Chapter 12: Trying to Get Distracted
"So, Izzie said you're shaking up with Dr. Shepherd, are you doing him yet?" Alex Karev or Satin's Spawn, depending on the day and how you felt, never thought before he spoke but that was part of his charm…or at least that's what Izzie said.
They were finishing up lunch after a morning of classes.
"Shut up Alex, no I'm not sleeping with him!" Meredith snapped at Alex feeling the heat from the blush creeping up her cheeks.
"Leave her alone Alex…" Izzie's voice said, cutting off her boyfriend before he upset her friend.
"Mer doesn't feel that way about him. She would never!" Izzie's voice cut off as she noticed the grimace covering Meredith's face.
"Oh my God Mer you had sex with him…"
"I did not…I did not have sex with him!" Meredith pleaded, silently begging them to let it go.
"Dude, you have sex written all over you, if you didn't fuck Shepherd…you want to." Alex once again chimed in, grabbing a bite off the sandwich Izzie was eating.
"Can we just let it go…I did not sleep with Shepherd, he's an ass…my boss…but an ass."
She could feel the pain from this morning still so fresh. She was hoping this was it. No more discussing her nonexistent sex life…she just wanted to put it behind her.
Izzie picking up on Meredith's discomfort hushed Alex.
"Now, if you don't mind, I need to get back…Dr. Shepherd has a class tonight. I need to be home for Maddy. Iz call me, Alex as always, it's been fun." she snickered at him as she tossed her lunch in the can.
Walking towards her jeep she was lost in thought, so lost she collided with someone…a very solid someone.
Books falling to the ground, she looked up smiling at the attractive man standing before her, "I'm so sorry…let me get those." she fumbled, picking up the books handing his over.
Holding his hand out he smiled, "Meredith Grey, right?"
Smiling at the warmth coming from his handshake she nodded, "umm yea we had general surgery together last semester, right?"
"Yeah, Kyle Jacobs…" he told her, his eyes were blue not as deep as the man who had consumed her thoughts, but he was attractive.
Fiddling with the pages of her book she shifted from foot to foot. He was just what she needed to get her mind off of the ass…just what she needed to remind herself that life was about having fun and no strings attached…
Chuckling lightly, he handed her one of her books that was mixed up in his, "Listen Meredith would you like to grab dinner with me sometime…I know it's pretty forward, but let's just say it's not the first time I thought of asking you."
Shaking her head, "I'd love to…"
Taking out a pen she wrote her cell number on a small piece of paper, "here you go…call me."
Jason nodded "will do…I'm glad you ran into me Meredith."
She watched him walk away, standing there she tried to convince herself this is what she wanted. What she needed. Derek was her boss and neither one of them needed the mess a relationship would bring.
Jumping into her jeep she headed back to his house, to the reminder of that morning…back to face him in the wake of the hurt that still filled her, to the embarrassment of being rejected.
Derek sat at his desk grading the last of the papers for tonight's class. He was trying to keep his mind on the task at hand, but memories of her kept chasing his thoughts. He could still smell her, feel the dewy dampness of her skin. Closing his eyes, he could recall the way her neck arched as he feasted upon it…the way her pulse beat as he rocked her hips against him, the way her breath caught in a soft whimper as he took her nipple into his mouth.
She was beautiful, and the way she was with Maddy just made it all so much harder to turn away…but he couldn't…he wanted to but …
"Damn it" his voice gruff with frustration.
"Daddy, you said a potty word!" Maddy said, looking up from her coloring pages.
Derek turned to face his daughter, smiling gently "I'm sorry baby, you're right I did, I'm sorry."
This seemed to satisfy her, and she went right back to her coloring. Derek sat watching her, smiling at her innocence, hoping he hadn't blown the best thing she'd had in a long while…Meredith was making his daughter smile again and he would give up everything to make sure she didn't lose that…hearing the front door open he took a deep breath…this was it…
