Claire was peacefully asleep on Owen, under the stars, in the back of his pickup truck. Owen was awake, however, admiring his girlfriend and the beauty of the Isla Nublar jungle. He smiled as he watched her; her soft little sleep sounds and the way she nuzzled her face into his chest; he absolutely adored her. The two of them had had a great evening together. They'd gone back to Claire's place to shower and change clothes after work, then they went to a romantic dinner overlooking the mosasaur lagoon, then they had driven out to a clearing in the woods for some cuddles. Owen had been slightly worried about Claire, though, as she'd been a little quiet all evening. She didn't seem unhappy, just, tired...
And she had cried at her apartment because she couldn't find the shoes she was looking for, which was a bit unusual. Owen just assumed she was hungry, though. His worries began to fade, though, as she slept ever so peacefully on his chest. He had managed to convince her to wear casual clothes for once. Not only because he wanted her to be comfortable, but he also loved the way she looked in shorts.
Suddenly, though, Owen noticed the redhead stirring. At first he thought she was just getting comfortable, but soon, it became apparent that she was in some type of discomfort. The raptor trainer rubbed her back, murmuring a soft, "you're ok." in her ear.
Claire began to whimper and moan, her once relaxed sleep now threatening to end in crying.
Owen wondered if what she'd eaten at dinner had upset her stomach, but he quickly ruled that out when he realized that he had eaten the same thing as her and he felt fine.
Just then, the fretful redhead woke up.
"O-Owen..." she cried.
"Hey babe, you ok?" Owen asked, smoothing down Claire's messy bangs.
"Ow..." she groaned as she gritted her teeth. Owen was definitely worried now.
"What's hurting you, baby?" he asked.
Claire placed her hand on her stomach in response.
Owen gave her a sympathetic look.
Claire's stomach gave a loud rumble as she once again moaned in pain. The redhead's eyes filled with tears as she started to sob.
"Aww, babe, don't cry. " Owen said as he sat up, moving Claire into a sitting position on his lap.
"Do you want me to take you home?" Owen asked. But Claire didn't respond; she was just staring down, with a horrified look on her face.
"Honey?" Owen tried to get her attention.
Eventually, he looked where she was looking; there was a large puddle of blood on his shirt.
"Oh babe..." Owen said sympathetically.
Claire burst into embarrassed wails as she continued to hold her stomach.
"I-I'm so sorry! " she sobbed. Owen gave her a soothing hug and shushed her, trying to let her know that she didn't need to apologize.
At this moment, Claire was very thankful that Owen wasn't the type of guy to freak out over periods. She was still mortified, though.
After the half our drive home, Claire had pretty much stopped crying, but she refused to make eye contact with her boyfriend. Owen carried her inside, and he heated up a hot water bottle for her while she cleaned herself up.
