A breeze stirred and a dainty figure, spun of pure sugar danced across the floor. After her marched a platoon of chocolate bar soldiers, and squat gumdrop children atop lollipop stilts, with little taffy dogs bouncing on their wrappers. A whole marching band struck up, with peanut-butter cup drums, and lollipop guitars strung with strands of gum, and lutes of hollow licorice. Figures of sugar and chocolate and gumdrops swayed in time with the music…

"Good morning, sleepyhead."
The soft press of warm lips drew her reluctantly into awareness and she followed them with a groan.
"What time is it?"
"Almost afternoon."
She sat up and tried to rub the sleep from her eyes. Everything still smelled of sugar from their revelries the night before. The floor was still spread with bright red jam in the shape of a pentagram, with candy piled in the middle, and more scattered around the floor, where she didn't remember having left it.
"At least we don't have any classes today."
"Small mercies. I had the weirdest dream… Maybe I ate too much candy last night. It was like the dance of the sugar plum fairies in here."
"Well, since we don't have any classes today we'll have a chance to clean everything up, so there shouldn't be any sugar plum fairies left to haunt you tonight."
She stuck out her tongue. "Whose idea was it to try to summon the Candyman from his sugary domain?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You're the worst roommate!"
"And that's why you love me."
Another sugary kiss was more than enough consolation, not that she would admit it.
