Chapter 3
.
Allie sometimes made bad decisions in the heat of the moment, and later regretted the consequences. Her daughter seemed to have inherited this. After her mother hit her Liz packed her belongings and moved out. She spent a few nights at a hotel, before she found an apartment. She gave Allie the money for Marie's surgery, but stayed away from her family. Liz had one month until graduation day, but she didn't necessarily feel it was important. Still, it was kind of cool to be able to come and go as she pleased. She came in late, left early. Sometimes she skipped one class to smoke or hang out, then went back in for other classes. Once she left in the middle of class, just walked out and went to a baseball game. Oddly, noone ever marked her as absent. Liz had told all of her friends about her arrangement with Lifecorps. Teachers felt bad for her, Liz wasn't the first of their students to do this, they let some things slide. On June 26th Liz graduated from highschool. Her mother came to see her on this day.
.
Allie: It's good to see you again Liz.
Liz: Yeah, good to see you too mom. Did Marie get her surgery?
Allie: Yes, she's doing well. I'll pay you back.
Liz: No you won't. You don't have enough time.
Allie: I'm willing to live with debt to save my children.
Liz: I don't want that.
Allie: So what now? You're just going to hang out with friends, just drink, smoke, and party for the next 11 months and then die.
Liz: That's the plan. Except I'm going to go on a road trip.
Allie: The big cross country trip you've always wanted.
Liz: Exactly. I plan to swim in both oceans, see the northern lights, and see every MLB stadium.
Allie: Are you allowed to travel that much? Seeing every MLB stadium would take you to Canada and Mexico.
Liz: Lifecorps gave me apps for my cellphone, they remind me when I have to be back here.
Allie: There's no way you'd want to back out?
Liz: Not unless I win the lottery.
Allie: I'll buy you some extra tickets. But if I fail, then make the most of whatever time you have left.
Liz: That's the plan.
