "By the way… you didn't have to flirt with him, you know?" he blurted out. Why the hell did I just say that? What do I care who she flirts with?
"I'll do whatever I have to to get the job done. And I think we got pretty useful information thanks to my flirting." I can't believe he's complaining after putting myself on the line for this.
"Just saying… You already got him when you said that good things never last forever. You'd know that if you had been focused enough." I can't believe she thinks it's okay to cross that line for the job.
"It's easy to say that when you've been wandering around the venue all night. Now I get why they pulled you off the field." Who does he think he is? I've never met a more presumptuous asshole in my life…
That statement hurt Henry deeply. "You don't know anything." Why does she have to be like this? I thought I saw another side of her tonight, but that was just acting. She's so impertinent.
Elizabeth was angry at this point so she just spat: "Yeah. Neither do you. So back off." I'm so done with him.
And with that, she turned, took off the dress in front of him standing in a strapless nude bra and underwear while Henry just stared at her, failing to comprehend what was happening. His eyes roamed her body, from her lightly covered breasts down to her slim waist, passing the nude lace panties before stopping on her legs that went on for miles. They were lean, toned and tanned, adorned perfectly with a pair of ridiculously tall silver stilettos.
She didn't even acknowledge him as she quickly opened her bag, retrieved some old clothes and dressed up quickly. She put her glasses on, and just said: "Guess I'll see you tomorrow."
