Kara cried and cried as she and her family were still trapped in the trailer. Now, Preigo was going to have them reprogrammed, and that meant there was a chance her brothers wouldn't remember who they were, their family, or that they wanted to become real boys.
Sapphire, meanwhile, wiggled and squirmed around until she managed to get her front legs loose and use her hooves to get the muzzle off her mouth.
"Some conscience I've turned out to be." Sapphire said, chewing the rope from Kara's hands.
Kara took her muzzle off and said, "You did your best." She looked at her brothers. "Anakin! Carmine!"
Kara sat the twins up and found the switches on their backs and turned them both back on.
A few beeps and blips later, the twins opened their eyes.
"Guys, are you okay?" Kara asked. "Say something. Anything."
"Something. Anything." The twins said in unison.
Kara hugged her brothers and gave them both lots of kisses.
The android part of the boys' programming notified them that hugs and kisses done in this manner were a sign of relief and Kara's current tears were that of joy that her loved ones were alive and well.
The twins also scanned their surroundings with their GPS scanners.
"My scanner indicated we are currently four-hundred-twenty-three-point-four miles from home." Carmine said. "And we are currently headed farther on a path headed south.
"In approximately two-point-five hours," said Anakin. "we will be arriving at Tatooine City, a city known for its harsh temperatures, sandstorms originating from the deserts surrounding it, and notoriously known for employment feeling more like slavery than worthy careers."
"We have to get out of here now!" Kara said.
She tried to open the door, but it was locked.
"Ugh! Of course," said Kara sarcastically. "He obviously locked the door. Why am I so surprised?"
"Sarcasm. Common among tweens and teenagers." said Anakin.
"Can you guys stop with the lectures and just blast us out of here?"
"Our programming says we must protect you." Carmine said. "Leaping out of a moving vehicle can lead to bodily harm."
"Well, we're in even more danger if Preigo manages to reprogram you, which he'll no doubt do at our next stop."
The twins calculated the probability in their computer minds.
"Think of it without computer calculations, please." Kara said.
The twins stopped their computer bits and thought like kids. Kara was right. Even if they got a little hurt jumping out of a moving vehicle, it would at least give them a fighting chance of getting home with all their memories.
Carmine and Anakin felt the material at the back of their trailer.
Carmine used his laser eyes to carve an outline of a door in the wall, and Anakin blasted it clean open with his blaster arm. The ship was moving fast.
Kara gasped as she saw how fast they were going and became nervous.
"Hmm. Getting Kara down safely will be the tricky part." Anakin said.
"Your father built you to be indestructible, remember?" Sapphire reminded the twins.
"Sapphire's right." said Carmine. "If we use ourselves as padding for Kara..."
"It lessens the chance of her being harmed by..." Anakin paused to calculate. "Forty-two percent."
"Well, I'll take that chance." said Kara.
Kara crouched down a little as the twins hugged her on either side.
"On three." Kara said. "One..."
"Two..." said Anakin.
"Three!" Carmine exclaimed.
And the kids all jumped and screamed as they flew out of the fast-moving trailer, and landed roughly on the ground.
The kids tumbled on the ground for a bit, and Kara fell out of the twins' grip on the ground.
Anakin found his shoulder got dislocated, and Carmine bent his neck a little in the fall. Luckily, since they were androids, all it took was a minor adjustment.
"We're okay." said Anakin. "I cannot currently feel physical pain."
"My circuits sustained slight glitching from the adrenaline running through my wires." Carmine said. "But I'm okay."
Kara looked around and saw that they were in an unfamiliar area. It looked like a town of some sort.
"Where are we?" Kara wondered out loud.
Carmine and Anakin did a GPS search.
"We are in San Florrum." Anakin said. "On foot, it will take us approximately twenty-one days, twelve hours, forty-three minutes in order to reach home."
"Or, we could find a way to contact your father so he can send for a ride." Sapphire said.
"That's right!" Kara said, and she reached for her phone, only... "Dang it! Preigo took my phone, and I left it back on the circus trailer!"
"Not to worry." Carmine said. "Dad placed communicators in our hands."
"Literally," said Anakin, raising his right hand.
And the palm of his hand opened to reveal what looked like a phone screen implanted into his hand.
"Calling Qui-Gon Jinn." Anakin said in his robot tone.
Qui-Gon sat in a chair in his lab, crying into his hands as he worried about his dear children.
Obi-Wan hugged his friend, trying to comfort him. R2 beeped sadly as he heard his master sobbing.
"What could've happened to them?" Qui-Gon sobbed.
"It will be okay. Android or not, they are your children. They are strong. We will find them."
Suddenly, there was the sound of beeping from Qui-Gon's phone.
Qui-Gon took out his phone and saw it was Anakin, and he quickly answered it.
"Anakin?! Are you okay?" Qui-Gon asked frantically. "Where are the others?"
"Daddy?" Kara's voice came on the phone.
"Kara, thank the Force you're safe." Qui-Gon said. "Where are you?"
"Apparently in San Florrum." Kara said.
"What happened? Why weren't you in school?"
"Because some very smart androids had the idea of talking to strangers and running away with the circus." Kara said, glaring at her brothers, who had guilt running through their wires.
"Anakin Gabriel Jinn! Carmine Amadeus Jinn!" Qui-Gon scolded. "What were the two of you thinking?!"
"We're sorry, Dad." Carmine said. "Kara tried to stop us, but we didn't listen."
"We followed our prime directive, though. Protect Kara Jinn." Anakin added.
Qui-Gon gave an order to R2.
"Children, listen carefully. I am having R2-D2 send you coordinates to the nearest port, as well as passes onto the next shuttle home."
"Daddy, I'm so sorry I couldn't stop them." Kara said. "I know they were programmed to follow orders, but with them having free will to become real kids, it probably should've been expected they would learn to be disobedient. Still, I should've been able to stop them. I'm supposed to be their big sister, and I couldn't protect them."
"It's alright, Kara. What's important now is that all three of you follow this order. Come straight home. Don't talk to or look at any strangers. Come straight home."
"Listen to your father, kids." Sapphire said. "He's your father, he loves you, and he knows what's best."
"Who is that?" Qui-Gon asked, hearing the new voice.
"That's our conscience Sapphire." Anakin said.
"She's a little blue pegasus." Carmine added.
"Dr. Jinn. I assure you, I have their best interests at heart." Sapphire said. "I was there when the twins were built, and I intend to ensure that they and Kara make it home safely."
"Good. Now, Kara. Once you get on the shuttle, switch the twins to sleep mode to save their energy." Qui-Gon said. "If you spot any danger, simply pull them on their ears and they will initiate emergency activations."
"Yes, Daddy." Kara said. "We'll be careful. I'll remember."
Kara felt tears come to her eyes.
"I love you, Daddy."
"We love you, Dad." the twins also said tearfully.
"I love you too, children." Qui-Gon said. "All of you. Be safe."
