SUMMARY: Sparks, Nellie's Horse doesn't win the Race against Bunny, Laura's Horse. Nellie is upset and the Oleson's family needs to decide what to do with the Horse.

Note: This 1st chapter is basically about the episode to get it started.

Sparks

Chapter 1: The Race

It's a nice Autumn Saturday morning the big day of the Walnut Grove's Horse Race. Sparks, the Horse that belongs to Nellie Oleson and Bunny, Laura Ingalls' Horse was the only two Horses in the Race. Sparks was to be ridden by Willie Oleson because he's lighter in weight than Nellie. Willie being sick to the stomach because of too many Candy Apples wounds up not being able to ride Sparks.

Dr. Baker was heading out of Town but Laura ran Bunny to get him so he could look at Willie and because she did Bunny was tired. Laura mentions, "Since Bunny is tired and Willie is sick we can postpone the Race till next week."

Harriet Oleson looks at Nellie with a smile than says to the crowd of Walnut Grove with a little smirk, "My Willie is sick but the Race must go on. My Nellie will ride Sparks. It's' her Horse anyway!"

Nellie looks at her mother with a smile than responds also with a smirk thinking she could win because Bunny is tired, "Yes the Race Must Go On!"

A hour later the Race is started and even though Bunny is tired he has a look of determination to win the Race against Sparks.

The Race is going strong at first Sparks is a little ahead of Bunny but Bunny catches up and now they are neck to neck and almost at the finish line. Bunny crosses the finish line by just a nose and wins the Race.

Nellie jumps off her Horse and stumps off without even congratulating Laura. Mrs. Oleson doesn't want to but she gives Laura her trophy which is the Oleson's Silver Cup.

The next day Sunday morning at the Oleson's breakfast table Harriet mentions, "We must do something with that Horse! It didn't win!"

Nellie is upset but she still kinda wants to keep the Horse, "Mother, I know Sparks lost the Race but I want to keep him!"

Harriet answers firmly, "NO!"

"MOTHER!" Nellie says as she stumps away from the breakfast table.

Nels calmly says, "We will talk about this later we need to go to Church now."

As they are walking over to Church Nellie and Laura come into eye contact and both stick their tongue at out each other.

Beginning announcements from Rev. Alden, "We had a good Horse Race yesterday afternoon. Congratulations to Laura Ingalls and her Horse Bunny."

Laura says, "Thank you Reverend."

Laura than looks over to Nellie and smiles. Nellie just looks at Laura with a smirk. Harriet whispers to Nellie, "We are getting rid of Sparks but maybe..."

What will the Olesons do with Sparks keep him or get rid of him?
