The Accident.
(Chapter One)
"Would you slow down please?" Danny Williams begged his partner.
"Seriously Danny? I'm just back from my honeymoon and you're already bitching about my driving?" Steve McGarrett asked exasperatedly.
"Exactly, you just got back from your honeymoon. Your bags are still in the trunk of my car, which you are driving way too fast might I add." Danny replied.
"Are you sure you two didn't just get married and get back from your honeymoon?" Bailey laughed from the backseat.
"Forgive me, Mrs. McGarrett, but shouldn't you be on my side? You're fresh from the airport and your neanderthal husband decides to jump right into a case instead of you two going home and unpacking." Danny groused.
"Are you trying to turn my bride against me, Williams?" Steve asked incredulously glancing at his partner.
"No, I am not trying to turn your bride against you. I am just saying that maybe she is tired and would like to get settled in before jumping right back into work." Danny argued.
"As appealing as that sounds Danno, relaxing isn't exactly Mac's thing." Bailey grinned.
"Are you telling me you two didn't relax at all during your honeymoon?" Danny asked the exasperated one now.
"We did a lot of things I'm not telling you about. Some of which may or may not have gotten us banned from Disneyland." Bailey teased.
"You guys really went to Disneyland for your honeymoon?! I mean I know you said that was the plan but… what could you two possibly have done to get you banned from ever returning…..Oh god, I do not want to know!" Danny exclaimed.
"You giving away all our secrets now, Vi?" Steve asked trying not to laugh.
Bailey laughed and replied, " I told you his head would explode if we mentioned it. And me giving away secrets it was your idea to mention to Danny that we nearly got caught in Disneyland."
"It was your idea to kick it up a notch and add the getting banned thing." Steve countered with a grin.
"I only said it may or may not have happened. I figured our Danno would go there." Bailey giggled.
"I think I liked you two better when you were on your honeymoon," Danny grumbled.
"Sorry, Danno. If it makes you feel better we brought back plenty of gifts for everyone. I think Charlie is really going to like his." Bailey apologized.
"Did you get him that Buzz Lightyear toy I asked you to grab?" Danny asked perking up.
"Yes, and it was Mac who remembered the Buzz Lightyear. I found him a Baby Yoda to cuddle at night." Bailey replied.
"Aw, he's going to love that. So, uh what did you get me?" Danny asked.
"What makes you think we got you anything, huh?" Steve teased.
"Well correct me if I am wrong, but Bailey did say that you two got everyone gifts, not just my son." Danny reminded him.
"He's got you there Mac." Bailey smiled.
"Yeah, yeah, look we've been chasing this guy all over the island and it looks like we're about to catch him so could you two just please?" Steve rolled his eyes.
"I still haven't figured out why we were doing that and Steve-baby I hate to burst your bubble but Tani and Junior caught him about fifteen minutes ago. So I'm not even sure who we are chasing." Bailey informed her husband holding up his phone.
"Why didn't you say that earlier?! We could have gotten you two home already instead of playing Speed Racer all over the island!" Danny yelled irritated.
"What and break you two apart so soon? Besides Mac likes driving fast, you like bitching him out and I like listening to the two of you. Everybody wins." Bailey explained cheekily.
Steve laughed as Danny looked like he may have a coronary. Unfortunately, things to a more serious turn and Steve had to swerve into the next lane to avoid rear-ending the car in front of him. That would have been fine except for the semi-truck coming headlong at them in the other lane. The truck and the Camero collided head first into each other causing the front end of the car to smash. The car spun, tipped, and then rolled down the embankment.
Bailey McGarrett watched the world spin and then it fell out from underneath her. She had not been wearing her seatbelt so when the car started rolling down the embankment Bailey was thrown around the back seat like a rag doll. She lost consciousness around the second time she was thrown against the ceiling of the car hitting her head hard.
In the front seats, Danny and Steve were wearing their seatbelts but both were knocked around pretty well just the same. They were both worried about Bailey but could do nothing about it until the car stopped rolling. The car landed on its top with its wheels in the air leaving the two men suspended upside down and Bailey's unconscious form lying prone on the car's ceiling.
"Hey Danno, you okay?" Steve asked dizzy and disorientated.
"Besides a throbbing headache and being trapped in a car upside down I'm perfect you?" Danny groggily returned.
"I think my leg is stuck and I can't get Vi to respond," Steve admitted worry creeping into his voice.
"Hold on, let me see if I can get out and I will check on Bailey. I don't think it's too good though Steve." Danny said trying to get himself free.
"Okay, Danny be careful." Steve agreed.
"I will just hold on would ya, please," Danny replied.
Danny unbuckled his seatbelt and yelped as he fell onto the ceiling of the car. His right arm hurt upon impact causing him to groan in pain. The window was crunched down and the window was broken. Danny managed to painfully squeeze out of the broken window and onto the ground gasping in pain. He had cuts from the broken glass on his chest and stomach from climbing out.
"Hey, hey hold on, stay there I'm coming to help!" a voice yelled coming down the embankment towards Danny.
"Help, please. My friend and his wife are still in there!" Danny rasped as loudly as he could.
"Hold on buddy. We'll get them out. I've already called the ambulance." the voice told him reaching him.
"I'm Detective Danny Williams. My partner Commander Steve McGarrett and his wife Bailey are still in the vehicle. I think she is hurt." Danny said trying to stand.
"Whoa, whoa, there Detective. Sit back down you shouldn't be moving. I'll check on your friend and like I said help is on the way." the voice turning out to be a man said.
The man made his way over to the side of the car and looked in at the woman, Bailey looked pretty bad. She was banged up, bruised, unconscious, and looked like she had a head injury. From what he could tell she was still breathing but the ambulance needed to hurry up this woman was in a bad way. He made his way around the car, got to the driver's side, and crouched.
"How we doing Commander?" he asked concerned.
"Hey, my legs stuck. Is my wife okay? How's Danny?" Steve frantically fired off questions.
"Easy there Sailor. Your partner looks like he has a broken arm, a concussion, and some pretty bad cuts from the glass crawling out, otherwise, he's okay. Your wife's in pretty bad shape and needs the EMTs to move her. I'm afraid if I do it I could hurt her more. Let's see what we can do about you. I'm gonna try to get your door open." the man informed him.
"What's your name?" Steve asked trying to stay conscious.
"Lewis Dobbs. I'm here on vacation. Not exactly how I thought I'd be spending it though." Dobbs answered lightly.
Mr. Dobbs was miraculously able to get Steve's door open.
"Hey there. Now let's see what we're working with here." Dobbs said taking a look at Steve's trapped leg.
Suddenly shouts and orders filled the air as the ambulance and the EMTs arrived to help. With the information provided by Steve, Danny, and Lewis Dobbs they were able to start rescuing the two people still trapped in the car. They got Danny on a stretcher, back up the embankment, and into a waiting ambulance. They split into two teams after that with one focusing on getting Steve's leg free and the other safely extracting Bailey from the backseat. Steve's leg was freed after about fifteen minutes of effort. Bailey's rescue took a little longer as they had to be more careful with the type of injuries she may have suffered. Before the Hawaiian sun has set both McGarrett's had been successfully rescued and rushed to the hospital.
