This is a story about Jack and Elizabeth as they come to Coal Valley and the challenges that face in 1910. This is part one in the Chalk Dust to Eternity series. This is an A/U and I have moved the timeline as well as changed some characters and added others. This is part 1 of the Chalk Dust series that I am writing.

I was so disappointed in Season 8 that I was moved to write my first FanFiction. It's time for Nathan and Allie to move on and for Nathan to find new love. There's a little bit of Elizabeth and other favorite HV characters. I hope you enjoy it. True love isn't all picnics and candlelit dinners (ahem... Lucas and Elizabeth). Sometimes true love is something a little more real. Not always grand gestures, but ones that come directly from the heart. The story picks up in the summer after the Season 8 finale, focusing on Nathan, Allie, and Hope Valley's newest teacher. Peppered with all the other Hope Valley citizens we love.

After the disastrous S8 (especially the finale), this story would not leave me alone. I couldn't imagine Bill Avery just accepting Elizabeth's decision. This is my very first fanfic, so please be gentle. I will always be on Team Nathan, so Team Lucas fans, may wish to give this a pass. This will be a journey back and forth in time in the relationship between Nathan Grant and Elizabeth Thornton. An emotional journey of these two in very different timeslots. After Elizabeth's decision to pursue a relationship with Lucas Bouchard, Nathan decided to leave Hope Valley but left something for Elizabeth that causes her more turmoil than she thought she ever has to face.

It has been 4 years since Jack Thornton Jr. left Hope Valley and Grace. During the four years, he becomes a Mountie, fight to take back the Northern Territories and loses men he led. After being put on leave, Jack goes back home with his baggage and some atoning to do. Meanwhile, Elizabeth and Nathan plan their 20 year anniversary and show Jack that love is worth fighting for.

I love Lucas Bouchard; Lucas Loves Elizabeth. I love Nathan Grant; Nathan is also in love with Elizabeth. Instead of a love triangle, we have somehow stumbled upon a love rectangle, and possibly even a love pentagon. In the end, I would have rather stayed home, but I have also realized I have been given a gift. The chance to find a fresh start and heal from my past. - SLOW UPDATES

While Elizabeth teaches class, Lucas makes an major announcement to the oil workers but tragedy strikes. Will Lucas make it out alive, and how will Elizabeth cope? Set after the hug but before season 8. Major character death with a guaranteed Happily Ever After. Heavy angst but the payoff is sweet. Have faith in dear ole Bucas.

An alternate version of When Calls the Heart, starting in season 6. Elizabeth and Lucas bond over one thing they have in common: their young sons.
