Gambling the odds? How 'bout a collection of fun? Whatever could be discussed on those nights of competitive stakes? Only the STORYTELLER knows.
Lena's Pad
The crowd was gathered, awaiting all so EAGERLY for the main event, while choosing their snacks wisely and taking to their desired seating arrangements. It had been a few weeks since Danvers had started this tradition on their game nights. Now, with one of the faces back from the dead, so it seemed with how long she'd been gone, the crew found a rhythm all together in one, or what they referred to as a 'family pack of crazy.'
The shit eating, more of cheshire cat style grin, slid over Alex Danvers' lips, while rubbing her hands together to sit on the back of one of the sectional seats, able to sit up straight since the furniture was against the wall. The hand gestures….stopped.
"It had..started with a simple raid from the pits of hell, ending up giving us a bit of a conflict to the mission. Supergirl, unfortunately, had been off-world, or more so 'dimensionally absent' attending to a situation the Legends needed her for. We hadn't known, she was a mere hour away, but it left us scrambling to find a way to overcome these unexpected feats of trouble. Oh, we were armed, we were SURROUNDED but that wouldn't ever stop us from our duty."
"Ohhhhh..this was.." The famous, dangerously deadly Agent Danvers glare and stare, caused Lucy's words to stop in their tracks. She instead went back to munching on her traditional Chex Mix. The rest of them kept their gazes locked on the 'Director of Tales.'
"Not gonna lie, it had been such a close call. A close one indeed. But that NEVER stopped us, not once. It left us a little banged up and with the victory, did the medical wing of the DEO fill with those of us whom took the blows but gained the WIN for our valiant success." Alex paused, pointed to her beer to which Lena took from the table from where she sat on a different sectional, handing it to her. "Thank you, Lena." A big swig, before she pulled it away and let out a long slow breath. "I remember the outcome, as well as the wounds. It had been something else and I knew it would take time, but I'd heal like the rest of our crew would. It feels like it was just yesterday.."
**FLASHBACK:
Alex's head flung up, just as Lucy poked her head in, and she unleashed a slur of profanities, then sent objects flying again. She noticed Lucy's eyes following the motion when Lane caught the sight of what looked to be a fork sticking out of one of the cabinets slightly cringing, to which Danvers didn't miss..
**INTERRUPTION:
"OH! OH! I REMEMBER this! Can I?" Alex sighed, waving for Lucy to continue the tale instead of her. For now.
"That's a new one." Lucy had muttered to herself more than anything, but shook it away hearing the threat and the colorful language died down. Once the nervous and literally scared shitless medical staff took their leave, she slowly came in and just rolled her eyes at the sight before her.
"You gotta stop forcing the 'med mamas' to quit Danvers. You know my kink to play doctor dammit." The Director just ignored Lucy, zipping up her jacket and giving her the keys that had been in one pocket of it. Lane pointed behind her. "What's with the fork?"
"Knike." Alex jumped off the exam table, buckled her belt, just in time to walk over and yank the object protruding the cabinet door out of it. It was lightly tossed to Lane, as her black combat boots were slipped on, tied and buckled. Lucy studied the four points all twisted into one dangerous corkscrew.
"I'm getting you a lifetime warranty dinette set for Christmas." Alex smirked, cracking her neck and signing the four forms Amelia left her. "How are you feeling?" She set the pen on top of them, spinning on her heels to meet Lucy's eyes. The Major gulped.
"One..ONE more person asks me that and I will be sharpening more utensils and working on my aim at their tires."
"Lay off, my ride Danvers." An eyebrow came up and all she could do was roll her eyes to avoid the banter that would come if she opened her mouth. The seriousness in Alex's face spoke volumes to her sense of mood. The frustration was clearly evident.
"It's been four weeks, Luce. I'm okay." The Director assured her. "Now that I'm checked up and..stop checking out my ass Lane." 'Guilty as charged.' The Major smirked, when the woman bent over to grab her little black backpack.
"Nine 'Strokes' on your mind there Boss?" When Alex stood back up, she used the loose part of the pack strap and wound it around one wrist while tugging slightly with the left hand. Lucy's lips suddenly felt dry.
"Oh you can keep all those thoughts to yourself, while you're washing and wonderin' and I'm handling my own rub down."
"Damn you Danvers. Stroke 9 is a good band though." The Director was about to comment, until they heard the boots..
**INTERRUPTION!
"Isn't that the album of theirs that's called 'Nasty Little Thoughts?" Nia popped her question to the air, which obviously turned a few heads. "What?" Dreaming a reason for their gazes, wouldn't do much, so the elaboration came from Alex first.
"Pure MY ass." Question marks seemed to animatedly appear above Nal's head, which it seemed as if the others were aware of them. All but Nia. Aaaaaaaand Supergirl.
**RETURNING to the Tale, brought to you by…Danvers.
"Sooooooo…" Kara came in dressed in her new suit with an arm suddenly out to hand her what Lucy had been holding. "What is.."
"Knike." Both said, which had her eyebrow quirked.
"Oh, you need new shoes?" They facepalmed with both heading out of the room. "Are we going shopping sis?"
**In..ter..RUPTION! (Beverage refill. Pause for effect.)
**RETURN to the Program Folks!
"Okay, give me ONE devine and dumbly reason I don't smother you with a pillow Luthor." Alex grumbled, but then Lena held up her phone, but looked at it and set it down. Instead she grabbed the BIGGER device, aka her ipad, and typed in her codes while all waited impatiently for her to finish, that's when her massive TV screen flicked on and footage from the prior DEO popped up on it. Not just the former agency building but specifically the medical wing area. "Where..did.." She questioned, to which Lena provided the answer.
"Susan." She smirked, noticing Alex with her phone, realizing the Storyteller was typing something, then clicked the side of the cell to turn off the screen on it and set it back down. Something told her that Vasquez wouldn't hear the end of it. She'd apologize, warn the agent, perhaps also provide a safe house to protect her from no doubt a vengeful Danvers.
"Here. Sorry…tale teller. Actually? Not really." She grinned evilly and pressed play.
**DEO Medical Wing Area footage, (hidden from ALL eyes, but the one recording it. ONLY, because it was a PRICELESS moment. ALSO, because it was Susan Vasquez testing out one of the agents' new, quite tiny, silent STEALTH drones): For the BOLD! The brave. The…wounded?
"Don't you have enough Rambo ones?" Alex was seen putting a flat hand on Supergirl's crest, tapping it with one finger. Kara looked down then up, down then up tilting her head to the side some.
"Knike is Danvers' new way of expressing how a fork can become the deadliest catch." Lucy interjected.
From the angle of the feed, you could see when cerulean eyes widened with the kryptonian getting a big smile. "Dare I ask? Maybe I shouldn't." Lucy's words halted.
"I haven't had seafood in a while and maybe Lee will be up for us changing the restaurant tonight, because now I am craving crabs, but not those kinds that are bad, but the ones that are sharp though not as sharp as your um…"
"Knike." They reminded her, with the three walking down the hall and everyone taking cover when Supergirl handed the Director back her new toy.
"Yeah that. I do like those shoes though but it's really difficult getting any that can handle my speed. I mean if they could just put out enough to handle what I've got, then they could be useful for my everyday activities." The trio turned the corner and you could see Lena looking away to hide her smirk and keep the laughter in and J'onn making himself useful by restacking the cups by the espresso machine Ms. Luthor bestowed on them, in one of the breakrooms. The camera's view then popped back on the three. " Lucy patted Alex's shoulder.
"She's alllll yours." The youngest Lane whispered and handed Co-Director Agent Vasquez the keys, who backed out of the room to head to the office and push back her own laughter. Luckily no one could hear, except the drone, the quiet command to proceed with its…mission.
"Kar.." It was a valiant effort by Director Danvers, who was rubbing her temples.
"No Alex. So what if we went for crab and lobster instead? Wait, will you be using their legs as throwing knives? You need to stop piercing everything because that isn't good for your health. I mean if you just used a little restraint then it wouldn't hurt as bad. We could butter them up and eat them slowly and maybe get a dipping sauce and OH! Do you think they would have those rolls? I wonder what it would take to get them to teach me how to roll like them. Could we maybe ask if maybe they would be willing to demonstrate the way they roll and stuff those things? Could you imagine how much easier that would be for me? I wouldn't overheat anything or anyone and then we wouldn't have to buy as many extinguishers. I mean you would have more money for things for you and Kelly to use when you want to."
"Kar.." Her headache had returned, however her sister JUST wouldn't shut up.
"I mean that would be good for you too but not that you can't cook because you can and I'm sure you're skilled for Kelly I mean your girlfriend I mean the one you can eat with, at the table or bed or couch or wherever you guys dine. Oh I wonder if maybe Lee can get us into that new cake place!"
"Supergirl." The drone's sight slipped to the right, focusing on the previous Director's voice, in which J'onn tried, with Lena still hiding her face, picked up on the feed too.
"I mean, isn't there an expression called have your cake and eat it too?" The viewing recorder went back to the bouncy speaker.
"It's, you can't have your cake and eat it too." Alex explained and her sister frowned.
"Well if I'm gonna have something that delicious in front of me of course it's gonna go in my mouth." The Director turned around before the words could come out of her own, noticing the slight expression on the CEO's turned face. "I mean I wonder what flavors of the week they have! I bet I could try every one but what if one doesn't taste right I mean do I just swallow it down and move on to the next one? Are you two listening?"
"Yep." They spoke together, then heard a sigh.
"Super duties. That was a good talk guys. Thanks." They waited until Kara had flown out, shaking the area and for that matter the drone, which rattled the feed, when she left the room with her reusable cup in hand. The two hung onto theirs, handed to them by J'onn, viewed by the all seeing..sneak.
"YOUR best friend."
"YOUR sister." Alex and Lena commented, sipping their steaming brews, making their way out of the agency and to the garage where their rides were waiting. "Don't deflate my tires Alex."
"I wouldn't mess with a ride that good." Lena looked away but the snort still came. Chestnut brown eyes narrowed her direction. "Don't you even.." Too late.
"I'll mention that to Kelly later."
"Shut up." Danvers groaned, rubbing her temples again. They were walking over to their bikes when the businesswoman noticed how often the Director was touching that same place.
"You okay?" She nodded, unclipping her helmet and slipping it over her head. "You sure?"
"Yep. I'll meet you guys at your pad tonight. Want me to bring anything special?"
"Well...you could always try bringing a couple treats from where your sister is dying to sample from." Alex breathed in the wrong way, coughing some after choking on the double standard of those words. "I'll call you." She couldn't help but laugh, mounting her bike after securing her helmet. Lena was still laughing, even as the poor woman was trying to clear her windpipe now flipping her off. "I'll tell Kelly." She was shoved playfully, turning over the key in the ignition.
"Sure. See you later Luthor." As Lena took off Alex mounted her own ride and did the same, driving out of the garage just in time to hear her bluetooth earpiece alert her of a notification, not affiliated with the DEO but her personal line. She pushed it away and headed towards the little bakery they all had grown accustomed to, picking up the usual order already called in ahead of time. When Alex knew everything was handled, she pressed the two buttons on her watch, set to notify her of any DEO related issues, if need be. Little did she KNOW…the bakery..was closed..
***END of Feed. (Susan Vasquez would no doubt NEED that safe house for sure.)
BACK to Lena's domain
After the recording, speechlessness kept its hold, as they all pondered commenting, but swallowed their retorts until..
"OH! THAT was the night I flew to go 'In and Out!" Kara announced, to which a chuckle started at Kelly's side, only to ripple around the sectional four square seating arrangement they set up in the room. By the time everyone was laughing, all but the confused Kryptonian, did a GASP make itself known. It was as if a light bulb had popped up over the blonde's head. "Is that the name of the exercise you were talking about to Andrea, Lena?" THEN, all eyes landed on Luthor. Lena swallowed the lump in her throat, facing the music.
"Guilty Pleasures was the VIP dining resort I was referring to darling." She explained causally, gaining back her confidence with a smirk to sip her red. Retracting the glass from her lips with a bigger smirk, she tilted her head some and looked over at Alex. "Should I make reservations for a chamber?" Lucy and Kelly choked on their beverages. Another gasp met the domain. Oh boy.
"Are those private dining rooms? Could I COME?! Please? I'll be on my best behavior and do as I'm told. I'll be good, I promise!" Kara looked deeply into Lena's eyes, hoping not to unleash the pout or puppy gaze. A scoff, groan, grumble, sigh and cough, took to the room. A snicker was the last then hum in devious contentment.
"Can't promise I will." Lena all but purred.
"Ooooookay! WHERE is my knike Luce?" Alex asked, zeroing in on emerald eyes, watching in satisfaction with the gulp of nervousness. "Kar, it's you went, TO 'In and Out' Sis."
"So I guess this means us getting Hooters next game night is out then?" Nia asked, to which all including Kara, took a drink of their brews at the same time, perfectly timed, when Dreamer went blush red in embarrassment.
"Can't wait to see what NEXT game night serves up." Lucy commented, her own smirk seeping through. They went back to their gaming activities, all on that same thought indeed. After all, not every tale is told to even the score. Although, EVERYONE urged to knock Alex Danvers down on the board. Next time. Ohhhhh NEXT time._
