A/N: It's been a while since I wrote an "Elena of Avalor" story. Of course, the ones I've written for this franchise they've been in the family, friendship and hurt/comfort genre. Now, I hope I can con conquer the romance genre with this franchise. I have written romance before but never for this show. Please read and review!

Just the Two of Us
Mateo shouldn't have been disappointed he hadn't been picked for Elena's first dance as queen. It had had been her choice and to her, Elena's abuelo seemed more fitting to have the honor of giving it his friend. After all, he had been a big influence on teaching her how to reign well. He could respect that.
Of course, after watching and joining in with the rest of the guests in dancing and singing around the room, the new master wizard had hoped he would be able to catch the queen in a second dance. Sadly, her next partner had been someone else.
Deciding to let her enjoy herself. Mateo walked around the ball room to wait for his turn but instead of waiting on Elena to pick him, he ended up dancing with a few girls himself. Some were royal guests, friends and family. And while he did enjoy dancing with all of them he was anxious to dance with his beloved friend.
Seeing Mateo constantly glance towards Elena as they danced, Sofia had an idea what her friend really wanted at the moment. "You know, Mateo if you really want to dance with Elena that badly you should just go ask." She said with a gentle smile. "Is there something important you need to tell her?"
Realizing that his dance partner was talking to him again he turned back to her and blushed. "I guess you could say that. It's just...what if she don't feel the same way?" The teen nervously asked. "I don't want make things awkward between us."
"You and Elena have been friends ever since I let her out of my amulet. While I may not not know what your friendship wit her is like I'm sure she'll be gentle if doesn't return your feelings. And if she does feel the same way that's great too. Either way Mateo, it will be okay in the end."
"Do you really think so?"
"I do."
"But even if I do want to dance with her how can I-" The wizard started to ask but the princess interrupted him.
"Just leave it to me." Sofia said as she gave him a wink as they continued dancing.
"Okay, but let's at least finish our dance. It would be rude of me to leave you in middle of a dance." Mateo said jokingly.
"Deal."
"So tell me about this Mr. Cedric you mentioned earlier. Didn't you say he was your kingdom's royal wizard?"
"Yes but he's a sorcerer. I wish he had come with us on our way here. I think you two would be great friends." The auburn-haired, pre-teen boasted.
"I guess the next time Elena goes to Enchancia I'll have to come meet him."
Once music had ended and Mateo had fallen through with his promise of finishing his dance with Sofia. The two made their way over to Elena, who had just finished dancing with King Roland the Second. "Hey dad, can you dance with me next?"
"Sure, Sofia." Roland answered his daughter before turning back Elena and giving her a bow. "It was an honor to have the chance to dance with you, Queen Elena."
"The honor is mine, King Roland." Elena answered back with a curtsy then turned to the girl standing next to him. "Once this party is over Sofia, you and I should catch up."
"I look forward to that." Sofia said as she gave her own curtsy, gave Mateo wink then left to dance with her father.
"What is she up to this time?" Elena laughed in amusement to herself. " Ever since she got the amulet I could always tell when she was planning something mischievous."
"You don't say." Mateo nervously laughed himself before suddenly changing his expression and holding out his hand to her. "May I have this dance, Queen Elena?"
"You don't have to be so formal, Mateo." Elena reminded him as she placed her gloved hand in his awaiting one and followed him as she explained why. "I mean my coronation ball might be a big deal to the kingdom and we have a lot of guests but it's just... you and me." The new queen trailed off as she realized the wizard had lead her to the outside balcony instead of the dance floor.
"Exactly," Mateo agreed as he magically locked the doors to the ball room so no one could interrupt them.
"Why are we out here?" Elena asked curiously. "Is something wrong?"
"Well, after the first dance with your abuelo you kept getting asked to dance by others and now that I've finally got my chance to have my turn I just want it to be the two us for a moment." Mateo explained as put his tamborita in it's bag and placed it down near the door.
Taking her hand again he lead her under the the pavilion, placed his other hand on her waist, and began to dance for few minutes in silence. "It's kind of amazing we are here. I started out teaching myself magic in my basement until a chance presented itself for me to meet you. Ever since then I feel like you bring adventure into my life. It's not just because you picked me to be royal wizard. It's because you call me a friend. When you ask me to come along to help you when it's needed. You are the reason where I am today. You are reason I have confidence in my myself."
"Mateo, you are here because you stepped up to the challenge and adventure. And while I may have helped you a little along the way; you are the reason you are here."
"That may be so but I feel like you bring out the best in me," Mateo added as he pulled her close. "Whenever I needed a boost of confidence or encouragement you were there. When Gabe doubted my magical abilities you defended me. You helped me when I had to convince my mom I was ready to be on my own. You encouraged me to get back up after I lost my abuelo, and I also liked it when you laugh at my corny jokes. You are special to me and I don't want to lose that."
Hearing that Mateo felt that way about her made Elena blush. Did he really think she was that special. "You've been there for me when I needed it too. You helped freed my grandparents and Isabel from the painting. You helped me figure out things about the scepter. When I felt so upset over my powers you helped me calm down by finding love." She felt her face turn even more red when she mentioned the last word. "But most importantly you help see things in a different way when I feel the situation is lost and out of my control."
"I guess we really do bring out the best in each other." Mateo smiled at that thought as he moved the hand that was holding hers to the other side of her waist. "I love you, Elena. And if you feel the same way I would like to court you."
"I love you too, Mateo. I would like to enter a courtship with you."
Before the master wizard could have time to react to his queen's acceptance, her soft and gentle lips met his which had each other moaning in pleasure. It wasn't long until her gloved arms and hands wrapped around his neck to play with his hair while his were wrapped around her waist.
Once their lips parted, both the wizard and queen smiled lovingly at each other. "I will do all I can to make this work Elena."
"So will I..."
"We should probably go back inside before everyone starts to wonder where the guest of honor is," Mateo said as he offered his arm to her, magically unlocked the the doors, picked up his tamborita and walked her back inside.
A/N: Well, I hope I have everyone in character. Writing an MateoxElena romantic story is challenging but I really wanted write this story after seeing the fan art that inspired this idea. Please review.
