GOSSIP GIRL

The world of the Upper East Side is a dangerous one. It's a world of the rich and the privileged. It's so tempting from the outside that if you manage to get in, you have to fight like hell to stay there. Anyone will do anything to get in, including me.

A 20 year old girl who went by the alias Charlie Rhodes, lost her life fighting to get accepted into the world of the Upper East Side. She pretended to be the relative of one of the wealthiest families in the city. She was desperate to be a member of the famous Van Der Woodsen family, and she was determined to become the next Serena Van Der Woodsen. Although nothing more than a bipolar con artist, she managed to trick the world and she became Charlie Rhodes. Her real name was Ivy Dickens.

Overwhelmed by the constant strength it takes to stay in the Upper East Side and the overall stress of her secrets and lies, Ivy Dickens went off of her meds and jumped to her death. Although no one could have seen this coming, I feel I am to balm. Gossip Girl gave her all the information that she needed to pull off her plan…It is because of this tragedy that I am revealing the truth.

I started Gossip Girl because I wanted entrance into the Upper East Side. I'm an outsider, I was born an outsider. For the most part I was ok with that. Until I saw her… the famous Serena Van Der Woodsen. She gave me the time of the day and I never forgot it. I was smitten with her, and I knew that I would never stand a chance with her if I didn't find a way to insert myself into her world and remain there. So I invented Gossip Girl and gave myself an alias, Lonely Boy. Surely I couldn't do this alone. I enlisted the help of Little J. She wanted to be an insider just as much as I did. I watched her play slave to Queen B for a year, before finally gaining her place of privilege, and having her soul crushed the moment she fell flat. She got so addicted to the power that she had to be driven out of the city. V, also known as Vanessa was my best friend and she would never even come close to being an insider no matter what she did, so I decided to let her in on it as well.

You get completely ignored if you don't have a status. That's how this world is. I once got on a bus with my fellow classmates of Constant St. Jude's, only to get off and be accused of following them because they are rich. The guy didn't even notice that I was wearing the same uniform as them. He didn't even see me. I knew creating Gossip Girl would be the only way I would gain access and maybe acceptance into the Upper East Side.

I know that what I did was wrong, but once I started I couldn't stop. It all started with Serena coming back and it snowballed from there…I had to know her. The only way to get in was to know the secrets Upper East Siders didn't want others around them to know, or they didn't want to be the one to reveal it themselves. They let Gossip Girl take the blame. They sent me text, photos, anything I asked for. People of the Upper East Side are always so eager to send in gossip and bring each other down. I had all of the power at my fingertips.

As the outsiders, Jenny, Vanessa, and I had all the power. Look at the opportunities we were given because we were connected. My dad married Lily Van Der Woodsen, that gave J and I contacts to people in high places. Jenny got connected to people in the fashion world, leading her to start her own fashion line. I got connected to authors of great literature and am now writing my own book. Because of all of my new found connections, Vanessa got connected to people in the film world and started her documentary career.

No matter what the damage, the Upper East Siders still have money and fame to get where they want to be in life regardless of a scandal. I know the damage that Gossip Girl has caused but this is the first time it ever cost someone their life… Senders knew the damage that they had caused others, but it never stopped them… This may cause everyone in our lives to hate us, but what's new, we'll always be considered outsiders no matter who we were connected to because we weren't born into the world of the rich…

I am Dan Humphrey, born and raised in Brooklyn New York. I have always been proud of that. But being born from Brooklyn wouldn't get me what I wanted. Starting Gossip Girl did.

I want to state this last piece of advice if anyone is still reading this. Don't be ashamed of who you are or where you come from. Know that if you don't have as much as anyone else, that doesn't make you any less of a person. You want something, go after it. Don't try and drag others down with you. And stay away from the Upper East Side, it only destroys those brave enough to face it and harden those that are stuck in it.

Xoxo Gossip Girl.
