"I'm so sorry Gumball," Penny said. She was sitting on the bed inside of her 2 story house with her soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend Gumball, they were on a date, she had invited him pretty urgently to her house for a date as well, messaging him on ElmorePlus. Little did Gumball know, it would be his last date with her. Gumball's ears perked up and he raised a single eyebrow, his face moved from a smile to a neutral semi-frown. "What?" Gumball asked, he was perplexed by what Penny had said.
"We need to break up." Penny looked away and gave a depressed look, it was clear she wasn't happy with the decision. She held Gumball's small teal paws into her hands and looked right at him, Gumball frowned and his eyebrows lowered painting his face into a saddened expression. "But-, but why?" With a slight stutter, Gumball asked, sorrow being heard in his voice.
"I'm moving. I know this is sudden but my mom found a really good job. My dad did also, better than his current workplace in Elmore, so it was inevitable we had to move. I'm sorry Gumball, I didn't want to break up with you at all." Penny cupped Gumball's cheeks and kissed him lightly on his forehead, his tail lowering. Penny's eyes widened, with a bit of watering in her eyes she just stated, "My dad wants you to leave." Gumball nodded and started tearing up, his eyes full of tears, and more that he didn't want to cry.
He opened up the door to her bedroom and turned back to say bye to Penny, he gave a sniffle but didn't show he was crying to her, he didn't want her to know how depressed he felt actually about the breakup. It was way too sudden, why did she do that while on a date? Why not through regular conversation? Were questions that flooded his mind, he didn't want to confront his mind on what he truly felt. He decided to just go home.
He walked up the stair steps at his home, looking at Mr. Robinson, he and Mrs. Robinson had a perfect marriage (Not really), so why couldn't he. Did he mess stuff up and that wasn't the full extent to why the break up happened? No. He couldn't think about that, so he put his paw up to the doorknob and went inside. A figurative rain cloud storming above his head.
He knew Darwin was upstairs in their room, likely messaging Carrie on ElmorePlus. Carrie and Penny were like opposites, both of them were the perfect girlfriend and decided even to be friends because of their boyfriends being brothers, as well as Gumball being the closest to Carrie besides Darwin. His relationship with Penny was something that seemed like it would last forever just like Darwin and Carrie's relationship. I guess he was being too optimistic, moving happens, but break ups?
They could talk online with other chatting apps besides ElmorePlus, now this seems fishy, maybe their love wasn't truly meant to be. Rose-tinted glasses are something that happens, but he really needed to go upstairs, Richard was staring at him weirdly for standing there in his mind palace for what felt like hours with tears starting to form at his eyelids. Richard wasn't always the brightest so instead of helping his son, he just stared.
Gumball decided it was time to nope the fuck out of there, didn't need to make the not-interaction with his dad even more awkward. He slowly walked up the stairs and opened the door to his bedroom, Darwin was sitting at the computer, it looked like he was reading something.
"Gumball?" Darwin asked, he spun his chair around to look at Gumball. He knew something was off right away, his eyes visibly red from crying and his face into a frown. He decided to hurry down and comfort his bro, this wasn't normal, something must've happened. "What happened?" Darwin asked, Gumball looked toward him trying to get the words out of his mouth but he just barely could. "Penny.."
"Penny what?" Darwin asked. "Penny broke up with me." Gumball responded with a light voice, tears flooding the room. Darwin was confused, Penny and Gumball breaking up? Gumball has had a crush on her since... since... since forever! And Penny was always in love with Gumball, so why would they break up?
He can admit he hadn't seen much of Gumball and Penny's relationship, but that's likely because the honeymoon phase was over! (He learned that one from the internet.) Just like him and Carrie, they're not as in love as they used to be but their relationship is doing just fine still. So he thought Gumball and Penny were the same way, guess not.
"She said- she said that her parents got good jobs outside of Elmore and we needed to break up" Gumball was still bawling his eyes out, his words being semi-illegible. He could still understand the gist of what he was saying, which didn't make sense. Why the hell (pardon for the language) would she break up with him for that, online relationship/long-distance one's are a thing. Something smelt of Fish and it wasn't just Darwin.
"You need to take your mind off of her, bro, you have me" Gumball sighed, it wasn't exactly the same, but he knew he couldn't be hung up on the love of his life forever. It was a bit late as well, 10:30 PM. Mom would be pretty mad if she found out Gumball and Darwin were staying up this late, so he decided not to dwell any longer and go to sleep, besides, he felt pretty tired considering.
"Thanks, I'm tired though." Darwin nodded. "Yeah, me too, I guess we'll go to sleep." Darwin and Gumball both went to their sleeping arrangements, Darwin's fishbowl and Gumball's bottom bunk. Tomorrow was a new day for Elmore, a Penny-less day none than less, but a new day. It was also a school day for Elmore Junior High, sadly. He really didn't want to see miss Simian's gross face again, but 5 days a week he was forced to.
Gumball woke up, feeling a bit hazy. Oh right, school. The he remembered Penny, he still didn't want to believe it, but never mind that, he was going to be late for school, fucking shit. He rushed to get his regular clothes back on, Darwin already brushing his teeth in the bathroom, they were both panicked. They completely forget to get up at the correct time.
In a panic, both Darwin and Gumball start rushing down the stairs, clothes halfway on, trying to get to school as fast as they can. Darwin's toothbrush still in his mouth being pushed around to brush his teeth, they needed to hurry fast, there were about 5 minutes until school was going to start, and they didn't care about being late but they also didn't want to be late in case Nicole or Richard were notified, who were still sleeping.
Darwin and Gumball finally got to Elmore Jr. High, with about 2 minutes left to get to the classroom. They walked into the entrance of the school, barely anyone inside the hall, which felt mega-embarrassing for them. They ran to their classroom, they saw Miss Simian in the hall, but luckily she didn't see them. They did see some kid they haven't seen before, though. But that was besides the point, they had to get to the class before the bell rung.
Carrie giggled at Gumball and Darwin's entrances. It was so clear to everyone that they sped through the getting ready process. None of their clothes were on right, and they looked especially frazzled. Leading other people to silently laugh to themselves as well.
Gumball looked at the empty seat, once taken by Penny. It was the seat right next to the one next to him. He knew he had to get over Penny if he could find a new love, but it was going to be a bit hard, since most of his Middle School life was him yearning for Penny. But one thing he realized is that, the perfect person for him could just- walk through the door at any minute!
Miss Simian entered the room, much to his dismay from what he was just thinking. "Good morning children, now I know you guys are probably sad about Penny leaving, but in her place we have a new student to join this class." Oh, word? The door opened and some short kid, presumably a wolf like creature in the same vein as gumball with eye shadow and some random T-shirt with some random band on it walked in. "This is Zane, he will be a new student in this class, now please, introduce yourself Zane."
Miss Simian put on a fake smile and sat down at her desk, grabbing her lukewarm cup of coffee, not caring about what the young boy was going to say. "My name is Zane. I like.. music, and um-" Zane clearly looked anxious, Darwin keeping his eyes on him, he was really focused on this kid for some reason. Probably because he felt bad for him being anxious. "I also like video games, and- yeah. I hope you guys can welcome me to your class." Zane eye rolled at the last thing he said, he didn't particularly care about being welcomed.
He walked to his desk, Darwin still... entranced by him, Gumball wondered why, he didn't think he was that interesting, just some random emo kid like Carrie. Carrie... Gumball thought about Carrie, I wonder what she thinks about this new kid, I mean, he's honestly the perfect match for her, both are emo and seem to have the same taste in music. But she was dating Darwin, if he was out of the picture would Zane be a viable choice for her? Would Gumball be, wait, why is he even thinking that! Of course not, he wouldn't be a choice for his bro's cute- edgy girlfriend.
Nevermind, he just needed to go on with his day like normal, but honestly, it's Gumball. How could any of his days be normal.
